Discrete-Time Stochastic Quaternion-Valued Neural Networks with Time Delays: An Asymptotic Stability Analysis

Stochastic disturbances often cause undesirable characteristics in real-world system modeling. As a result, investigations on stochastic disturbances in neural network (NN) modeling are important. In this study, stochastic disturbances are considered for the formulation of a new class of NN models; i.e., the discrete-time stochastic quaternion-valued neural networks (DSQVNNs). In addition, the mean-square asymptotic stability issue in DSQVNNs is studied. Firstly, we decompose the original DSQVNN model into four real-valued models using the real-imaginary separation method, in order to avoid difficulties caused by non-commutative quaternion multiplication. Secondly, some new sufficient conditions for the mean-square asymptotic stability criterion with respect to the considered DSQVNN model are obtained via the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach, based on the Lyapunov functional and stochastic analysis. Finally, examples are presented to ascertain the usefulness of the obtained theoretical results.

Non-fragile mixed H∞ and passive synchronization of Markov jump neural networks with mixed time-varying delays and randomly occurring controller gain fluctuation

This paper studies the non-fragile mixed H∞ and passive synchronization problem for Markov jump neural networks. The randomly occurring controller gain fluctuation phenomenon is investigated for non-fragile strategy. Moreover, the mixed time-varying delays composed of discrete and distributed delays are considered. By employing stochastic stability theory, synchronization criteria are developed for the Markov jump neural networks. On the basis of the derived criteria, the non-fragile synchronization controller is designed. Finally, an illustrative example is presented to demonstrate the validity of the control approach.

Global Exponential Stability for Complex-Valued Recurrent Neural Networks With Asynchronous Time Delays

In this paper, we investigate the global exponential stability for complex-valued recurrent neural networks with asynchronous time delays by decomposing complex-valued networks to real and imaginary parts and construct an equivalent real-valued system. The network model is described by a continuous-time equation. There are two main differences of this paper with previous works: 1) time delays can be asynchronous, i.e., delays between different nodes are different, which make our model more general and 2) we prove the exponential convergence directly, while the existence and uniqueness of the equilibrium point is just a direct consequence of the exponential convergence. Using three generalized norms, we present some sufficient conditions for the uniqueness and global exponential stability of the equilibrium point for delayed complex-valued neural networks. These conditions in our results are less restrictive because of our consideration of the excitatory and inhibitory effects between neurons; so previous works of other researchers can be extended. Finally, some numerical simulations are given to demonstrate the correctness of our obtained results.

Synchronization of two homodromy rotors installed on a double vibro-body in a coupling vibration system

A new mechanism is proposed to implement synchronization of the two unbalanced rotors in a vibration system, which consists of a double vibro-body, two induction motors and spring foundations. The coupling relationship between the vibro-bodies is ascertained with the Laplace transformation method for the dynamics equation of the system obtained with the Lagrange's equation. An analytical approach, the average method of modified small parameters, is employed to study the synchronization characteristics between the two unbalanced rotors, which is converted into that of existence and the stability of zero solutions for the non-dimensional differential equations of the angular velocity disturbance parameters. By assuming the disturbance parameters that infinitely approach to zero, the synchronization condition for the two rotors is obtained. It indicated that the absolute value of the residual torque between the two motors should be equal to or less than the maximum of their coupling torques. Meanwhile, the stability criterion of synchronization is derived with the Routh-Hurwitz method, and the region of the stable phase difference is confirmed. At last, computer simulations are preformed to verify the correctness of the approximate solution of the theoretical computation for the stable phase difference between the two unbalanced rotors, and the results of theoretical computation is in accordance with that of computer simulations. To sum up, only the parameters of the vibration system satisfy the synchronization condition and the stability criterion of the synchronization, the two unbalanced rotors can implement the synchronization operation.
