Abstract
PURPOSE Evaluate which factors compromise patients' quality of life who have undergone orthognathic surgery in the pre and postoperative period of 2 years. STUDY DESIGN In this longitudinal prospective study, 46 adult patients undergoing orthognathic surgery were evaluated. The primary outcome variable was quality of life, assessed using the overall score of the orthognathic quality of life questionnaire (OQLQ) in the pre and 2-year postoperative periods. The predictor variables were axis I (temporomandibular dysfunction) and axis II (psychosocial) RDC/TMD diagnoses, assessed preoperatively and 2 years postoperatively; profile, asymmetry, and open bite preoperatively; and orthodontic treatment active 2 years postoperatively. The covariables were age and sex. The OQLQ score was compared preoperatively and postoperatively using the Wilcoxon test and with the other variables using the Mann-Whitney and Kruskall-Wallis tests. RESULTS Preoperatively, higher OQLQ scores were associated with myofascial pain (P = .012) and severe depression (P = .030). Two years after surgery, there was an improvement in overall OQLQ (P < .001), myofascial pain (P = .012) and chronic pain (P = .001). However, higher OQLQ scores were associated with individuals who had myofascial pain (P = .012), active orthodontic treatment (P = .007), and other nonspecific physical symptoms including pain (NSPSIP) (P = .049). CONCLUSION Quality of life was affected preoperatively by myofascial pain and depression, and although it improved significantly 2 years after surgery, it continued to be affected by myofascial pain, NSPSIP, and active orthodontic treatment.

Abstract
Objective This study aimed to determine the impact of dentofacial deformity on an individual's chances of being hired for a hypothetical job involving customer service. Materials and methods Face photographs (frontal and lateral) of 15 patients with moderate to severe dentofacial deformity, taken before and after orthodontic-surgical correction, were selected and randomized between two different questionnaires. In addition, five patients without dentofacial deformity were used as controls in both questionnaires. These questionnaires were taken by adults responsible for hiring personnel to work in commerce and business activities, graduates or postgraduates in business administration, with experience in recruiting and hiring personnel. The evaluation took place using a Likert scale with values ranging from 0 to 10 (in which 0 corresponded to complete disagreement and 10 to complete agreement), considering the following variables in a first impression judgment: honesty, intelligence, productivity at work, and hiring chance. Data were tabulated and statistical analysis was performed using a linear regression model for the explanatory variables that showed statistical significance in the analysis of variance (ANOVA). Effect size through Cohen's d has been corrected for all comparisons performed. Results All re-examined domains demonstrated statistical differences even when included in a multivariate model (p < 0.05), with lower mean values for those requiring pre-treatment (presenting deformity), although the effect size was small for all comparisons. Conclusion Dentofacial deformity influenced the hiring chance, although not appearing to be a preponderant factor for hiring, acting as a tiebreaker among the candidates adopted.

Abstract
Individuals seeking orthodontic treatment combined with orthognathic surgery (OS) have a high prevalence of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs), but the relationship between TMD diagnoses and dentofacial deformities (DFDs) is still controversial. Therefore, this cross-sectional study with a comparison group aimed to analyze the association between dentofacial deformities and TMDs. METHODOLOGY Eighty patients undergoing OS were consecutively selected from the stomatology department of the Federal University of Paraná between July 2021 and July 2022. Forty patients who would undergo OS composed the group of participants with DFD, and forty who received other types of attention and did not present changes in the dental bone bases formed the group without DFDs (DFDs and no DFDs groups). The groups were matched for sex, age, and self-reported ethnicity. The diagnostic criteria for TMDs (DC/TMDs) were used to diagnose TMD based on the Axis I criteria. The psychosocial aspects, oral behaviors in wakefulness, and sleep bruxism were evaluated through the Axis II criteria. The data were analyzed with a 5% significance level. RESULTS The presence of DFDs was significantly associated with arthralgia (p = 0.01). The other types of TMDs were not associated with DFDs. Comorbidities, habits, and psychosocial variables were not associated with DFDs at a level of 0.05. (p > 0.05). In analyzing the participants with arthralgia, the ones with this condition presented higher frequencies of sleep bruxism (p = 0.046). CONCLUSIONS Participants with DFDs presented a significantly higher frequency of arthralgia when compared to no DFDs ones. Sleep bruxism was associated with the occurrence of joint TMDs in these participants.

Abstract
A close relationship between dentofacial deformities (DFD) and temporomandibular disorders (TMD) has been suggested, which might impact the quality of life (QoL) and psychological aspects. We evaluated the presence of TMD in DFD patients, correlating these findings with QoL and salivary levels of biochemical markers of pain and psychological disorders. The study enrolled 51 patients, which were distributed into three groups: (i) orthodontic, (ii) TMD, and (iii) DFD. TMD diagnosis was conducted according to Axis I and II of the Diagnostic Criteria for Temporomandibular Disorders (DC/TMD). QoL was evaluated by the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14). The salivary levels of interleukin-1β (IL-1β) were determined by ELISA, while glutamate and serotonin amounts were evaluated by mass spectroscopy. DFD individuals had a positive diagnosis for TMD, as indicated by the Axis I (DC/TMD). They exhibited poorer outcomes regarding pain, functional, and psychological dimensions, according to the Axis II DC-TMD. The QoL evaluation demonstrated poorer outcomes for DFD individuals, accompanied by greater IL-1β salivary contents. Notably, glutamate levels had a positive correlation with behavioral parameters in Axis II DC-TMD, with a mild relevance for serotonin. DFD patients display chronic myofascial pain featuring TMD, with altered psychological symptoms and poor QoL, encompassing changes in pain mediators. Data bring new evidence about the relevance of TMD in DFD patients, which likely impacts the QoL and the salivary levels of biochemical markers of functional, painful, and psychological disorders.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the prevalence of signs and symptoms related to temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and orofacial pain in patients with indication for orthognathic surgery. METHODS The search was carried out in seven electronic databases and gray literature. Studies that evaluated the frequency of signs and symptoms related to TMD and orofacial pain were included. The risk of bias was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Critical Appraisal tool. A meta-analysis of proportions with a random effect model was performed and the GRADE tool judged the certainty of evidence. RESULTS After searching the databases, 1859 references were retrieved, 18 of which were selected for synthesis. The prevalence of individuals with at least one TMD symptom was 51% [CI95% = 44-58%], and 44% of the subjects had temporomandibular joint click/crepitus [CI95% = 37-52%]. Additionally, 28% exhibited symptoms related to muscle disorders [CI95% = 22-35%], 34% had disc displacement with or without reduction [CI95% = 25-44%], and 24% had inflammatory joint disorders [CI95% = 13-36%]. The prevalence of headache was 26% [CI95% = 8-51%]. The certainty of evidence was considered very low. CONCLUSION Approximately 1 in 2 patients with dentofacial deformity presents some sign and symptom related to TMD. Myofascial pain and headache may be present in approximately a quarter of patients with dentofacial deformity. CLINICAL RELEVANCE A multidisciplinary treatment is necessary for these patients, involving a professional with expertise in the management of TMD.
