Dislipidemia familiar e fatores associados a alterações no perfil lipídico em crianças

[Factors associated with leisure-time physical activity: analysis of Brazilians with chronic diseases]

The scope of this study was to analyze the prevalence and the factors associated with sufficient leisure-time physical activity (LTPA) among Brazilians diagnosed with hypertension, diabetes and/or hypercholesterolemia. It involved a representative, cross-sectional population-based study for the entire Brazilian territory. Adults aged 20 years and over were interviewed. Prevalences were estimated and, by means of logistic regression, the crude and adjusted odds ratios (OR) of the outcome were calculated in accordance with each of the exploratory variables. The prevalence of sufficient LTPA was 15.9%, 15.3% and 21.4% among people with hypertension (n=12,228), diabetes (n=3,577) and hypercholesterolemia (n=7,124), respectively. These values were lower than those observed among adults who did not report one of the three diseases. Adjusted analysis showed that individuals with positive self-perception of health and with more schooling, who reported a public space near their homes for physical activity, the existence in the city of public programs that encourage physical activity and the recommendation of health professionals to practice LTPA, were associated with a greater chance of being sufficiently active.

Overview of Dyslipidemia in Childhood and Adolescence: Why Does It Matter and What Do We Do About It?

Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in adults in the United States. Cardiovascular health as a child and adolescent is important in setting the path for a heart-healthy life in adulthood. One major impact on cardiovascular health that can have its roots in childhood is dyslipidemia. Universal screening for all children is a newer concept that has emerged over the last decade; previously children and adolescents were screened based only on risk factors. This review addresses who is at risk for dyslipidemia, how and when to screen children and adolescents, why early identification is important, and how to manage dyslipidemia when it is diagnosed. There are many interventions that can be started in childhood to help decrease cardiovascular risk factors in adults, thus decreasing the morbidity and mortality from heart disease in the future. Ciência & Saúde Coletiva - 25 years: contributions to pregnancy, delivery, and childhood studies

We reviewed the scientific production on maternal health and the health of children under ten years of age, published in Journal Ciência & Saúde Coletiva during the last 25 years, focusing on quantitative studies. The authors' characteristics, populations under study, thematic areas, and methodology are described. A total of 170 publications were identified and grouped into 12 major themes. Pregnancy, delivery, and puerperium were the subject of 47 studies, followed by child anthropometric assessments (29), breastfeeding (24), and mortality (13). The selected publications represented 3.5% of the total original papers published by the Journal since its creation in 1996 and about 5% of the publications in the 2015-2020 period. The primary data sources were health service records, information systems, and population surveys. The cross-sectional design was used in 113 of the 170 articles, and 70% covered only one municipality. The Southeast and Northeast Regions of Brazil were the target of most studies, and the North Region was the least represented. The publications reflect the complexity of maternal and child health themes, with a particular focus on the importance of the Unified Health System and showing how open access data can contribute to public health research.

Association Between Serum Lipid Levels in Greek Children with Dyslipidemia and Mediterranean Diet Adherence, Dietary Habits, Lifestyle and Family Socioeconomic Factors

Background: Childhood dyslipidemia is an important risk factor for developing cardiovascular disease in adulthood. Our study aimed to investigate a possible correlation between nutritional, lifestyle, behavioral and socioeconomic factors and serum lipid levels in children with dyslipidemia. Methods: In this retrospective, observational study, in 31 children with dyslipidemia, aged 3–14 years, dietary habits, physical activity, hours watching television or playing video games, family’s socioeconomic status, weight of children and parents, and duration of breastfeeding were recorded. The children’s adherence to the Mediterranean diet was also evaluated by KidMed index. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS.22. Results: Children with increased physical activity had lower triglyceride levels, compared to those with lower physical activity (p = 0.001). Children who consumed only one meal per day, had increased levels of total cholesterol (p = 0.01), LDL-cholesterol (p = 0.01), ApoB (p = 0.001) and lipoprotein (a) (p = 0.018), compared to those who consumed more than 3 meals per day (p < 0.05). Children who were breastfed less than 6 months had significantly increased LDL-C levels (p = 0.022), compared to children who were breastfed more than 6 months. All other parameters investigated did not differ significantly. Conclusions: This study showed association between lipid profile of children with dyslipidemia and specific nutritional and socioeconomic factors, such as increased physical activity, increased meals consumption during the day, and exclusive breastfeeding for more than 6 months. Nevertheless, further research is needed, in order to confirm these findings.
