[Aging and the elderly in the undergraduate nursing courses in Brazil: from the current situation to a proposal for the content of the program]

COMPETENCIES IN THE NURSE EDUCATION PROCESS TO CARE FOR THE AGING: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to synthesize the knowledge produced about nursing students' education process in national databases, considering the curricular proposal of competency-based guidance related to care for the aging. An integrative review was performed in LILACS and BDENF bases with the following descriptors: "geriatric nursing", "gerontological nursing" and "education." Content analysis was applied in the articles. Subsequently, word clouds were built. In the seventeen articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the main topics discussed were elderly, aging, old age, gerontology and geriatrics, geriatric nursing, care for the elderly and academic education. The lack of studies that address the competencies to care for the aging in a more structured way in undergraduate nursing courses was, therefore, observes through this research. Articles generally address the curricula structures guided by the National Curriculum Guidelines for Nursing Courses, with the focus on knowledge transmission, usually following the traditional methodology.

[Gerontological nursing, the production of knowledge in the profession (1970-1996)]

This study aims to describe the construction of knowledge as a component of professional power in gerontological nursing in Brazil between 1970 and 1996. It is a descriptive study with qualitative socio-historical approach that used oral history and was developed with 14 nurses, who are pioneers in the area. The categories found are: 1. The origin of gerontological nursing studies; 2. The inclusion of gerontology in the professional education; 3. The relevance of knowledge to the specialty. Historical understanding allowed to learn the efforts engaged for the development of scientific production in the area, by detailing the creation of research groups and the difficulties found in the professional education. The connection between knowledge and professional power is a unanimous discourse among the pioneer nurses, confirmed in the efforts made by them for the development of expertise in the area.

[Investigating the production of the knowledge on the long-lived elderly person]

This paper is a bibliographic review, with quantitative approach, that aimed to investigate the production of the knowledge on the long-lived elderly person, in the SCIELO and LILACS data bases. Eighty eight scientific papers were analyzed, from which 69,3% were produced in Brazil, concentrated in the Southeastern area (67,2%), and with prevalence of the qualitative approach (77,3%). As for the knowledge area, all the researches are part of the great area of Health Sciences, with prevalence of Medicine (76,1%). Nursing contributed with 4,5% of the productions. The more studied objects (72,7%) were clinical cases or report of experiences. One concluded that the scientific production on long-lived elderly person is still small and irrelevant. In this optics, it is essential to increase and qualify the productions and the knowledge fields that address this thematic universe.

Ensino sobre idoso e gerontologia: visão do discente de enfermagem no Estado de Minas Gerais

O objetivo deste estudo foi descrever os conceitos de idoso e de gerontologia e a contribuição do ensino da gerontologia para a vida profissional, na perspectiva dos discentes de enfermagem das instituições públicas do Estado de Minas Gerais. Os dados foram coletados através de entrevista semi-estruturada. Submeteu-se o conteúdo das questões à análise temática e as variáveis quantitativas foram descritas através da freqüência simples. A amostra foi composta por 55 discentes, dos quais 73% estavam na faixa etária entre 20 e 25 anos e 65,5% cursavam o oitavo período. Após a análise dos dados, emergiram as seguintes categorias temáticas: conceito de idoso, representação social do idoso, conceito de gerontologia, ensino enquanto possibilidade de mudança. Através da perspectiva do discente de enfermagem, pode-se inferir que o ensino da gerontologia nos cursos de graduação é primordial para estimular a formação de recursos humanos especializados na área.

[Teaching of gerontogeriatric nursing and complexity]

The present study had the objectives of identifying the characteristics of gerontogeriatric nursing and of reflecting on this teaching, based on identified characteristics, in the light of Complexity. A qualitative research, its data sources were nine proceedings volumes of Brazilian Nursing congresses and seven Brazilian nursing publications of the 1991-2000 period. The main body of this article was comprised of 16 scientific articles; QRSNUD* IST4 was used for analysis. Results showed that this teaching does take place, and it is carried out through: mandatory disciplines in the curriculum; practical activities; activities during curricular training; extra-curricular activities; participation on specific or general Nursing events in which studies are presented; other activities. To use the principles of Complexity is tantamount to perceiving educative teaching as trying to convey a culture that will enable future workers to understand the human condition and to think in a contextualized, open, globalized, ethical way.

Concepções dos alunos de graduação em enfermagem sobre o envelhecimento

Este estudo teve como objetivo identificar as concepções do aluno de graduação em enfermagem sobre o envelhecimento. Pesquisa qualitativa foi realizada na Universidade Cidade de São Paulo, com 49 alunos que escreveram uma dissertação com o tema "O que é ser velho?". Foi realizada análise de conteúdo, nas quais foram identificadas três unidades temáticas: Representações do ser velho, Como percebe o velho na sociedade e família e Necessidade de mudança de opinião pública. Os resultados mostraram que o aluno traz em sua concepção muitas imagens negativas do envelhecimento e evidencia a necessidade de mudanças na sociedade e na família.

Formação de recursos humanos na área da saúde do idoso

O texto aborda as questões vinculadas à formação de recursos humanos especializados e informais na área da saúde do idoso, com base na Política Nacional de Saúde do Idoso. Aponta para as dificuldades na formação desses recursos e as recomendações da Segunda Assembléia Mundial sobre o Envelhecimento.
