Abstract
BACKGROUND Resilience has been associated with greater adherence to treatment, better outcomes, and improved quality of life (QOL) in people with chronic health conditions. This study aimed to identify sociodemographic, treatment accessibility-related, clinical, and psychological variables associated with resilience in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing long-term hemodialysis (>6 months). METHODS This was a multicenter, cross-sectional, and correlational study. The instruments used were the Spanish versions of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, the Perceived Stress Scale-10, and the Kidney Disease Quality of Life-36. The participants were categorized as resilient (with a score of ≥49.37 on the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale) or nonresilient. Binary logistic regression analysis was performed to identify variables with predictive power for the group with the resilient profile. RESULTS Perceived stress, general QOL, and subcomponents of QOL, such as the physical component and burden of kidney disease, were identified as factors related to the resilient profile. DISCUSSION Identifying the factors related to resilient adjustment in patients with advanced CKD may assist health caregivers in improving adherence to treatment, treatment outcomes, and QOL.

Abstract
Self-assessment of health status is an important marker of social and health aspects. Haemodialysis is an option for renal replacement therapy that alters daily life and impacts social participation and the performance of tasks that give the subject a socially accepted role. In this scenario, leisure activities have the potential to generate well-being and are associated with several aspects of daily life, but few studies have analysed their relationship with the self-assessment of health status. This is a cross-sectional, census study with 1024 individuals from haemodialysis units of a Southeast Brazilian region, with the application of a questionnaire in 2019. We calculated the difference between the proportions of self-assessment of health status (positive and negative) and the two logistic regression models. The chances of individuals on haemodialysis negatively evaluating their health increase when they do not perform artistic leisure activities (OR 2.15; 95% CI 1.35-3.43), physical and sports activities (OR 3.20; 95% CI 1.86-5.52), intellectual (OR 2.21; 95% CI 1.44-3.41), manuals (OR 1.82; 95% CI 1.22-2.72), social (OR 2.74; 95% CI 1.74-4.31), tourist (OR 2.08; 95% CI 1.37-3.17) and idleness and contemplative (OR 1.92; 95% CI 1.29-2.85). Negative health self-assessment is associated with not practicing artistic, manual, physical and sporting, social, intellectual, tourist, and contemplative leisure activities, which have the function of providing social participation and giving meaning to life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Management of health problems in patients undergoing hemodialysis is quite complicated, fluid restriction, diet, following treatment recommendations, and managing physical activity are problems that are often difficult to manage. Self-regulation of HD patients is needed to maintain adherence regarding fluid restriction, diet, medication, and physical activity management.
AIM: We aimed to investigate self-care adherence in hemodialysis patients with a structural equation modeling.
METHODS: One hundred and thirty patients with the hemodialysis-dependent end-stage renal disease took part in a quantitative cross-sectional study.
RESULTS: The researchers investigated personality traits, information factors, emotional factors, disease representation, motivation, appraisal, coping, and self-care adherence.
CONCLUSION: Except for motivation, which has no direct effect on coping (T-statistic = 1.666), almost every construct in this model significantly affects coping.

Abstract
Background Patients on hemodialysis (HD) are known to exhibit low values of regional cerebral oxygenation (rSO2) and impaired cognitive functioning. The etiology of both is currently unknown. Objective To determine the feasibility of serially monitoring rSO2 in patients initiating HD. In addition, we sought to investigate how rSO2 is related to hemodynamic and dialysis parameters. Design Prospective observational study. Setting Single-center tertiary academic teaching hospital in Ontario, Canada. Participants Six patients initiating HD were enrolled in the study. Methods Feasibility was defined as successful study enrollment (>1 patient/month), successful consent rate (>70%), high data capture rates (>90%), and assessment tolerability. Regional cerebral oxygenation monitoring was performed 1 time/wk for the first year of dialysis. A neuropsychological battery was performed 3 times during the study: before dialysis initiation, 3 months, and 1 year after dialysis initiation. The neuropsychological battery included a traditional screening tool: the Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status, and a robot-based assessment: Kinarm. Results Our overall consent rate was 33%, and our enrollment rate was 0.4 patients/mo. In total 243 rSO2 sessions were recorded, with a data capture rate of 91.4% (222/243) across the 6 patients. Throughout the study, no adverse interactions were reported. Correlations between rSO2 with hemodynamic and dialysis parameters showed individual patient variability. However, at the individual level, all patients demonstrated positive correlations between mean arterial pressure and rSO2. Patients who had more than 3 liters of fluid showed significant negative correlations with rSO2. Less cognitive impairment was detected after initiating dialysis. Limitation This small cohort limits conclusions that can be made between rSO2 and hemodynamic and dialysis parameters. Conclusions Prospectively monitoring rSO2 in patients was unfeasible in a single dialysis unit, due to low consent and enrollment rates. However, rSO2 monitoring may provide unique insights into the effects of HD on cerebral oxygenation that should be further investigated. Trial Registration Due to the feasibility nature of this study, no trial registration was performed.

Abstract
Background: Patients with chronic kidney disease undergo various stages of therapeutic adaptation which involve lifestyle modifications, physical changes, and adjustment to renal replacement therapy. This process produces adaptive stress. Objective: To identify how resilience, health- related quality of life, and sociodemographic, clinical, and hemodialysis routine-related variables are related to perceived stress in patients with chronic kidney disease receiving hemodialysis for more than six months. Methods: This was a multicenter and cross-sectional study involving 144 patients from the Valencian Community (Spain). The assessment scales used for the study were the Perceived Stress Scale 10, the Kidney Disease Quality of Life 36, and the Connors–Davidson Resilience Scale. To identify variables with predictive power over Perceived Stress Scale 10 scores, multiple regression analyses were performed. Results: Employment status (p = 0.003), resilience (p < 0.001), and quality of life (p < 0.001) were shown to be significantly related to perceived stress. The regression models determined that health-related quality of life and resilience explained up to 27.1% of the variance of total PSS10 scores. Conclusions: Resilience was identified as one of the most important predictors of Perceived Stress Scale 10 scores. Thus, the development of interventions to promote resilience may have a positive impact on perceived stress in patients with chronic kidney disease.

Abstract
PURPOSE Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects over 10% of the global population. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) has been identified as a reliable indicator for assessing the effectiveness of treatment in chronic patients, and resilience as a predictor of low levels of stress and higher QoL. The aim of this research is to identify the relationship between HRQoL, resilience, perceived stress, and the different sociodemographic and clinical routine variables of advanced chronic kidney disease (ACKD). METHODS Multicenter, cross-sectional, and correlational study with 155 ACKD patients in the Valencian Community (Spain). The measures for the study included the Kidney Disease Quality of Life 36 (KDQOL-36), the Perceived Stress Scale 10 (PSS10), and the Connors-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). To identify the variables with predictive power over the scales and subscales of the KDQOL-36, multiple regression analyses were performed. RESULTS Average participants' age was 67.39, 68.4% were male, 29% diabetic, and 83.2% had undergone arteriovenous vascular access placement with a Charlson Comorbidity Index of 6 (SD = 2.09). The regression models identified that age and resilience explained up to 26.8% of the variance of the KDQOL-36 total score. As for the physical component of QoL, comorbidity with other clinical conditions, resilience, and the presence of diabetes explained 32.1% of its variance. CONCLUSIONS Resilience was identified as one of the most important predictors of HRQoL. Thus, the development of interventions aiming to improve the level of resilience may have a positive impact over the quality of life of patients with CKD.

Abstract
Kidney transplantation is a serious event that involves profound psychological, relational and social changes both for the patient and his family context. Assessment of personality profile, awareness of disease, family and social support of the patient candidate for kidney transplantation are necessary because factors not adequately considered, can influence the success of the transplant and alter the psychological stability of the patient. The present study aims to provide a systematic review of the literature of the last twelve years (2006-2018), focusing in particular on patient's readiness level and illness management and on possible psychopathology. Sixty-two studies were examined. Based on the Downs and Black checklist, most studies (n = 32) were of high quality; 15 of which related to lifestyle, health education, and therapeutic adherence in post-renal transplantation, 17 studies concerned the possible existence of psychopathology and cognitive impairment of renal deceased transplanted subjects. The literature used has shown that the population of kidney transplant patients is exposed to a high risk of psychiatric disorders with repercussions on the quality of life and the risk of rejection. Therefore, an adequate pre-transplant psychosocial assessment is necessary, which allows a more in-depth knowledge of the candidate to plan coping strategies and possible post-transplant psychotherapy.
