Abstract
A study on the synergistic extraction of Eu(III) ions with a series of chelating ligands and determination of the process parameters is presented by employing ionic liquids and typical organic diluents. The investigations of the liquid-liquid extraction, commonly applied in the separation science of 4f and 5f-ions acidic chelating compounds, 4-benzoyl-3-methyl-1-phenyl-2-pyrazolin-5-one (HP), 4-benzoyl-3-phenyl-5-isoxazolone (HPBI), and 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTTA) alone and in combination with two synergistic agents, meso-hexamethylpropyleneamine oxime (S2: HM-PAO) and its bis-imine precursor (S1: pre-HM-PAO), are presented. The interaction between the two extractants (acidic/neutral) in deuterochloroform was studied using 1H, 13C, and 1H-1H NOESY experiments. Several conclusions are given highlighting the role of the ionic diluent in complexation processes and selectivity with an employment of the two synergistic agents for various metal s-, p-, d-, and f-cations in the Periodic table, with almost 25 metal ions. The objective was to optimize a system for 4f-ions solvent extraction based on the new oxime molecules with β-diketone/isoxazolone/pyrazolone partnership. As detailed above, slight enhancements of extraction efficiencies were obtained either by using basic synergistic agents such as HM-PAO and/or using pre-HM-PAO. A competitive solvent extraction test of nearly 18 f-ions by various ligands (HTTA, S1, S2, and HPBI) and the two mixtures HTTA-S1 and HTTA-S2 diluted in ILs or organic diluents was also conducted in order to evaluate the switchable diluent impact. Additionally, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy was used to study the established chemical species with Cu2+ cations in the obtained organic extracts involving the two synergistic molecules.

Thenoyltrifluoroacetone: Preferable Molecule for Solvent Extraction of Metals—Ancient Twists to New Approaches. SEPARATIONS 2022. Abstract
A review of the investigations devoted to the solvent extraction processes of metal ions with a chelating ligand thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTTA) is presented herein. It seems that this molecule has been preferred in the field for more than half a century, and that it is used very often as an extractant for almost all metals. The main objective of the present review is also to provide an overview of the synergistic solvent extraction of lanthanoids, particularly with the use of a β-diketone−neutral mixture. Based on the previous published results in the open literature, the extraction efficiency has been examined in detail and discussed further mainly in terms of the corresponding equilibrium constants among other outlined, so-important parameters. Major conclusions on the role of ligating groups of extractants towards the mechanism, an improved extraction enhancement, and selectivity are additionally provided. The fact that ionic liquids (ILs) appear to be replacing volatile diluents in the field of the liquid–liquid extraction of metals, again with the participation of this β-diketone, is not surprising. As is well known, a very efficient and simple way to determine the stoichiometry of the extracted species in the organic phase is by the simple use of the slope analysis method; however, it is sometimes difficult to perform, either because it somehow requests good solubility of the ligand or because obtained slopes are quite often far from integer values in ILs.

Abstract
Methanation of carbon dioxide (CO2 ) is attractive within the context of a renewable energy refinery. Herein, we report an indirect methanation method that harnesses amino alcohols as relay molecules in combination with a catalyst comprising ruthenium nanoparticles (NPs) immobilized on a Lewis acidic and robust metal-organic framework (MOF). The Ru NPs are well dispersed on the surface of the MOF crystals and have a narrow size distribution. The catalyst efficiently transforms amino alcohols to oxazolidinones (upon reaction with CO2 ) and then to methane (upon reaction with hydrogen), simultaneously regenerating the amino alcohol relay molecule. This protocol provides a sustainable, indirect way for CO2 methanation as the process can be repeated multiple times.

Abstract
Novel triethoxysilane and dimethyl phosphonate functional vinylidene fluoride (VDF)-containing terpolymers, for potential applications in Eu ion extraction from water, were produced by conventional radical terpolymerization of VDF with vinyltriethoxylsilane (VTEOS) and vinyldimethylphosphonate (VDMP). Although initial attempts for the copolymerization of VTEOS and VDMP failed, the successful terpolymerization was initiated by peroxide to lead to multiple poly(VDF-ter-VDMP-ter-VTEOS) terpolymers, that had different molar percentages of VDF (70–90 mol.%), VTEOS (5–20 mol.%) and VDMP (10 mol.%) in 50–80% yields. The obtained terpolymers were characterized by 1H, 19F, 29Si and 31P NMR spectroscopies. The crosslinking of such resulting poly(VDF-ter-VDMP-ter-VTEOS) terpolymers was achieved by hydrolysis and condensation (sol–gel process) of the triethoxysilane groups in acidic media, to obtain a 3D network, which was analyzed by solid state 29Si and 31P NMR spectroscopies, TGA and DSC. The thermal stability of the terpolymers was moderately high (up to 300 °C under air), whereas they display a slight increase in their crystallinity-rate from 9.7% to 12.1% after crosslinking. Finally, the dimethyl phosphonate functions were hydrolyzed into phosphonic acid successfully, and the europium ion extraction capacity of terpolymer was studied. The results demonstrated a very high removal capacity of Eu(III) ions from water, up to a total removal at low concentrations.

Abstract
The distribution constants of 4-benzoyl-3-phenyl-5-isoxazolone (HPBI) and deprotonated one (PBI-) between hydrophobic ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide ([C1C4im][Tf2N]) and aqueous phases were determined, together with the acid-dissociation constant of HPBI. The solvent extraction of three selected lanthanoid ions (La3+, Eu3+, and Lu3+) with HPBI from aqueous nitrate phase into [C1C4im][Tf2N] has been investigated. Application of the ionic liquid as the extracting phase greatly enhanced the extraction performance of HPBI for lanthanoid ions compared with that in the chloroform system. A slope analysis was conducted in order to compare the results of the solution 4f-ion coordination chemistry in ionic and molecular media. The composition of the extracted species was established to be anionic tetrakis entities, Ln(PBI)4-, for light, middle, and heavy lanthanoid ions in an ionic environment (Ln denotes lanthanoid ion). Nevertheless, the typical neutral chelate lanthanoid complexes of the type Ln(PBI)3 have been detected when the conventional molecular diluent chloroform was applied as an organic phase.
