Abstract
Besides being scarce, the drugs available for treating cutaneous leishmaniasis have many adverse effects. Ozone is an option to enhance the standard treatment due to the wound-healing activity reported in the literature. In this study, we evaluated the efficiency of ozonated sunflower oil as an adjuvant in treating cutaneous lesions caused by Leishmania amazonensis. BALB/c mice were infected with L. amazonensis, and after the lesions appeared, they were treated in four different schedules using the drug treatment with meglumine antimoniate (Glucantime®), with or without ozonated oil. After thirty days of treatment, the lesions' thickness and their parasitic burden, blood leukocytes, production of NO and cytokines from peritoneal macrophages and lymph node cells were analyzed. The group treated with ozonated oil plus meglumine antimoniate showed the best performance, improving the lesion significantly. The parasitic burden showed that ozonated oil enhanced the leishmanicidal activity of the treatment, eliminating the parasites in the lesion. Besides, a decrease in the TNF levels from peritoneal macrophages and blood leukocytes demonstrated an immunomodulatory action of ozone in the ozonated oil-treated animals compared to the untreated group. Thus, ozonated sunflower oil therapy has been shown as an adjuvant in treating Leishmania lesions since this treatment enhanced the leishmanicidal and wound healing effects of meglumine antimoniate.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the clinical efficacy of a hypericum and neem oil dressing, Primary Wound Dressing [ONE] (1PWD) (Kerecis AG, Switzerland), in a patient population with dehiscence of surgical wounds with critical colonisation/infection. Efficacy was defined as resolution of inflammatory/infective symptoms. METHOD A randomised, controlled, single-blinded, parallel-arms phase III study was conducted comparing the experimental medication to silver-based dressings. All patients were evaluated at enrolment, on days 7, 14, 21 and 28. Improvement of inflammatory/infective symptoms was measured by detecting seven items of the Bates-Jensen Wound Assessment Tool (BWAT). Pain was assessed using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). RESULTS The study enrolled 99 patients. Follow-up was completed in 49 patients in the experimental group and 48 patients in the control group. Overall BWAT evaluation demonstrated similar outcomes between the groups: t=0.23, p-value=0.81, 95% confidence interval (CI): -13.3-10.8. Furthermore, when evaluating the seven items of the BWAT relating to inflammatory signs, there was not a significant difference between the groups: t=0.38, p=0.35, 95% CI: -2.8-2.7. However, when an analysis using the NRS pain scale was performed, a statistically significant pain reduction was demonstrated in favour of the experimental group: t=7.8, p<0.0001, 95% CI: 2.918-4.8819. CONCLUSION This randomised controlled trial confirmed the efficacy of 1PWD, an investigational product, in the management of surgical dehiscence with critical colonisation or infection, with the added benefit of significant pain reduction when compared with a silver-based dressing.

Abstract
Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) play an important role in reparative processes. The ratio of PUFAs n-3 to n-6 may affect wound healing. The study aimed to evaluate the effect of dietary supplementation with n-3 and n-6 PUFA in two proportions on skin wounds in laboratory rats. Adult male Wistar rats received 20% fat emulsion with a ratio of 1.4:1 (group A) or 4.3:1 (group B) for n-3:n-6 PUFAs at a daily dose of 1 mL/kg. The control group received water under the same conditions. The animals were supplemented a week before and a week after the skin excision performed on the back. The level of wound closure, various parameters of oxidative stress, and plasma fatty acids composition were evaluated. Wound tissue samples were examined by electron microscopy. The administration of fat emulsions led to significant changes in plasma polyunsaturated fatty acid composition. The increased production of reactive nitrogen species, as well as more numerous newly formed blood vessels and a greater amount of highly organized collagen fibrils in both groups A and B may indicate more intensive healing of the skin wound in rats supplemented with polyunsaturated fatty acids in high n-3:n-6 ratio.

Abstract
Most injuries in the hand and fingers, especially on the digital pulps, are suited for healing by secondary intention. Nevertheless, delay in epithelization seems to unfavorably restrict this technique. The purpose of this controlled randomized clinical trial is to analyze by means of photo planimetry the progression of the healing process by secondary intention in acute wounds of the hand using the standardized extract of Calendula officinalis L. (SEC). The cohort of eligible participants included two groups of 20 patients with skin loss in the hand and fingers treated by secondary intention. Control group (CG) used mineral oil and intervention group (IG) received SEC. Wound pictures were captured at each outpatient assessment until epithelization was achieved and measured with ImageJ. Intervention group (IG) and control group (CG) with 19 wounds each, primarily formed by men in their 40's with wounds in their index and ring fingers on the left side, showed homogeneous variables and similar initial wound areas. Epithelization time was shorter and healing speed was faster in IG (IG = 8.6 ± 4.7 days and 9.5 ± 5.8%day versus CG = 13.2 ± 7.4 days and 6.2 ± 2.9%day, ƿ < 0.05), leading to the conclusion that healing by secondary intention in acute wounds of the hand and fingers with SEC led to a faster epithelization.

Abstract
Zootherapy is a traditional secular practice among the Guarani-Kaiowá indigenous ethnic group living in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. My people use the oil extracted from larvae of the snout beetle Rhynchophorus palmarum (Linnaeus, 1758) to treat and heal skin wounds and respiratory diseases. Based on this ethnopharmacological knowledge, the chemical composition and antioxidant, antimicrobial, and healing properties of R. palmarum larvae oil (RPLO) were investigated, as well as possible toxic effects, through in vitro and in vivo assays. The chemical composition of the RPLO was determined using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. The antioxidant activity of RPLO was investigated through the direct 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging assay, and the antimicrobial activity was evaluated against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria that are pathogenic to humans. The healing properties of RPLO were investigated by performing a cell migration assay using human lung fibroblasts (MRC-5), and the toxicity was analyzed, in vivo, using a Caenorhabditis elegans model and MRC-5 cells, in vitro. RPLO contains 52.2% saturated fatty acids and 47.4% unsaturated fatty acids, with palmitic acid (42.7%) and oleic acid (40%) representing its major components, respectively. RPLO possesses direct antioxidant activity, with a half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 46.15 mg.ml-1. The antimicrobial activity of RPLO was not observed at a concentration of 1% (v/v). RPLO did not alter the viability of MRC-5 cells and did not exert toxic effects on C. elegans. Furthermore, MRC-5 cells incubated with 0.5% RPLO showed a higher rate of cell migration than that of the control group, supporting its healing properties. Taken together, RPLO possesses direct antioxidant activity and the potential to aid in the healing process and is not toxic toward in vitro and in vivo models, corroborating the safe use of the oil in traditional Guarani-Kaiowá medicine.

Abstract
Babassu (Attalea speciosa Mart. ex Spreng., Arecaceae) is a palm tree endemic to Brazil and found mainly in the borders of Amazon forest, where the harvesting of its fruits is an important source of income for more than 300,000 people. Among the communities of coconut breakers women, babassu oil is used in culinary, as fuel, and mostly as medicinal oil for the treatment of skin wounds and inflammation. This study aimed to evaluate in vitro and in vivo the wound healing effects of babassu oil. In vitro, babassu oil increased the migration of L929 fibroblasts, inhibited the production of nitric oxide by LPS-stimulated peritoneal macrophages, and increased the levels of INF-γ and IL-6 cytokines production. In vivo, babassu oil accelerated the healing process in a full-thickness splinted wound model, by an increase in the fibroblasts number, blood vessels, and collagen deposition in the wounds. The babassu oil also increased the recruitment of inflammatory cells into the wound site and showed an anti-inflammatory effect in a chronic ear edema model, reducing ear thickness, epidermal hyperplasia, and myeloperoxidase activity. Thus, these data corroborate the use of babassu oil in folk medicine as a remedy to treat skin wounds.
