Abstract
The chigger species Acomatacarus coahuilensis n. sp. (Acariformes: Trombidiformes: Leeuwenhoekiidae) inhabiting the neck scales of the wary spiny lizard Sceloporus cautus Smith, 1938 (Squamata: Iguania: Phrynosomatidae), from Chihuahuan Desert Province, Coahuila, Mexico, is described herein. The new mite species is assigned to the genus AcomatacarusEwing, 1942, based on a palptarsus with 6 branched setae plus the tarsala (ω). This new species can be separated from the other species in this genus mainly based on the combination of the following characters: presence of mastisetae (MTa) on tarsus III and tibiala (φ) on tibia III, subterminala (ζ1), parasubterminala (z), and pretarsala (ζ2) on tarsus I, 2 genualae (σ1-2) on genu I, onychotriches and claw-like empodium of legs I-III, and absence of mastisetae on tibia III. In addition to the new species, the gastrointestinal nematode Skrjabinoptera phrynosoma (Ortlepp, 1922) Schulz, 1927 (Physalopteridae), was also found, which represents a new host record in the wary spiny lizard. This study reports the third species of the genus Acomatacarus recorded from Mexico and the first record of chigger mites and helminth parasites associated with Sc. cautus.

Genetic characterisation of Tanqua (von Linstow, 1879) (Nematoda: Gnathostomatidae) larval forms including new host and locality records. Int J Parasitol Parasites Wildl 2022; 17:127-132. Abstract
In an unrelated study of spotted snakehead fish Channa punctata (Bloch) of family Channidae (N = 103) from Bangladesh, ten fish had taupe and clear coloured cysts attached to the intestinal mesentery. Investigation of the cysts revealed larval nematodes. The larvae were damaged and not suitable for detailed morphological study, however, key features such as tooth like projections of the pseudolabia and lateral pseudolabium were observed in specimens with undamaged cephalic regions. Molecular characterisation was undertaken and although the parasite genetic material was poor, five of the twelve nematode larvae through sequencing of the 18S ribosomal RNA gene, showed 98.17% match with sequences assigned for Tanqua tiara (accession number JF934728) deposited in GenBank. The prevalence of infection was 9.7% and the mean intensity 2.70. Tanqua has not previously been identified in fish, or from the definitive host, the Asian water monitor Varanus salvator (Laurenti, 1768) of family Varanidae (class Reptilia), in Bangladesh. Therefore, this study represents a new host and locality record for this nematode species. In many previous reports from this region, nematode larvae have been identified morphologically and assigned to a diverse range of nematode genera. Some confusion therefore exists regarding their accuracy and further investigations are required using molecular methodology to clarify the species of larval nematodes which infect edible fish in Bangladesh. Abstract
Despite being the two most recorded species of Physaloptera from lizards in the Americas, P. retusa and P. lutzi are either incompletely described or have accumulated inaccurate morphological data through the years. Here, we redescribe both species from Tropidurus torquatus in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, including evaluation of specimens from the Coleção Helmintológica do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz. In P. retusa, the presence and location of amphids, presence and pattern of porous areas on pseudolabia, detailed pattern of cuticular ornamentations on ventral surface of the caudal bursa, structure of cloacal labia, presence of dome-shaped elevation between the last pair of postcloacal papillae and location of phasmids in males, were revealed for the first time. Additional morphometric data are also provided. In P. lutzi, the detailed morphological analysis revealed for the first time, porous areas on pseudolabia, as well as presence of amphids, phasmids, and the detailed ornamentation and papillae arrangement on the male bursa. Also, the presence of an internal tripartite and an external triangular labial tooth in the specimens were observed to be constant, diverging from the assertions by other authors. Finally, in P. lutzi was possible to observe that deirids are consistently located close to muscular oesophagus base with excretory pore slightly posterior to it, and the vulva is always close to anal aperture. The present observations confirmed the validity of P. lutzi and strengthened its taxonomic diagnosis. An up-to-date list of records of both species is provided, including a brief discussion on their host spectrum and geographic range.
