Abstract
PURPOSE Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are among the leading causes of death worldwide. Recently, non-classical risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), have gained attention. Both CVD and LUTS are prevalent among aging populations and share common vascular risk factors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential relationship between Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease risk and functional bladder capacity among men with LUTS. METHODS This study was conducted on 86 men aged 40-79 with complaints of LUTS who were asked for digital rectal examinations, blood tests on serum total cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and mid-stream urine tests for microscopy and culture. For evaluating patients' LUTS, a 24-h voiding diary was asked. The atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVD) score comprises the patient's current age, sex, race, diabetes mellitus status, smoking status, hypertension status, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, and HDL levels. RESULTS According to the ASCVD score, 46 and 40 patients were categorized as low and high risks for cardiovascular diseases, respectively. Based on the FBC, 47 patients had decreased FBC and the rest were normal. According to logistic regression, it was determined that age can be considered a predictive variable for decreased FBC and the lower FBC can be considered as a predictive factor in the high-risk group for cardiovascular diseases (p = 0.002). CONCLUSION It seems that decreased FBC is related to a higher predicted cardiovascular event rate in men with LUTS and could be considered a predictor of ASCVD risk.

Abstract
Prostatic hyperplasia is very common in elderly men and is a typical disease that reduces quality of life. Histologically, hyperplasia of the prostate gland causes obstruction at the bladder outlet, resulting in symptoms such as a weak urine stream. Various factors have been considered to cause histological enlargement of the prostate, but the underlying cause is still unknown. The factors that cause prostate hyperplasia can be broadly classified into intrinsic and extrinsic ones. Extrinsic factors include things that we directly come into contact with such as bacteria and food. On the other hand, intrinsic factors are those that cause changes in functions originally provided in the body due to some cause, including extrinsic factors, such as chronic inflammation and an imbalance of sex hormones. A large number of reports have been made to date regarding the etiology of prostatic hyperplasia, although they have not yet clarified the fundamental cause(s). The various factors currently known should be outlined for future research. Should it be possible to prevent this highly prevalent prostatic hyperplasia which is mainly cause of dcreasing quality of life, there is no doubt that it would be a huge contribution to humanity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gut microbiome is a community of microorganisms that lives in the human intestine and exerts various functions on the host, including metabolic, immunoregulatory, and control over cell proliferation. Gut microbiome alterations have been associated with various pathological conditions, such as diabetes mellitus, obesity, and cardiovascular diseases. Gut-prostate axis is explained by the association between gut microbiome quantitative and functional alterations along with increased intestinal epithelial permeability with prostatediseases. However, the pathophysiological mechanisms and clinical importance of this association are not completely clarified yet. METHODS We conducted a narrative review of the most relevant articles in the Medline (US National Library of Medicine, Bethesda, MD, USA), Scopus (Elsevier, Amsterdam, The Netherlands) and Web of Science Core Collection (Thomson Reuters, Toronto, ON, Canada) databases. No chronological restrictions were applied, and the most related papers published until December 2023 were included. RESULTS Gut microbiota (GM) and its metabolites are capable of modifying host androgen level, as well as prostate cancer (PCa) therapy response. Moreover, patients with inflammatory bowel disease have higher rates of prostatitis-like symptoms and a potential risk of developing PCa. CONCLUSIONS There is evidence that interventions on the GM and its metabolites have a high potential to serve as diagnostic and therapeutic tools for prostate diseases, including PCa.

Abstract
Although it is known that changes in bacterial components of the urinary microbiome are associated with overactive bladder (OAB), the specific role of viruses is still insufficiently investigated. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the role of urinary viruses in woman with OAB, and analyze the potential relationship between viruses, bacteria and disease. Catheterized urine samples were collected from 55 women with OAB and 18 control individuals. OAB patients fulfilling the following criteria were considered eligible for this study: female, 18 years of age or older; presented with classic OAB symptoms defined by the International Continence Society; and OAB Symptom Score (OABSS) total score ≥ 3 points and question 3 (urgency) score ≥ 2 points. Based on results of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS), all participants were divided into virus-infected and virus-uninfected groups for analysis. The results of mNGS showed that the diversity of the OAB group was lower than that of the control group when focused on bacterial sequences, which was consistent with our previous study. According to the questionnaire filled out by the patients, OABSS and 8-item OAB questionnaire, female OAB patients who had viruses detected in their urine had more severe symptoms. In parallel, John Cunningham virus (mainly subtype 7 and subtype 2) was the most frequently detected virus in urine. Correlation analysis indicated that risk factors for virus infection in OAB patients include age, habit of holding urine and pelvic surgery history. Given our preliminary data, viral infection can aggravate OAB severity and affect the composition of bacterial. Further research is required to explain how viral infections can aggravate OAB patient symptoms and cause bacterial changes.

Abstract
JC polyomavirus (JCPyV) belongs to the human polyomavirus family. Based on alternative splicing, the early region encodes the large and small T antigens, while the late region encodes the capsid structural proteins (VP1, VP2, and VP3) and the agnoprotein. The regulatory transcription factors for JCPyV include Sp1, TCF-4, DDX1, YB-1, LCP-1, Purα, GF-1, and NF-1. JCPyV enters tonsillar tissue through the intake of raw sewage, inhalation of air droplets, or parent-to-child transmission. It persists quiescently in lymphoid and renal tissues during latency. Both TGF-β1 and TNF-α stimulates JCPyV multiplication, while interferon-γ suppresses the process. The distinct distribution of caspid receptors (α-2, 6-linked sialic acid, non-sialylated glycosaminoglycans, and serotonin) determines the infection capabilities of JCPyV virions, and JCPyV entry is mediated by clathrin-mediated endocytosis. In permissive cells, JCPyV undergoes lytic proliferation and causes progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, while its DNA is inserted into genomic DNA and leads to carcinogenesis in non-permissive cells. T antigen targets p53, β-catenin, IRS, Rb, TGF-β1, PI3K/Akt and AMPK signal pathways in cancer cells. Intracranial injection of T antigen into animals results in neural tumors, and transgenic mice develop neural tumors, lens tumor, breast cancer, gastric, Vater’s, colorectal and pancreatic cancers, insulinoma, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Additionally, JCPyV DNA and its encoded products can be detected in the brain tissues of PML patients and brain, oral, esophageal, gastric, colorectal, breast, cervical, pancreatic, and hepatocellular cancer tissues. Therefore, JCPyV might represent an etiological risk factor for carcinogenesis and should be evaluated for early prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancers.
