Abstract
INTRODUCTION Over 50% of people affected by cancer report unmet support needs. To address unmet information and psychological needs, non-government organisations such as Cancer Councils (Australia) have developed state-based telephone cancer information and support services. Due to competing demands, evidence of the value of these services is needed to ensure that future investment makes the best use of scarce resources. This research aims to determine the costs and broader economic and social value of a telephone support service, to inform future funding and service provision. METHODS AND ANALYSIS A codesigned, evaluative social return on investment analysis (SROI) will be conducted to estimate and compare the costs and monetised benefits of Cancer Council Victoria's (CCV) telephone support line, 13 11 20, over 1-year and 3-year benefit periods. Nine studies will empirically estimate the parameters to inform the SROI and calculate the ratio (economic and social value to value invested): step 1 mapping outcomes (in-depth analysis of CCV's 13 11 20 recorded call data; focus groups and interviews); step 2 providing evidence of outcomes (comparative survey of people affected by cancer who do and do not call CCV's 13 11 20; general public survey); step 3 valuing the outcomes (financial proxies, value games); step 4 establishing the impact (Delphi); step 5 calculating the net benefit and step 6 service improvement (discrete choice experiment (DCE), 'what if' analysis). Qualitative (focus groups, interviews) and quantitative studies (natural language processing, cross-sectional studies, Delphi) and economic techniques (willingness-to-pay, financial proxies, value games, DCE) will be applied. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethics approval for each of the studies will be sought independently as the project progresses. So far, ethics approval has been granted for the first two studies. As each study analysis is completed, results will be disseminated through presentation, conferences, publications and reports to the partner organisations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) experience a substantial decline in quality of life (QoL) and mood during their hospitalization for intensive chemotherapy, yet few interventions have been developed to enhance patient-reported outcomes during treatment. METHODS We conducted a pilot randomized trial (ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT03372291) of DREAMLAND, a psychological mobile application for patients with a new diagnosis of AML who are receiving intensive chemotherapy. Patients were randomly assigned to DREAMLAND or usual care. DREAMLAND included four required modules focused on: (1) supportive psychotherapy to help patients deal with the initial shock of diagnosis, (2) psychoeducation to manage illness expectations, (3) psychosocial skill-building to promote effective coping, and (4) self-care. The primary end point was feasibility, which was defined as ≥60% of eligible patients enrolling and 60% of those enrolled completing ≥60% of the required modules. We assessed patient QoL (the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Leukemia), psychological distress (the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9), symptom burden (the Edmonton Symptom Assessment Scale), and self-efficacy (the Cancer Self-Efficacy Scale) at baseline and at day 20 after postchemotherapy. RESULTS We enrolled 60 of 90 eligible patients (66.7%), and 62.1% completed ≥75% of the intervention modules. At day 20 after chemotherapy, patients who were randomized to DREAMLAND reported improved QoL scores (132.06 vs. 110.72; p =.001), lower anxiety symptoms (3.54 vs. 5.64; p = .010) and depression symptoms (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale: 4.76 vs. 6.29; p = .121; Patient Health Questionnaire-9: 4.62 vs. 8.35; p < .001), and improved symptom burden (24.89 vs. 40.60; p = .007) and self-efficacy (151.84 vs. 135.43; p = .004) compared with the usual care group. CONCLUSIONS A psychological mobile application for patients with newly diagnosed AML is feasible to integrate during hospitalization for intensive chemotherapy and may improve QoL, mood, symptom burden, and self-efficacy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of brief psychosocial support for patients with cancer and their relatives regarding their mental health. DESIGN Quasi-experimental controlled trial with measurements at three time points (baseline, after 2 weeks and after 12 weeks). SETTING The intervention group (IG) was recruited at two cancer counselling centres in Germany. The control group (CG) included patients with cancer or relatives who did not seek support. PARTICIPANTS In total, n=885 participants were recruited and n=459 were eligible for the analysis (IG, n=264; CG, n=195). INTERVENTION One to two psychosocial support sessions (approximately hour) provided by a psycho-oncologist or social worker. PRIMARY AND SECONDARY OUTCOME MEASURES The primary outcome was distress. The secondary outcomes were anxiety and depressive symptoms, well-being, cancer-specific and generic quality of life (QoL), self-efficacy and fatigue. RESULTS The linear mixed model analysis showed significant differences between IG and CG at follow-up for distress (d=0.36), p=0.001), depressive (d=0.22), p=0.005) and anxiety symptoms (d=0.22), p=0.003), well-being (d=0.26, p=0.002), QoL (QoL mental; d=0.26, p=0.003), self-efficacy (d=0.21, p=0.011) and QoL (global; d=0.27, p=0.009). The changes were not significant for QoL (physical; d=0.04, p=0.618), cancer-specific QoL (symptoms; d=0.13, p=0.093), cancer-specific QoL (functional; d=0.08, p=0.274) and fatigue (d=0.04, p=0.643). CONCLUSION The results suggest that brief psychosocial support is associated with the improvement of mental health of patients with cancer and their relatives after 3 months. Abstract
Introduction: Bone cancer causes a significant mental health burden. Although the mental health implications of cancer as a whole have been widely discussed, there is limited evidence regarding the psychiatric and psychological sequelae of malignant and benign bone neoplasms in particular.
Purpose: To summarize the scientific literature, present relevant knowledge gaps and discuss a number of recommendations. Methodology: The authors searched Pubmed/Medline and Google Scholar with keywords (mental health, bone cancer, musculoskeletal neoplasms, psychiatric comorbidities). When appropriate, MeSH terms and Boolean operators were used. Relevant peer reviewed studies published in English, French or German until 05 May 2021 were included.
Results and Discussion: Loss of mobility, decrease of physical activity, chronic pain and amputations in combination with patient’s previous psychiatric history, socioeconomic conditions, cancer biology and treatment-related side effects undermine the mental wellbeing of patients and carers. Since March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has posed an additional burden, which is yet to be comprehensively evaluated.
Conclusion: More research and solid action towards the integration of mental health care into the management of bone cancer is crucial

Abstract
Simple Summary People with cancer often experience psychological and social needs, related to their disease and treatments, that can negatively impact quality of life. Various social interventions can be helpful but are not always offered to patients who would benefit from them. This guideline aims to help oncology professionals address the psychosocial aspects of their adult patients and of those who care for them. It was compiled by a multidisciplinary panel, including patients, using rigorous methodology. Topics include patient information and communication, screening and management of psychosocial needs, and caregiver support. In particular, evidence emphasizes that nurses play a central role in providing psychosocial care and information for cancer patients, and that Physician communication skills must be improved with specific evidence-based training. In addition, psychosocial needs must be promptly detected and managed, especially with appropriate non-pharmacological interventions. Abstract Psychosocial morbidity can have negative consequences for cancer patients, including maladaptive coping, poor treatment adherence, and lower quality of life. Evidence shows that psychosocial interventions can positively impact quality of life, as well as symptoms and side effects; however, they are not always offered to patients who might benefit from them. These guidelines were produced by a multidisciplinary panel of 16 experts, including patients, following GRADE methodology. The panel framed clinical questions and voted on outcomes to investigate. Studies identified by rigorous search strategies were assessed to rate certainty of evidence, and recommendations were formulated by the panel. Although the quality of the evidence found was generally moderate, interventions could be recommended aimed at improving patient information, communication with healthcare professionals and involvement in decision-making; detecting and managing patient psychosocial needs, particularly with non-pharmacological therapy; and supporting families of patients with advanced cancer. The role of nurses as providers of information and psychosocial care is stressed. Most recommended interventions do not appear to necessitate new services or infrastructures, and therefore do not require allocation of additional resources, but predominantly involve changes in clinical staff behavior and/or ward organization. Patients should be made aware of psychosocial care standards so that they can expect to receive them.
