Abstract
Aim The aim of this research was to assess the damage to root dentin that arises from retreatment with different engine-driven NiTi retreatment files employing micro-computed tomography. Materials and Methods Sixty mandibular premolar teeth having a single root and root canal that were recently extracted were gathered and stored. The specimens were de-coronated at the cementoenamel junction under water irrigation to achieve a homogeneous root length of 16 millimeters. Gutta-percha cones were coated with sealants and placed within the radicular canal till the WL. All sixty premolars were randomly assigned to one of the following three groups, with every group comprising 20 sample teeth each. Group 1: MTwo Retreatment files, Group 2: ProTaper Universal Retreatment files, Group 3: Edge File XR Retreatment rotary files. The quantity of root dentinal injury was estimated by deducting the dentin volume (mm3) in the pre- and post-therapy micro-CT scans at apical, middle, and cervical 3rd points. Results An intra-group comparative scrutiny showed that lower radicular dentinal injury was noted at apical 3rd (0.31 ± 0.16, 0.62 ± 0.02) in Edge File XR Retreatment file system and MTwo Retreatment file system in that order. The statistically significant disparity was seen amid the MTwo Retreatment file, Edge File XR Retreatment file system and ProTaper Universal Retreatment file, Edge File XR Retreatment file system with P value of 0.001on intergroup assessment. Conclusion In spite of the limitations that this research had, it was inferred that each assessed file system proficiently eradicated the obturated material through the retreatment procedure performed. In addition, it was seen that the Edge File XR group showed lesser root dentin damage in contrast to MTwo and ProTaper Universal file systems.

Abstract
This study is aimed at evaluating the use of microcomputed tomography (micro-CT) analysis and the dentinal microcrack formation following retreatment of bioceramic sealer employing adjunct laser-activated irrigation and ultrasonic-activated irrigation. Thirty sound human single-canal teeth (n = 30) obturated using the single-cone technique with bioceramic sealer were retreated using nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary files. The sample was randomly divided into three equal groups: group 1, the control group, was not subjected to further treatment; group 2 underwent ultrasonic activation of irrigants; group 3 underwent active irrigation with a diode laser (980 nm wavelength). Using micro-CT, the teeth were scanned before and after retreatment protocols. Two calibrated experienced observers viewed the cross-sectional images and calculated the number of dentinal defects. The presence of any crack or craze line on the external root surface or internal canal wall was counted. Data were analyzed using Friedman's two-way analysis of variance and Fisher's exact test. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. A significant increase occurred in the number of cracks post retreatment protocols, specifically in the coronal and middle canal thirds, compared to pre- and postinstrumentation (p = 0.0001). However, ultrasonic- or laser-activated irrigation did not result in a significant increase in the number of cracks (p = 0.345). NiTi rotary root canal retreatment was associated with a significant increase in dentinal microcracks. However, employing ultrasonic- or laser-activated irrigation as adjunct retreatment techniques did not reveal a significant increase in dentinal microcracks within the roots.

Abstract
Background One of the most important goal of non surgical endodontic retreatment is the successful removal of gutta percha and sealers from the root canal system. A variety of techniques have been recommended for retreatment procedures for the removal of gutta-percha and sealers with or without the help of adjunctive chemical solvents, by using stainless steel hand files or nickel-titanium rotary files, gate glidden burs, heated instruments, ultrasonic instruments, and lasers 1,3. The current advancements in the design of NiTi instruments have proved efficacious in the removal of filling materials from the root canal wall and various studies have also confirmed their cleaning ability and efficacy 4,5. Nevertheless, the use of rotary instrumentation can lead to the formation of dentinal cracks in the root canal dentin. Many researchers have reported the incidence of crack formation and propagation after the procedure with manual, rotary and reciprocating instruments. The behavior of rotary instruments in the generation of defects have been the point of greatest interest during many years 6. These dentinal cracks can be defined as defects with a complete crack line extending from inner root canal space up to the outer surface of the root when the tensile stress in the root canal wall exceeds the tensile stress of dentin 7. Aim This study was conducted to investigate and to compare the amount of dentinal microcracks formation with various new instrumentation methods and conventional hand filing method. It also looks into amount of gutta-percha removed after retreatment from the canal and the time required for all the instrumentation technique. Methodology Sixty extracted human maxillary first molars with curved roots were mounted on addition silicone impression material incorporated in an aluminium hollow block, then instrumented using step-back preparation with 35 size K files. Obturation was done using gutta-percha with AH plus sealer. These were stored for 14 days and divided into three groups Mani GPR, Endostar Re Endo and H file and were subjected to retreatment procedures. Retreatment was considered complete when no filling material was observed on the canal wall and the canal was smooth and free of visible debris. The samples were examined under scanning electron microscope and the number of cracks were calculated. The percentage of root canal filling material and time taken was recorded. Statistical Analysis The data obtained were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, ANOVA (Analysis of Variance), chi-square test and Scheffe's post hoc test through SPSS for window (version 22.0). Result All the techniques showed similar amount of crack propagation, with no statistical difference between the group. Retreatment done using H Files required more time and removed less material. The coronal third showed less amount of gutta-percha remnants than the apical third in all groups. Conclusion All the groups showed a similar amount of crack propagation. Less number of cracks were observed in the coronal one third and more amount of cracks were found at the apical third. Endostar RE Endo rotary instrument proved to be most effective and least time-consuming. Hedstrom Files required more time and removed less material.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the microcrack formation of moderately and severely curved root canals following instrumentation with Neoniti rotary files using micro-computed tomography. This in vitro study evaluated 18 extracted sound mandibular molars with two separate mesial canals and foramina in two groups (n = 9) with 5−20° (moderate) and 20−40° (severe) root canal curvature. The number of microcracks in the root canal walls was counted at baseline by micro-CT. Subsequently, the root canals were instrumented with 0.20/0.06 v Neoniti files as single files with a torque of 1.5 Ncm and a speed of 400 rpm. The number of microcracks was counted again postoperatively on micro-CT images using Amira software. Statistical analysis was performed using the Shapiro−Wilk test, Levene’s test and repeated-measures ANOVA (α = 0.05). The mean number of microcracks significantly increased postoperatively in both the moderately curved (11.59 ± 9.74 vs. 8.2 ± 7.4; p = 0.001) and the severely curved (13.23 ± 5.64 vs. 7.20 ± 5.94; p < 0.001) groups. However, the differences between the two groups were not significant (p = 0.668). Based on the results obtained, it can be stated that the instrumentation of moderately and severely curved root canals with Neoniti rotary files increases the number of microcracks. However, the higher degree of curvature does not necessarily translate to a higher number of microcracks after root canal instrumentation with this specific rotary system and methodological procedures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although single-file rotary systems are accepted in the field of paediatric dentistry in terms of providing time advantage, research works continue due to the variable anatomical structure of the root canal. AIM This study aimed to evaluate rotary systems in different kinematics in terms of microcracks and the shaping of the danger zone in primary molars by micro-CT. DESIGN The mesial canals of primary molars (n = 30) were used. Root canals in each group (n = 10) were prepared with single-file rotary systems (One Shape®, OS; XP-endo® Shaper, XP-ES; WaveOne Gold, WOG). The images were evaluated for dentin thickness in the danger zone and microcrack formation. RESULTS WOG caused the highest dentin reduction in the danger zone area. OS led to significantly less dentin reduction than XP-ES and WOG (P < .05). The XP-ES showed the highest number of microcracks (P < .05). No statistically significant difference was found between WOG and OS (P > .05). In all systems, more microcracks were observed in the middle third than coronal and apical. CONCLUSION Within the limitations of this study, the rotary systems were superior to reciprocating in terms of shaping ability in the danger zone. It is thought that further studies with different systems should be designed considering the anatomical variations and chemical composition of primary teeth.

Abstract
Aim: The aim of the current study was to evaluate the radicular dentin defect during retreatment employed diverse NiTi hand and rotary retreatment file systems. Materials and Methods: Eighty mandibular premolars with a single root and root canal that were recently extracted were gathered and stored. The premolars were subject to decoronation at cementoenamel junction (CEJ) beneath irrigation with water to attain a uniform radicular length of 16 mm. Gutta-percha cones were covered with sealer and introduced into the root canal up to the working length. Eighty teeth were allocated at random into four groups with each group consisting of 20 samples. Group I: Control, Group II: EdgeFile XR retreatment rotary files, Group III: ProTaper Universal retreatment files, and Group IV: MTwo retreatment files. Under constant water cooling, the roots were cut flat with a diamond disc at apical third (3 mm), middle third (6 mm), and cervical third (9 mm) points. Stereomicroscope was employed to visualize the sections below × 20 magnification. Results: A statistically significant difference was noted among the groups with respect to the formation of radicular dentinal defects at 3 mm (P < 0.01) and 6 mm (P < 0.001), while the sections at 9 mm did not exhibit any statistically significant difference (P > 0.598). Conclusion: Despite the limitations in this study, it was concluded that all the evaluated file systems efficiently eliminated root canal filling during the retreatment. In addition, it was noted that the EdgeFile XR group exhibited fewer root dentin defects in comparison with the MTwo and ProTaper Universal group of files.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The present study aimed to describe an in vitro study model to investigate root surface strain (RSS) and its correlation with the initiation/propagation of microcracks during different endodontic procedures. METHODS Four lower human incisors extracted microcrack free were selected by micro-computed tomographic imaging. Two strain gauges were bonded to the root surface of each incisor. Then, the teeth were prepared to reproduce the periodontal ligament artificially. The gauges were attached to a data acquisition system. The RSS was recorded during the entire endodontic procedure, which consisted of accessing the endodontic cavity, cleaning, shaping preparation with an Mtwo rotary system (VDW, Munich, Germany), and filling with a standardized technique. Each incisor was submitted to a different retreatment protocol and supplementary cleaning method as follows: (1) Reciproc (RC, VDW) + Flatsonic (FS; Helse, Santa Rosa de Viterbo, Brazil), (2) RC + XP-endo Finisher (XPF; FKG Dentaire, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland), (3) Mtwo retreatment (MR) + FS, and (4) MR + XPF. Finally, the teeth were rescanned to establish the postoperative microcrack formation by 2 well-trained and blinded examiners. RESULTS The maximum and minimum RSS values were -120 and 510 microstrains, respectively, for all of the files. RC showed the highest RSS values during endodontic retreatment compared with MR. FS demonstrated a higher variation between the minimum and maximum RSS than XPF. No microcracks were observed in the specimens. CONCLUSIONS This preliminary study proposed an experimental model that would combine 2 methods to evaluate the effects of endodontic systems on dentin. Although strain gauges would provide data on the stresses created, the pre- and postoperative evaluation of micro-computed tomographic images would enable microcrack formation to be determined.

Abstract
Aim The study aimed at evaluating the incidence of dentinal defects after root canal retreatment with ProTaper Universal retreatment (PTUR) and XP-endo Shaper and Finisher R (XP). Materials and Methods Sixty extracted single-rooted human premolars were selected and divided into 4 groups of 15 teeth each. In the negative control group, the teeth were left unprepared. In the positive control group, the teeth were prepared with ProTaper Next and obturated with no further retreatment. In the PTUR and XP groups, the teeth were prepared and obturated followed by removal of the filling material at body temperature using PTUR and XP instruments, respectively. The roots were then sectioned at 3, 6, and 9 mm from the apex and observed under a digital microscope to detect defects. Results PTUR group showed significantly higher (p value <0.05) incidence of defects than the other groups. Comparison of no defects versus defects between groups in different areas of root canals demonstrated significant difference among the groups in the apical and cervical regions. Conclusion Within the limitations of the present study, PTUR files created significantly more dentinal defects than XP files, with most of those defects at the cervical and apical areas of the root canals.

Abstract
The study aimed to compare the extent of dentinal microcracks in the radicular dentin using hand K files and various types of rotary nickel-titanium (NiTi) file systems. Forty mandibular incisor teeth (human) were grouped for the study. The root apices were closed, and the canals were straight (<5°). The samples were divided into four groups (n = 10). Group 1-Hand K file system (SybronEndo, SA), Group 2-XP-endo Shaper (FKG Dentaire, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland), Groups 3-Neoendoflex file (Neoendo, Orikam, India), and Group 4-Hero Shaper files (Micro-Mega, Becacon, France). Sectioning was done at 3, 6, and 9 mm from the apex, perpendicular to the long axis using a diamond disc under water coolant. The cut samples were then observed through a scanning electron microscope at ×50 enlargement. The control group showed no microcracks except one sample in the coronal third, which was less significant. The difference in the amount of crack detected on comparing the different groups was significant. In the experimental groups, XP-endo Shaper group showed significantly less number of cracks than the Neoendo flex, and Hero Shaper groups. Within the limitations of this study, all the system, except hand K files, produced remarkable dentinal microcracks. Least cracks were seen in canals instrumented with XP-endo Shaper. It can also be noted that single file system causes less number of microcracks.

Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the potential occurrence of dentinal defects after the removal of a root canal filling with two different sealers using Reciproc (RC) or Reciproc Blue (RB). The mesial roots of 60 mandibular molars with a Vertucci type IV configuration were selected. The samples were initially instrumented with Reciproc (R25) and then divided into the following four experimental groups according to the endodontic sealer and retreatment instrument (n = 15): BC Sealer/Reciproc (BCRC); BC Sealer/Reciproc Blue (BCRB); AH Plus/Reciproc (AHRC); and AH Plus/Reciproc Blue (AHRB). Then, the samples were scanned under micro-CT after obturation and removal of the filling material. Two analyses were conducted. First, an evaluation was performed on all the axial images, and another analysis evaluated each millimeter of the 10 mm from the apex. Dentinal defects were observed in all the samples. All of the identified defects in the images after filling material removal were present in the corresponding images after obturation. The use of AH Plus and EndoSequence BC Sealer, and filling material removal using RC and RB instruments did not induce dentinal defects.
