Abstract
The study aimed to investigate the feasibility of attenuation imaging (ATI) measurements using a linear probe on healthy volunteers and compare measurements with the conventional convex probe. Attenuation imaging measurements of the liver tissue were taken using ultrasound with a convex and a linear probe in 33 volunteers by two examining doctors, and the measurements were repeated 4-5 weeks later by one of them. The ATI values for the linear probe were in the range of the values for the convex probe for both examiners. Measurements did not change significantly for 32 out of 33 volunteers after 4-5 weeks when using the linear probe. The size of the region of interest (ROI) only impacted the ATI values for the convex probe; it did not affect the values taken with the linear probe. Healthy volunteers were measured, and their attenuation values were compared to those from a convex probe, commonly used in steatosis evaluation. When both probes were positioned in the same liver area, they showed good agreement in attenuation values, though depth significantly affected the measurements, with both probes providing different values at different depths. The study's results aligned with previous research using the same system. Operator A and B's results were compared, demonstrating similar ranges of values for both probes. The linear probe has been demonstrated to allow for superficial measurements and attain ATI values in line with that of the convex probe in the liver.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate the reproducibility of tissue attenuation imaging (TAI) and tissue scatter distribution imaging (TSI) measurements in adults with suspected metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) between radiologists with varying experience. MATERIALS AND METHODS Participants with suspected MASLD were prospectively recruited. TAI and TSI were performed for each participant by two radiologists with different levels of experience. Interoperability reliability was assessed on the basis of Bland-Altman analysis and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs). The study determined and compared the diagnostic performance of TAI and TSI with clinical prediction models using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) as a reference. RESULTS A total of 180 participants (women, n = 56; men, n = 124, mean age, 46.98 ± 14.92 years; mean BMI, 25.81 ± 4.47) were enrolled from August 2022 to September 2022. Bland-Altman plots showed only slight deviation in the TAI and TSI results of the two radiologists; there was good interoperator reproducibility for TAI (ICC = 0.92) and TSI (ICC = 0.86). Senior and junior radiologists performed examinations labeled as TAI-1 and TSI-1, and TAI-2 and TSI-2, respectively. The areas under the curves (AUCs) of TAI-1, TAI-2, TSI-1, and TAI-2 for the detection of ≥5 % hepatic steatosis were 0.90, 0.96, 0.91 and 0.96, respectively. According to ROC analysis, the diagnostic performance of both radiologists for TAI and TSI was statistically similar and superior to that of the clinical prediction model. CONCLUSIONS TAI and TSI have good reproducibility between radiologists with different levels of experience. Meanwhile, both TAI and TSI demonstrated good diagnostic performance for hepatic steatosis (≥5%), surpassing that of clinical prediction models.

Abstract
Introduction Depressive-like behavior has been shown to be associated with liver damage. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of three different models of depression on the behavior of mice with liver injury. Methods During the 4 weeks of methionine/choline deficiency diet (MCD), adult C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into four groups: MCD (no stress protocol, n = 6), chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS, n = 9), acute and repeated forced swim stress [aFSS (n = 9) and rFSS (n = 9)]. Results All depression protocols induced increased anhedonia and anxiety-like behavior compared to baseline and had no impact on the severity of liver damage, according to ultrasonography. However, different protocols evoked different overall behavior patterns. After the depressive-like behavior induction protocols, animals subjected to aFSS did not exhibit anxiety-like behavior differences compared to MCD animals, while mice subjected to CUMS showed additional weight loss compared to FSS animals. All tested protocols for inducing depressive-like behavior decreased the short-term memory of mice with liver damage, as assessed by the novel object recognition test (NORT). Discussion Our results show that the use of all protocols seems to generate different levels of anxiety-like behavior, but only the depressive-like behavior induction procedures associate additional anhedonia and memory impairment in mice with liver injury.

Abstract
There have been studies showing attenuation imaging (ATI) with ultrasound as an approach to diagnose liver diseases such as steatosis or cirrhosis. So far, this technique has only been used on a convex probe. The goal of the study was to investigate the feasibility of ATI measurements using the linear array on a canon Aplio i800 scanner on certified phantoms. Three certified liver tissue attenuation phantoms were measured in five different positions using a linear probe. The effects of positioning and depth were explored and compared. The values were compared to the certified expected value for each phantom as well as the different measurement values for each measurement position. The ATI measurements on phantoms showed significant effect for the different probe positions and region of interest (ROI) depths. Values taken in the center with the probe perpendicular to the phantom were closest to certified values. Median values at 2.5-4.5 cm depth for phantoms 1 and 2 and 0.5-2.5 cm for phantom 3 were comparable with certified values. Measurements taken at a depth greater than 6 cm in any position were the least representative of the certified values (p-value < 0.01) and had the widest range throughout the different sessions. ATI measurements can be performed with the linear probe in phantoms; however, careful consideration should be given to depth dependency, as it can significantly affect measurement values. Remaining measurements at various depths within the 0.5-6.0 cm range showed deviation from the certified values of approximately 25%.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between the severity of fatty liver and factors such as gender, lifestyle, and the risks of metabolic abnormalities, inflammation, and liver dysfunction in the working population. This cross-sectional study included 2936 workers aged 21-64 years. The severity of fatty liver was assessed using ultrasound. A self-administered survey was used to evaluate lifestyle habits. Data on anthropometric measurements, blood pressure, blood tests, and biochemical evaluations was collected. The 45.5% of workers had fatty liver. Males had a higher prevalence of fatty liver and health risks and several unhealthy lifestyle habits compared to females. The health behavior score related to exercise showed notable declines as the severity of fatty liver increased (p < 0.001). Percentages of current alcohol drinkers differed among different levels of fatty liver, with rates of 43.1, 48.4, 44.8, and 63.4% (p = 0.005) observed in the absence, mild, moderate, and severe fatty liver, respectively. Workers with fatty liver showed increased risks related to metabolic anomalies, especially in severe cases. The risk of inflammation and liver dysfunction also significantly increased with elevated fatty liver severity. Overall, fatty liver presents significant health risks, with nearly half of the workers diagnosed with the condition. To improve liver health, it is crucial to have customized strategies for promoting health, taking into account the different levels of severity in fatty liver.

Abstract
Currently, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is the most common liver disease worldwide, with a prevalence of 32%. It is much more common among men (40%) and among patients with metabolic comorbidities such as obesity, diabetes and dyslipidemia. Being an asymptomatic disease, the diagnosis is often established on the basis of imaging methods, with an important role given to abdominal ultrasonography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. In order to facilitate diagnosis, experts have introduced a series of blood biomarkers. Two biomarker panels are currently validated for the diagnosis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease: the fatty liver index, and the hepatic steatosis index. The fatty liver index has been in use in medical practice for over 17 years and has demonstrated its accuracy in various studies that compared it with other diagnostic methods, highlighted its role in screening patients with cardiovascular risk and validated the effects of different diets and drugs that are proposed for the treatment of the disease. In the management of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, the fatty liver index is an important algorithm in the diagnosis and prognosis of patients with metabolic risk. Taking into account the diversity of drugs to be approved in the treatment of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, the fatty liver index will become an effective tool in monitoring the effects of these therapies.

Abstract
Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is emerging as a significant global health concern, characterized by hepatic lipid accumulation, inflammation, and hepatocellular injury. Hepatocytic ballooning, a histological feature of NASH, has gained prominence for its role in disease progression and potential as a therapeutic target. This review provides an overview of the current knowledge regarding hepatocytic ballooning in NASH, highlighting the key molecular and cellular mechanisms implicated in its development. We delve into the intricate interplay of metabolic dysregulation, oxidative stress, and lipid toxicity as drivers of hepatocytic ballooning, shedding light on the pathways responsible for its initiation and perpetuation. Furthermore, we explore the diagnostic challenges associated with hepatocytic ballooning and its significance as a prognostic indicator in NASH patients. While hepatocytic ballooning holds promise as a therapeutic target, this abstract discusses the various experimental and clinical approaches to ameliorate this histological hallmark. Potential interventions, including lifestyle modifications, pharmacological agents, and emerging therapies, are evaluated in terms of their efficacy and safety profiles. In conclusion, this review underscores the need to bridge the knowledge gap surrounding hepatocytic ballooning in NASH and emphasizes its importance in understanding disease pathogenesis and progression. By charting future research avenues and clinical strategies, we aspire to advance our comprehension of NASH and ultimately improve patient outcomes in this rapidly evolving field of hepatology.

Abstract
Objective.While ultrasound image texture has been utilized to detect and quantify hepatic steatosis, the texture features extracted using a single (conventionally 1540 m s-1) beamforming speed of sound (SoS) failed to achieve reliable diagnostic performance. This study aimed to investigate if the texture features extracted using various beamforming SoSs can improve the accuracy of hepatic steatosis detection and quantification.Approach.Patients with suspected non-alcoholic fatty liver disease underwent liver biopsy or MRI proton density fat fraction (PDFF) as part of standard of care, were prospectively enrolled. The radio-frequency data from subjects' right and left liver lobes were collected using 6 beamforming SoSs: 1300, 1350, 1400, 1450, 1500 and 1540 m s-1and analyzed offline. The texture features, i.e. Contrast, Correlation, Energy and Homogeneity from gray-level co-occurrence matrix of normalized envelope were obtained from a region of interest in the liver parenchyma.Main results.Forty-three subjects (67.2%) were diagnosed with steatosis while 21 had no steatosis. Homogeneity showed the area under the curve (AUC) of 0.75-0.82 and 0.58-0.81 for left and right lobes, respectively with varying beamforming SoSs. The combined Homogeneity value over 1300-1540 m s-1from left and right lobes showed the AUC of 0.90 and 0.81, respectively. Furthermore, the combined Homogeneity values from left and right lobes over 1300-1540 m s-1improved the AUC to 0.94. The correlation between texture features and steatosis severity was improved by using the images from various beamforming SoSs. The combined Contrast values over 1300-1540 m s-1from left and right lobes demonstrated the highest correlation (r= 0.90) with the MRI PDFF while the combined Homogeneity values over 1300-1540 m s-1from left and right lobes showed the highest correlation with the biopsy grades (r= -0.81).Significance.The diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound texture features in detecting and quantifying hepatic steatosis was improved by combining its values extracted using various beamforming SoSs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the accuracy of two-dimension real-time shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) for the diagnosis of steatohepatitis and fibrosis in a cohort patients confirmed nonalcoholic fatty liver diseases (NAFLD) by liver biopsy, and compare with four noninvasive fibrotic biomarker scores (NFS, FIB-4, BARD and APRI). METHODS 116 NAFLD patients and 23 normal control group were enrolled. The diagnostic performance of 2D-SWE and four noninvasive fibrotic biomarker scores was evaluated based on histopathological inflammation grades and fibrosis stages (F) according to Kleiner/Brunt et al.'s criteria classification. 5-fold cross validation and receiver operating characteristics curve (ROC) analyses were used to obtain an assessment of 2D-SWE and four noninvasive fibrotic biomarker scores; then cross validated area under the curves (AUCs) were compared using the test of Delong. Meanwhile, influence of steatosis on liver stiffness measurement (LSM) of 2D-SWE was also studied. RESULTS Liver stiffness measured by 2D-SWE proved to be an excellent diagnostic indicator for detecting steatohepatitis (AUROC =0.88), and fibrosis: ≥F2 stage (AUROC =0.86), ≥F3 stage (AUROC =0.89) and =F4 stage (AUROC =0.90) with the cutoff values were 7.3, 10.0, 11.6 and 12.6 kPa, respectively. Compared with fibrotic scores, 2D-SWE had the highest AUROC for predicting ≥F2, ≥F3, =F4 by Delong test (all P<0.05). No statistic differences of LSM were found among different steatosis levels (P=0.97). CONCLUSIONS The stiffness measured by 2D-SWE could be used to noninvasively identify steatohepatitis and stage fibrosis in NAFLD patients. Moreover, the diagnosis efficiency of the stiffness measured by 2D-SWE could not be influenced by steatosis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIMS Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is widespread chronic disease of the live in humans with the prevalence of 30% of the United States population.1,2 The goal of the study is to validate the performance of quantitative ultrasound algorithms in the assessment of hepatic steatosis in patients with suspected NAFLD. METHODS This prospective study enrolled a total of 31 patients with clinical suspicion of NAFLD to receive liver fat measurements by quantitative ultrasound and reference MRI measurements (proton density fat-fraction, PDFF). The following ultrasound (US) parameters based on both raw ultrasound RF (Radio Frequency) data and 2D B-mode images of the liver were analyzed with subsequent correlation with MRI-PDFF: hepatorenal index, acoustic attenuation coefficient, Nakagami coefficient parameter, shear wave viscosity, shear wave dispersion and shear wave elasticity. Ultrasound parameters were also correlated with the presence of hypertension and diabetes. RESULTS The mean (± SD) age and body mass index of the patients were 49.03 (± 12.49) and 30.12 (± 6.15), respectively. Of the aforementioned ultrasound parameters, the hepatorenal index and acoustic attenuation coefficient showed a strong correlation with MRI-PDFF derivations of hepatic steatosis, with r-values of 0.829 and 0.765, respectively. None of the remaining US parameters showed strong correlations with PDFF. Significant differences in Nakagami parameters and acoustic attenuation coefficients were found in those patients with and without hypertension. CONCLUSIONS Hepatorenal index and acoustic attenuation coefficient correlate well with MRI-PDFF-derived measurements of hepatic steatosis. Quantitative ultrasound is a promising tool for the diagnosis and assessment of patients with NAFLD.

Abstract
Purpose This study aimed to assess the inter-platform reproducibility of ultrasound attenuation examination in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Methods Between March 2021 and April 2021, patients with clinically suspected or known NAFLD were prospectively enrolled; each patient underwent ultrasound attenuation examinations with three different platforms (Attenuation Imaging [ATI], Canon Medical System; Tissue Attenuation Imaging [TAI], Samsung Medison; and Ultrasound-Guided Attenuation Parameter [UGAP], GE Healthcare) on the same day. The mean attenuation coefficient (AC) values of the three platforms were compared using repeated-measures analysis of variance with the Bonferroni correction. To evaluate inter-platform reproducibility, the AC values obtained for each platform were compared using Bland-Altman analysis with the calculation of 95% limits of agreement (LOA), intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs), and coefficients of variation (CVs). Results Forty-six patients (23 men; mean age±standard deviation, 52.3±12.4 years) were enrolled. The mean AC values showed significant differences among the three platforms (0.75±0.12, 0.80±0.11, and 0.74±0.09 dB/cm/MHz for ATI, TAI, and UGAP, respectively; P<0.001). For inter-platform reproducibility, the 95% LOAs were -0.22 to 0.11 dB/cm/MHz between ATI and TAI, -0.17 to 0.18 dB/cm/MHz between ATI and UGAP, and -0.08 to 0.20 dB/cm/MHz between TAI and UGAP, respectively. The pairwise ICCs were 0.790-0.797 in terms of absolute agreement among the three platforms; the CVs were 8.23%-9.47%. Conclusion The AC values obtained from different ultrasound attenuation examination platforms showed significant differences, with significant inter-platform variability. Therefore, the AC values measured using different ultrasound attenuation examination techniques should not be used interchangeably for longitudinal follow-up of patients with NAFLD.

Abstract
Aim of the study To assess the effect of water intake on ultrasound tissue characteristics and hemodynamics of adult livers. Material and methods In February 2020, we prospectively performed ultrasound shear wave elastography and attenuation imaging (ATI) of the liver parenchyma, and spectral Doppler sonography of the portal vein and hepatic artery in 19 adult healthy volunteers (10 men and 9 women, mean age 27 years, mean body mass index 24.65 kg/m2). We measured liver shear wave velocity (SWV, m/s), shear wave dispersion (SWD, m/s/kHz), attenuation coefficient (dB/cm/MHz), main portal vein velocity (PVV, cm/s), hepatic artery peak systolic velocity (PSV, cm/s), and end diastolic velocity (EDV, cm/s) immediately before and at different time points (15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes) after water intake (1.0 l water and 1.5 l water for body weight < 150 lbs. and ≥ 150 lbs., respectively). Results The differences in SWV, PVV, hepatic artery PSV and EDV before and after water intake were significant (p < 0.01) whereas the differences in SWD and ATI were not (p > 0.05) based on repeated measures ANOVA tests. The values of SWV, PVV, PSV, and EDV reached a peak at 30-45 minutes and returned to baseline 60 minutes after water intake. We observed positive correlations of SWV with PVV, PSV, and EDV in linear regression analyses (r2 > 0.73). Conclusions Water intake affects the liver stiffness and hemodynamics. No water intake at least one hour prior to liver ultrasound elastography and Doppler sonography is recommended.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To develop radiomic models of B-mode ultrasound (US) signatures for determining the origin of primary tumors in metastatic liver disease. METHODS A total of 254 patients with a diagnosis of metastatic liver disease were included in this retrospective study. The patients were divided into 3 groups depending on the origin of the primary tumor: group 1 (digestive tract versus non-digestive tract tumors), group 2 (breast cancer versus non-breast cancer), and group 3 (lung cancer versus other malignancies). The patients in each group were allocated to a training or testing set (a ratio of 8:2). The region of interest of liver metastasis was determined through manual differentiation of the tumors, and radiomic signatures were acquired from B-mode US images. Optimal features were selected to develop 3 radiomic models using multiple-dimensionality reduction and classifier screening. The area under the curve (AUC) of the receiver operating characteristic curve was applied to assess each model's performance. RESULTS A total of 5936 features were extracted, and 40, 6, and 14 optimal features were sequentially identified for the development of radiomic models for groups 1, 2, and 3, respectively, with training set AUC values of 0.938, 0.974, and 0.768 and testing set AUC values of 0.767, 0.768, and 0.750. The differences in age, sex, and number of liver metastatic lesions varied greatly between the 4 primary tumors (P < .050). CONCLUSIONS B-mode US radiomic models could be effective supplemental means to identify the origin of hepatic metastatic lesions (ie, unknown primary sites).

Abstract
Introduction la stéatopathie métabolique est-elle une priorité de santé en Afrique? Le but était d´étudier les facteurs épidémiologiques et les manifestations hépatiques (anomalies biologiques et la stéatose échographique) associés au syndrome métabolique (SM) chez les adultes suivis en ambulatoire. Méthodes étude multicentrique transversale avec un suivi longitudinal des patients. Elle a été menée de mars 2015 à août 2019 dans la ville de Ouagadougou. Etaient inclus les malades présentant un SM selon les critères harmonisés pour les africains subsahariens. Résultats la fréquence du SM était à 15,74%. Il y a eu un recrutement 3,8 fois plus rapide de patients la dernière année. Les femmes (57,04) étaient majoritaires; l´âge moyen de 44,69 ans. Le surpoids et l´obésité concernaient 87,32%. Les composantes du SM retrouvées étaient: la dyslipidémie (64,79%), l´hyperglycémie (49,30%), l´HTA (45,07%), le tour de taille moyen de 98,68 cm chez les hommes et de 101,13 cm chez les femmes. L´infection virale B était associée chez 19,01% et celle au HIV chez 1,40%. Une patiente présentait un syndrome de polykystose ovarienne. Une tradithérapie était en cours chez 14,08%. Les transaminases étaient normales chez 73,94%. Une stéatose hépatique échographique était retrouvée chez 71,13%. Le Fibroscan® avait été effectué par 40,42%. Le résultat de la stéatose était discordant de celui échographique chez 56,14%. Conclusion pour réduire le SM et ses composantes, il est nécessaire de lutter contre l´obésité (surtout féminine). Une meilleure accessibilité au Fibroscan® permettra d´améliorer sa prise en charge au Burkina Faso.

Abstract
Objective To investigate the diagnostic performance of quantitative ultrasound (US) parameters for the assessment of hepatic steatosis in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) using magnetic resonance imaging proton density fat fraction (MRI-PDFF) as the reference standard. Materials and Methods In this single-center prospective study, 120 patients with clinically suspected NAFLD were enrolled between March 2019 and January 2020. The participants underwent US examination for radiofrequency (RF) data acquisition and chemical shift-encoded liver MRI for PDFF measurement. Using the RF data analysis, the attenuation coefficient (AC) based on tissue attenuation imaging (TAI) (AC-TAI) and scatter-distribution coefficient (SC) based on tissue scatter-distribution imaging (TSI) (SC-TSI) were measured. The correlations between the quantitative US parameters (AC and SC) and MRI-PDFF were evaluated using Pearson correlation coefficients. The diagnostic performance of AC-TAI and SC-TSI for detecting hepatic fat contents of ≥ 5% (MRI-PDFF ≥ 5%) and ≥ 10% (MRI-PDFF ≥ 10%) were assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. The significant clinical or imaging factors associated with AC and SC were analyzed using linear regression analysis. Results The participants were classified based on MRI-PDFF: < 5% (n = 38), 5–10% (n = 23), and ≥ 10% (n = 59). AC-TAI and SC-TSI were significantly correlated with MRI-PDFF (r = 0.659 and 0.727, p < 0.001 for both). For detecting hepatic fat contents of ≥ 5% and ≥ 10%, the areas under the ROC curves of AC-TAI were 0.861 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.786–0.918) and 0.835 (95% CI: 0.757–0.897), and those of SC-TSI were 0.964 (95% CI: 0.913–0.989) and 0.935 (95% CI: 0.875–0.972), respectively. Multivariable linear regression analysis showed that MRI-PDFF was an independent determinant of AC-TAI and SC-TSI. Conclusion AC-TAI and SC-TSI derived from quantitative US RF data analysis yielded a good correlation with MRI-PDFF and provided good performance for detecting hepatic steatosis and assessing its severity in NAFLD.

Abstract
Dysregulation of the human's energy balance, mediated by non-performing endocrine organs (liver, skeletal muscle and adipose tissue, above all), can be related to human metabolic disorders characterized by an impaired body composition (BC), such as obesity and sarcopenia. While it is possible to monitor the BC and its variations at different levels, the tissue-organ composition studies have been proven to provide the most clinically applicable information. Ultrasonography (US), a fast, non-invasive, low-cost and widely available technique, holds great potential in the study of BC, as it can directly measure muscles, organs, visceral and subcutaneous fat tissue in different sections of the abdomen and body, overcoming some limits of anthropometric evaluation and other imaging techniques. Purpose of this review article is to explore the technical aspects and the applied methods of US examination to assess the potential clinical role of this technique in the context of BC characterization, investigating four pivotal topics [abdominal fat compartments, subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT), skeletal muscle, liver].

Abstract
Despite the ability of microbubble contrast agents to improve ultrasound diagnostic performance, their application potential is limited due to low stability, fast clearance, and poor tissue permeation. This study presents a promising nanosized phase-changeable erythrocyte (Sonocyte), composed of liposomal dodecafluoropentane coated with multilayered red blood cell membranes (RBCm), for improving ultrasound assessments. Sonocyte is the first RBCm-functionalized ultrasound contrast agent with uniform nanosized morphology, and exhibits good stability, systemic circulation, target-tissue accumulation, and even ultrasound-responsive phase transition, thereby satisfying the inherent requirement of ultrasound imaging. It is identified that Sonocyte displays similar sensitivity as microbubble SonoVue, a clinical ultrasound contrast agent, for effectively detecting normal parenchyma and hepatic necrosis. Importantly, compared with SonoVue lacking of ability to detect tumors, Sonocyte can identify tumors with high sensitivity and specificity due to superior tumor accumulation and penetration. Therefore, Sonocyte exhibits superior capabilities over SonoVue, endowing with a great clinical application potential.

Abstract
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an emerging epidemic worldwide and is regarded as a hepatic manifestation of metabolic syndrome (MetS). Only a few studies have discussed the biological features associated with quantitative assessment of ultrasound for characterizing NAFLD. Our aim was to delineate relevant metabolic characteristics using a new quantitative tool, the ultrasound quantitative diagnostic index (QDI). A total of 394 ultrasound data were analyzed to extract texture-feature parameters, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and the slope of the center frequency downshift (CFDS) for determining the QDI. The texture index, SNR, and CFDS slope were all negatively correlated with high-density lipoprotein and positively correlated with other anthropometric indices and metabolic factors (all P < 0.05). The SNR had the greatest contribution to anthropometric and biochemical factors, followed by the texture index and CFDS slope. An increase in 1 unit of QDI score engendered a 9% higher risk of MetS, reflecting that the tool is feasible for use in identifying MetS (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve: 0.89). The QDI was correlated with metabolic factors and an independent predictor for MetS. Thus, this QDI might be a feasible method for use in clinical surveillance, epidemiology research, and metabolic function evaluations in patients with NAFLD.
