A study on the interaction of nile blue with Uracils: A spectroscopic and computational approach

The present work focuses the investigation on fluorescence quenching of nile blue (NB) in presence of various substituted uracil molecules. UV-Visible absorption studies signify the possibility of ground state complex formation between NB and uracil molecules. The increase in concentration of quencher molecules greatly influences the emission spectra of NB. The bimolecular quenching rate constant (k_q) were calculated and found to depend on the position and electronic properties of substituent in quencher molecules. Fluorescence quenching experiments were performed at different temperature to calculate the thermodynamic parameters. The fluorescence lifetime measurements show that the quenching process proceeds through static quenching. The mechanism of fluorescence quenching includes the possibility of proton transfer. The bond dissociation enthalpy (BDE) reveals the release of H from the quencher molecules. The quencher molecules possess antioxidant activity and identified using deoxyribose degradation assay. The position of substituent and its electronic property are key features to address the antioxidant activity of uracil molecules.

Removal of Phenol from Steel Plant Wastewater in Three Dimensional Electrochemical (TDE) Process using CoFe2O4@AC/H2O2

This study investigated the removal of phenol from steel industry wastewater by three dimensional electrochemical (TDE) process using CoFe2O4 nanobiocomposite based activated carbon in the presence of H2O2 (EC-CoFe2O4@AC-H2O2). In this study, CoFe2O4 nanobiocomposite-foundation activated carbon (CoFe2O4@AC) was used as microelectrode, adsorbent, and activator for peroxide hydrogen. The removal efficiency of phenol and COD was investigated through the parameters of pH, contact time, CoFe2O4@AC dosage, current density, and H2O2 concentration. The highest removal rates of phenol and COD were >99% and 98%, respectively. Also, steel plant wastewater under the optimal conditions of pH = 6.5, current density = 15 mA cm−2, contact time = 25 min, H2O2 concentration of 1.0 mM, and CoFe2O4@AC dose = 0.3 g L−1. Kinetic analysis revealed that the adsorption experimental data was best fitted by the pseudo-first-order model.

4-Acetamidophenol Binding Mechanism with DNA by UV-Vis and FTIR Techniques Based on Binding Energy, LUMO and HOMO Orbitals and Geometry of Molecule

Present study was conducted to appraise the interaction mechanism of 4-acetamidophenol (4-AP) with DNA based on UV-Vis and FTIR techniques based on binding energy, isolated atomic energy, LUMO and HOMO orbitals gap and geometry of molecule. Analysis revealed the groove binding and intercalation mode of interaction between 4-AP and DNA since hyperchromic and bathochromic shifts were observed in response of interaction of DNA. The planar part of interacting molecule intercalated with DNA and non-planar part of 4-acetamidophenol bounded with DNA (groove binding). The constants for binding between 4-AP and DNA were calculated and 20.12 × 103 mol−1 dm3 binding constant was recorded at pH 4.7, whereas this value was 5.32 × 103 mol−1 dm3 for the pH 7.4. The binding constant value for interaction of 4-AP with DNA revealed the possibility of oral administration of 4-AP. The 4-AP binding with DNA is spontaneous process, which was confirmed from negative value of free energy at room temperature. FTIR study revealed that C–H and C=C (aromatic) functional groups were involved in binding at pH 4.7 and C=O (amide) was involved in groove binding, whereas C–H (aromatic) was responsible for intercalation at pH 7.4 and C–H (alkaline) and C=O (amide) were responsible for groove binding at pH 4.7.
