Abstract
Cavernous angiomas (CAs) are benign vascular malformations predominantly seen in the brain parenchyma and therefore referred to as intra-axial. Extra-axial dural-based cavernous angiomas, on the other hand, are rare vascular lesions found outside of the brain parenchyma. They occur in the middle fossa and may be easily misdiagnosed as meningiomas due to their extra-axial location. In addition, CAs that are located outside the middle fossa, such as in the convexity, have a better prognosis since they are more surgically accessible. Surgical resection is the main treatment of choice in CAs. However, other options, such as embolization and radiotherapy, may also be considered therapeutic choices or additive treatment options. The pathogenesis of CA and the involvement of other factors (genetics or environmental factors) are still unknown and require further investigation. We are presenting a young man who presented for evaluation of seizure-like events without any family history of neurologic conditions. The physical examination was unremarkable except for a slightly antalgic gait. Imaging studies showed an extra-axial left tentorial mass suggestive of a meningioma, hemangiopericytoma, or other extra-axial lesions. The lesion was resected where its vascular nature was mentioned initially, and the histology proved the diagnosis of cavernous angioma. Here we give an overview of the known pathogenesis, causes, clinical features, and diagnostic and therapeutic options in CA. Better knowledge about CA, its causes, clinical features, and treatment options would help clinicians in early diagnosis and patient management.

Abstract
The International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies (ISSVA) has defined four vascular lesions in the central nervous system (CNS): arteriovenous malformations, cavernous angiomas (also known as cerebral cavernous malformations), venous malformations, and telangiectasias. From a retrospective central radiological and histopathological review of 202 CNS vascular lesions, we identified three cases of unclassified vascular lesions. Interestingly, they shared the same radiological and histopathological features evoking the cavernous subtype of angioleiomyomas described in the soft tissue. We grouped them together with four additional similar cases from our clinicopathological network and performed combined molecular analyses. In addition, cases were compared with a cohort of 5 soft tissue angioleiomyomas. Three out 6 CNS lesions presented the same p.Gly41Cys GJA4 mutation recently reported in hepatic hemangiomas and cutaneous venous malformations and found in 4/5 soft tissue angioleiomyomas of our cohort with available data. Most DNA methylation profiles were not classifiable using the CNS brain tumor (version 12.5), and sarcoma (version 12.2) classifiers. However, using unsupervised t-SNE analysis and hierarchical clustering analysis, 5 of the 6 lesions grouped together and formed a distinct epigenetic group, separated from the clusters of soft tissue angioleiomyomas, other vascular tumors, inflammatory myofibroblastic tumors and meningiomas. Our extensive literature review identified several cases similar to these lesions, with a wide variety of denominations. Based on radiological and histomolecular findings, we suggest the new terminology of "dural angioleiomyomas" (DALM) to designate these lesions characterized by a distinct DNA methylation pattern and frequent GJA4 mutations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cavernous sinus hemangiomas (CSHs) are rare vascular tumors. Stereotactic radiosurgery is an effective treatment for small CSHs. The optimal treatment for giant CSHs is controversial. This study reports advantages of a complete intradural transcavernous approach in total resection of CSHs. METHODS Between January 2012 and January 2017, 15 patients with giant CSHs were treated surgically. All cases were evaluated with a contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging scan and confirmed histopathologically. A complete intradural approach was used for all patients. Clinical manifestations, radiographic characteristics, operative techniques, and outcomes of patients were analyzed. RESULTS Headache was the most common initial symptom, followed by decreased visual acuity and diplopia. Postoperative magnetic resonance imaging showed that gross total resection was achieved in 13 patients. Two patients had experienced total ipsilateral visual loss for several years before surgery; vision improved in all remaining patients with preoperative visual diminution. The most common early neurologic deficit was cranial nerve VI dysfunction, which was observed in 9 patients (60%; 5 new deficits). Only 2 patients (13.3%) experienced permanent morbidity on long-term follow-up. The early postoperative morbidity rate for cranial nerve III dysfunction was 33.3% (5 patients), and only 1 patient (6.7%) experienced permanent morbidity. Four patients (26.7%) had slight postoperative facial numbness. CONCLUSIONS Surgical total resection is the primary and reasonable choice for giant CSHs. Microsurgical resection of giant CSHs through a completely intradural transcavernous approach is an alternative treatment option for giant CSHs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the safety and efficacy of SRS treatment of central neurocytomas (CNCs), cavernous sinus hemangiomas (CSHs), and glomus tumors (GTs); and to compare upfront stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and adjuvant SRS in the treatment of these hypervascular tumors. METHODS This was a retrospective review of consecutive CNCs, CSHs, and GTs treated with SRS between 1993 and 2017. Tumor response was categorized based on volumetric analysis on magnetic resonance imaging: (1) tumor regression [> 10% decrease in tumor volume (TV)]; (2) stable tumor (≤ 10% change in TV); or (3) tumor progression (> 10% increase in TV). RESULTS Sixty hypervascular tumors (CNC: 28; CSH: 16; GT: 16) underwent SRS between 1993 and 2017. Margin doses were 13 Gy, 12 Gy, and 14 Gy for CNCs, CSHs, and GTs, respectively. Tumor regression was observed in 54 tumors (90%) with initial SRS after a median follow-up of 82 months. Relative reductions in TVs for CNCs were 38%, 52%, and 73% at 12, 24, and 48 months, respectively. Relative reductions in TVs for CSHs were 51%, 68%, and 88% at 12, 24, and 48 months, respectively. Relative reductions in TVs for GTs were 22%, 31%, and 47% at 12, 24, and 48 months, respectively. Upfront SRS was performed in 26 patients (43%). No difference in relative TV reductions were found between upfront and adjuvant SRS. Adverse radiation effects were observed in five patients. No mortality was encountered. CONCLUSION SRS for hypervascular tumors is associated with high rates of tumor regression with low risk of complications. No significant difference in rates of relative TV reduction were found between upfront and adjuvant SRS. Hence, upfront SRS may be considered in select patients.

Abstract
Extra-axial cavernous hemangiomas (ECH) are rare vascular lesions with a tendency to grow within the medial structures of the middle cranial fossa. This pathological entity lacks specific symptoms, and falls into the category of differential diagnosis of space occupying lesions in the cavernous sinus (CS) with or without sellar involvement, including those of tumoral, vascular and inflammatory nature. Of note, ECH can also be indolent, and is at times discovered incidentally during autopsy investigations. On radiological studies, ECH with sellar extension are frequently mistaken at first for pituitary adenomas. Total removal of intrasellar-CS ECH is technically demanding and burdened by remarkable morbidity and mortality rates, mostly related to the complex neuroanatomy of the CS-sellar region (i.e., peri and postoperative bleeding, and transitory or permanent nerve palsies, hormonal deficits). Consequently, only a few cases of successful total removal have been reported so far in the literature. Surgical debulking with cranial nerve decompression followed by stereotactic radiosurgery is currently considered the best alternative to total removal when the latter carries excessive perioperative risks. We present a rare case of a mainly located intrasellar ECH extending to the left CS discussing its clinical features and focusing on the most relevant aspects of the surgical management along with a review of the pertinent literature.

Abstract
Purpose We performed this retrospective study to investigate the outcomes of patients with hemangioma of the cavernous sinus after fractionated radiotherapy. Materials and Methods We analyzed 10 patients with hemangioma of the cavernous sinus who were treated with conventional radiotherapy between January 2000 and December 2016. The median patient age was 54 years (range, 31–65 years), and 8 patients (80.0%) were female. The mean hemangioma volume was 34.1 cm3 (range, 6.8–83.2 cm3), and fractionated radiation was administered to a total dose of 50–54 Gy with a daily dose of 2 Gy. Results The median follow-up period was 6.8 years (range, 2.2–8.8 years). At last follow-up, the volume of the tumor had decreased in all patients. The average tumor volume reduction rate from the initial volume was 72.9% (range, 18.9–95.3%). All 10 of the cranial neuropathies observed before radiation therapy had improved, with complete symptomatic remission in 9 cases (90%) and partial remission in 1 case (10%). No new acute neurologic impairments were reported after radiotherapy. One probable compressive optic neuropathy was observed at 1 year after radiotherapy. Conclusion Fractionated radiotherapy achieves both symptomatic and radiologic improvements. It is a well-tolerated treatment modality for hemangiomas of the cavernous sinus.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Cavernous sinus hemangiomas (CSHs) are rare benign vascular tumors that arise from the dural venous sinuses lateral to the sella. Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) has emerged as a principal alternative to microresection for small- and medium-sized CSHs. Resection is a reasonable option for large (3-4 cm in diameter) and giant (> 4 cm in diameter) CSHs. However, management of giant CSHs remains a challenge for neurosurgeons because of the high rates of morbidity and even death that stem from uncontrollable and massive hemorrhage during surgery. The authors report here the results of their study on the use of hypofractionated SRS (H-SRS) to treat giant CSH. METHODS Between January 2008 and April 2014, 31 patients with a giant CSH (tumor volume > 40 cm3, > 4 cm in diameter) treated using CyberKnife radiosurgery were enrolled in a cohort study. Clinical status and targeted reduction of tumor volume were evaluated by means of serial MRI. The diagnosis for 27 patients was determined on the basis of typical imaging features. In 4 patients, the diagnosis of CSH was confirmed histopathologically. The median CSH volume was 64.4 cm3 (range 40.9-145.3 cm3). Three or 4 sessions of CyberKnife radiosurgery were used with a prescription dose based on the intent to cover the entire tumor with a higher dose while ensuring dose limitation to the visual pathways and brainstem. The median marginal dose to the tumor was 21 Gy (range 19.5-21 Gy) in 3 fractions for 11 patients and 22 Gy (range 18-22 Gy) in 4 fractions for 20 patients. RESULTS The median duration of follow-up was 30 months (range 6-78 months) for all patients. Follow-up MRI scans revealed a median tumor volume reduction of 88.1% (62.3%-99.4%) at last examination compared with the pretreatment volume. Ten patients developed new or aggravated temporary headache and 5 experienced vomiting during the treatment; these acute symptoms were relieved completely after steroid administration. Among the 30 patients with symptoms observed before treatment, 19 achieved complete symptomatic remission, and 11 had partial remission. One patient reported seizures, which were controlled after antiepileptic drug administration. No radiation-induced neurological deficits or delayed complications were reported during the follow-up period. CONCLUSIONS Hypofractionated SRS was an effective and safe modality for treating giant CSH. Considering the risks involved with microsurgery, it is possible that H-SRS might be able to serve as a definitive primary treatment option for giant CSH.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cavernous sinus hemangioma (CSH) is a rare type of benign vascular tumor. Microsurgery for CSH treatment usually results in profuse bleeding and cranial nerve injury. Radiosurgery is an alternative treatment for CSH. The objective of this study was to elucidate the efficacy and safety of gamma knife surgery (GKS) for the treatment of CSH. METHODS A total of 32 patients with CSH underwent 34 times of GKS as a primary and exclusive treatment from 2009 to 2015 at West China Hospital. The diagnosis was mainly based on findings of magnetic resonance imaging. The treatment was performed with the Leksell Gamma Knife model C. The follow-up period was from 12-67 months. Changes in imaging results and signs or symptoms were analyzed. Studies of patients who had undergone radiosurgery and microsurgery were compared. RESULTS Clinical improvement was observed after GKS in 26 of 27 patients who presented with signs or symptoms of CSH. Tumor shrinkage was detected in all cases. A reduction in tumor volume of 0-25%, 26%-50%, 51%-75%, and 76%-100% was observed in 3, 2, 8, and 19 cases, respectively. Remarkable tumor shrinkage occurred within 6-12 months after GKS. According to a retrospective analysis of 151 patients diagnosed with CSH, 77 patients underwent GKS without any complications, 17 of 74 patients were treated with microsurgery and exhibited persistent complications, and 1 patient died. CONCLUSIONS GKS is a safe and effective treatment for most cases of CSH. The concept of GKS as an adjuvant treatment for CSH requires reconsideration.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Cavernous sinus hemangiomas (CSHs) are rare vascular tumors. A direct microsurgical approach usually results in massive hemorrhage and incomplete tumor resection. Although stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) has emerged as a therapeutic alternative to microsurgery, outcome studies are few. Authors of the present study evaluated the role of SRS for CSH. METHODS An international multicenter study was conducted to review outcome data in 31 patients with CSH. Eleven patients had initial microsurgery before SRS, and the other 20 patients (64.5%) underwent Gamma Knife SRS as the primary management for their CSH. Median age at the time of radiosurgery was 47 years, and 77.4% of patients had cranial nerve dysfunction before SRS. Patients received a median tumor margin dose of 12.6 Gy (range 12-19 Gy) at a median isodose of 55%. RESULTS Tumor regression was confirmed by imaging in all 31 patients, and all patients had greater than 50% reduction in tumor volume at 6 months post-SRS. No patient had delayed tumor growth, new cranial neuropathy, visual function deterioration, adverse radiation effects, or hypopituitarism after SRS. Twenty-four patients had presented with cranial nerve disorders before SRS, and 6 (25%) of them had gradual improvement. Four (66.7%) of the 6 patients with orbital symptoms had symptomatic relief at the last follow-up. CONCLUSIONS Stereotactic radiosurgery was effective in reducing the volume of CSH and attaining long-term tumor control in all patients at a median of 40 months. The authors' experience suggests that SRS is a reasonable primary and adjuvant treatment modality for patients in whom a CSH is diagnosed.

Abstract
Cavernous sinus hemangioma (CSH) is a rare extra-axial vascular neoplasm that accounts for 2% to 3% of all cavernous sinus tumors. Their location, propensity for profuse bleeding during surgery, and relationship to complex neurovascular structures are factors which present difficulty in excising these lesions. The authors describe their experience of 22 patients with CSH over 14 years at a tertiary care center. Patients were managed with microsurgical resection using a purely extradural transcavernous approach (13 patients) and with Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS; Elekta AB, Stockholm, Sweden) (nine patients). Retrospective data analysis found headache and visual impairment were the most common presenting complaints, followed by facial hypesthesia and diplopia. All but one patient had complete tumor excision in the surgical series. Transient ophthalmoparesis (complete resolution in 6-8 weeks) was the most common surgical complication. In the GKRS group, marked tumor shrinkage (>50% tumor volume reduction) was achieved in two patients, slight shrinkage in five and no change in two patients, with symptom improvement in the majority of patients. To our knowledge, we describe one of the largest series of CSH managed at a single center. Although microsurgical resection using an extradural transcavernous approach is considered the treatment of choice in CSH and allows complete excision with minimal mortality and long-term morbidity, GKRS is an additional tool for treating residual symptomatic lesions or in patients with associated comorbidities making surgical resection unsuitable.

Abstract
PURPOSE Cavernous malformations (hemangioma) of the orbit, when symptomatic, can often be treated successfully with complete surgical excision. However, when they involve local structures in their capsule, are situated in the orbital apex, or extend through the superior orbital fissure, the risks of surgery increase significantly. In such cases, alternative treatment modalities can be explored. In this study, the authors report on the use of fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (SFRT) for the treatment of surgically complicated cavernous malformations. METHODS In this retrospective cohort study, the authors reviewed the clinical and radiologic records of 5 patients treated with SFRT over the past 5 years. RESULTS Patients ranged in age from 30 to 65 years, and 3 out of 5 were female. Two cases involved the cavernous sinus, one involved the ophthalmic artery, one involved the posterior ciliary artery, and the last traversed the superior orbital fissure. Four had significant visual field defects. Each was treated with SFRT. A total dose of 4000 cGy divided into 20,200 cGy fractions was applied for 3 cases, while 2 other cases were treated with total doses of 4563 and 4959 cGy divided into 28 × 162 cGy and 29 × 171 cGy fractions, respectively. Rapid resolution of visual field defect was noted by 3 months, and overall tumor shrinkage was on average 60% (range: 32-79%). Follow-up was on average 23.4 months (range: 5-50 months). No complications of treatment were noted. CONCLUSIONS For symptomatic cavernous malformations demonstrating anatomical position that may increase risk of surgical excision, SFRT is an effective and safe method to control lesion size and improve visual function.

Abstract
Cavernous angiomas or hemangiomas and malignant lymphomas rarely involve the cavernous sinus. We report the case of a 72-year-old man with right circumorbital pain and right oculomotor nerve dysfunction because of a mass in the right cavernous sinus. It was removed via a transsphenoidal approach and histological examination revealed the mass was a cavernous hemangioma containing atypical large B cells in some sinusoidal vessels; no other evidence of lymphoma was detected on (18)F-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron-emission tomography or bone marrow biopsy. The patient underwent gamma knife radiosurgery (GKS) of the right cavernous sinus, but no systemic chemotherapy was administered. Although good local control was achieved, the patient developed a systemic diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) 1.5 years after the GKS. The atypical lymphocytes of the cavernous hemangioma and biopsied lymph nodes expressed multiple myeloma oncogene-1 protein. This is a rare case of DLBCL occurring within a cavernous sinus that was diagnosed as hemangioma of the cavernous sinus by neuroimaging, surgical findings, and rapid-freezing histological diagnosis. The case indicates a importance of surgical sampling and detailed histopathological analysis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cavernous hemangioma in the cavernous sinus (CS) is a rare vascular tumor. Direct microsurgical approach usually results in massive hemorrhage. Radiosurgery has emerged as a treatment alternative to microsurgery. OBJECTIVE To further investigate the role of Gamma Knife surgery (GKS) in treating CS hemangiomas. METHODS This was a retrospective analysis of 7 patients with CS hemangiomas treated by GKS between 1993 and 2008. Data from 84 CS meningiomas treated during the same period were also analyzed for comparison. The patients underwent follow-up magnetic resonance imaging at 6-month intervals. Data on clinical and imaging changes after radiosurgery were analyzed. RESULTS Six months after GKS, magnetic resonance imaging revealed an average of 72% tumor volume reduction (range, 56%-83%). After 1 year, tumor volume decreased 80% (range, 69%-90%) compared with the pre-GKS volume. Three patients had > 5 years of follow-up, which showed the tumor volume further decreased by 90% of the original size. The average tumor volume reduction was 82%. In contrast, tumor volume reduction of the 84 cavernous sinus meningiomas after GKS was only 29% (P < .001 by Mann-Whitney U test). Before treatment, 6 patients had various degrees of ophthalmoplegia. After GKS, 5 improved markedly within 6 months. Two patients who suffered from poor vision improved after radiosurgery. CONCLUSION GKS is an effective and safe treatment modality for CS hemangiomas with long-term treatment effect. Considering the high risks involved in microsurgery, GKS may serve as the primary treatment choice for CS hemangiomas.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Intracranial cavernous hemangiomas are benign vascular malformations that can be divided into intra-axial and extra-axial types. Extra-axial cavernous angiomas (or hemangiomas) are rare lesions; intracranially, they arise in relation to the dura mater or at a spinal level mimicking meningiomas. They are very rarely reported in the posterior cranial fossa. CASE REPORT The authors report a case of a cavernous angioma that occurred in the cerebellar falx of a 58-year-old man. The lesion was discovered during cranial computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations. The patient underwent surgery with en-bloc removal of the tumor. No significant intraoperative bleeding or complications occurred during the postoperative course. CONCLUSION Intra-axial and extra-axial cavernous angiomas are histopathologically identical lesions, but by the radiological features, it is very difficult to distinguish the extra-axial cavernous angiomas from meningiomas, especially when dural tail sign and calcification are present.

Thirty patients with CS hemangiomas, including 19 female and 11 male patients with a mean age of 53 years (range 19–78 years) underwent GKS at 7 facilities in Japan. Pathological entity was confirmed using surgical specimens in 17 patients, and neuroimaging diagnosis only in 13. Eight patients were asymptomatic before GKS, while 22 had ocular movement disturbances and/or optic nerve impairments. The mean tumor volume was 11.5 cm3 (range 1.5–51.4 cm3). The mean dose to the tumor periphery was 13.8 Gy (range 10.0–17.0 Gy).
Results
The mean follow-up period was 53 months (range 12–138 months). Among the 22 patients with symptoms prior to GKS, complete remission was achieved in 2, improvement in 13, and no change in 7. Hemifacial sensory disturbance developed following GKS in 1 patient. The most recent MR images showed remarkable shrinkage in 18, shrinkage in 11, and no change in 1 patient.
Conclusions
Gamma Knife radiosurgery proved to be an effective treatment strategy for managing CS hemangiomas. Given the diagnostic accuracy of recently developed neuroimaging techniques and the potentially serious bleeding associated with biopsy sampling or attempted surgical removal, the authors recommend that GKS be the primary treatment in most patients who have a clear neuroimaging diagnosis of this condition.

OBJECTIVE
Hemangiomas are rare but highly vascular tumors that may develop in the cavernous sinus or orbit. These tumors pose diagnostic as well as therapeutic challenges to neurosurgeons during attempted removal. We analyzed our increasing experience using stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS).
METHODS
Eight symptomatic patients with hemangiomas underwent SRS between 1988 and 2007. The presenting symptoms included headache, orbital pain, diplopia, ptosis, proptosis and impaired visual acuity. The hemangiomas were located in either the cavernous sinus (7 patients) or the orbit (1 patient). Four patients underwent SRS as primary treatment modality based on clinical and imaging criteria. Four patients had previous microsurgical partial excision or biopsy. The median target volume was 6.8 mL (range, 2.5–18 mL). The median prescription dose delivered to the margin was 14.5 Gy (range, 12.5–19 Gy). The dose to the optic nerve in all patients was less than 9 Gy (range, 4.5–9 Gy).
RESULTS
The median follow-up period after SRS was 80 months (range, 40–127 months). Six patients had symptomatic improvement; 2 patients reported persistent diplopia. Follow-up imaging revealed tumor regression in 7 patients and no change in tumor volume in 1 patient. All the patients improved after SRS.
CONCLUSION
Our extended experience confirms that SRS is an effective management strategy for symptomatic intracavernous and intraorbital hemangiomas. Our study is the first long-term report on the safety and efficacy of SRS.

Abstract
Extra-axial cavernous sinus hemangiomas are rare and account for less than 1% of parasellar tumors. These lesions have characteristic radiological features but the differential diagnosis from parasellar meningiomas and schwannomas can be difficult. Preoperative diagnosis is important due to the risk of severe intraoperative bleeding and the complex neurovascular structures of the cavernous sinus. We describe two cases of cavernous sinus hemangiomas and review the imaging findings of these lesions.

Abstract
Intracranial cavernous angiomas are benign vascular malformations and can be divided into intra-axial and extra-axial lesions. Extra-axial cavernous angiomas are relatively rare and usually arise in relation to the dura mater and mimick meningiomas. We report a case of cavernous angioma that occurred in the falx cerebri of a 22-yr-old female patient with the special focus on neuroradiologic findings. This is the fourth case of cavernous angioma in the falx cerebri reported in the literature to our knowledge.

Abstract
Cavernous hemangiomas that occur within the cavernous sinus (CS) are different from cerebral cavernous malformations (CMs) clinically, on imaging studies, and in their response to treatment. Moreover, CMs are true vascular malformations, whereas hemangiomas are benign vascular tumors. Because of these differences, the authors suggest that these two entities be analyzed and grouped separately. Unfortunately, despite these differences, much confusion exists in the literature as to the nature, behavior, and classification of these two distinct lesions. This confusion is exacerbated by subtle histological differences and the inconsistent use of nomenclature. The authors use the term "cavernous malformation" to refer to intraaxial lesions only; they prefer to use the term "cavernous sinus hemangioma" to refer to extraaxial, intradural hemangiomas of the CS.

Abstract
Cavernous hemangiomas are most commonly found within the subcortical neural parenchyma near the fissura Rolandi, in the basal ganglia, or in the brain stem. Because of advancing neuro-imaging technology and thus resulting in a higher incidence of cavernous hemangiomas they have rising impact in neurosurgery. We present two unusual cases of extra-axial cavernous hemangiomas: one located at the frontal falx, the other within the bone of the right frontal bone. We discuss these and other cases in the literature with respect to the more common differential diagnoses and the appropriate therapy regimen for cavernous hemangiomas in these locations.

✓ A cavernous hemangioma occurring in the cavernous sinus is a rare vascular tumor that causes cranial nerve symptoms by direct compression. Surgical removal is often difficult because excessive intraoperative bleeding is expected. These lesions remain a therapeutic challenge even with state-of-the-art treatment modalities. The authors report three cases of cavernous hemangioma occurring in the cavernous sinus that were treated with gamma knife radiosurgery, with a mean patient age of 66 years and a mean tumor volume of 2.3 cm3.

Abstract
✓ In planning surgical treatment for extraaxial cavernous hemangiomas, care should be taken to control severe tumor bleeding. The authors present a case of a large cavernous hemangioma of the cavernous sinus, which was completely removed with the aid of multiple intratumoral injections of fibrin glue. This novel method is very effective for preventing excessive blood loss during surgery for this type of lesion.
