Lysimachiafenghwaiana (Primulaceae), a new species from Hunan Province, China

A new species, Lysimachiafenghwaiana G.Hao & H.F.Yan (Primulaceae), from Hunan Province, China, is described and illustrated. This new species belongs to Lysimachiasubgen.Lysimachiasect.Nummularia and is morphologically similar to L.crista-galli and L.carinata, but is distinctive in its leaf shape and arrangement of flowers. It can be further distinguished from L.crista-galli by the absence of calyx lobule spur, and from L.carinata by the black glandular striates in the corolla lobes, rather than punctate.

Lysimachiacoriacea (Primulaceae, Myrsinoideae), a new species from Chongqing, China

A new species, Lysimachiacoriacea, from Chongqing, China, is described and illustrated. It is assigned to subgen. Lysimachiasect.Nummulariaser.Paridiformes and resembles L.paridiformisvar.stenophylla, but is characterised by smaller leathery leaves with black glandular striations near the margin. It is also similar to L.nanpingensis in its two to three pairs of leaves sub-whorled at the stem apices, but differs by smaller leathery leaves and densely glandular stem, petiole and pedicel, and calyx lobes with sparse black glandular stripes.

Lysimachia xiangxiensis (Primulaceae), a new species from limestone area in Hunan Province, central China

A new species of Lysimachia, L. xiangxiensis (Primulaceae), is described and illustrated from western Hunan, central China. The species is similar to L. melampyroides in plant densely strigillose, leaves subglabrous adaxially, and flowers usually solitary in axils of upper leaves, but differs by the succulent leaves, the creeping or ascending stems 15-25 cm long, and the suborbicular to broadly elliptic corolla lobes. This new species is also supported by a molecular phylogenetic analysis of some Lysimachia species based on ITS sequence data.

Lysimachia tianmaensis (Primulaceae), a new species from Anhui, China

A new species of Lysimachia (Primulaceae), Lysimachia tianmaensis K. Liu, S.B. Zhou & Ying Wang sp. nov., is described and illustrated from Jinzhai County, Anhui, China. It is endemic to Dabieshan Mountain, China. The new species has yellow flowers and belongs to the subgenus Lysimachia section Nummularia series Grammicae. It is very easily distinguishable from other related species by having alternate leaves with brown patches beneath and an auriculated leaf base.

A new western Canadian record of Epeoloides pilosulus (Cresson), with discussion of ecological associations, distribution and conservation status in Canada

Background

Epeoloidespilosulus, one of the rarest bees in North America, is a cleptoparasite of Macropis bees which themselves are uncommon oligoleges of oil-producing Lysimachia flowers. Only two specimens of the cleptoparasite have been reported from Canada since the 1960s, both from Nova Scotia.

New information

A recently collected specimen of Epeoloidespilosulus from Alberta, Canada confirms this species from that province and greatly increases its known range in western North America. This record and additional specimens from southern Ontario (one collected in 1978) have implications for the conservation status of this COSEWIC assessed species in Canada, which are discussed.

Lysimachia septemfida (Primulaceae), a new species from Yunnan, China

A new species, Lysimachia septemfida (Primulaceae), from Yunnan (Southwest China) is described and illustrated. The new species exhibits several unusual characters in Lysimachia including lack of a corolla, 7-merous flowers, leaves in whorls of 3 and distinct multicellular nodiferous hairs, which make it readily distinguishable from all other species in this genus. The diagnostic differences between this new species and its suppositive allies are given. In addition, the systematic placement of this new species is also discussed based on an ITS molecular tree.
