Application of Radiomics for Personalized Treatment of Cancer Patients

Clinical, Cultural, Computational, and Regulatory Considerations to Deploy AI in Radiology: Perspectives of RSNA and MICCAI Experts

The Radiological Society of North of America (RSNA) and the Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) Society have led a series of joint panels and seminars focused on the present impact and future directions of artificial intelligence (AI) in radiology. These conversations have collected viewpoints from multidisciplinary experts in radiology, medical imaging, and machine learning on the current clinical penetration of AI technology in radiology and how it is impacted by trust, reproducibility, explainability, and accountability. The collective points-both practical and philosophical-define the cultural changes for radiologists and AI scientists working together and describe the challenges ahead for AI technologies to meet broad approval. This article presents the perspectives of experts from MICCAI and RSNA on the clinical, cultural, computational, and regulatory considerations-coupled with recommended reading materials-essential to adopt AI technology successfully in radiology and, more generally, in clinical practice. The report emphasizes the importance of collaboration to improve clinical deployment, highlights the need to integrate clinical and medical imaging data, and introduces strategies to ensure smooth and incentivized integration. Role of radiomics as a predictor of disease recurrence in ovarian cancer: a systematic review

Ovarian cancer is associated with high cancer-related mortality rate attributed to late-stage diagnosis, limited treatment options, and frequent disease recurrence. As a result, careful patient selection is important especially in setting of radical surgery. Radiomics is an emerging field in medical imaging, which may help provide vital prognostic evaluation and help patient selection for radical treatment strategies. This systematic review aims to assess the role of radiomics as a predictor of disease recurrence in ovarian cancer. A systematic search was conducted in Medline, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases. Studies meeting inclusion criteria investigating the use of radiomics to predict post-operative recurrence in ovarian cancer were included in our qualitative analysis. Study quality was assessed using the QUADAS-2 and Radiomics Quality Score tools. Six retrospective studies met the inclusion criteria, involving a total of 952 participants. Radiomic-based signatures demonstrated consistent performance in predicting disease recurrence, as evidenced by satisfactory area under the receiver operating characteristic curve values (AUC range 0.77-0.89). Radiomic-based signatures appear to good prognosticators of disease recurrence in ovarian cancer as estimated by AUC. The reviewed studies consistently reported the potential of radiomic features to enhance risk stratification and personalise treatment decisions in this complex cohort of patients. Further research is warranted to address limitations related to feature reliability, workflow heterogeneity, and the need for prospective validation studies.

Prediction of High-Risk Neuroblastoma Among Neuroblastic Tumors Using Radiomics Features Derived from Magnetic Resonance Imaging: A Pilot Study

PURPOSE

This study aimed to predict high-risk neuroblastoma among neuroblastic tumors using radiomics features extracted from MRI.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Pediatric patients (age≤18 years) diagnosed with neuroblastic tumors who had pre-treatment MR images available were enrolled from institution A from January 2010 to November 2019 (training set) and institution B from January 2016 to January 2022 (test set). Segmentation was performed with regions of interest manually drawn along tumor margins on the slice with the widest tumor area by two radiologists. First-order and texture features were extracted and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were calculated. Multivariate logistic regression (MLR) and random forest (RF) models from 10-fold cross-validation were built using these features. The trained MLR and RF models were tested in an external test set.

RESULTS

Thirty-two patients (M:F=23:9, 26.0±26.7 months) were in the training set and 14 patients (M:F=10:4, 33.4±20.4 months) were in the test set with radiomics features (n=930) being extracted. For 10 of the most relevant features selected, intra- and inter-observer variability was moderate to excellent (ICCs 0.633-0.911, 0.695-0.985, respectively). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was 0.94 (sensitivity 67%, specificity 91%, and accuracy 84%) for the MLR model and the average AUC was 0.83 (sensitivity 44%, specificity 87%, and accuracy 75%) for the RF model from 10-fold cross-validation. In the test set, AUCs of the MLR and RF models were 0.94 and 0.91, respectively.

CONCLUSION

An MRI-based radiomics model can help predict high-risk neuroblastoma among neuroblastic tumors.

This review delineates the substantial growth in utilizing starch-based nanomaterials, elucidating their small size, high surface-volume ratio, and biocompatibility, predominantly emphasizing their possible to actively recognize cancer cells, deliver anticancer drugs, and combat tumors efficiently. The investigation of these nanomaterials encompasses to improving biocompatibility and targeting specific tissues, thereby contributing to the evolving landscape of precision medicine. The review accomplishes by highlighting the auspicious strategies and modern developments in the field, envisioning a future where starch-based nanomaterials play a transformative role in molecular nanomaterials, evolving biomedical sciences. The translation of these advancements into clinical applications holds the potential to revolutionize targeted drug delivery and expand therapeutic outcomes in the realm of precision medicine.

Exploring the efficacy of multi-flavored feature extraction with radiomics and deep features for prostate cancer grading on mpMRI

BACKGROUND

The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of radiomics and deep features obtained from multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) for grading prostate cancer. We propose a novel approach called multi-flavored feature extraction or tensor, which combines four mpMRI images using eight different fusion techniques to create 52 images or datasets for each patient. We evaluate the effectiveness of this approach in grading prostate cancer and compare it to traditional methods.

METHODS

We used the PROSTATEx-2 dataset consisting of 111 patients' images from T2W-transverse, T2W-sagittal, DWI, and ADC images. We used eight fusion techniques to merge T2W, DWI, and ADC images, namely Laplacian Pyramid, Ratio of the low-pass pyramid, Discrete Wavelet Transform, Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet Transform, Curvelet Transform, Wavelet Fusion, Weighted Fusion, and Principal Component Analysis. Prostate cancer images were manually segmented, and radiomics features were extracted using the Pyradiomics library in Python. We also used an Autoencoder for deep feature extraction. We used five different feature sets to train the classifiers: all radiomics features, all deep features, radiomics features linked with PCA, deep features linked with PCA, and a combination of radiomics and deep features. We processed the data, including balancing, standardization, PCA, correlation, and Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regression. Finally, we used nine classifiers to classify different Gleason grades.

RESULTS

Our results show that the SVM classifier with deep features linked with PCA achieved the most promising results, with an AUC of 0.94 and a balanced accuracy of 0.79. Logistic regression performed best when using only the deep features, with an AUC of 0.93 and balanced accuracy of 0.76. Gaussian Naive Bayes had lower performance compared to other classifiers, while KNN achieved high performance using deep features linked with PCA. Random Forest performed well with the combination of deep features and radiomics features, achieving an AUC of 0.94 and balanced accuracy of 0.76. The Voting classifiers showed higher performance when using only the deep features, with Voting 2 achieving the highest performance, with an AUC of 0.95 and balanced accuracy of 0.78.

CONCLUSION

Our study concludes that the proposed multi-flavored feature extraction or tensor approach using radiomics and deep features can be an effective method for grading prostate cancer. Our findings suggest that deep features may be more effective than radiomics features alone in accurately classifying prostate cancer.

Artificial intelligence to support person-centred care in breast imaging - A scoping review

AIM

To overview Artificial Intelligence (AI) developments and applications in breast imaging (BI) focused on providing person-centred care in diagnosis and treatment for breast pathologies.

METHODS

The scoping review was conducted in accordance with the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology. The search was conducted on MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, Web of science, IEEE explore and arxiv during July 2022 and included only studies published after 2016, in French and English. Combination of keywords and Medical Subject Headings terms (MeSH) related to breast imaging and AI were used. No keywords or MeSH terms related to patients, or the person-centred care (PCC) concept were included. Three independent reviewers screened all abstracts and titles, and all eligible full-text publications during a second stage.

RESULTS

3417 results were identified by the search and 106 studies were included for meeting all criteria. Six themes relating to the AI-enabled PCC in BI were identified: individualised risk prediction/growth and prediction/false negative reduction (44.3%), treatment assessment (32.1%), tumour type prediction (11.3%), unnecessary biopsies reduction (5.7%), patients' preferences (2.8%) and other issues (3.8%). The main BI modalities explored in the included studies were magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (31.1%), mammography (27.4%) and ultrasound (23.6%). The studies were predominantly retrospective, and some variations (age range, data source, race, medical imaging) were present in the datasets used.

CONCLUSIONS

The AI tools for person-centred care are mainly designed for risk and cancer prediction and disease management to identify the most suitable treatment. However, further studies are needed for image acquisition optimisation for different patient groups, improvement and customisation of patient experience and for communicating to patients the options and pathways of disease management.

Application of radiomics in precision prediction of diagnosis and treatment of gastric cancer

Gastric cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors. Although some progress has been made in chemotherapy and surgery, it is still one of the highest mortalities in the world. Therefore, early detection, diagnosis and treatment are very important to improve the prognosis of patients. In recent years, with the proposal of the concept of radiomics, it has been gradually applied to histopathological grading, differential diagnosis, therapeutic efficacy and prognosis evaluation of gastric cancer, whose advantage is to comprehensively quantify the tumor phenotype using a large number of quantitative image features, so as to predict and diagnose the lesion area of gastric cancer early. The purpose of this review is to evaluate the research status and progress of radiomics in gastric cancer, and reviewed the workflow and clinical application of radiomics. The 27 original studies on the application of radiomics in gastric cancer were included from web of science database search results from 2017 to 2021, the number of patients included ranged from 30 to 1680, and the models used were based on the combination of radiomics signature and clinical factors. Most of these studies showed positive results, the median radiomics quality score (RQS) for all studies was 36.1%, and the development prospect and challenges of radiomics development were prospected. In general, radiomics has great potential in improving the early prediction and diagnosis of gastric cancer, and provides an unprecedented opportunity for clinical practice to improve the decision support of gastric cancer treatment at a low cost.

Targeted Therapy and Personalized Medicine

Targeted therapy and personalized medicine are novel emerging disciplines of cancer research intended for treatment and prevention. One of the most significant advancements in modern oncology is the shift from an organ-centric strategy to a personalized strategy guided by deep molecular analysis. This shift in view, which focuses on the tumour's precise molecular changes, has paved the way for individualized treatment. Researchers and clinicians are using targeted therapies to select the best treatment available based on the molecular characterization of malignant cancer. In the treatment of a cancer, personalized medicine entails the use of genetic, immunological, and proteomic profiling to provide therapeutic alternatives as well as prognostic information about cancer. In this book, targeted therapies and personalized medicine have been covered for specific malignancies, including latest FDA-approved targeted therapies and it also sheds light on effective anti-cancer regimens and drug resistance. This will help to enhance our ability to conduct individualized health planning, make early diagnoses, and choose optimal medications for each cancer patient with predictable side effects and outcomes in a quickly evolving era. Various applications and tools' capacity have been improved for early diagnosis of cancer and the growing number of clinical trials that choose specific molecular targets reflects this predicament. Nevertheless, there are several limitations that must need to be addressed. Hence, in this chapter, we will discuss recent advancements, challenges, and opportunities in personalized medicine for various cancers, with a specific emphasis on target therapies in diagnostics and therapeutics.

Reproducibility of lung cancer radiomics features extracted from data-driven respiratory gating and free-breathing flow imaging in [18F]-FDG PET/CT

Background

Quality and reproducibility of radiomics studies are essential requirements for the standardisation of radiomics models. As recent data-driven respiratory gating (DDG) [¹⁸F]-FDG has shown superior diagnostic performance in lung cancer, we evaluated the impact of DDG on the reproducibility of radiomics features derived from [¹⁸F]-FDG PET/CT in comparison to free-breathing flow (FB) imaging.

Methods

Twenty four lung nodules from 20 patients were delineated. Radiomics features were derived on FB flow PET/CT and on the corresponding DDG reconstruction using the QuantImage v2 platform. Lin’s concordance factor (C_b) and the mean difference percentage (DIFF%) were calculated for each radiomics feature using the delineated nodules which were also classified by anatomical localisation and volume. Non-reproducible radiomics features were defined as having a bias correction factor C_b  < 0.8 and/or a mean difference percentage DIFF% > 10.

Results

In total 141 features were computed on each concordance analysis, 10 of which were non-reproducible on all pulmonary lesions. Those were first-order features from Laplacian of Gaussian (LoG)-filtered images (sigma = 1 mm): Energy, Kurtosis, Minimum, Range, Root Mean Squared, Skewness and Variance; Texture features from Gray Level Cooccurence Matrix (GLCM): Cluster Prominence and Difference Variance; First-order Standardised Uptake Value (SUV) feature: Kurtosis. Pulmonary lesions located in the superior lobes had only stable radiomics features, the ones from the lower parts had 25 non-reproducible radiomics features. Pulmonary lesions with a greater size (defined as long axis length > median) showed a higher reproducibility (9 non-reproducible features) than smaller ones (20 non-reproducible features).

Conclusion

Calculated on all pulmonary lesions, 131 out of 141 radiomics features can be used interchangeably between DDG and FB PET/CT acquisitions. Radiomics features derived from pulmonary lesions located inferior to the superior lobes are subject to greater variability as well as pulmonary lesions of smaller size.

Impact of Interobserver Variability in Manual Segmentation of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) Applying Low-Rank Radiomic Representation on Computed Tomography

Simple Summary

Discovery of predictive and prognostic radiomic features in cancer is currently of great interest to the radiologic and oncologic community. Tumor phenotypic and prognostic information can be obtained by extracting features on tumor segmentations, and it is typically imaging analysts, physician trainees, and attending physicians who provide these labeled datasets for analysis. The potential impact of level and type of specialty training on interobserver variability in manual segmentation of NSCLC was examined. Although there was some variability in segmentation between readers, the subsequently extracted radiomic features were overall well correlated. High fidelity radiomic feature extraction relies on accurate feature extraction from imaging that produce robust prognostic and predictive radiomic NSCLC biomarkers. This study concludes that this goal can be obtained using segmenters of different levels of training and clinical experience.

Abstract

This study tackles interobserver variability with respect to specialty training in manual segmentation of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Four readers included for segmentation are: a data scientist (BY), a medical student (LS), a radiology trainee (MH), and a specialty-trained radiologist (SK) for a total of 293 patients from two publicly available databases. Sørensen–Dice (SD) coefficients and low rank Pearson correlation coefficients (CC) of 429 radiomics were calculated to assess interobserver variability. Cox proportional hazard (CPH) models and Kaplan-Meier (KM) curves of overall survival (OS) prediction for each dataset were also generated. SD and CC for segmentations demonstrated high similarities, yielding, SD: 0.79 and CC: 0.92 (BY-SK), SD: 0.81 and CC: 0.83 (LS-SK), and SD: 0.84 and CC: 0.91 (MH-SK) in average for both databases, respectively. OS through the maximal CPH model for the two datasets yielded c-statistics of 0.7 (95% CI) and 0.69 (95% CI), while adding radiomic and clinical variables (sex, stage/morphological status, and histology) together. KM curves also showed significant discrimination between high- and low-risk patients (p-value < 0.005). This supports that readers’ level of training and clinical experience may not significantly influence the ability to extract accurate radiomic features for NSCLC on CT. This potentially allows flexibility in the training required to produce robust prognostic imaging biomarkers for potential clinical translation.

Evaluation of the Risk of Recurrence in Patients with Local Advanced Rectal Tumours by Different Radiomic Analysis Approaches

The word radiomics, like all domains of type omics, assumes the existence of a large amount of data. Using artificial intelligence, in particular, different machine learning techniques, is a necessary step for better data exploitation. Classically, researchers in this field of radiomics have used conventional machine learning techniques (random forest, for example). More recently, deep learning, a subdomain of machine learning, has emerged. Its applications are increasing, and the results obtained so far have demonstrated their remarkable effectiveness. Several previous studies have explored the potential applications of radiomics in colorectal cancer. These potential applications can be grouped into several categories like evaluation of the reproducibility of texture data, prediction of response to treatment, prediction of the occurrence of metastases, and prediction of survival. Few studies, however, have explored the potential of radiomics in predicting recurrence-free survival. In this study, we evaluated and compared six conventional learning models and a deep learning model, based on MRI textural analysis of patients with locally advanced rectal tumours, correlated with the risk of recidivism; in traditional learning, we compared 2D image analysis models vs. 3D image analysis models, models based on a textural analysis of the tumour versus models taking into account the peritumoural environment in addition to the tumour itself. In deep learning, we built a 16-layer convolutional neural network model, driven by a 2D MRI image database comprising both the native images and the bounding box corresponding to each image.

A Review of Radiomics and Deep Predictive Modeling in Glioma Characterization

Recent developments in glioma categorization based on biological genotypes and application of computational machine learning or deep learning based predictive models using multi-modal MRI biomarkers to assess these genotypes provides potential assurance for optimal and personalized treatment plans and efficacy. Artificial intelligence based quantified assessment of glioma using MRI derived hand-crafted or auto-extracted features have become crucial as genomic alterations can be associated with MRI based phenotypes. This survey integrates all the recent work carried out in state-of-the-art radiomics, and Artificial Intelligence based learning solutions related to molecular diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment monitoring with the aim to create a structured resource on radiogenomic analysis of glioma. Challenges such as inter-scanner variability, requirement of benchmark datasets, prospective validations for clinical applicability are discussed with further scope for designing optimal solutions for glioma stratification with immediate recommendations for further diagnostic decisions and personalized treatment plans for glioma patients.

Ki-67 as a Prognostic Biomarker in Invasive Breast Cancer

The advent of molecular medicine has transformed breast cancer management. Breast cancer is now recognised as a heterogenous disease with varied morphology, molecular features, tumour behaviour, and response to therapeutic strategies. These parameters are underpinned by a combination of genomic and immunohistochemical tumour factors, with estrogen receptor (ER) status, progesterone receptor (PgR) status, human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 (HER2) status, Ki-67 proliferation indices, and multigene panels all playing a contributive role in the substratification, prognostication and personalization of treatment modalities for each case. The expression of Ki-67 is strongly linked to tumour cell proliferation and growth and is routinely evaluated as a proliferation marker. This review will discuss the clinical utility, current pitfalls, and promising strategies to augment Ki-67 proliferation indices in future breast oncology.

Integrative radiogenomics analysis for predicting molecular features and survival in clear cell renal cell carcinoma

Objectives: To assess the feasibility of predicting molecular characteristics by computed tomography (CT) radiomics features, and predicting overall survival (OS) using combination of omics data in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC).

Methods: Genetic data of 207 ccRCC patients was retrieved from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and matched contrast-enhanced CT images were obtained from The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA). Another cohort of 175 ccRCC patients from West China Hospital was used as external validation. We first applied radiomics features and machine learning algorithms to predict genetic mutations and mRNA-based molecular subtypes. Next, we established predictive models for OS based on single omics, combined omics (radiomics+genomics, radiomics+transcriptomics, radiomics+proteomics) and all features (multi-omics).

Results: Using radiomics features, random forest algorithm showed good capacity to identify the mutations VHL (AUC=0.971), BAP1 (AUC=0.955), PBRM1 (AUC=0.972), SETD2 (AUC=0.949), and molecular subtypes m1 (AUC=0.973), m2 (AUC=0.968), m3 (AUC=0.961), m4 (AUC=0.953). The TCGA cohort was divided into training (n=104) and validation (n=103) sets. The radiomics model had promising prognostic value for OS in validation set (5-year AUC=0.775) and external validation set (5-year AUC=0.755). In the validation set, the radiomics+omics models enhanced predictive accuracy than single-omics models, and the multi-omics model made further improvement (5-year AUC=0.846). High-risk group of validation set predicted by multi-omics model showed significantly poorer OS (HR=6.20, 95%CI: 3.19-8.44, p<0.0001).

Conclusions: CT radiomics might be a feasible approach to predict genetic mutations, molecular subtypes and OS in ccRCC patients. Integrative analysis of radiogenomics may improve the survival prediction of ccRCC patients.

Identification of marker genes and cell subtypes in castration-resistant prostate cancer cells

The diverse tumor cell populations may be the critical roles in relapse and resistance to treatment in prostate cancer patients. This study aimed to identify new marker genes and cell subtypes among castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) cells. We downloaded single-cell RNA seq profiles (GSE67980) from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Principal component (PC) analysis and t-Distributed Stochastic Neighbor Embedding (TSNE) analysis were performed to identify marker genes. CRPC cells were clustered and annotated. GO and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses among marker genes were performed. A total of 1500 genes with larger standardized variance were obtained. The top 20 genes were demonstrated in each identified 20 PCs. PC with P-value < 0.05 was selected, including PC1, PC7, PC8, and PC14. The TSNE analysis classified cells as two clusters. The top 6 genes in cluster 0 included HBB, CCL5, SLITRK4, GZMB, BBIP1, and PF4V1. Plus, the top 6 genes in cluster 1 included MLEC, CCT8, CCT3, EPCAM, TMPRSS2, EIF4G2. The GO analysis revealed that these marker genes were mainly enriched in RNA catabolic process, translational initiation, mitochondrial inner membrane, cytosolic part, ribosome, cell adhesion molecule binding, cadherin binding, and structural constituent of ribosome. The KEGG analysis showed that these marker genes mainly enriched in metabolism associated pathways, including carbon metabolism, cysteine and methionine metabolism, propanoate metabolism, pyruvate metabolism, and citrate cycle pathways. To conclude, our results provide essential insights into the spectrum of cellular heterogeneity within human CRPC cells. These marker genes, GO terms and pathways may be critical in the development and progression of human CRPC.

Potentials and caveats of AI in hybrid imaging

State-of-the-art patient management frequently mandates the investigation of both anatomy and physiology of the patients. Hybrid imaging modalities such as the PET/MRI, PET/CT and SPECT/CT have the ability to provide both structural and functional information of the investigated tissues in a single examination. With the introduction of such advanced hardware fusion, new problems arise such as the exceedingly large amount of multi-modality data that requires novel approaches of how to extract a maximum of clinical information from large sets of multi-dimensional imaging data. Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as one of the leading technologies that has shown promise in facilitating highly integrative analysis of multi-parametric data. Specifically, the usefulness of AI algorithms in the medical imaging field has been heavily investigated in the realms of (1) image acquisition and reconstruction, (2) post-processing and (3) data mining and modelling. Here, we aim to provide an overview of the challenges encountered in hybrid imaging and discuss how AI algorithms can facilitate potential solutions. In addition, we highlight the pitfalls and challenges in using advanced AI algorithms in the context of hybrid imaging and provide suggestions for building robust AI solutions that enable reproducible and transparent research.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Based Systems Biology Approaches in Multi-Omics Data Analysis of Cancer

Cancer is the manifestation of abnormalities of different physiological processes involving genes, DNAs, RNAs, proteins, and other biomolecules whose profiles are reflected in different omics data types. As these bio-entities are very much correlated, integrative analysis of different types of omics data, multi-omics data, is required to understanding the disease from the tumorigenesis to the disease progression. Artificial intelligence (AI), specifically machine learning algorithms, has the ability to make decisive interpretation of "big"-sized complex data and, hence, appears as the most effective tool for the analysis and understanding of multi-omics data for patient-specific observations. In this review, we have discussed about the recent outcomes of employing AI in multi-omics data analysis of different types of cancer. Based on the research trends and significance in patient treatment, we have primarily focused on the AI-based analysis for determining cancer subtypes, disease prognosis, and therapeutic targets. We have also discussed about AI analysis of some non-canonical types of omics data as they have the capability of playing the determiner role in cancer patient care. Additionally, we have briefly discussed about the data repositories because of their pivotal role in multi-omics data storing, processing, and analysis.

A Non-invasive Method to Diagnose Lung Adenocarcinoma

Purpose: To find out the CT radiomics features of differentiating lung adenocarcinoma from another lung cancer histological type. Methods: This was a historical cohort study, three independent lung cancer cohorts included. One cohort was used to evaluate the stability of radiomics features, one cohort was used to feature selection, and the last was used to construct and evaluate classification models. The research is divided into four steps: region of interest segmentation, feature extraction, feature selection, and model building and validation. The feature selection methods included the intraclass correlation coefficient, ReliefF coefficient, and Partition-Membership filter. The performance metrics of the classification model included accuracy (Acc), precision (Pre), area under curve (AUC), and kappa statistics. Results: The 10 features (First order shape features: Sphericity and Compacity, Gray-Level Run Length Matrix: Short-Run Emphasis, Low Gray-level Run Emphasis, and High Gray-level Run Emphasis, Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix: Homogeneity, Energy, Contrast, Correlation, and Dissimilarity) showed the most stable and classification capability. The 6 classifiers, Logistic regression classifier (LR), Sequence Minimum Optimization algorithm, Random Forest, KStar, Naive Bayes and Random Committee, have great performance both on the train and the test sets, and especially LR has the best performance on the test set (Acc = 98.72, Pre = 0.988, AUC = 1, and kappa = 0.974). Conclusion: Lung adenocarcinoma can be identified based on CT radiomics features. We can diagnose lung adenocarcinoma with CT non-invasively.
