Development and Validation of a Psychoeducational Video on Depression

Background Depression is an important public health issue that affects many university students worldwide. It causes a wide range of physiological impairments, resulting in high mortality and morbidity rates. Regardless of the severity of the situation, the lack of knowledge about depression prevents them from seeking help. Furthermore, many individuals mistakenly believe that supernatural powers cause mental illnesses, which leads them to seek treatment from traditional healers instead of medical professionals. Therefore, video is a suitable instrument for disseminating information about depression because it corresponds to the younger generations' preferred method of accessing information. However, there is a scarcity of research on the development of psychoeducational videos aimed at improving depression literacy among university students in Malaysia. Hence, this study was conducted to address this research gap. Methods The study was conducted from October 2022 to October 2023, following the guidelines of video production and the principles of psychoeducation. During the preproduction phase, the script was written based on medical reference books and medically reviewed websites. The script's consistency, relevance, representativeness, and clarity were validated by five subject-matter experts. Subsequently, it was translated into Malay, which is the national language of Malaysia, to create subtitles. This was followed by script breakdown, storyboard and shot list creation, location scouting, blocking, shooting schedule, preparing call sheets, and recruiting talents. The production phase included the activities of voiceover recordings and filming, followed by the post-production phase, which consisted of video editing. Nine subject matter experts and 30 end-users validated the video by assessing its functionality, usability, efficiency, audio-visual style, and setting. Results The video script scored an overall item-level content validity index (I-CVI) and scale-level content validity index based on the average method (S-CVI/Ave) value of 1 for the domains of consistency, relevancy, representativeness, and clarity. On the other hand, the video's I-CVI and S-CVI/Ave scores indicated that it met the minimum acceptable value of 0.78 (with a range of 0.78 to 1) and 0.9 (with a range of 0.92 to 0.98) in the domains of functionality, usability, efficacy, audiovisual technique, and setting. Similarly, the video's item-level face validity index (I-FVI) achieved a minimal value of 0.80 (with a range of 0.87 to 1) across all domains following validation by 30 end-users. The video's scale-level face validity index based on the average method (S-FVI/Ave) scored 0.91, 0.96, and 0.97 for functionality, usability, and consistency domains, while the audiovisual technique and setting domains scored 0.94 and 0.98, respectively. The feedback from participants included reducing the video speed to increase subtitle readability, replacing gloomy background music with a more vibrant composition and tempo, and substituting stock videos with footage depicting Asian settings. Conclusion The psychoeducational video, titled "Educating University Students About Depression: A Short Documentary," serves as a valid instrument for disseminating information pertaining to depression. The practical application of this video has the potential to improve depression literacy and mitigate the adverse consequences of depression among university students.

Construction and validation of a mobile application for health education about COVID-19

ABSTRACT Objective: To construct and validate a mobile application for health education about COVID-19. Method: Methodological study, developed in six stages, in the state of Rio de Janeiro, between June 2020 and August 2021, with 20 health professionals, using an electronic form. Validation took place through the Content Validity Index, whose indexes should be greater than or equal to 80%. Results: The application called ROBOVID was constructed and validated by expert judges on the subject, with a Content Validity Index of 100% for the domains of content and cultural adequacy, and with a variation of 90 to 100% for the domains of language, illustration, and presentation, achieving 97% on the Overall Validity Index and 98% on the “ten golden rules” for use in health education. Conclusion: The ROBOVID application proved to be a valid technological tool for health education about COVID-19 among the Brazilian population.

Construção e validação de aplicativo móvel para educação em saúde acerca da COVID-19

RESUMO Objetivo: Construir e validar um aplicativo móvel para educação em saúde acerca da COVID-19. Método: Estudo metodológico, desenvolvido em seis etapas, no estado do Rio de Janeiro, entre junho de 2020 a agosto de 2021, com 20 profissionais de saúde, utilizando um formulário eletrônico. A validação ocorreu através do Índice de Validade de Conteúdo, cujos índices deveriam ser maiores ou iguais a 80%. Resultados: O aplicativo denominado ROBOVID foi construído e validado por profissionais juízes especialistas na temática, com Índice de Validade de Conteúdo de 100% para os domínios de conteúdo e adequação cultural, e com variação de 90 a 100% para os domínios de linguagem, ilustração e apresentação, alcançando 97% de Índice de Validade Global e 98% nas “dez regras de ouro” para uso em educação em saúde. Conclusão: O aplicativo ROBOVID demostrou ser uma ferramenta tecnológica válida para educação em saúde acerca da COVID-19 entre a população brasileira.

Boas práticas com injetáveis: tecnologia digital para educação em enfermagem visando ao controle de infecções

RESUMO Objetivos: construir, validar, implementar e avaliar uma estratégia educativa para profissionais e estudantes de Enfermagem visando às boas práticas na administração de medicações injetáveis. Métodos: estudo metodológico para o desenvolvimento de um curso aberto, sem tutoria, em ambiente virtual de aprendizagem sobre boas práticas com medicações injetáveis. Resultados: dez avaliadoras validaram o material educativo que embasou o curso “Boas Práticas com Injetáveis: ações para o controle de infecção” quanto a objetivos, estrutura e relevância para o e-book e podcast. A avaliação pela população-alvo (17 sujeitos) sugere que ele é relevante e motivador, contudo o fórum pode ser a ferramenta menos atrativa, devendo-se realizar outros estudos para identificar sua efetividade enquanto ferramenta para retenção de conteúdo em cursos abertos. Conclusões: o curso aberto e sem tutoria para estudantes e profissionais de enfermagem, com material educativo validado para esse fim, pode ser utilizado para educação em enfermagem, em ambientes formais ou informais.

Correlation between fatigue and quality of life self-reported by adolescents with cerebral palsy

ABSTRACT Objectives: to investigate the correlation between fatigue and quality of life in adolescents with cerebral palsy who are susceptible to more significant fatigue and lower quality of life. Methods: cross-sectional study conducted with 101 adolescents with cerebral palsy. Instruments such as the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory and Gross Motor Function Classification System were used, and Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Mann-Whitney, and Spearman tests were applied. Results: older adolescents self-reported higher fatigue levels, and female adolescents, quadriplegic, with worse motor function, older, and not attending school had lower quality of life scores. Higher fatigue levels correlated with lower quality of life in all domains (p<0.01), especially in tiredness (general and mental) and functioning (social, academic, and psychosocial). Conclusions: fatigue correlated negatively with the quality of life of adolescents with cerebral palsy, showing that the higher the level of fatigue, the more compromised is the adolescents’ life.

Production and validation of educational technology on nursing care for syphilis prevention

OBJECTIVES

Validate script and storyboard of a video for educational intervention on nursing care for the prevention and management of syphilis.

METHODS

Methodological design study, with quantitative analysis approach. The content and appearance of the educational video script and storyboard was validated by a committee of experts on the subject and video. They were considered validated from the agreement of 78%, calculated by means of the Content Validity Index.

RESULTS

There were suggestions, which were analyzed; and, where relevant, the script and storyboard were changed. The degree of agreement among the expert judges on the subject obtained a Content Validity Index (CVI) of 100%, while, with the technical experts in video, all the questions in the educational material obtained the percentage above the recommended minimum of 78%.

CONCLUSION

The validated video is an important technological production and could be used in the context of health care.

DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF AN EDUCATIONAL VIDEO TO PREVENT FALLS IN HOSPITALIZED CHILDREN

ABSTRACT Objectives: to develop and validate an educational technology (educational video) oriented toward health professionals and addressing fall prevention in hospitalized children. Methods: methodological study carried out between December 2017 and January 2019 in five steps: identification of themes based on a literature review and the examination of the Brazilian Ministry of Health Fall Prevention Protocol; development of an educational video; validation of the material by referees specialized in children’s health, patient safety, or social communication; validation by the target audience, made up of health professionals at a pediatrics institute in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and material adjustment. A Likert-like scale was used to validate the video, with items showing agreement indexes equal to or higher than 70% considered validated. Results: the video “Fall prevention in hospitalized children” was produced and validated with an average adequacy agreement index of 86% among the referees and 99.3% among the target audience. Only one item, related to adequate size of titles and topics, was not validated by the referees and was modified based on their suggestions. Conclusion: the video was validated by the referees and the target audience and may have practical application in education and training of health professionals who work in the children’s health field.

Peripheral Venipuncture Education Strategies for Nursing Students: An Integrative Literature Review

This integrative literature review identified strategies to teach peripheral venipuncture to nursing students. The following databases were searched for primary studies: Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), PubMed, Web of Science, Education Resources Information Center (ERIC), SCOPUS, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL). The final sample was composed of 24 studies. The literature ranged from descriptive studies to controlled clinical trials and methodologic studies to construct products/instruments for teaching peripheral venipuncture. The most frequently identified teaching strategies were theoretical contents taught via theoretical lecture, e-learning courses, video lessons, and demonstration by specialists combined with practical exercises using a mannequin, human arms, and/or haptic devices. Despite the different methods used currently, the best patient outcomes were achieved when the student received the theoretical content in an educational setting before the practical training on a mannequin and/or a virtual simulator.

Construction of hypermedia for prevention of bloodstream infection

ABSTRACT Objective: To describe the process of construction and assessment of the content of a Virtual Learning Object on preventing bloodstream infections associated with infusion therapy. Method: Methodological study carried out in three stages: elaborating the technical, scientific content; assessing theoretical content; and constructing the Virtual Learning Object. Results: We produced the theoretical content of the Virtual Learning Object. Such content obtained an 85% agreement in assessment, which was adequate. The final product comprised 39 content screens, which integrate the main recommendations and contain images, hypertexts, videos, case studies, and quiz, through an exclusive platform. Final Considerations: This study made it possible to portray the method for constructing and assessing the content of a Virtual Learning Object, enabling am easy application to health professionals, aiming at guiding them to quality care.

DEVELOPMENT AND VALIDATION OF AUDIOVISUAL EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY FOR FAMILIES AND PEOPLE WITH COLOSTOMY BY CANCER

ABSTRACT Objective: produce and validate an educational technology in the form of video for people and families who experience colostomy and cancer. Method: educational technology development study conducted in two phases: production and validation of audiovisual technology, which includes the stages of construction and validation of the script, video production and audio-visual validation. Twelve people participated in the validation, being seven expert judges and two families (five people). The appearance and content were validated by Content Validity Index greater than or equal to 0.70% (IVC ≥0.7) and interview. Results: the script content has been validated by the expert judges, with a Global Content Validity Index equal to 0.99 and by the target audience with a Global Content Validity Index of 1. The validation of audio-visual content obtained a Global Content Validity Index equal to 0.99. Conclusion: the validated audiovisual educational technology represents a resource enhancement for the educational practices of nursing in the care of people with stoma and their families.

Revalidation of game for teaching blood pressure auscultatory measurement: a pilot study

ABSTRACT Objective: To adapt a pre-existing educational game, making it specific to the teaching of blood pressure auscultatory measurement, and to apply this game in a pilot study. Method: The original game cards were altered by the authors and submitted to content validation by six experts in the field. After redesigns, the game was applied to 30 subjects, who answered a questionnaire (pre-test and post-test) on auscultatory measurement. Data were analyzed descriptively and by the paired Student's t-test and paired Wilcoxon test. Results: Throughout the content validation process, 17 of the 28 original cards were modified. Of these 17 cards, 13 obtained 80% agreement, and the rest were modified according to the judges' suggestions. The obtained grades significantly increased between pre- and the post-test. Conclusion: It was concluded that the reformulated game presented satisfactory evidence of content validity. Its use as a teaching-learning method was effective for this sample.
