Abstract
BACKGROUND Capecitabine (Xeloda®) is a cytotoxic, antimetabolite chemotherapeutic agent. Its most common adverse events are diarrhea, hand-foot syndrome (HFS), hyperbilirubinemia, hyperpigmentation, fatigue, abdominal pain, and other gastrointestinal effects. HFS or palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia (PPE) is an adverse reaction resulting from therapy with chemotherapeutic agents, classified into three degrees. Hyperpigmentation, as an adverse effect of capecitabine, can occur in different locations and with different patterns. The skin, nails and oral mucosal membrane can be affected. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to report and discuss oral hyperpigmentation associated with HFS caused by the use of capecitabine, which is still poorly described in the literature. METHODOLOGY A literature review was carried out using the online databases PubMed, Scielo, BVS, Lilacs, Medline, BBO and Google Scholar, associating the descriptors "Capecitabine", "Pigmentation Disorders", "Oral mucosa", "Cancer" and "Hand-Foot Syndrome", which were related and used to exemplify, discuss and report the exposed clinical case. RESULTS This case report corroborates the literature regarding the incidence in females and black skin persons like this patient who was affected by HFS when undergoing antineoplastic therapy with capecitabine and presented hyperpigmentation of the hands, feet and oral mucosa. On the oral mucosa, the hyperpigmented spots were diffuse, showing a blackish color and irregular edges. Their pathophysiology remains unknown. STUDY LIMITATIONS Few articles citing capecitabine-associated pigmentation. CONCLUSIONS It is hoped that this study may contribute to the identification and correct diagnosis of hyperpigmentation in the oral cavity, as well as call attention to the adverse effects related to capecitabine.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the prevalence of skin lesions and evaluate the clinical and sociodemographic factors associated with their presence in hospitalised patients. METHOD This descriptive, cross-sectional, correlational study was performed in inpatient units and intensive care units of a cancer hospital in São Paulo, Brazil, after approval by the Institutional Research Ethics Committee. Data from hospitalised adult patients with cancer were collected during physical examinations and from medical records. A Chi-squared test, univariate analysis, a logistic regression model with results expressed as odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI), and Classification and Regression Tree (CART) analysis were used to evaluate the data. RESULTS Of 341 patients, 80 had skin lesions, equating to an overall prevalence of 23.5%. The skin lesions included pressure injuries (10%), incontinence-associated dermatitis (6.7%), skin tears (6.5%), malignant wounds (3.8%) and complicated surgical wounds (3.2%). The factors associated with skin lesions in cancer patients were the use of disposable nappies (OR: 4.436) and age (59.1±15.1 years), according to the CART analysis, and the wearing of nappies (OR: 4.466, p<0.001), presence of ecchymosis (OR: 2.532, p<0.001) and infection (OR: 6.449, p=0.040), according to multiple regression analysis. CONCLUSION This study contributed to knowledge about prevalence and associated factors of skin lesions in hospitalised patients with cancer, allowing the implementation of preventive measures.

Abstract
Background Mucocutaneous adverse events are common during anticancer treatment, with variable consequences for the patient and their therapeutic regimen. Objective To evaluate the most common adverse events, as well as the drugs associated with their appearance and the consequences for cancer treatment. Methods A retrospective study was carried out through the analysis of patients treated at the Clinical Dermatology Unit of a public oncologic hospital. Results A total of 138 patients with 200 adverse events were evaluated. The most commonly identified adverse events were nail and periungual changes (20%), papulopustular eruptions (13%), acneiform eruptions (12%), hand-foot syndrome (6.5%), hand-foot skin reaction (6%), and xerosis (6%). The most frequently associated antineoplastic treatment groups were classical chemotherapy (46.2%), target therapy (32.3%), and other non-antineoplastic drugs used in neoplasia protocols (16.5%). Of the total number of patients, 17.4% had their treatment suspended or changed due to a dermatological adverse event. Study limitations Retrospective study and analysis of patients who were referred for specialized dermatological examination only, not allowing the assessment of the actual incidence of adverse events. Conclusion A wide variety of dermatological manifestations are secondary to antineoplastic treatment with several different drugs resulting, not rarely, in the interruption or modification of therapeutic regimens.

Abstract
Alternative models to replace animals in experimental studies remain a challenge in testing the effectiveness of dermatologic and cosmetic drugs. We proposed a model of human organotypic skin explant culture (hOSEC) to assess the profile of cutaneous drug skin distribution, adopting dacarbazine as a model, and respective new methodologies for dermatokinetic analysis. The viability tests were evaluated in primary keratinocytes and fibroblasts, and skin by MTT and TTC assays, respectively. Then, dacarbazine was applied to the culture medium, and the hOSEC method was applied to verify the dynamics of skin distribution of dacarbazine and determine its dermatokinetic profile. The results of cell and tissue viability showed that both were considered viable. The dermatokinetic results indicated that dacarbazine can be absorbed through the skin, reaching a concentration of 36.36 µg/mL (18,18%) of the initial dose (200 µg/mL) after 12 h in culture. Histological data showed that the skin maintained its structure throughout the tested time that the hOSEC method was applied. No apoptotic cells were observed in the epidermal and dermal layers. No visible changes in the dermo-epidermal junction and no inflammatory processes with the recruitment of defense cells were observed. Hence, these findings suggest that the hOSEC concept as an alternative ex vivo model for assessing the dynamics of skin distribution of drugs, such as dacarbazine, and determining their respective dermatokinetic profiles.

Abstract
Background The aim of this study was to analyze the risk factors of pressure injury (PI) in critically ill patients with cancer to build a risk prediction model for PI. Material/Methods Between January 2018 and December 2019, a total of 486 critically ill patients with cancer were enrolled in the study. Univariate analysis and binary logistic regression analysis were used to explore risk factors. Then, a risk prediction equation was constructed and a receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis model was used for prediction. Results Of the 486 critically ill patients with cancer, 15 patients developed PI. Risk factors found to have a significant impact on PI in critically ill patients with cancer included the APACHE II score (P<0.001), semi-reclining position (P=0.006), humid environment/moist skin (P<0.001), and edema (P<0.001). These 4 independent risk factors were used in the regression equation, and the risk prediction equation was constructed as Z=0.112×APACHE II score +2.549×semi-reclining position +2.757×moist skin +1.795×edema–9.086. From the ROC curve analysis, the area under the curve (AUC) was 0.938, sensitivity was 100.00%, specificity was 83.40%, and Youden index was 0.834. Conclusions The PI risk prediction model developed in this study has a high predictive value and provides a basis for PI prevention and treatment measures for critically ill patients with cancer.

Abstract
Drug reactions resulting from chemotherapy agents are common and frequently affect the skin. Although often benign, a select few of these cutaneous reactions may necessitate immediate changes to the antineoplastic regimens. Given the diversity of chemotherapeutic skin reactions and their complex implications on patient management, an organized conceptual schema is imperative for proper patient care. We evaluate a number of commonly seen chemotherapy-induced skin toxicities organized by pathogenic mechanism and drug class, providing a framework for the identification and categorization of adverse events to prevent unrecognition. Groupings of these reactions include direct cytotoxicity and/or drug accumulation, immunologic hypersensitivity, and aberrant molecular signaling.

Abstract
Adverse events and adverse drug reactions are common in clinical practice. Side effects range from the common to the rare and may be confused with other mucocutaneous manifestations resulting from several medications to treat infections, other medical conditions, and in the clinical setting of oncologic treatment. The objective of this chapter to review current data on adverse drug reactions, here classified as (i) severe adverse drug reactions, (ii) uncomplicated cutaneous adverse drug reactions, and (iii) adverse drug reactions caused by chemotherapy drugs, particularly those cases whereby the dermatologist is requested to issue a report and asked to comment on the safety and viability of readministration of a specific drug. We describe aspects associated with these events, presenting a detailed analysis of each of them.

Abstract
Taxanes are drugs used to treat many types of cancer, including breast and lung
cancer. The most common side effects of these drugs are neutropenia and mucositis.
Signs of skin toxicity are observed in about 65% of cases and include alopecia,
hypersensitivity reactions, persistent supravenous erythematous eruption, nail
changes, scleroderma reactions and others. We report two cases of skin reaction to
docetaxel and warn that it is not necessary to interrupt the treatment in these
cases.

Abstract
Esse estudo objetivou identificar a prevalência de lesões por fricção (LF) em pacientes hospitalizados com câncer e avaliar os fatores demográficos e clínicos associados ao seu desenvolvimento. Estudo epidemiológico, de corte transversal, realizado no Instituto do Câncer do Estado de São Paulo Octavio Frias de Oliveira. Todos os pacientes adultos, internados entre 10 e 18 de abril de 2010, foram avaliados por meio de entrevista e exame físico. Utilizou-se o teste Qui-Quadrado para comparação das variáveis demográficas e clínicas entre pacientes com e sem LF. Foram avaliados 157 pacientes: cinco apresentaram nove LF, acarretando prevalência de 3,3%. Quanto às variáveis demográficas, houve diferença estatisticamente significativa somente para o número de filhos (p=0,027). Clinicamente, pacientes com LF apresentaram menores escores na escala de Karnofsky (p=0,031) e na Escala de Braden (p=0,026), além de comportamento pouco colaborativo (p=0,042). Esse estudo contribui para um melhor conhecimento acerca das LF em pacientes com câncer.

Abstract
Chemotherapy with taxanes has recently become part of the treatment for many advanced neoplastic diseases, specially breast and lung cancer. Their main noncutaneous adverse reactions include neutropenia and mucositis, which eventually lead to drug discontinuation. Cutaneous adverse reactions are frequent and significantly interfere with the patient's quality of life. Treatments are poorly effective, but special recommendations may improve symptoms and prevent relapses requiring drug rechallenge.
