Molecularly Imprinted Monolithic Column for Selective On-Line Extraction of Enrofloxacin and Ciprofloxacin from Urine

Preparation of Monodisperse Enrofloxacin Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Microspheres and Their Recognition Characteristics

This study presents a new strategy for the detection of enrofloxacin (ENR) in food samples by the use of monodisperse ENR molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs). Using enrofloxacin as template molecule, methacrylic acid as functional monomer, and ethylene diglycidyl ether as cross-linker, surface molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) were prepared on the surface of polymeric glycidyl methacrylate-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (P_GMA-EDMA) microspheres. The surface morphology and imprinting behavior of P_GMA-EDMA@MIPs were investigated and optimized. Synthesized P_GMA-EDMA@MIPs showed good physical and chemical stability and specific recognition toward fluoroquinolones. The introduction of P_GMA-EDMA microspheres greatly increased the adsorption area of P_GMA-EDMA@MIPs and increased the adsorption capacity of target molecules. The core shell structure increased the adsorption rate, and adsorption equilibrium was achieved within 6 min, much higher than that of MIPs synthesized by traditional methods. Enrofloxacin in milk samples was detected by molecular imprinting solid phase extraction (MISPE) combined with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Implementing this method resulted in a recovery rate of 94.6~109.6% with a relative standard deviation (RSD) of less than 3.2%. The limit of detection (LOD) of this method was identified as three times the signal-to-noise ratio (10 μg/L). In summary, this work proposed a sensitive, rapid, and convenient method for the determination of trace ENR in food samples.

Molecular imprinting science and technology: a survey of the literature for the years 2004-2011

Herein, we present a survey of the literature covering the development of molecular imprinting science and technology over the years 2004-2011. In total, 3779 references to the original papers, reviews, edited volumes and monographs from this period are included, along with recently identified uncited materials from prior to 2004, which were omitted in the first instalment of this series covering the years 1930-2003. In the presentation of the assembled references, a section presenting reviews and monographs covering the area is followed by sections describing fundamental aspects of molecular imprinting including the development of novel polymer formats. Thereafter, literature describing efforts to apply these polymeric materials to a range of application areas is presented. Current trends and areas of rapid development are discussed.

Direct fluorimetric sensing of UV-excited analytes in biological and environmental samples using molecularly imprinted polymer nanoparticles and fluorescence polarization

A rapid, robust, sensitive and economic sensing method, based on a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) synthetic antibody mimic, and fluorescence polarization analysis, for the direct detection of UV-excited fluorescent analytes in food and environmental samples was developed. Fluoroquinolone (FQ) antibiotics were used as fluorescent model analytes. Water-compatible MIP nanoparticles were synthesized with enrofloxacin (ENRO) as the imprinting template. Fluorescence polarization measurements then allow the direct determination of the amount of ENRO and other structurally related piperazine-based fluoroquinolones that bind to the MIP. No separation step was required since this technique distinguishes in situ analyte molecules bound to the MIP from the free analyte in solution. This assay was successfully applied for the first time to determine FQs in real samples, i.e. tap water and milk, without any prior concentration step, by simply adding a known amount of MIP. No interference by the sample components was observed even though the excitation was in the UV region. In tap water, a low limit of detection of 0.1 nM for ENRO was achieved with 5 μg mL(-1) of MIP. In milk, ENRO and danofloxacin, whose MRLs have been fixed at 0.28 μM and 0.08 μM, respectively, could be selectively measured and distinguished from other families of antibiotics. The procedure is very easy and practical as it consists of simply precipitating the milk proteins with acetonitrile and adding buffer and MIP to the supernatant before reading the polarization values with a spectrofluorimeter.

Preparation of a molecularly imprinted polymer using TMB as a dummy template and its application as SPE sorbent for determination of six PBBs in and fish samples

A novel molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) based on a silica-gel surface for the separation and concentration of polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) was prepared using 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) as a dummy template by a surface molecular imprinting technique in combination with a sol-gel process. The results obtained from a series of adsorption experiments proved that the prepared sorbent had a good adsorption capacity and a fast mass transfer rate to TMB. Meanwhile, a method was developed for the determination of six PBBs using TMB-MIP as a solid-phase extraction (SPE) enrichment sorbent coupled to GC-ECD. Under the optimum experimental conditions, the linear range of the calibration curve was 0.01-5.0 μg L-1 (r2 > 0.99), and LODs for each analyte were between 2.0 ng L-1 and 8.0 ng L-1. Relative standard deviations (RSD) for nine replicate detections of 1.0 μg L-1 of each analyte ranged from 4.30% to 7.89%. The proposed method was applied to the determination of six PBBs in spiked water and fish samples with recoveries ranging from 61.48% to 114.06%.
