Abstract
Lipid metabolism is closely related to obesity and its complications. Our previous study found that ginsenoside Rk3 (Rk3), a natural bioactive substance derived from ginseng, can effectively alleviate obesity-induced colitis, while its impact on the improvement of the lipid metabolism disorder remains unclear. Here, we demonstrated that Rk3 significantly alleviated inflammation, oxidative stress, and lipid dysregulation in high-fat diet-induced colitis C57BL/6 mice. The potential mechanism by which Rk3 mitigated colon inflammation in the context of obesity may involve the modulation of polyunsaturated fatty acid metabolism with specific attention to n-6 fatty acids, linoleic acid, and arachidonic acid. Rk3 intervention markedly reduced the production of pro-inflammatory factors (PGE2, PGD2, TXB2, HETE, and HODE) by inhibiting cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase pathways, while enhancing the production of anti-inflammatory factors (EET and diHOME) via cytochrome P450 pathways. Our findings suggest that Rk3 is a potential anti-inflammatory natural drug that can improve obesity-induced intestinal inflammation by regulating lipid metabolism.

Abstract
Background/aim Intestinal neomucosa formation is a technique defined for the treatment of short bowel syndrome. This study evaluates the effect of glutamine and omega-3 fatty acids on the growth of intestinal neomucosa on the colonic serosal surface has been evaluated. Materials and methods Thirty-two adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: sham, control, glutamine, and omega-3. Laparotomy was performed on all groups. For rats other than the sham group, a 1-cm full-thickness incision was made 4 cm proximal to the ileocecal valve, and colonic serosal surface was sutured as a serosal patch over these openings. By using the oral gavage technique, the glutamine group was ingested with 200 mg/kg/day of glutamine, and the omega-3 group was ingested with 100 mg/kg/day of omega-3 fatty acids. At the end of 14 days, the rats were euthanized, blood specimens were collected, and intestinal segments, including serosal patches, were excised. Results Transforming growth factor-beta was significantly lower in the glutamine group compared to the control group. Similarly, fibroblast growth factor-2 was significantly lower in the glutamine group compared to the sham group. Intestinal neomucosa formation was observed in 100% of rats in the glutamine group. In the control and omega-3 groups, intestinal neomucosa formation was observed in 57.1% and 60% of rats, respectively. The inflammatory response, granulation tissue formation, and fibroblastic activity were more severe in the rats of the glutamine and omega-3 groups. Conclusion The intestinal neomucosa formation is an experimental technique, and both glutamine and omega-3 fatty acids have the potential to positively affect inflammatory response, granulation tissue formation, and fibroblastic activity. Specifically, glutamine has a favorable effect on intestinal neomucosa formation.

Abstract
Dittrichia viscosa belongs to the Dittrichia genus, it grows abundantly in the east and northeast of Morocco, and traditionally its fresh leaves are crushed and given for topical application after burns, wounds, and infections. In this study, we examine the wound-healing activity of Dittrichia viscosa lipidic extract in vivo, assess its anti-microbial effect, and explore the specific compounds that contribute to these effects. To assess the effectiveness of wound healing, a burn-induced wound model was employed in Wistar rats, and the levels of hydroxyproline as well as histopathological changes in the skin tissues were evaluated. Furthermore, the antimicrobial potential against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Candida albicans, Candida glabrata, and Malassezia furfur was investigated using the agar disc diffusion method. Gas Chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) techniques were employed to analyze the composition of fatty acids, phytosterols, and tocopherols. Topical application of Dittrichia viscosa lipidic fraction ointment exhibited significant improvements in wound contraction, achieving an impressive rate of 82% within 21 days. Additionally, the lipidic extract of Dittrichia viscosa displayed notable efficacy against various microbial strains, including Candida albicans (25.07 ± 0.2), Candida glabrata (24 ± 0.6), and Malassezia furfur (22 ± 0.7). The primary fatty acids identified in the sample were linolenic acid (58.95% ± 0), oleic acid (16.75% ±0.04), and linoleic acid (11.97% ± 0.1). Notably, the sample contained significant amounts of γ-Tocopherols (732.08 ± 21mg/kg), while the sterol fraction primarily consisted of 7-Campesterol (1937 ± 0 mg/kg), 7-β-Sitosterol (1621 ± 0 mg/kg), and Stigmasterol (1439 ± 26 mg/kg). By its richness in active compound content, Dittrichia viscosa effectively accelerates wound healing while safeguarding against microbial infections.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE In Brazil, there are species of snakes that become involved in accidents and cause serious health problems to the inhabitants, highlighting the genus Bothrops for being responsible for approximately 90% of accidents reported annually. In the northern region of the country, this genus is responsible for the largest number of accidents, especially among rural dwellers. These populations invest in alternative treatments for with the purpose of improving the symptoms caused by snakebites. The species Mauritia flexuosa L. f., known as buriti, is traditionally used for the treatment of envenomation by snakes. AIM OF THE STUDY This study aimed to evaluate the antiophidic potential of the oil of Mauritia flexuosa L. f. for Bothrops moojeni H. venom, confronting cultural and scientific knowledge. MATERIALS AND METHODS The physicochemical properties were determined, and the components present in the oil, extracted from fruit pulp, were analyzed by Gas Chromatography Coupled with Mass Spectrometry. The in vitro inhibitory capacity of the oil for phospholipase, metalloprotease and serine protease activities was investigated. In the in vivo studies, male Swiss mice were used to evaluate the effect of oil on lethality and toxicity, and hemorrhagic, myotoxic and edematogenic activities were assessed. RESULTS GC‒MS analysis identification of 90.95% of the constituents of the oil, with the main components being 9-eicosenoic acid, (Z)- (34.54%), n-hexadecanoic acid (25.55%) and (E)-9-octadecenoic acid ethyl ester (12.43%). For the substrates, the outcomes indicate that the oil inhibited the activity of the main classes of toxins present in Bothrops moojeni H. venom (VBm) at the highest dose tested (0.5 μL), with inhibition of 84% for the hydrolysis of the selective substrate for serine protease and inhibition of 60% for the hydrolysis of substrates for PLA2 and metalloproteases. The antiophidic activity in vivo was evaluated with two concentrations of the oil: 1.5 mg, the dosage the population, diluted in mineral oil to a volume of 1 tablespoon and 15 mg, administered by gavage 30 min before poisoning and at time zero (concomitant to poisoning), and both concentrations administered by gavage in combination with topical use at time zero. The bleeding time in the group treated with oil at a concentration of 15 mg administered at time zero was significantly lower than that in the control group (p < 0.05). However, a greater inhibition of bleeding time was observed when local application was combined with the gavage treatment at both concentrations tested at time zero (p < 0.05). In the myotoxicity test, oil was efficient in reducing the myotoxic effects induced by the venom at the two concentrations tested, with gavage administration at time zero and gavage plus topical administration at time zero (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The data obtained show that the oil is safe to use at the concentrations studied and contains fatty acids that may collaborate for cellular-level repair of the injuries caused by Bm poisoning. The in vitro and in vivo experiments showed that oil inhibits the main proteolytic enzymes present in the venom and that it has important activities to control the local effects caused by bothropic venom.

Abstract
Background: Manipulating intestinal microbiota with probiotics might stimulate skin
response. Understanding all stages of the healing process, as well as the
gut-skin-healing response can improve the skin healing process. Aim: To evaluate the effect of perioperative oral administration of probiotics on
the healing of skin wounds in rats. Methods: Seventy-two Wistar male adult rats were weighed and divided into two groups
with 36 each, one control group (supplemented with oral maltodextrin 250
mg/day) and one probiotic group (supplemented with Lactobacillus
paracasei LPC-37, Bifidobacterium lactis
HN0019, Lactobacillus rhamnosus HN001,
Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM® at a dose of
250 mg/day), both given orally daily for 15 days. The two groups were
subsequently divided into three subgroups according to the moment of
euthanasia: in the 3rd, 7th and 10th
postoperative days. Results: There were no significant changes in weight in both groups. Wound contraction
was faster in probiotic group when compared to the controls, resulting in
smaller wound area in the 7th postoperative day. As for
histological aspects, the overall H&E score was lower in the probiotic
group. The probiotic group showed increased fibrosis from 3rd to
the 7th postoperative day. The type I collagen production was
higher in the probiotic group at the 10th postoperative day, and
the type III collagen increased in the 7th. Conclusion: The perioperative use of orally administrated probiotic was associated with a
faster reduction of the wound area in rats probably by reducing the
inflammatory phase, accelerating the fibrosis process and the deposition of
collagen.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Omega-3 (ω-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) generate bioactive lipid mediators that reduce inflammation. The present study evaluated the effect of SMOFlipid containing ω-3 PUFAs on wound healing. METHODS Rats were divided into a SMOFlipid (SMOF) group and a 0.9% saline (placebo) group, with eight rats in each group. Wound excision was performed on the dorsal surface of each rat. In the SMOF group, 1 gm/kg SMOFlipid was dissolved in 3 mL saline as a treatment; in the placebo group, 3 mL saline was prepared as a treatment. The treatments were administered intravenously at an initial rate of 0.2 mL/kg body weight/h immediately after wounding, for 72 h. Blood samples were collected for white blood cell, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-10 measurements at the baseline and at 1, 6, 12, 24, 48, and 72 h after intervention. Wound areas were measured over a 2-week period after excision, and a histological examination was performed. RESULTS Compared with the placebo group, SMOFlipid supplementation engendered significant decreases in the wound area on day 3 (78.28 ± 5.25 vs. 105.86 ± 8.89%), day 5 (72.20 ± 4.31 vs. 96.39 ± 4.72%), day 10 (20.78 ± 1.28 vs. 39.80 ± 10.38%), and day 14 (7.56 ± 0.61 vs. 15.10 ± 2.42%). The placebo group had a higher TNF-α level than the SMOF group at 72 h. The IL-10 level was higher in the SMOF group than in the placebo group at 48 h. Histological analysis revealed a higher rate of fibroblast distribution and collagen fiber organization in the SMOF group (P = 0.01). CONCLUSION SMOFlipid enriched in ω-3 PUFA accelerates wound healing.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW The purpose of review is to provide an overview on specific nutrients which play an important role in bowel wound healing, and to judge the efficacy of supplementation to derive recommendations for clinical practice. RECENT FINDINGS Glutamine, arginine, butyrate, ω-3 fatty acids, nucleotides, and several micronutrients are involved in bowel wound healing. However, with regard to clinical trials, the efficacy of supplementation of specific nutrients on bowel wound healing in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases has not been clarified yet. In patients undergoing colon surgery, sufficient evidence exists that the perioperative supply of an enteral immunomodulating formula enriched with arginine, nucleotides, and ω-3 fatty acids may improve intestinal wound healing, considering the lower risk of wound infections, wound dehiscence, and intra-abdominal abscess. SUMMARY Even if a range of nutrients are involved in bowel wound healing, only perioperative supply of an enteral immunomodulating formula to cancer patients undergoing colon surgery, can be recommended. Further randomized controlled trials are needed to elucidate the efficacy of individual nutrients on intestinal wound healing.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare ileal anastomoses in the immediate postoperative healing period after meloxicam use. METHODS Forty two male Wistar rats were randomly divided into two groups of 21, COX and control group. To COX meloxicam in combination with morphine was given in 3 days period. Control group received only morphine during the same period. Each group was divided into three sub-groups of 7, which were euthanized at 5, 10, and 21 days postoperatively. Comparison was based in histological evaluation of collagen type I and III using sirius red, immunohistochemical through vascular endothelial growth factor and matrix metalloproteinase-9. RESULTS Healing process in scheduled periods did not show significant differences (p>0.05) between the COX and control groups during any of the periods. CONCLUSION The use of meloxicam in the postoperative period following ileal anastomosis did not affect healing.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate macro and microscopically, changes following the use of the aqueous extract of babassu (Orbignya phalerata) in the lung parenchyma and pleura of rats. METHODS Sixty adult male rats with average weight of 350 g, were randomized into two groups of 30 animals (experimental and control) further divided into sub-groups of 10 to be sacrificed at 48 h, 72 h and 21 days. The substance was injected into the right pleura of the animals. RESULTS There was intense pleuropulmonary macroscopic reaction with statistically significant differences between groups respectively (p<0.05, p<0.02, p<0.03). Microscopically, no statistically significant difference was evident (p>0.05). CONCLUSION The aqueous extract of babassu (Orbignya phalerata) was found to be highly irritating to the pleura and lung of rats, evidenced macroscopically by numerous adhesions and inflammation while no major changes were evident microscopically.

Abstract
Background The evaluation of collagen in the abdominal wall has been increasingly studied because of the relevance on collagen in the healing process after laparotomy. Aim To evaluate the amount of collagen in the linea alba of patients undergoing laparotomic bariatric surgery and comparing with non-obese cadavers. Methods Were evaluated 88 samples of aponeurosis from abdominal linea alba of 44 obese patients (obesity group) and 44 non-obese cadavers (control group). The samples were collected in 2013 and 2104, and were sorted according to age (18-30, 31-45 and 46-60), gender, BMI, waist and cervical circumference, and subcutaneous tissue thickness. Material for biopsy was collected from the supraumbilical region of the linea alba for immunohistochemical analysis differentiating collagen type 1 and type 3 and the 1/3 ratio. Image-Pro Plus pixel counting software was used to measure the amount of collagen. Results The obesity group evidenced mean age 44.11±9.90 years; 18-30 age group had three (6.8%) obese individuals; 31-45 had 22 (50%) and 46-60 had 19 (43.1%). Females were present in 81.8% (n=36); BMI (kg/m²) was 48.81±6.5; waist circumference (cm) was 136.761±13.55; subcutaneous tissue thickness (cm) 4.873±0.916. Considering age groups, gender and BMI, there were statistical differences in all tests when compared with the cadavers. Conclusion The amount of collagen in the linea alba above the umbilical region in the morbidly obese patients was smaller than in the non-obese cadavers in the same age group.
