Introdução: A Cefaleia do Tipo Tensional (CTT) é a mais frequente dentro do grupo das cefaleias primárias, sendo responsável por gerar um alto impacto socioeconômico para a sociedade, além de prejudicar as relações sociais, profissionais e familiares. Objetivos: Analisar os efeitos de um protocolo de intervenção fisioterapêutica, incluindo técnicas de terapia manual, alongamentos e fortalecimento muscular sobre a funcionalidade, dor e incapacidade em pacientes com CTT. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo de caráter intervencionista, exploratório-descritivo com abordagem quantitativa, realizado com cinco indivíduos com quadro sintomático de CTT. A dor foi avaliada através da Escala Analógica Visual (EVA); a incapacidade pelo Neck Disability Index (NDI) e o impacto da cefaléia em atividades de vida diária (AVD) mediante aplicação do Headache Impact Test (HIT-6) antes e após intervenção. Foram realizadas seis sessões de fisioterapia, uma vez por semana, durante seis semanas. Resultados: Houve redução no padrão de dor pós-intervenção (4,2 ± 2,28 x 0,2 ± 0,45; p=0,0189). No quesito incapacidade, houve diferença entre os períodos pré e pós-intervenção (11,4 ± 1,54 x 6,6 ± 2,30; p=0,0220). Além disso, após a intervenção, houve redução nos níveis do HIT-6 quando comparado ao período pré-intervenção (51 ± 7,45 x 59,6 ± 3,91; p=0,0381). Conclusão: O protocolo de intervenção fisioterapêutica mostrou-se eficaz na redução do padrão de dor, incapacidade e impacto da cefaleia nas AVD de pacientes com CTT.

Dichotomy of music in the approach of tension-type headache

IntroductionHeadache is one of the most frequent diseases of the nervous system. Headache is considered a public health problem, due to its high prevalence - since more than 90% of the population will present this clinical condition throughout their lives according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and for its negative impact on quality of life. In such a subtype of headache, music is seen as an antithesis either for its relief action or not, with findings in both extremes.ObjectiveThe objective of this paper is to identify the real effects of routine listening to music in patients with tension-type headache, based on reports in the current literature. The present study consists of an integrative literature review on the effects of routine listening to music in patients with tension-type headache.MethodologyAfter careful reading of the publications, six articles were not used due to the exclusion criteria. Thus, 14 articles were selected for the final analysis and construction of the bibliographic review on the topic.ResultsAfter the analysis, in 50% of the studies, the intensity of the headache increased with listening to music, and in 50% of the studies the intensity of the headache with listening to music decreased.ConclusionIt can be concluded that music is related in an ambivalent way to cases of headache arising from several etiologies. When administered at high frequencies, it can be a triggering factor, presenting a higher incidence in those who listen to it in this way, if compared to those who listen to it in a less intense way. But when used systematically, with frequency and delimited periods - such as the music therapy mechanism - music reveals itself as a beneficial element to reduce the frequency and intensity of headache caused by different diseases.

Comparative study between manual therapy and TENS Burst in patients with tension-type cephalalgia

Introduction Cephalgia or cephalalgia is one of the most common symptoms in the general population. Objective To compare the efficacy of physical therapy modalities, through manual therapy and the effect of Transcutaneous Nerve Stimulation (TENS) for tension-type cephalalgia. Materials and methods The study was compounded by 60 subjects, but only 40 of them completed it, due to the exclusion criteria. These were divided into control group and intervention group. The control group received treatment — manual therapy. The intervention group received TENS Burst. Patients underwent ten sessions of treatment, made at every two days on a week, lasting 30 minutes each session. Results The characteristics related to lifestyle, postural issues and range of motion are responsible for the main causes of tension-type cephalalgia. Discussion treatments showed effective results in all cases in relation to pain intensity, but the use of manual therapy techniques give the patient a better quality of life compared to the use of TENS. Final considerations The treatment of this condition deserves analysis and studies; however, there are only a few studying physical therapy techniques, especially regarding to the use of TENS.

Ocorrência e prejuízos da cefaleia em estudantes universitárias de enfermagem

O estudo teve como objetivos verificar a ocorrência de cefaleia como a principal dor e caracterizar essa experiência e o prejuízo causado por ela nas atividades cotidianas de estudantes universitárias de enfermagem. Trata-se de um estudo transversal, realizado na Faculdade de Enfermagem da Universidade Federal de Goiás, Goiânia, GO, Brasil, de maio a junho de 2008, com 203 estudantes, (idade média de 21 anos; d.p.=1,8), 48,5% da classe econômica A. A cefaleia foi a principal dor para 34,5% das universitárias; de forte intensidade; descrita como latejante (74,3%), pontada (62,9%) e enjoada (55,7%); com episódios à tarde (52,9%), com duração de algumas horas do dia (51,4%). Os fatores relacionados ao início da dor foram: os estudos (17,1%) e o estresse (11,4 %) e as atividades mais prejudicadas: a capacidade de concentração (84,3%) e o humor (84,3%) (p<0,05). A cefaleia é menos frequente nesta população comparada a estudos realizados em outros países e prejudica as atividades cotidianas das universitárias.
