Abstract
Abstract
Very few researchers have focused on the biological efficacy of Limonium plants. In this concern, no investigations were commenced to delve into the in vitro and ex vivo biological actions of Limonium pruinosum in Egypt. Therefore, this work aims to assess for the first time the antimicrobial, antioxidant, and antitumor activities of Limonium pruinosum extract in addition to studying its ability to suppress the transcription of cell cycle–stimulating genes. L. pruinosum ethyl acetate extract exhibits considerable antibacterial and antibiofilm activity versus E. coli ATCC 25922 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Results revealed that L. pruinosum exerts antioxidant effectiveness concerning DPPH, nitric oxide (NO), and hydroxyl radical (OH) scavenging ability with an IC50 (35.88 ± 2.2, 51.31 ± 1.06, and 65.87 ± 1.19 μg/mL) respectively. The results proved the effectiveness of L. pruinosum in closing wounds in gastric epithelial cells (GES-1) by (79.9343 ± 1.98%) compared with control (68.3637 ± 2.32%) in 48 h. Additionally, L. pruinosum had anticancer activity contrary to breast cancer MCF-7 and liver cancer HepG-2 cell lines with IC50 values of 96.73 ± 2.18 and 81.81 ± 0.99 μg/mL, respectively, while it had no cytotoxic activity against (Wi-38) normal cells. Also, L. pruinosum extract provoked considerable early- and late-apoptotic cell populations and was effective in inducing cell death of MCF-7. Our findings evoked that L. pruinosum has promising antibacterial, antioxidant, and wound healing activities and a good breast tumor suppressor arresting the cell cycle-stimulating genes, which may be an auspicious approach for the treatment of breast cancer.

Abstract
Two cytotoxic sesquiterpene lactones, 17-epichlorohyssopifolin A (1) and chlorjanerin (2), and a monoterpene lactone, loliolide (3) were isolated from Centaurea pseudosinaica. The cytotoxicity of the total extract and terpenoids 1-3 were evaluated against three human cancer cells (HepG2, PC-3, and HT-29), along with the human normal primary epidermal keratinocytes (HEKa) cells. With IC50 values ranging between 0.6 ± 0.04 and 5.0 ± 0.61 μg/mL against HepG2; 0.2 ± 0.01 and 11.9 ± 1.31 μg/mL against PC-3, and 0.04 ± 0.013 and 8.9 ± 0.97 μg/mL against HT-29, the total extract, and lactones 1-3 demonstrated cytotoxic effects. Compound 1 displayed the strongest impact on all cancer cells and a slightly safe effect on the normal cells HEKa. Compound 1 caused accumulation of HepG2 and HT-29 cells in G1 phase as displayed cell cycle analysis. On the other hand, the cell distributions were increased in the S phase in PC-3 cells. Furthermore, 1 caused apoptosis in PC-3 and HePG2 cells with 91.50%, and 79.72 %, respectively. A higher fraction of necrotic cells was observed in HT-29 cells amounting to 23.60%. These results suggested that the promising cytotoxicity exhibited by 1 is brought by the apoptosis induction in the cancer cells, which were evaluated. As the compounds showed antiproliferative effect against the HT-29 cells, the docking simulation was performed aiming at determining how they would interact with the EGFR enzyme, whose PDB: 4I23 is considered one of the two distinct wild types of EGFR enzymes. The antibacterial activity results revealed that 3 showed the most remarkable antibacterial effects, especially against the examined Gram-positive bacteria. The total extract exhibited potent activity against all examined bacteria. The total extract showed a potent antifungal effect against two Candida and two Aspergillus pathogens. The antioxidant activity revealed the potency of the total extract and 3 as antioxidant candidates. The obtained results refer to the importance of Centaurea pseudosinaica as a source of potent antiproliferative agents and the whole plant as an antipathogenic and antioxidant agent.

Abstract
In the current study, new benzimidazole-based 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives have been synthesized and characterized by NMR, IR, MS, and elemental analysis. The final compounds were screened for cytotoxicity against MDA-MB-231, SKOV3, and A549 cell lines and EGFR for inhibitory activities. Compounds 10 and 13 were found to be the most active against all the tested cell lines, comparable to doxorubicin, and exhibited significant inhibition on EGFR kinase, with IC50 0.33 and 0.38 μM, respectively, comparable to erlotinib (IC50 0.39 μM). Furthermore, these two compounds effectively suppressed cell cycle progression and induced cell apoptosis in MDA-MB-231, SKOV3, and A549 cell lines. The docking studies revealed that these compounds showed interactions similar to erlotinib at the EGFR site. It can be concluded that the synthesized molecules effectively inhibit EGFR, can arrest the cell cycle, and may trigger apoptosis and therefore, could be used as lead molecules in the development of new anticancer agents targeting EGFR kinase.

Abstract
Vulnerable populations in developing countries need new protein sources, such as protein concentrates from accessible sources at low economic costs. The main objective of this study was at evaluating the nutritional quality of the protein concentrate of the legume mesquite (Prosopis juliflora), compared with the protein values of other legumes described in literature. For this purpose, flour and protein concentrates from mesquite were obtained, along with their chemical composition. Amino acid profiling was performed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Protein quality index evaluation tests were also performed on preschool children and adults. The protein content of mesquite was found to be 68%. However, mesquite covers the requirements of essential amino acids, surpassing 31% of the protein required in adults, except for cysteine sulfur amino acids and aromatic amino acids. In other age groups such as children, mesquite had a high content of histidine, which is necessary and considered essential during infant development. According to the above, mesquite could be used as an alternative protein to produce food with high nutritional content.
