Nurseped: educational technology for safety in the management of intravenous antibiotics in pediatrics

OBJECTIVE

to develop and validate the content of a serious game on the safe management of intravenous medications in pediatrics.

METHOD

methodological study for the development and content validation of an educational technology. The cases and challenges of the serious game were developed based on a literature review and validated by 11 nurses with training and experience in the area. Content validity and agreement indices were adopted to analyze agreement and internal consistency (minimum of 0.8).

RESULTS

the content is based on the main antibiotics used in the clinical management of infections in hospitalized children and patient safety. Absolute agreement was obtained in 60 of the 61 items evaluated, and the minimum obtained was 0.82 in the content validation index and 0.80 in agreement. Adjustments were suggested by experts in the response statement for a specific case and implemented to improve the quality of the technology content.

CONCLUSION

the content of the serious game Nurseped was validated by nurse experts in child health regarding clinical cases, question statements and multiple-choice answers, in addition to feedback that presents the user with an evidence-based answer after getting the challenge right or wrong.

Alteration of skin condition in newborns admitted to neonatal intensive care: a concept analysis

OBJECTIVES

to analyze the concept of alteration of skin condition in newborns admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

METHODS

this is a concept analysis operationalized by scoping review. The search was conducted in three parts: the first, in sources like Scopus and Web of Science; the second, in Google Scholar®; and the third, through a parallel list of references.

RESULTS

according to the types of skin, the most frequent alterations were erythema/redness and pressure injuries. The concept analysis was more evident in the attribute "skin lesions or alterations" than the others. The most frequent antecedents were gestational age, birth weight, and factors related to hospitalization. Among the consequences stood out infection/sepsis.

CONCLUSIONS

this study allows improving the vision of health professionals regarding alterations in skin condition of neonates and, therefore, may contribute to a safe and systematized nursing practice.

Adherence of the nursing team to patient safety actions in neonatal units

OBJECTIVES

to describe the nursing team's adherence to patient safety actions in neonatal units using a validated instrument.

METHODS

a cross-sectional study, carried out through direct observation of the nursing team and descriptive analysis of 182 records of the "Checklist for patient safety in nursing care during hospitalization in Neonatal Intensive Care Units" in a hospital in the municipality of Belo Horizonte.

RESULTS

there was evidence of adherence greater than 90.0% in the units concerning the use of the identification wristband and guidance of the companions. It was identified 79.0% of absence on the checking of wristband identification and 59.0% of the absence of an evaluation of the crib wheels' locks. Three of the 21 items included in the checklist did not show non-conformities.

CONCLUSIONS

partial adherence to patient safety actions was observed, especially regarding the target of patient identification and prevention of falls, which exposes newborns to preventable adverse events.
