A New Fluorescent Turn-on Dual Interaction Position Probe for Determination of Hydrazine

Automated fluorimetric sensor for hydrazine determination in water samples based on the concept of zone fluidics

In the present study, we report an automated fluorescence sensor for the determination of hydrazine in various water samples based on the concept of zone fluidics. Hydrazine and O-phthalaldehyde react through a unique mechanism in acidic medium (pH = 1.5) and without the presence of additional nucleophilic compounds. Another interesting feature of the proposed reaction is that it is not based on the Red/Ox properties of hydrazine, enhancing further the selectivity of the analytical procedure. The produced hydrazone exhibits high fluorescence at Ex = 318/Em = 376 nm. Using 120 s as a stopped flow step and temperature of 70 °C, we achieved satisfactory sensitivity for the determination of the analyte at a microgram per liter level with a limit of detection of 1.4 μg L^-1 and an analysis rate of 12 h^-1. The absence of matrix effect enabled the direct analysis of drinking (tap, mineral, table) and boiler feedwater samples with percent recoveries in the range of 91-111%.

Anthranilic Acid Schiff Base as a Fluorescent Probe for the Detection of Arsenite and Selenite: A Detailed Investigation of Analytical Parameters and Mechanism for Interaction

The exploration of an anthranilic acid based Schiff base SB as a "Turn-ON" fluorescent probe for the detection of highly toxic selenite (Se^IV) and arsenite (As^III) species in an aqueous medium is described. The selectivity of SB towards Se^IV and As^III in the presence of other ions was investigated by some spectrofluorimetric and ¹H NMR spectroscopic experiments. The studies revealed the interaction between SB and As^III via the deprotonation of phenolic -OH, which enhanced the conjugation in phenolate ion and in turn enhanced the emission response. The SB has analytical prospects for the quantification of As^III and Se^IV with good sensitivity (LODs; 5.15 ppb for Se^IV and 3.12 ppb for As^III calculated by S/N = 3σ/K). Furthermore, it can be used to evaluate real and synthetic samples for the presence of Se^IV and As^III species as well as the fabrication of on-spot recognition devices (in the form of silica gels SB@SiO₂ and silica coated TLC aluminium strips SB@SiO₂@Al).

BODIPY-based Fluorescent Probe for the Detection of Cysteine in Living Cells

Cysteine (Cys), as one of the important amino acids, plays a vital role in various physiological and pathological processes. Hence, it is meaningful to develop a convenient and sensitive detection method. Herein, a novel BODIPY-based fluorescent probe (BDP-DM) was developed, which had a higher selectivity for Cys than other amino acids, including homocysteine (Hcy) and glutathione (GSH). Ultimately, we concluded that the BDP-DM probe could be used to successfully detected intracellular Cys in living HeLa cells.

Rapid and visual detection of folic acid via supramolecular recognition with a perylene bisimide probe in aqueous media

In this report, we have established a novel approach for the rapid detection of folic acid (FA) with a water soluble perylene bisimide-based probe in 100% aqueous media. The sensing performance and mechanism of this probe were investigated systematically using spectroscopic techniques. After optimizing conditions, the limit of detection in this assay is as low as 29.2 nmol/L and linear operation range is from 0.1 to 1.2 μmol/L. It relies on the supramolecular recognition between the probe and FA under the synergistic effects of non-covalent interactions such as electrostatic, hydrophobic and π-stacking interactions. Monitoring the FA concentrations in real-world samples is also confirmed.
