Extreme-ultraviolet harmonic generation near 13 nm with a two-color elliptically polarized laser field

Enhanced XUV harmonics generation from diatomic gases using two orthogonally polarized laser fields

Enhanced high repetition rate coherent extreme ultraviolet (XUV) harmonics represent efficient probe of electron dynamics in atoms, molecules and solids. In this work, we used orthogonally-polarized two-color laser field to generate strong even and odd high order harmonics from molecular gas targets. The dynamics of odd and even harmonics from O2, and N2 gases were investigated by employing single- and two-color laser fields using the fundamental radiation and second harmonic of 1030 nm, 37 fs, 50 kHz pulses. The relative efficiencies of harmonics were analyzed as a function of the thickness of the barium borate crystal used for second harmonic generation. Defocusing-assisted phase matching conditions were achieved in N2 gas for different groups of XUV harmonics.

Electron rescattering in a bicircular laser field

Above-threshold ionization of rare-gas atoms by a bicircular field with its two components counterrotating is theoretically investigated by means of the improved strong-field approximation. Both direct and rescattered electrons are considered and the quantum orbits that lead into a specific final state are calculated and depicted. The angle-dependent spectrum reflects the discrete rotational symmetry of the bicircular field. The backward-scattering contributions are very similar to those generated by a linearly polarized field; several such contributions are rotated one versus the other by the symmetry angle of the discrete rotational symmetry. The forward-scattering contributions dramatically affect the velocity map at comparatively low momenta. The direct-electron spectrum observes reflection symmetry about several symmetry axes determined by the field symmetry. This is broken by rescattering.

Generation of elliptically polarized attosecond pulse trains

Stimulated by the recent demonstration of the first bright source of circularly polarized high harmonics, we examine the attosecond pulse trains generated by a group of such harmonics. For the s ground state of an atom, the polarization of generated pulses is close to linear, with three different orientations per cycle. However, for the p ground state of the inert gases used in the experiments, the polarization of the attosecond pulses is close to elliptical. We show that this is caused by the different intensities of the high harmonics of the opposite helicity.

Molecular alignment dependent electron interference in attosecond ultraviolet photoionization

We present molecular photoionization processes by intense attosecond ultraviolet laser pulses from numerical solutions of time-dependent Schrödinger equations. Simulations preformed on a single electron diatomic [Formula: see text] show minima in molecular photoelectron energy spectra resulting from two center interference effects which depend strongly on molecular alignment. We attribute such sensitivity to the spatial orientation asymmetry of the photoionization process from the two nuclei. A similar influence on photoelectron kinetic energies is also presented.
