Abstract
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Excellent optical properties are essential for esthetic dental materials. However, the translucency and color masking ability of zirconia fabricated with nanoparticle jetting (NPJ), a type of printed zirconia, are unknown. PURPOSE The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the translucency and color masking ability of zirconia fabricated using NPJ. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 90 specimens with thicknesses of 1.5, 1.0, and 0.5 mm were fabricated using high translucent milled zirconia (HT), low translucent milled zirconia (LT), and NPJ. CIELab values (L*, a*, and b*) of the specimens over 7 backgrounds, black, white, VitaB1, VitaA2, VitaA4, gold alloy (Au), and titanium (Ti), were obtained using a spectral radiometer. The relative translucency parameter (RTP) and color difference (∆E) of specimens over VitaB1, VitaA4, Au, and Ti were determined using VitaA2 as the control with the CIEDE2000 color difference equation. The normality of the data distribution was determined using the Shapiro-Wilk test. Differences among groups were analyzed using 2-way analysis of variance and the Student-Newman-Keuls (SNK) post hoc test (α=.05). The ∆E of specimens was analyzed according to perceptibility (∆E=0.8) and acceptability (∆E=1.8) thresholds using the 1 sample t test. The correlation between RTP and ∆E and RTP/∆E and thickness was examined using the Pearson correlation analysis. RESULTS Statistically significant differences were observed in translucency and color masking ability among HT, LT, and NPJ (P<.05). The RTP value was the lowest for zirconia fabricated with NPJ (P<.001) and highest for HT (P<.001). Monolithic zirconia fabricated with NPJ had lower ∆E values than those of HT and LT for the same thickness and background (P<.05). A positive correlation was found in RTP and ∆E (P<.001). A negative correlation was observed in RTP and thickness (P<.001) and ∆E and thickness across a constant background (P<.001). CONCLUSIONS Zirconia fabricated with NPJ was less translucent and had a greater color masking ability for discolored backgrounds than HT and LT.

Abstract
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effect of coffee thermocycling on color stability and translucency of CAD-CAM polychromatic high translucent zirconia compared with lithium disilicate glass ceramic. METHODS Sixteen rectangular plates (14 × 16 × 1.0 mm) of two ceramic materials (IPS E.max CAD (IEC), IPS E.max ZirCAD Prime [IZP]) were prepared. Each specimen was measured for color coordinates using a spectrophotometer following 30,000 cycles of coffee thermocycling. CIELAB formula was used to determine color and translucency differences (ΔE and ΔTP). The means of ΔE and ΔTP were compared using independent samples t-test and were evaluated using their respective 50%:50% perceptibility and acceptability thresholds (PT and AT). One-way analysis of variance was performed to evaluate the translucency parameter (TP) and surface roughness (Ra) of each material. RESULTS Mean ΔE values of IEC (4.69) and IZP (4.64) were higher than the AT (ΔE ≤ 2.7) with no significant difference found between the two groups (p = 0.202). Considering the TP, only IEC showed a statistically significant increase in TP value (p < 0.001). However, the mean ΔTP of IEC (3.25) remained within the range of acceptability (1.3 < ΔTP ≤ 4.4). CONCLUSIONS Within the limitations of this current study, the color stability of all materials was clinically affected by coffee thermocycling. In terms of translucency, only lithium disilicate glass ceramic was influenced by coffee thermocycling. High translucent zirconia had superior translucency stability compared to lithium disilicate glass ceramic.

Abstract
Amid chairside CAD/CAM materials, the use of lithium-based silicate glass-ceramics (LSGC) has been steadily increasing. This review aims to report on the translucency of these materials and the variables used to measure it. An electronic search was performed within the PubMed database within the period between 2 June 2011 and 11 September 2022. English-language papers investigating the translucency of IPS e.max CAD, Celtra Duo, Suprinity PC, Initial LiSi Block, Amber Mill, N!ce, and CEREC Tessera LSGC CAD/blocks were included in the search strategy. After an initial retrieval of 160 papers, the application of exclusion criteria, and the screening of abstracts and then of full texts, 33 papers were included in the study. The retrieved materials, with different degrees of translucency (LT, HT), were IPS e.max CAD (n = 33), Suprinity PC (n = 8), and Celtra Duo (n = 1). Concerning the examined colors, the most used was A2 (n = 20), followed by A1 (n = 8) and A3 (n = 2). The translucency parameter (TP) was the most used method (n = 30) with respect to the contrast ratio (CR) (n = 11) to assess translucency. Five papers measured both. Several specimens' thicknesses (0.5-4 mm) were investigated, with 1 mm (n = 23) being the most frequently analyzed. While a general tendency could be identified, conflicting results among different papers were reported.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effects of background color, ceramic type and coping thickness on masking ability (ΔE) and translucency parameter (TP) of CAD/CAM lithium disilicate glass-ceramic/monolithic zirconia and, to determine the correlations between coping thickness, TP and ΔE. METHODS A total of 120 ceramic specimens (2 mm, 1 mm and 0.5 mm thickness; n = 10) of four CAD/CAM ceramics: IPS e.max, IPS ZirCAD, Upcera Li CAD and Upcera TT CAD, were studied. Specimens were tested over nine fabricated backgrounds: A1, A2, A3.5, ND2 and ND7 shade resin-based composites, cobalt-chromium alloy (CC), medium precious alloy (MPA), black (B) and white (W). CIELab values (L*, a* and b*), color difference (ΔE) and translucency parameter (TP) were measured and calculated using a digital spectrophotometer (color i7, X-Rite, Pantone®). Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test, one-way ANOVA, three-way ANOVA, independent t-tests and Tukey post-hoc tests (p < 0.05). RESULTS 2 mm CAD/CAM ceramics showed ideal color matching (ΔE<2.6) over different backgrounds, except for CC, B and W backgrounds. Monolithic zirconia had lower ΔE values than lithium disilicate glass-ceramics. ΔE and TP values significantly reduced with the increased coping thickness (p < 0.05). Regardless of ceramic type and thickness, a strong TP-SD of ΔE correlation was observed. SIGNIFICANCE CAD/CAM ceramic restoration color was significantly affected by background color, ceramic type and coping thickness. TP is a promising predictor for appropriate ceramic selection to receive an acceptable CAD/CAM ceramic restoration aesthetic.

Abstract
Objectives The development and placement of translucent zirconia ceramics on the dental materials market is in full swing. This research aimed to investigate how aging protocols affect the microstructure, color parameters and translucency of a new-generation monolithic zirconia ceramic. Material and methods Translucent zirconia ceramics KATANA-Zirconia STML with different surface treatments (as sintered - control, glazed, polished) was tested using two aging protocols (hydrothermal degradation in autoclave at 134 °C and 2 bars for three hours, chemical degradation in four-percent acetic acid at 80 °C for 16 hours) in order to examine phase composition using X-ray diffraction analysis and ΔE, ΔL and ΔC color parameters through spectrophotometry. The translucency parameter (TP) was calculated using parameters L*, a* and b* on a black and white surface. Results Regardless of the surface treatment, aging protocols did not cause a tetragonal-to-monoclinic phase transformation, although hydrothermal degradation in the autoclave transformed the hybrid tetragonal-cubic structure of all specimens to a tetragonal one. All polished and glazed specimens during chemical degradation demonstrated a significant color change ΔE. Lightness ΔL significantly changed in polished specimens aged in the autoclave. In all specimens, ΔC underwent a change manifested through statistically insignificant yellowing. None of the aging protocols altered the translucency of specimens. Conclusions Aging, regardless of the final surface treatment, did not manifest a monoclinic phase in the specimens. A tetragonal-cubic microstructure dominates. Unlike polishing, glazing the surface of translucent zirconia ceramics contributed to minor changes in color, lightness and chromaticity. The translucency of translucent zirconia ceramics remains stable regardless of aging and surface treatment.
