Efeito do consumo de óleo de linhaça e de vitamina E no desempenho e nas características de carcaças de frangos de corte

Effects of dietary sacha inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.) oil and medicinal plant powder supplementation on growth performance, carcass traits, and breast meat quality of colored broiler chickens raised in Vietnam

The present study aimed to investigate the effects of replacing dietary soybean oil (SBO) with sacha inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.) oil (SIO) supplemented or not with medicinal plant powder (MP, 60% cinnamon twig, and 40% star anise fruits) on broiler performance, carcass traits, and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (n-3 PUFA) content of breast meat. A total of 288 Ho × Luong Phuong broiler chickens (age and average body weight: 6 weeks old and 877 ± 13.4 g) were equally divided into three groups (6 replicates of 16 birds each), balanced by BW and sex. Each group was randomly allocated to one of three dietary treatments: a 2% SBO diet (CON), a 2% SIO diet (SI), and a diet supplemented with 2% SIO and 1% MP (SIM). The experiment lasted for 70 days. Broiler performance, carcass traits, and technological meat quality were not affected by the diets (P > 0.05). However, colored broiler chickens fed the SIM diet had increased empty gizzard percentage (P < 0.05) compared to those fed the CON diet. Especially, the n-3 PUFA content of breast meat from broiler chickens fed diets containing SIO was higher than those of birds fed CON diet (P < 0.01). A significant decrease in cholesterol content was observed (P < 0.01) in broilers fed SIM diet compared to those fed CON diet. In conclusion, replacing 2% SBO with 2% SIO and 1% MP supplementation in broiler diets increased n-3 PUFA content and decreased cholesterol content in breast meat, without negative effects on bird performance, carcass characteristics, and meat quality. Therefore, a combination of SIO and MP can be used as an effective strategy to ameliorate the meat quality of finishing broiler chickens by enhancing n-3 PUFA content and reducing the cholesterol content of breast meat.

Utilization of increasing levels of cassava root meal in the diet of broiler

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of using increasing levels of cassava root meal in the diet of broilers, estimated by the performance and yield of carcasses, cuts, and viscera over, in the period 10 to 42 days of life. A completely randomized design was carried out, with four treatments and four repetitions. The experimental unit consisted of 16 male and female Cobb 500 chickens (a total of 256 birds) that were 10 to 42 days old. The treatments consisted of four diets with 0%, 7.5%, 15%, and 22.5% of cassava root meal (CRM) in three feeding programs. At 42 days old, four birds per unit were slaughtered and the carcass yield, main cuts, and edible viscera were evaluated. The inclusion of levels of 15% and 22.5% of CRM in the diet of broiler had a negative influence on weight gain, food consumption, and feed conversion in the initial period and in the overall growth of the birds. Carcass yield, cuts, and viscera were not influenced by the diet. Based on the results, it is recommended that a maximum of 7.5% of the cassava root bran may be used in the diet of broilers of the Cobb 500 strain, over 10 to 42 days, without compromising the zootechnical performance of the birds or the yield of edible carcasses, cuts, and viscera.

Supplementing flaxseed oil for long periods improved carcass quality and breast fatty acid profile in Japanese quail

The efficient time for supplementing flaxseed oil to meat-type quail to produce n-3 fatty acid fortified meat has not been determined. This study was conducted to find out the effects of different periods of flaxseed oil supplementation in the Japanese quail diet on the subsequent growth performance, carcass characteristics, fatty acids profile of breast, and functional properties of the Japanese quail meat. Totally, 720 one-day-old Japanese quail were studied in a 35-day experiment using a completely randomized design. Substituting sunflower oil with flaxseed oil had no significant effect on weight gain and feed intake in Japanese quails. Supplementing flaxseed oil for the whole 35-day growth period significantly reduced abdominal fat proportion. Flaxseed oil addition to the quail diet just a week before slaughter resulted in a 4.97-fold increase in the n-3 fatty acid content of the breast muscle. Feeding flaxseed oil decreased the activity of delta-9-desaturase in quail's breast compared to sunflower oil. The greatest thrombogenic index observed in the breast meat from control while consumption of flaxseed oil significantly decreased the thrombogenic index. Supplementing flaxseed oil to quail's diet for 21 and 35 days before slaughter significantly increased breast malondialdehyde content. Feeding flaxseed oil for long periods had no significant impact on the breast meat pH while water holding capacity was decreased. The breast lightness was increased when the flaxseed oil was fed for longer periods. Generally, feeding flaxseed oil in the last week of the growth period improved the feed conversion ratio and the fatty acid profile of quail breast meat with the minimum deterioration effects on meat quality characteristics.

EFEITO DA SEXAGEM E LINHAGENS SOBRE O DESEMPENHO E RENDIMENTO DE CARCAÇA DE FRANGOS DE CORTE

Resumo Realizou-se este trabalho com o objetivo de avaliar o desempenho produtivo e o rendimento de carcaça de diferentes linhagens e sexagens de frangos de corte. Foram avaliadas 576 aves das linhagens Cobb, Ross e Hubbard, dispostas nas sexagem macho, fêmea ou misto, abatidas aos 45 dias de idade. Utilizou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado (DIC), num bifatorial 3 x 3 (linhagens x sexagem), com quatro repetições e 16 aves em cada tratamento. O peso vivo, ganho de peso, consumo de ração e conversão alimentar apresentaram diferenças significativas no decorrer das fases avaliadas, porém, mostraram-se semelhantes ao final do período avaliado. O desempenho dos machos apresentou superioridade em comparação com as fêmeas e os mistos. No rendimento de carcaça, não foi possível observar diferenças significativas entre as linhagens e sexagens das aves; no entanto, em alguns cortes nobres a linhagens Cobb apresentou melhores resultados.

Relação vitamina E: vitamina C sobre a qualidade da carne de frangos submetidos ao estresse pré-abate

Determinou-se a melhor relação vitamina E:vitamina C em dietas para frangos de corte, visando ao melhor desempenho produtivo e à melhor qualidade da carne das aves submetidas ao estresse pré-abate. Utilizaram-se 800 pintos de corte, machos, distribuídos em delineamento inteiramente ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 2x4, com dois níveis de suplementação de vitamina E - 0 e 250mg/kg - e quatro de vitamina C - 0, 150, 300 e 450mg/kg. Aos 42 dias de idade, 12 horas ante mortem, amostras de aves de cada tratamento foram submetidas ao estresse por calor e, em seguida, pelo transporte. Foram avaliadas características de desempenho - peso vivo, consumo de ração e conversão alimentar - , bem como rendimento de carcaça e qualidade da carne de peito e coxas - perda de água, cor e pH. Os níveis de vitaminas avaliadas não influenciaram nas características de desempenho avaliadas. Houve menor rendimento de peito (34,2 vs. 34,9%) e maior pH inicial (6,3 vs. 6,1) dos cortes, para aves que sofreram estresse em relação àquelas que não foram submetidas ao estresse pré-abate.
