Abstract
This paper introduces a novel approach for encoding information in PDF documents or similar files. The proposed encoding involves a dual-step method: firstly, the information is encoded in base64, and subsequently, it is uploaded in a user-selected color, while the rest of the colors contain dummy information. Merging of the encoded segments results in a single QR code. The Literature Review subsection investigates the usage of similar methods for information encoding, followed by a comparison of the luminance of the generated QR code with theoretical expectations. Finally, diverse use cases are presented. The proposed methodology is presented:•Compare the results obtained from the theorical approximation with those acquired in the merged QR code.•Use cases: encoding text sample to obtain a counterfeit system.•Results, contributions, and future work.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A "Menstruatie Educatie Kalender" application (Menstruation Education Calendar, (MEK-APP)) was developed for adults to evaluate menstrual complaints. The future aim of this app is to use it as a self-diagnostic instrument for menstrual abnormalities for both adults and adolescents. Early identification of the potential of an application for future use by both user groups would increase implementation success and adoption of the application. OBJECTIVE To compare differences in experienced usability by adults versus adolescents and to identify factors influencing future use for both age groups in one mHealth application (in this study the MEK-APP). METHODS This study consisted of three phases: (1) usability testing of the MEK-APP for iOS and Android by think-aloud method, (2) two-month daily use and (3) in-depth individual interview. During the think-aloud sessions, twelve tasks were performed in the application while they were thinking aloud. Usability problems were rated for their severity with Nielsen' Severity Scale. Both the think-aloud sessions and in-depth interviews were verbatim transcribed and thematically analyzed to determine the factors influencing future use for both groups. In addition, the System Usability Scale (SUS) and Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI) questionnaires were filled out during the interviews. RESULTS Seven adults (>18 years) and seven adolescents (14-18 years) evaluated the MEK-APP. There were 14 usability issues and 16 bugs in both groups. There were no differences between adults and adolescents. In the thematic qualitative analysis, the following future use factors were identified: user-expectation, motivation, privacy, understandability, and user-experience. The user-expectation, motivation and privacy differed between both groups but did not influence usage. No differences were observed in SUS and IMI scores between both groups. CONCLUSIONS There are five factors influencing the future use of a menstrual-related mHealth application for both adults and adolescents. It is possible to serve different age groups with a single application.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Real-time tracking of menstrual bleeding is a barrier to research due to limitations with traditional data collection tools. This prospective cohort study utilized a mobile application (TDot app) in young adolescents aged 10-14 years to assess the relationship between heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB), dysmenorrhea, and activity limitation. METHODS Menstrual cycles were captured over six months in real-time using the Pictorial Blood loss Assessment Chart (PBAC). A median PBAC score of >100 was used to identify participants with HMB. Participants also completed a modified WaLIDD (Working ability, Location, Intensity, Days of pain, Dysmenorrhea) scale. Impact of menses on daily activities was collected for each cycle. RESULTS A total of 160 participants enrolled and 100 (63%) participants with ≥3 cycles recorded in the mobile app were analyzed. HMB was noted in 41% of participants. Median modified WaLIDD score was significantly higher in participants with HMB than those without HMB (p=0.01). No significant differences were found in activity limitations between participants with and without HMB (p=0.34). Median modified WaLIDD score for participants with activity limitation was significantly higher than those without activity limitation (p=0.01). CONCLUSION Utilizing mobile app technology, we were able to gather real-time menstrual outcome data from young adolescents on heaviness of flow, dysmenorrhea and activity limitations. While we did not find that patients with HMB were more likely to have activity limitations, we did find that those with limitations had modestly higher dysmenorrhea scores. Future studies should focus on identifying additional variables that impact activity limitation during menstruation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence on how menstrual characteristics may differ based on socioeconomic factors and self-rated health is significantly scarce. The main aim of this study was to investigate the associations between menstrual characteristics, sociodemographic factors and self-rated health among women and people who menstruate (PWM) aged 18-55 in Spain. METHODS This cross-sectional study includes data from an online survey collected in March-July 2021 across Spain. Descriptive statistical analyses and multivariate logistic regression models were performed. RESULTS The analyses included a total of 19,358 women and PWM. Mean age at menarche was 12.4 (SD = 1.5). While 20.3% of our participants experienced a menstrual abundance over 80 ml, 64.1% reported having menstrual blood clots; 6.4% menstruated for longer than 7 days. 17.0% had menstrual cycles that were shorter than 21 days or longer than 35 days. Reports of moderate (46.3%) and high (22.7%) intensity menstrual pain were common. 68.2% of our participants experienced premenstrual symptoms in all or most cycles. The odds for lighter menstrual flow, shorter bleeding days and menstrual cycles were higher as age increased, and amongst participants with less educational attainment. Caregivers presented higher odds for abundant menstrual flow and longer menstruations. Reporting financial constraints and a poorer self-rated health were risk factors for abundant menstrual flow, menstrual blood clots, shorter/longer menstruations and menstrual cycles, premenstrual symptoms, moderate and intense menstrual pain. CONCLUSIONS This study suggests that age, educational attainment, caregiving, experiencing financial hardship and a poorer self-rated health may shape or mediate menstrual characteristics. It thus highlights the need to investigate and address social inequities of health in menstrual research.

Abstract
Background Heavy menstrual bleeding is a common problem that can significantly affect women's lives until menopause. There is a lack of evidence on longer-term outcomes after seeking health care and treatment for heavy menstrual bleeding. Objectives To assess the continuation rates of medical treatments and the rates of ablative and surgical interventions among women who had participated in the ECLIPSE trial (ISRCTN86566246) 10 years after initial management for heavy menstrual bleeding in primary care. To explore experiences of heavy menstrual bleeding and influences on treatment for women. Design This was a prospective observational cohort study, with a parallel qualitative study. Setting Primary care. Participants A total of 206 women with heavy menstrual bleeding who had participated in the ECLIPSE trial consented to providing outcome data via a questionnaire approximately 10 years after original randomisation. Their mean age at follow-up was 54 years (standard deviation 5 years). A purposeful sample of 36 women also participated in semistructured qualitative interviews. Interventions The ECLIPSE trial randomised participants to either the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (52 mg) or the usual medical treatment (oral tranexamic acid, mefenamic acid, combined oestrogen-progestogen or progesterone alone, chosen as clinically appropriate by general practitioners and women). Women could subsequently swap or cease their allocated treatment. Main outcome measures The main outcome measures were rates of ablative and surgical treatments; the rate of continuation of medical treatments; and quality of life using the Short Form questionnaire-36 items and EuroQol-5 Dimensions; women's experiences of heavy menstrual bleeding; and the influences on their decisions around treatment. Results Over the 10-year follow-up period, 60 out of 206 (29%) women had received a surgical intervention [hysterectomy, n = 34 (17%); endometrial ablation, n = 26 (13%)]. Between 5 and 10 years post trial intervention, 89 women (43%) had ceased all medical treatments and 88 (43%) were using the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system alone or in combination with other oral treatments. More women in the usual medical treatment group had also used the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system than women in the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system group. Fifty-six women (28%) used the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system at 10 years. There was no statistically significant difference in generic quality-of-life scores between the two original trial groups, although small improvements in the majority of domains were seen in both groups across time. Women reported wide-ranging impacts on their quality of life and normalisation of their heavy menstrual bleeding experience as a result of the taboo around menstruation. Women's treatment decisions and experiences were influenced by the perceived quality of health-care interactions with clinicians and their climacteric status. Limitations Fewer than half of the original 571 participants participated; however, the cohort was clinically and demographically representative of the original trial population. Conclusions Medical treatments for women with heavy menstrual bleeding can be initiated in primary care, with low rates of surgical intervention and improvement in quality of life observed 10 years later. Clinicians should be aware of the considerable challenges that women with heavy menstrual bleeding experience at presentation and subsequently over time, and the importance and value to women of patient-centred communication in this context. Future work Any further evaluation of treatments for heavy menstrual bleeding should include long-term evaluation of outcomes and adherence. Abstract
Background Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is a common problem in reproductive age group and perimenopausal age group being responsible for many outpatient visits. Traditional management of AUB consists of giving mefenamic acid, tranexamic acid, or their combination with progestogens or hormonal intrauterine deviced levonorgestrel intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) for severe or nonresponsive cases. The objective of the current study was to study the efficacy and safety of adding diosmin along with tranexamic acid and mefenamic acid in reducing menstrual blood loss in AUB patients. Materials and Methods It was a prospective double-blind randomized controlled trial in which 900 mg of diosmin was given once daily along with 500 mg tranexamic acid and 250 mg mefenamic acid during menstruation (Group I-92 patients), or only tranexamic acid and mefenamic acid during menstruation (Group II-92 patients). Results Mean age, parity, body mass index, and socioeconomic status were similar in the two groups. It was 35.68 years versus 36.78 years, 2.2 versus 2.3, 23.68 kg/m2 versus 24.62 kg/m2 respectively. Mean days of bleeding before this treatment were 6.8 versus 6.6 (P = 0.33) and were 3.5 versus 5.2 (P = 0.02) after treatment. There was a significant reduction in both groups as compared to before treatment (P = 0.021 in Group I, 0.027 in Group II) but the reduction was greater in Group I (P = 0.02). The amount of blood loss was 385 ml versus 390 ml (P = 0.7) before treatment which was significantly reduced in both groups to 68 ml versus 112 ml (P = 0.02 in Group I, 0.03 in Group II) with more decrease in Group I than in Group II (P = 0.01). Mean hemoglobin at beginning of the study was 8.4 versus 8.5 g/dl in Group I and Group II (P = 0.02) and significantly increased in both groups posttreatment to 10.9 and 9.8 g/dl in Group I and Group II (P = 0.012 in Group I, 0.011 in Group II) with increase being more in Group I than Group II (P = 0.03). Pictorial blood assessment chart score was 398 versus 406 (P = 0.35) before treatment and decreased significantly to 86.5 and 110.5 (P = 0.001 in Group I, 0.001 in Group II) with more decrease being in Group I than II (P = 0.01). There was significant decrease in dysmenorrhea with both treatments with no difference in the two groups. Various adverse effects such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, and headache were equal in the two groups. Conclusion Both the group's diosmin with tranexamic acid and mefenamic acid (Group I) and tranexamic acid and mefenamic acid (Group II) were efficacious in reducing menstrual blood loss, number of menstrual days and dysmenorrhea with effect being more by addition of diosmin. Adverse effects were equal in both the two groups.

INTRODUCTION Women and girls with haemophilia (WGH) may have spontaneous/traumatic bleeding similar to that in males with haemophilia, and in addition excessive bleeding during menstruation and delivery. AIM To characterize WGH in China and provide guidance for better management. METHODS We retrospectively analysed the characteristics of WGH registered in the Haemophilia Treatment Center Collaborative Network of China (HTCCNC) Registry, including demographics, diagnosis and treatment, bleeding characteristics, obstetrical and gynaecological experiences, and surgical history. RESULTS A total of 61 females had confirmed haemophilia. Diagnosis and treatment were typically delayed, longer in mild haemophilia than in severe and moderate. The most frequently reported bleeding manifestations were haemarthrosis in severe and moderate patients, and cutaneous bleeding in mild patients. Among 45 postmenarcheal WGH, 21 (46.7%) had history of heavy menstrual bleeding, but only three received treatments. Prenatal diagnosis and management of perinatal haemorrhage were inadequate. Of 34 deliveries in 30 women, nine deliveries were complicated by postpartum haemorrhage, and 22 offspring carried mutations causing haemophilia. Forty-four surgical procedures were performed in 29 patients. Those procedures receiving preoperative coagulation factors coverage were significantly less likely to have excessive bleeding than those who did not (P = .003). CONCLUSION This is the first and largest study describing WGH in China. There are currently deficiencies in the identification, diagnosis, and management of these patients. Improving health insurance policies, establishing haemophilia centres, and multidisciplinary teams for bleeding and perinatal or perioperative management will help reduce morbidity and mortality.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is the main cause of demand for gynecological care during the reproductive period, with negative consequences on women's lives. In Brazil, data on the prevalence of AUB is scarce and does not reflect the national reality. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the prevalence of AUB and associated factors in Brazil. METHODS Multicenter cross-sectional study, including 8 centers representing the 5 official geographic regions of Brazil. It included postmenarchal women who answered a sociodemographic questionnaire, with socioeconomic stratum and data related to uterine bleeding (self-perception of AUB and objective data). RESULTS 1928 women were included, with 35.5±12.5 years of age, 167 postmenopausal. The 1761 women in their reproductive period, had a menstrual cycle duration of 29.2±20.6 days, with bleeding for 5.6±4.0 days. In these, the prevalence of AUB, considering self-perception by the women, was 31.4%. Only among women who considered their bleeding abnormal, the menstrual cycle lasted less than 24 days in 28.4%, bleeding lasted longer than 8 days in 21.8%, 34.1% reported intermenstrual bleeding and 12.8% reported postcoital bleeding. Also, regarding these women, 47% reported a previous diagnosis of anemia, with 6% requiring intravenous treatment (iron or blood transfusion). Half of the women mentioned that the menstrual period had a negative impact on quality of life, while this worsening occurs in about 80% of those with self-perception of AUB. CONCLUSION In Brazil, the prevalence of AUB is 31.4%, assessed by self-perception, in agreement with objective AUB parameters. The menstrual period has a negative impact on the quality of life of 8 out of 10 women with AUB.

Abstract
Study Objective To examine long-term outcomes from the pivotal study that evaluated the safety and effectiveness of the Cerene® Cryotherapy Device (Channel Medsystems, Berkeley, CA) in premenopausal women with heavy menstrual bleeding due to benign causes who have completed childbearing. Methods The prospective, multicenter, single-arm, open-label study had eight sites in the USA, one in Mexico, and two in Canada. Inclusion criteria included uterine sound ≤10 cm, endometrial cavity length 2.5 to 6.5 cm, age 25 to 50 years, a pictorial blood loss assessment chart score of ≥150, no submucosal myomata and/or uterine obstruction, distortion, or abnormality. A total of 242 subjects underwent a 2.5-minute cryoablation. Long-term follow-up visits were conducted at Month 24 and Month 36. Data collected included gynecological adverse events, description of last menstrual period, contraception status, self-report of pregnancy, medical or surgical interventions to treat abnormal uterine bleeding, satisfaction, recommendation, and quality of life (QoL). QoL outcomes were measured with the Menorrhagia Impact Questionnaire (MIQ) and the Premenstrual Symptoms Impact Survey (PMSIS™). Results 201 subjects completed their Month 36 final study visit. Subject outcomes were comparable to those at Month 12. Eighty-nine percent of subjects reported amenorrhea, a lighter-than-normal, or normal period, 91% of subjects had no or slight limitations in MIQ measured activities, and 85% reported premenstrual symptoms at a low frequency. Eighty-five percent of the subjects were satisfied or very satisfied. The cumulative incidence of hysterectomy was 5% and reintervention was 8.7%. Forty-nine gynecologic adverse events (AE) were reported; one non-serious AE, postcoital bleeding, was reported as related to the procedure. No serious device-related or procedure-related AEs were reported. Conclusion Study data demonstrate that the positive effects of Cerene Cryotherapy Device treatment are sustained through Month 36 and that the risks associated with the device and procedure are low (ClinicalTrials.gov; NCT02842736).

Abstract
Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) may cause menstrual problems. This cross‐sectional study assessed menstrual problems in premenopausal chronic ITP women by several questionnaires, including the pictorial bleeding assessment calendar (PBAC; score ≥100 indicates heavy menstrual bleeding [HMB]), and the menorrhagia multiattribute scale (MMAS). Spearman was used for assessing correlations. A literature review was performed in Pubmed. The cohort comprised 37 women (mean age 31 ± 9). A total of 29/37 (78%) had experienced clinical menstrual problems in the present or past. Of the 33 patients who returned the PBAC, 13 (39%) had a score of ≥100. The median MMAS score was 79 (IQR 60–95). The PBAC scores correlated with the MMAS. Both questionnaires were unrelated to the platelet count. Patients with a levonorgestrel intrauterine device (LNG‐IUD) had lower PBAC scores than patients with other or no hormonal therapy. MMAS scores were correlated with fatigue. The review identified 14 papers. HMB occurred in 6%–55% at ITP diagnosis and 17%–79% during disease. Menstrual symptoms influenced the quality of life, particularly in patients with a low platelet count. This explorative study suggested that HMB is frequent in women with chronic ITP despite management and platelet counts >50 *109/l. An LNG‐IUD seemed to reduce blood loss significantly.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To provide French guidelines for the management of women with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB). DESIGN A consensus committee of 26 experts was formed. A formal conflict-of-interest (COI) policy was developed at the beginning of the process and enforced throughout. The entire guidelines process was conducted independently of any industrial funding (i.e. pharmaceutical, or medical devices). The authors were advised to follow the rules of the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE®) system to guide assessment of quality of evidence. The potential drawbacks of making strong recommendations in the presence of low-quality evidence were emphasized. METHODS The last guidelines from the Collège national des gynécologues et obstétriciens français (CNGOF) on the management of women with AUB was published in 2008. The literature seems now sufficient for an update. The committee studied questions within 7 fields (diagnosis; adolescent; idiopathic AUB; endometrial hyperplasia and polyps; fibroids type 0 to 2; fibroids type 3 and more; adenomyosis). Each question was formulated in a PICO (Patients, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) format and the evidence profiles were produced. The literature review and recommendations were made according to the GRADE® methodology. RESULTS The experts' synthesis work and the application of the GRADE method resulted in 36 recommendations. Among the formalized recommendations, 19 present a strong agreement and 17 a weak agreement. Fourteen questions did not find any response in the literature. We preferred to abstain from recommending instead of providing expert advice. CONCLUSIONS The 36 recommendations made it possible to specify the diagnostic and therapeutic strategies of various clinical situations managed by the practitioner, from the simplest to the most complex.
