Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess pelvic floor muscle (PFM) strength and influencing factors among healthy women at different life stages. DESIGN Multicentre cross-sectional study. SETTING Fourteen hospitals in China. POPULATION A total of 5040 healthy women allocated to the following groups (with 1680 women per group): premenopausal nulliparous, premenopausal parous and postmenopausal. METHODS The PFM strength was evaluated by vaginal manometry. Multivariate logistic regression was used to determine the influencing factors for low PFM strength. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Maximum voluntary contraction pressure (MVCP). RESULTS The median MVCP values were 36, 35 and 35 cmH2 O in premenopausal nulliparous (aged 19-51 years), premenopausal parous (aged 22-61 years), and postmenopausal (aged 40-86 years) women, respectively. In the premenopausal nulliparous group, physical work (odds ratio, OR 2.05) was the risk factor for low PFM strength, which may be related to the chronic increased abdominal pressure caused by physical work. In the premenopausal parous group, the number of vaginal deliveries (OR 1.28) and diabetes (OR 2.70) were risk factors for low PFM strength, whereas sexual intercourse (<2 times per week vs. none, OR 0.55; ≥2 times per week vs. none, OR 0.56) and PFM exercise (OR 0.50) may have protective effects. In the postmenopausal group, the number of vaginal deliveries (OR 1.32) and family history of pelvic organ prolapse (POP) (OR 1.83) were risk factors for low PFM strength. CONCLUSIONS Physical work, vaginal delivery, diabetes and a family history of POP are all risk factors for low PFM strength, whereas PFM exercises and sexual life can have a protective effect. The importance of these factors varies at different stages of a woman's life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are common in women with multiple sclerosis. OBJECTIVE To investigate the impact of LUTS on pelvic floor muscle contraction, sexual function, and quality of life in women with multiple sclerosis. METHODS Thirty-nine women with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis were enrolled in this study. Participants were divided into the presence or not of LUTS. Assessments involved the Expanded Disability Status Scale score, the NEW PERFECT scheme, the Female Sexual Function Index, and the Qualiveen Questionnaire. Statistical procedures involved Student t-tests, chi-squared, and regression analyses (R2). RESULTS Nineteen women (48.7%) presented LUTS. Women with LUTS were in a more advanced stage of multiple sclerosis (p = .029), presented weaker pelvic muscle contraction (p = .009), less sexual function satisfaction (p = .018), and more limitations in the quality of life (p = .001) than women without LUTS. Regression analyses pointed out that the quality of life and sexual function of women with multiple sclerosis are affected by intercourse pain (R2 = 12.9) and perineal contraction force (R2 = 19.2). CONCLUSION LUTS affects pelvic floor muscle contraction, sexual function, and quality of life in women with multiple sclerosis. A multi-professional rehabilitation team should assist women with multiple sclerosis, taking special care of LUTS.

Abstract
Purpose To study the clinical application value of Modified Buzhong Yiqi Decoction in the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence (SUI). Methods A total of 103 female patients with SUI were included in this study, 13 were lost to follow-up, and the final number of studies was 90. General information about the patients, including age, years of menopause, body mass index (BMI), reproductive history, chronic respiratory disease, hypertension, and diabetes, were recorded. All the patients were treated with Modified Buzhong Yiqi Decoction alone for 4 weeks. The Patient Global Impression of Improvement (PGI-I), the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Urinary Incontinence Short Form (ICI-QSF) and 72-h voiding diary were used to evaluate the patients' subjective symptoms and urinary incontinence degree before treatment, 1 month after treatment and 1 year after treatment, the efficacy and efficacy-related factors of Modified Buzhong Yiqi Decoction in the treatment of female SUI were analyzed. Results One month after Modified Buzhong Yiqi Decoction treatment, compared with before treatment, the PGI-I questionnaire was very much better (68.89%), much better (8.89%), a little better (12.33%), no change (8.89%), the ICI-QSF score decreased (P < 0.05), and 72-h urine leakage frequency decreased (P < 0.05); One year after treatment compared with before treatment, the PGI-I questionnaire was very much better (40.00%), much better (17.78%), a little better (12.22%), no change (30.00%), the ICI-QSF score decreased (P < 0.05), and 72-h urine leakage frequency decreased (P < 0.05); and 1 year after treatment compared with 1 month after treatment, the ratio of very much better at 1 year after treatment was significantly decreased (P < 0.05), the score of the ICI-QSF was significantly increased (P < 0.05), and 72-h urine leakage frequency was significantly increased (P < 0.05). The correlation analysis showed that the efficacy at 1 month after treatment was negatively correlated with the severity of SUI and chronic respiratory diseases, but was not significantly correlated with age, menopause status, BMI, number of pregnancies, and number of births. The efficacy at 1 year after treatment was negatively correlated with the severity of SUI, chronic respiratory disease, age, and number of births and was positively correlated with BMI, but not significantly correlated with menopause status and number of pregnancies. Conclusion Modified Buzhong Yiqi Decoction can effectively treat SUI in women. The efficacy is related to the severity of SUI and chronic abdominal hypertension, but the long-term efficacy decreases.
