Synthesizing and Optimizing Rutile TiO2 Nanoparticles for Magnetically Guided Drug Delivery

FericipXT-coated PEGylated rutile TiO2 nanoparticles in drug delivery: in vitro assessment of imatinib release

This study presents a facile synthesis strategy for magnetic field-responsive PEGylated iron-supplement-coated rutile titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles (NPs) for stimulus-responsive drug delivery. Imatinib, an anticancer drug, was successfully loaded into NPs, and its in vitro release was investigated under different pH conditions. XRD analysis confirmed the successful synthesis of PEGylated iron supplement-coated rutile titania NPs. HR-TEM studies revealed an increased NP size due to the coating, PEGylation, and drug loading, which was corroborated by FTIR spectra, confirming the drug loading into the NPs. DLS provided a hydrodynamic diameter of 642.2 nm and polydispersity index of 0.277 for PEGylated NPs, indicating their enhanced biodistribution and narrow size distribution. PEGylated NPs exhibited a negative zeta potential of -32.89 mV, indicating high stability. In vitro drug-release studies demonstrated controlled release with maximum efficiency under acidic conditions. Hemolysis assay confirmed the safety and biocompatibility of PEGylated NPs. All drug-loaded nanoformulations followed the Peppas-Sahlin model, suggesting Fickian diffusion and Case II relaxation mechanism of drug release. These NPs have the potential for the targeted delivery and controlled release of chemotherapeutics, thereby minimizing side effects.

Revolutionizing eye care: the game-changing applications of nano-antioxidants in ophthalmology

Since the theory of free radical-induced aging was proposed in 1956, it has been constantly proven that reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced by oxidative stress play a vital role in the occurrence and progression of eye diseases. However, the inherent limitations of traditional drug therapy hindered the development of ophthalmic disease treatment. In recent years, great achievements have been made in the research of nanomedicine, which promotes the rapid development of safe theranostics in ophthalmology. In this review, we focus on the applications of antioxidant nanomedicine in the treatment of ophthalmology. The eye diseases were mainly classified into two categories: ocular surface diseases and posterior eye diseases. In each part, we first introduced the pathology of specific diseases about oxidative stress, and then presented the representative application examples of nano-antioxidants in eye disease therapy. Meanwhile, the nanocarriers that were used, the mechanism of function, and the therapeutic effect were also presented. Finally, we summarized the latest research progress and limitations of antioxidant nanomedicine for eye disease treatment and put forward the prospects of future development.

Exploring synthesis and applications of green nanoparticles and the role of nanotechnology in wastewater treatment

Current research endeavours are progressively focussing towards discovering sustainable methods for synthesising eco-friendly materials. In this environment, nanotechnology has emerged as a key frontier, especially in bioremediation and biotechnology. A few areas of nanotechnology including membrane technology, sophisticated oxidation processes, and biosensors. It is possible to create nanoparticles (NPs) via physical, chemical, or biological pathways in a variety of sizes and forms. These days, the investigation of plants as substitutes for NP synthesis methods has drawn a lot of interest. Toxic water contaminants such as methyl blue have been shown to be removed upto 70% by nanoparticles. In our article, we aimed at focussing the environmental sustainability and cost-effectiveness towards the green synthesis of nanoparticles. Furthermore it offers a comprehensive thorough summary of green NP synthesis methods which can be distinguished by their ease of use, financial sustainability, and environmentally favourable utilization of plant extracts. This study highlights how green synthesis methods have the potential to transform manufacturing of NPs while adhering to environmental stewardship principles and resource efficiency.

Biomimetic Boron Nitride Nanoparticles for Targeted Drug Delivery and Enhanced Antitumor Activity

Boron nitride nanomaterials are being increasingly recognized as vehicles for cancer drug delivery that increase drug loading and control drug release because of their excellent physicochemical properties and biocompatibility. However, these nanoparticles are often cleared rapidly by the immune system and have poor tumor targeting effects. As a result, biomimetic nanotechnology has emerged to address these challenges in recent times. Cell-derived biomimetic carriers have the characteristics of good biocompatibility, long circulation time, and strong targeting ability. Here, we report a biomimetic nanoplatform (CM@BN/DOX) prepared by encapsulating boron nitride nanoparticles (BN) and doxorubicin (DOX) together using cancer cell membrane (CCM) for targeted drug delivery and tumor therapy. The CM@BN/DOX nanoparticles (NPs) were able to target cancer cells of the same type on its own initiative through homologous targeting of cancer cell membranes. This led to a remarkable increase in cellular uptake. In vitro simulation of an acidic tumor microenvironment could effectively promote drug release from CM@BN/DOX. Furthermore, the CM@BN/DOX complex exhibited an excellent inhibitory effect against homotypic cancer cells. These findings suggest that CM@BN/DOX are promising in targeted drug delivery and potentially personalized therapy against their homologous tumor.
