Abstract
BACKGROUND Quality of life (QoL) is a measure to evaluate kidney transplant (KT) results. AIM To describe the QoL profile in a larger sample of Brazilian patients who underwent KT according to age, sex, and access to KT. METHODS We conducted a secondary data analysis of the ADHERE BRAZIL multicenter cross-sectional study including 1105 patients from 20 centers, considering KT access region and transplant activity. QoL was assessed by the WHOQOL-BREF. Data was compared using Generalized Estimating Equations. RESULTS Overall, 58.5 % of the patients were men, mean age of 47.6 ± 12.6 years. The general QoL score was 81 ± 15.1, 58.6 ± 11.6 for physical, 65.5 ± 11.4 for psychological, 68.3 ± 17.1 for social relationships, and 64.2 ± 13.3 for environmental domain. Higher QoL scores were observed in men compared to women in three WHOQOL-BREF domains: psychological (OR:2.62; CI, 1.29 ̶ 3.95, p < 0.0001), social relationships (OR:3.21; CI, 1.2 ̶ 5.23, p = 0.002) and environmental (OR:3.79; CI:2.23 ̶ 5.35, p < 0.0001). Younger patients (18-44 years) had higher scores in the psychological (OR:-2.69; CI, -4.13 ̶ -1.25; p < 0.001; OR:-3.52; CI, -5.39 ̶ -1.66; p < 0.001) and social (OR:-3.46; CI, -5.64 ̶ -1.27; p = 0.002; OR:-7.17; CI, -10 ̶ -4.35; p < 0.0001) domains than older ones (45-59 and > 60 years, respectively). Patients from higher KT access region had higher scores in environmental domain (OR:3.53; CI, 0.28 ̶ 6.78; p = 0.033). CONCLUSIONS Featuring the results of KT under patient view, the physical and social relationships domains were the most and least affected, respectively. Lower QoL subgroups (females and age > 45 years) should be targeted in future multi-professional interventions.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Poor quality of life has been reported after renal transplantation.
So, we aimed to identify the quality of life and its demographic and clinical correlates among Egyptian renal transplant recipients.
A cross-sectional observational study of 230 post-renal transplantation recipients (PRTRs) who were recruited from Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital and Nasser Institute nephrology clinics. All cases were subjected to a designed questionnaire for PRTRs, the semi-structured questionnaire for renal transplant recipients and the Arabic version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life Questionnaire (WHOQOL-100).
Results
All the PRTRs had unsatisfactory social quality of life (QoL) while 97.8% had unsatisfactory overall QoL; moreover, 92.6% were not satisfied as regards environmental and independence QoL. Psychological dissatisfaction was met in 75.7% of all subjects, whereas the least dissatisfaction rate was the spiritual QoL (15.2%). Younger age groups were the most who complained of unsatisfactory quality of life in all domains except the spiritual QoL. All domains of QoL were found not statistically associated with gender, marital status, or social class. Subjects who received higher education had better psychological and independence QoL. The overall QoL and physical QoL were found to be correlated only with age. The psychological and independence QoL were positively correlated with age, sex, educational level, and occupation while the environmental QL was found to be positively correlated with occupation.
Conclusion
The prevalence of unsatisfactory quality of life is quite high among PRTRs. Our findings pointed to the need of recognizing quality of life among renal transplant recipients, and we suggest that mental health professionals should be included in the multidisciplinary team.

Abstract
Renal transplantation is the best long-term treatment option compared with maintenance dialysis in patients with chronic kidney disease. This treatment should be combined with immunosuppressive drugs to obtain positive effects; however, the adverse effects of these medications in the respiratory and peripheral muscle strength, functional capacity, and quality of life of patients remain unknown. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is to evaluate the respiratory and peripheral muscle strength, functional capacity, and quality of life of patients undergoing renal transplantation in the preoperative period and during the first 6 months of postoperative period. METHODS The respiratory and peripheral muscle strength, quality of life, and functional capacity of 40 patients were evaluated from the pretransplant period to 6 months post-renal transplantation. RESULTS Compared with the preoperative period, the patients experienced improvement of the respiratory and peripheral strength 6 months after transplant (maximal inspiratory pressure 44% and maximal expiratory pressure 28.96%, handgrip 13.81%, and lower limbs 26.95%) and also in the quality of life. CONCLUSION We conclude that 6 months after transplant, patients showed improvement in respiratory and peripheral muscle strength and quality of life, but even with the improvement, patients presented an unsatisfactory quality of life and muscle strength, regardless of immunosuppressive therapy.

Abstract

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Chronic kidney disease can lead to dysfunction of the respiratory, cardiac, and musculoskeletal systems, altering the body's metabolism. Renal transplantation and hospital physiotherapy, through specific protocols, can improve these dysfunctions. OBJECTIVES This study evaluates the impact of a hospital physiotherapeutic protocol in quality of life (QoL), respiratory muscle strength, peak expiratory flow, and 6-minute walk test (6MWT) in the preoperative, first, and fifth days after renal transplantation. METHODS We evaluated 39 patients who received a renal transplant at Clinics Hospital of University of Campinas for respiratory muscle strength, expiratory peak flow, and functional capacity by the 6MWT. The short form-36 quality of life questionnaire was applied to 12 patients. RESULTS We observed a significant reduction in respiratory muscle strength and peak expiratory flow in the first postoperative day. On postoperative day 5, there was improvement in respiratory muscle strength and expiratory peak flow. However, aerobic capacity measured by 6MWT remained below predicted. Analysis of QoL showed an improvement in almost all analyzed domains after transplantation. CONCLUSION A specific physiotherapeutic protocol applied early after transplantation provided recovery of respiratory muscle strength and QoL. However, longer training is necessary to obtain adequate aerobic rehabilitation.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The beneficial influence of kidney (KTx) or simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation (SPK) on quality of life (QOL) in patients with end-stage kidney disease caused by type 1 diabetes mellitus was confirmed in many studies. The aim of this study was to identify factors that influence QOL of patients in long-term follow-up after SPK or KTx. METHODS Twenty-seven SPK and 26 KTx patients with good function of transplanted organs at least 1 year after transplantation were enrolled into the analysis. To estimate QOL of the recipients the Kidney Disease and Quality of Life Short Form was applied. RESULTS Within the whole analyzed group, the necessity of exogenous insulin administration correlated (P < .05) with symptom/problem list (γ = -0.35), effects of kidney disease (-0.38), cognitive function (-0.47), sleep (-0.42), overall health (-0.47), physical functioning (-0.61), role-physical (-0.32), pain (-0.50), general health (-0.32), emotional well-being (-0.31), role-emotional (-0.36), social function (-0.33), energy/fatigue (-0.44), and the SF-12 physical composite (-0.44). History of cardiovascular episode correlated (P < .05) with symptom/problem list (γ = -0.59), effects of kidney disease (-0.46), burden of kidney disease (-0.56), sleep (-0.54), social support (-0.51), physical functioning (-0.55), role-physical (-0.70), pain (-0.60), general health (-0.57), emotional well-being (-0.45), role-emotional (-0.95), social function (-0.58), energy/fatigue (-0.59), SF-12 physical composite (-0.45), and SF-12 mental composite (-0.83). CONCLUSIONS Exogenous insulin administration and history of cardiovascular episode are the most important factors influencing QOL in patients after SPK or KTx, particularly worsening its physical components.

Abstract
