Abstract
Purpose Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a common metabolic disorder with negative impacts on brain functions. Social cognition and vicarious experience impairments are features of DM. This research aimed to estimate the social cognition and vicarious experience among Jordanian people with diabetes. Patients and Methods Cognitive abilities were assessed using the Vicarious Pain Questionnaire (VPQ) and the Mirror Touch Questionnaire (MTQ). Data on disease history, medications, routine laboratory measurements, and anthropometric indices. Results Patients had lower pain responses and intensity scores, and higher unpleasantness scores than the control group (p < 0.05). Most of the VPQ and MTQ measures were mainly impaired among study participants who had higher education, were not practicing exercises, and were not consuming healthy diets (p < 0.05). The number of responses to the VPQ and average pain intensity were negatively correlated with age and positively correlated with both the serum aminotransferase (AST) concentration and the serum urea concentration (p < 0.05). The average unpleasantness score was positively correlated with the duration of therapy, serum creatinine, and albumin concentrations (p < 0.05). The final regression models for the number of pain responses and localized-generalized included group, practicing exercise, and AST, while the model for the average pain intensity included only the grouping variable. The model for average unpleasantness included grouping, AST, Albumin, consuming a healthy diet, and duration of therapy. Conclusion The Jordanian diabetic patients who participated in the study had impaired social cognition and vicarious experience. A healthy lifestyle had a significant effect on the scores of the vicarious experience in addition to the level of education. Despite being the first study in Jordan to assess vicarious experience in DM, further studies are needed considering imaging and electrophysiological workup. Besides, further prospective studies are needed to determine the significance of the current study.

Abstract
Background The prevalence of type 2 diabetes is increasing with the burden disproportionately falling on older adults and racial/ethnic minorities. Older adults with diabetes show greater cognitive decline and there are disparities in cognitive function by race/ethnicity that can be explained by social determinants such as wealth. Objective To understand whether there is a differential relationship between wealth and cognitive function by race/ethnicity among older U.S. adults with diabetes. Methods Data on 9,006 adults aged 50+ with diabetes from the Health and Retirement Study (2006-2016) were analyzed. The primary outcome, cognitive function, was a score ranging from range 0-27 categorized as: normal [12-27], mild cognitive impairment (MCI) [7-11], and dementia including Alzheimer's disease [0-6]. Three modeled outcomes were: 1) normal versus MCI, 2) normal versus dementia, 3) MCI versus dementia. Wealth was log transformed and used as continuous and binary (≥median, Results In adjusted models, greater wealth was significantly associated with lower odds of MCI and dementia for all groups. Similarly, having wealth less than the sample median was associated with higher odds of MCI and dementia compared to wealth≥sample median. Conclusions Increased wealth was significantly protective against MCI and dementia for all ethnic groups. Wealth less than the sample median was associated with greater odds of dementia for NHB and NHW.

Abstract
Cognitive impairment in individuals with diabetes represents a multifaceted and increasingly prevalent health concern. This review critically examines the current evidence regarding the intricate relationship between diabetes and cognitive decline. It highlights the existing knowledge on the impact of diabetes on cognitive function, spanning from mild cognitive impairment to dementia, including vascular and Alzheimer dementia. The review underscores the need for a standardized diagnostic paradigm and explores research gaps, such as the implications of cognitive impairment in younger populations and various diabetes types. Furthermore, this review emphasizes the relevance of diabetes-related comorbidities, including hypertension and dyslipidemia, in influencing cognitive decline. It advocates for a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach, integrating insights from neuroscience, endocrinology, and immunology to elucidate the mechanistic underpinnings of diabetes-related cognitive impairment. The second part of this review outlines prospective research directions and opportunities. It advocates for longitudinal studies to understand disease progression better and identifies critical windows of vulnerability. The search for accurate biomarkers and predictive factors is paramount, encompassing genetic and epigenetic considerations. Personalized approaches and tailored interventions are essential in addressing the substantial variability in cognitive outcomes among individuals with diabetes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The cognitive function of people with diabetes has gained an increasing interest in recent years, and this study focuses on exploring the relationship between undiagnosed diabetes and cognitive function among the middle-aged and elderly people in China. METHODS The data came from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) which was conducted between July and October 2015. 9855 subjects were enrolled in the study. Executive function and episodic memory were used to assess cognitive function. The subjects were divided into three groups: no diabetes, diagnosed diabetes, and undiagnosed diabetes, and weighted multiple linear regression models were established to evaluate the association of undiagnosed diabetes with cognitive function. RESULTS After controlling for covariates, undiagnosed diabetes was statistically associated with executive function (β = -0.215, P < 0.01). In the age group of ≥65 years, undiagnosed diabetes was statistically associated with executive function (β = -0.358, P < 0.01) and episodic memory (β = -0.356, P < 0.01). When adjusting for confounders, no statistically significant associations were found between diagnosed diabetes and cognitive function except in 45-54 age group (β = 0.374, P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The cross-sectional study suggested that undiagnosed diabetes was linked to poor cognitive function, especially in the elderly population. Timely diagnosis and active treatment of diabetes are important to reduce the occurrence of cognitive impairment. Further prospective cohort studies are required to articulate the association between undiagnosed diabetes and cognitive function.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the diagnosis of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome and analyze the risk factors of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS 141 T2DM patients, who were hospitalized in department of endocrinology of our hospital from February 2020 to December 2020, were chosen as research subjects. The patients were divided into an observation group (n=65, T2DM with MCI) and a control group (n=76, T2DM with normal cognitive function) according to the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) score and diagnostic criteria of MCI. Pearson correlation analysis was used to study the correlation between MoCA score and influencing factors, and multiple logistic regression analyses were applied to analyze the risk factors of T2DM patients. RESULTS Deficiency of kidney essence (34/65, 52.31%) and phlegm obstructing orifices (16/65, 2.62%) were common in T2DM patients with MCI. The observation group had apparently lower MoCA scores than the control group (23.46±3.12 points vs. 27.39±2.56 points, t=8.2150, P=0.0000). According to the results of multivariate logistic regression analysis, age, course of diabetes, homocysteine (HCY) and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbAlc) were the independent risk factors of MCI, and the education level was a protective factor. CONCLUSION Mental deficiency and phlegm obstruction are common in T2DM patients complicated with MCI. The factors such as age, diabetes course, education degree, HCY and HbAlc are closely related to MCI. The occurrence of MCI in T2DM patients can be prevented by improving the education degree of patients, effective control of blood glucose and reduction of HCY level.

Abstract
Background Neuropathic pain is a complicated phenomenon in patients with diabetes. These patients have many problems, especially depression and Sleep disturbance. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy on depression and Sleep disturbance in patients with painful diabetic neuropathy. Methods The current paper was conducted according to the clinical trial method with 50 participants. Participants were separated into intervention and control groups randomly. Based on the diagnosis of neurologists, all participants received standard medications to regulate neuropathic pain. The intervention group received ACT for eight sessions. The results were evaluated in the pre-test, post-test, and follow-up. The tools used were the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) and Beck's depression inventory. Statistical analysis includes descriptive statistics, and repeated-measures (ANOVA) conducted by SPSS (version 26) software. Results: Results showed that in the intervention group, the treatment led to improved depressive symptoms (F = 6.81, P < 0.05). Besides, for sleep quality, treatment in all subscales, except for the Hypnotic medicine subscale, significantly improved the intervention group's situations. It was also observed that the overall quality of sleep in the ACT group showed a more significant improvement (P < 0.05). All the above results remained the same until the end of the follow-up period (P < 0.05). Conclusion ACT, as a complementary treatment, can improve the psychiatric symptoms and problems in people with neuropathic pain. Therefore, it is necessary to include psychotherapy services along with medical treatment in outpatient and hospitalization units. Trial registration number IRCT201802050388630N4.
