Dual-Energy and Iterative Metal Artifact Reduction for Reducing Artifacts Due to Metallic Hardware: A Loosening Hip Phantom Study

Metallic artifacts-free spectral computed tomography angiography based on renal clearable bismuth chelate

Computed tomography angiography (CTA) is one of the most important diagnosis techniques for various vascular diseases in clinic. However, metallic artifacts caused by metal implants and calcified plaques in more and more patients severely hinder its wide applications. Herein, we propose an improved metallic artifacts-free spectral CTA technique based on renal clearable bismuth chelate (Bi-DTPA dimeglumine) for the first time. Bi-DTPA dimeglumine owns the merits of ultra-simple synthetic process, approximately 100% of yield, large-scale production capability, good biocompatibility, and favorable renal clearable ability. More importantly, Bi-DTPA dimeglumine shows superior contrast-enhanced effect in CTA compared with clinical iohexol at a wide range of X-ray energies especially in higher X-ray energy. In rabbits' model with metallic transplants, Bi-DTPA dimeglumine assisted-spectral CTA can not only effectively mitigate metallic artifacts by reducing beam hardening effect under high X-ray energy, but also enables accurate delineation of vascular structure. Our proposed strategy opens a revolutionary way to solve the bottleneck problem of metallic artifacts in CTA examinations.

Iterative Metal Artifact Reduction in Head and Neck CT Facilitates Tumor Visualization of Oral and Oropharyngeal Cancer Obscured by Artifacts From Dental Hardware

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic utility of iterative metal artifact reduction (iMAR) in computed tomography (CT)-imaging of oral and oropharyngeal cancers when obscured by dental hardware artifacts and to determine the most appropriate iMAR settings for this purpose.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

The study retrospectively enrolled 27 patients (8 female, 19 male; mean age 64±12.7years) with histologically confirmed oral or oropharyngeal cancer obscured by dental artifacts in contrast-enhanced CT. Raw CT data were reconstructed with ascending iMAR strengths (levels 1/2/3/4/5) and one reconstruction without iMAR (level 0). For subjective analysis, two blinded radiologists rated tumor visualization and artifact severity on a five-point Likert scale. For objective analysis, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), and artifact index (AI) were determined.

RESULTS

iMAR reconstructions improved the subjective image quality of tumor edge and contrast, and the objective parameters of tumor SNR and CNR, reaching their optimum at iMAR levels 4 and 5 (P<.001). AI decreased with iMAR reconstructions reaching its minimum at iMAR level 5 (P<.001). Tumor detection rates increased 2.4-fold with iMAR 5, 2.1-fold with iMAR 4, and 1.9-fold with iMAR 3 compared to reconstructions without iMAR. Disadvantages such as algorithm-induced artifacts increased significantly with higher iMAR strengths (P<.05), reaching a maximum with iMAR 5.

CONCLUSION

iMAR significantly improves CT imaging of oral and oropharyngeal cancers, as confirmed by both subjective and objective measures, with best results at highest iMAR strengths.

Application of spectral CT in diagnosis, classification and prognostic monitoring of gastrointestinal cancers: progress, limitations and prospects

Gastrointestinal (GI) cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Computed tomography (CT) is an important auxiliary tool for the diagnosis, evaluation, and prognosis prediction of gastrointestinal tumors. Spectral CT is another major CT revolution after spiral CT and multidetector CT. Compared to traditional CT which only provides single-parameter anatomical diagnostic mode imaging, spectral CT can achieve multi-parameter imaging and provide a wealth of image information to optimize disease diagnosis. In recent years, with the rapid development and application of spectral CT, more and more studies on the application of spectral CT in the characterization of GI tumors have been published. For this review, we obtained a substantial volume of literature, focusing on spectral CT imaging of gastrointestinal cancers, including esophageal, stomach, colorectal, liver, and pancreatic cancers. We found that spectral CT can not only accurately stage gastrointestinal tumors before operation but also distinguish benign and malignant GI tumors with improved image quality, and effectively evaluate the therapeutic response and prognosis of the lesions. In addition, this paper also discusses the limitations and prospects of using spectral CT in GI cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Personalization of thoracoabdominal CT examinations using scanner integrated clinical decision support systems - Impact on the acquisition technique, scan range, and reconstruction type

OBJECTIVES

This study evaluates the impact of a scanner-integrated, customized clinical decision support system (CDSS) on the acquisition technique, scan range, and reconstruction in thoracoabdominal CT.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

We applied CDSS in contrast-enhanced examinations of the trunk with various clinical indications on a recent scanner with the capability of dual-energy CT (DECT), anatomic landmark detection (ALD), and iterative metal-artifact reduction (MAR). Simple and comprehensive questions about the patient's breath hold capability, the anatomical region of interest, and metal implants can be answered after the localizer. The acquisition technique (single energy, SECT, or dual energy), scan range (chest-abdomen-pelvis or chest-abdomen), and reconstruction technique (with or without MAR) were then automatically adapted in the examination protocols in coherence with these selections. Retrospectively, we compared the usage rates for these techniques in 624 examinations on the study scanner with 740 examinations on a comparable scanner without CDSS. Subgroup analysis of effective dose (ED), scan duration, and image quality (IQ) was performed in the study group.

RESULTS

CDSS leads to an increased usage rate of DECT (64.4% vs. 2.8%) and MAR (75.4% vs. 44.0%). All scan range adaptations by ALD were successful. The resulting subjective IQ between single energy and DECT acquisitions was comparable (all p > 0.05). Scan duration was significantly longer in DECT than in SECT (16.9 s vs. 6.5 s; p < 0.001). However, the objective IQ was significantly higher in DECT (CNRD 2.1 vs. 1.8; p < 0.01), and the ED significantly lower (6.7 mSv vs. 7.6 mSv; p = 0.004).

CONCLUSION

CDSS for thoracoabdominal CT leads to a substantially increased usage rate of innovative techniques during acquisition and reconstruction. Patients with adapted protocols benefit from improved image quality and increased post-processing options at lower radiation doses.

Metal artifacts reduction in kV-CT images with polymetallic dentures and complex metals based on MV-CBCT images in radiotherapy

This paper proposes a metal artifact reduction method of using MV-CBCT images to correct metal artifacts in kV-CT images, especially for the complex metal artifacts caused by multi-metal interaction of patients with head and neck tumors. The different tissue regions are segmented in the MV-CBCT images to obtain template images and the metal region is segmented in the kV-CT images. Forward projection is performed to get sinogram of the template images, kV-CT images and metal region images. Artifact images can be reconstructed through those sonograms. Corrected images is generated by subtracting the artifact images from the original kV-CT images. After the first correction, the template images are generated again and brought into the previous step for iteration to get better correction result. CT data set of 7 patients are used in this study, compared with linear interpolation metal artifact (LIMAR) and normalized metal artifact reduction method, mean relative error of CT value is reduced by 50.5% and 63.3%, noise is reduced by 56.2% and 58.9%. The Identifiability Score of the tooth, upper/lower jaw, tongue, lips, masseter muscle and cavity in the corrected images by the proposed method have significantly improved (P < 0.05) than original images. The artifacts correction method proposed in this paper can effectively remove the metal artifacts in the images and greatly improve the CT value accuracy, especially in the case of multi-metal and complex metal implantation.

Change in CT-measured acetabular bone density following total hip arthroplasty: a systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

Assessing peri-acetabular bone quality is valuable for optimizing the outcomes of primary total hip arthroplasty (THA) as preservation of good quality bone stock likely affects implant stability. The aim of this study was to perform a meta-analysis of peri-acetabular bone mineral density (BMD) changes over time measured using quantitative computer tomography (CT) and, second, to investigate the influence of age, sex, and fixation on the change in BMD over time.

METHODS

A systematic search of Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed databases identified 19 studies that measured BMD using CT following THA. The regions of interest (ROI), reporting of BMD results, and scan protocols were extracted. A meta-analysis of BMD was performed on 12 studies that reported measurements immediately postoperatively and at follow-up.

RESULTS

The meta-analysis determined that periacetabular BMD around both cemented and uncemented components decreases over time. The amount of BMD loss increased relative to proximity of the acetabular component. There was a greater decrease in cortical BMD over time in females and cancellous BMD for young patients of any sex.

CONCLUSION

Peri-acetabular BMD decreases at different rates relative to its proximity to the acetabular component. Cancellous BMD decreases more in young patients and cortical bone decreases more in females. Standardized reporting parameters and suggested ROI to measure peri-acetabular BMD are proposed, to enable comparison between implant and patient variables in the future.

Metal implants on abdominal CT: does split-filter dual-energy CT provide additional value over iterative metal artifact reduction?

PURPOSE

To assess image quality and metal artifact reduction in split-filter dual-energy CT (sfDECT) of the abdomen with hip or spinal implants using virtual monoenergetic images (VMI) and iterative metal artifact reduction algorithm (iMAR).

METHODS

102 portal-venous abdominal sfDECTs of patients with hip (n = 71) or spinal implants (n = 31) were included in this study. Images were reconstructed as 120kVp-equivalent images (Mixed) and VMI (40-190 keV), with and without iMAR. Quantitative artifact and image noise was measured using 12 different ROIs. Subjective image quality was rated by two readers using a five-point Likert-scale in six categories, including overall image quality and vascular contrast.

RESULTS

Lowest quantitative artifact in both hip and spinal implants was measured in VMI_190keV-iMAR. However, it was not significantly lower than in Mixed_iMAR (for all ROIs, p = 1.00), which were rated best for overall image quality (hip: 1.00 [IQR: 1.00-2.00], spine: 3.00 [IQR:2.00-3.00]). VMI_50keV-iMAR was rated best for vascular contrast (hip: 1.00 [IQR: 1.00-2.00], spine: 2.00 [IQR: 1.00-2.00]), which was significantly better than Mixed (both, p < 0.001). VMI_50keV-iMAR provided superior overall image quality compared to Mixed for hip (1.00 vs 2.00, p < 0.001) and similar diagnostic image quality for spinal implants (2.00 vs 2.00, p = 0.51).

CONCLUSION

For abdominal sfDECT with hip or spinal implants Mixed_iMAR images should be used. High keV VMI do not further improve image quality. IMAR allows the use of low keV images (VMI_50keV) to improve vascular contrast, compared to Mixed images.

Emerging Technology in Musculoskeletal MRI and CT

This article provides a focused overview of emerging technology in musculoskeletal MRI and CT. These technological advances have primarily focused on decreasing examination times, obtaining higher quality images, providing more convenient and economical imaging alternatives, and improving patient safety through lower radiation doses. New MRI acceleration methods using deep learning and novel reconstruction algorithms can reduce scanning times while maintaining high image quality. New synthetic techniques are now available that provide multiple tissue contrasts from a limited amount of MRI and CT data. Modern low-field-strength MRI scanners can provide a more convenient and economical imaging alternative in clinical practice, while clinical 7.0-T scanners have the potential to maximize image quality. Three-dimensional MRI curved planar reformation and cinematic rendering can provide improved methods for image representation. Photon-counting detector CT can provide lower radiation doses, higher spatial resolution, greater tissue contrast, and reduced noise in comparison with currently used energy-integrating detector CT scanners. Technological advances have also been made in challenging areas of musculoskeletal imaging, including MR neurography, imaging around metal, and dual-energy CT. While the preliminary results of these emerging technologies have been encouraging, whether they result in higher diagnostic performance requires further investigation.

Metal artifact reduction in cervix brachytherapy with titanium applicators using dual-energy CT through virtual monoenergetic images and an iterative algorithm: A phantom study

PURPOSE

To evaluate an iterative metal-artifact reduction (iMAR) algorithm, dual-energy CT (DECT) through virtual monoenergetic images (VMI), and a combination of iMAR and DECT for reducing metal artifact severity (AS) induced by Fletcher titanium applicators used in cervix brachytherapy, the efficacy of which are hitherto unreported.

METHODS AND MATERIALS

120 kV_p single-energy CT (SECT) (Siemens) of BEBIG tandem applicators, varying in shape (straight or curved) and diameter (3.5 mm or 5 mm) in a custom-made water-filled phantom, and their DECT images obtained from extrapolation of 80 kVp and 140 kVp, were reconstructed using four methods: DECT through VMI±iMAR, and SECT±iMAR. The DECT images were reconstructed monoenergetically at 70, 150, and 190 keV. AS was evaluated using measured values and statistical analysis.

RESULTS

iMAR, DECT, and combined DECT and iMAR reduced AS (p < 0.05). DECT had a lower AS than SECT, even without iMAR (p < 0.025). SECT+iMAR was more effective than DECT-iMAR with VMI at 70 and 190 keV (p < 0.05), whereas showing no statistically significant difference at 150 keV. With DECT and iMAR combined, AS was reduced more effectively compared to the SECT+iMAR or DECT alone. It also reduced the mean interobserver uncertainty by 0.2 mm.

CONCLUSIONS

These findings indicate that iMAR reduces the AS caused by Fletcher titanium applicators for both SECT and DECT, a combination of iMAR and DECT is superior to either strategy alone, and at low energies, DECT+iMAR also produces similar artifact reduction. These practical strategies promise more accurate source-position and structure definitions in CT-based gynecological brachytherapy treatment planning.

Dual energy CT in musculoskeletal applications beyond crystal imaging: bone marrow maps and metal artifact reduction

Dual energy CT (DECT) is becoming increasingly popular and valuable in the domain of musculoskeletal imaging. Gout maps and crystal detection have been predominant indications for about a decade. Other important indications of bone marrow maps and metal artifact reduction are also frequent with added advantages of detection and characterization of bone marrow lesions similar to MR imaging and diagnosis of hardware related complications, respectively. This article discusses technical considerations and physics of DECT imaging and its role in musculoskeletal indications apart from crystal imaging with respective case examples and review of the related literature. DECT pitfalls in these domains are also highlighted and the reader can gain knowledge of above concepts for prudent use of DECT in their musculoskeletal and general practices.

Dual-Energy CT of the Abdomen: Radiology In Training

A 61-year-old man with an esophageal cancer diagnosis underwent staging dual-energy CT of the chest and abdomen in the portal venous phase after contrast media administration. Aside from the primary tumor and suspicious local lymph nodes, CT revealed hypoattenuating ambiguous liver lesions, an incidental right adrenal nodule, and a right renal lesion with soft-tissue attenuation. In addition, advanced atherosclerosis of the abdominal aorta and its major branches was noted. This article provides a case-based review of dual-energy CT technologies and their applications in the abdomen. The clinical utility of virtual monoenergetic images, virtual unenhanced images, and iodine maps is discussed.

Advancements in Osteoporosis Imaging, Screening, and Study of Disease Etiology

PURPOSE OF REVIEW

The purpose of this review is to inform researchers and clinicians with the most recent imaging techniques that are employed (1) to opportunistically screen for osteoporosis and (2) to provide a better understanding into the disease etiology of osteoporosis.

RECENT FINDINGS

Phantomless calibration techniques for computed tomography (CT) may pave the way for better opportunistic osteoporosis screening and the retroactive analysis of imaging data. Additionally, hardware advances are enabling new applications of dual-energy CT and cone-beam CT to the study of bone. Advances in MRI sequences are also improving imaging evaluation of bone properties. Finally, the application of image registration techniques is enabling new uses of imaging to investigate soft tissue-bone interactions as well as bone turnover. While DXA remains the most prominent imaging tool for osteoporosis diagnosis, new imaging techniques are becoming more widely available and providing additional information to inform clinical decision-making.

Dosimetric impact of using a commercial metal artifact reduction tool in carbon ion therapy in patients with hip prostheses

The study investigated the dosimetric impact of an iterative metal artifact reduction (iMAR) tool on carbon ion therapy for pelvic cancer patients with hip prostheses. An anthropomorphic pelvic phantom with unilateral and bilateral hip prostheses was used to simulate pelvic cancer patients with metal implants. The raw data obtained from phantom CT scanning were reconstructed with a regular filtered back projection (FBP) algorithm and then corrected with iMAR. The phantom without hip prosthesis was also scanned and used as a reference ground truth (GT). The CT images of three prostate and four sarcoma patients with unilateral hip prosthesis were also reconstructed by FBP and iMAR algorithm and compared. iMAR algorithm reduced the metal artifacts and the maximum WEPL deviation in phantom images from −19.1 to −0.4 mm. However, the CT numbers cannot be retrieved using iMAR for periprosthetic bone materials, eventually leading to a WEPL deviation of −3.6 mm. The use of iMAR improved large discrepancies in DVHs of PTVs and the gamma index between FBP and GT images but increased the difference in the bladder DVH for bilateral hip prostheses due to newly introduced artifacts. In the patient study, the discrepancies of dose distribution were small on iMAR images when compared with FBP images for most cases, except for two sarcoma cases where gamma analysis failed and dose coverage in 98% of the PTV maximally reduced due to large volume of dark metal artifacts. iMAR reduced the metal artifacts and improved dose distribution accuracy in carbon ion radiotherapy for pelvic cancer. However, the residual and newly introduced artifacts, especially with bilateral hip prostheses, may potentially increase WEPL inaccuracy and dose uncertainty. The use of iMAR has the potential to improve carbon ion treatment planning of pelvic cancer but should be used with caution.

Dual energy computed tomography evaluation of skeletal traumas

Skeletal traumas are among the most common routine challenges faced by Emergency Radiologists, in particular in case of radiographically occult nondisplaced fractures or in case of soft tissue injuries. With the development of Dual Energy Computed Tomography (DECT) technology, new post-processing applications have gained a useful diagnostic role in many fields of musculoskeletal imaging including acute skeletal trauma imaging. In addition to conventional CT images, DECT allows for the generation of virtual calcium-suppressed images subtracting calcium from unenhanced CT images based on the fact that material attenuation varies at different energy levels. In this way, virtual-non-calcium (VNC) images can precisely characterize traumatic bone marrow edema in both axial and appendicular skeleton, facilitating prompt clinical decision, especially when magnetic resonance method is contraindicated or unavailable. Other DECT emerging applications in the trauma setting include metal artifact reduction and collagen mapping for the evaluation of injuries affecting ligament, tendon, and intervertebral disk. This review focuses on the basic principles of DECT and related post-processing algorithms, highlighting the current advantages and limitations of these new imaging advances in the Emergency Department related to skeletal traumas.

Metal artifact reduction using mono-energy images combined with metal artifact reduction software in spectral computed tomography: a study on phantoms

BACKGROUND

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of spectral computed tomography (CT) mono-energy imaging combined with metal artifact reduction software (MARs) for metal implant artifact reduction using a phantom.

METHODS

A quantitative standard phantom with 9 cylinders was used to simulate the attenuation of the different tissues of the human body around the metal implant. Groups A and B were divided according to conventional CT scan mode and spectral CT scan mode. Three sets of reconstructed images, including 120 kVp-like + MARs images, mono-energy images (MonoE), and MonoE + MARs images, were generated after spectral CT scanning. High-attenuation artifacts and low-attenuation artifacts were observed around the coil in the images of groups A and B. The CT values (Hounsfield unit) and standard deviation (SD) values of the artifacts were measured, and the artifact index and hardening artifact removal rate were calculated.

RESULTS

Compared to conventional poly-energy CT images, for high-attenuation and low-attenuation artifacts, the artifact indices of 120 kVp-like + MARs, MonoE, and MonoE + MARs images were all reduced significantly. The hardening artifact removal rates of the high-attenuation and low-attenuation artifacts of 120 kVp-like + MARs images were 82% and 92%, respectively. The hardening artifact removal rate of the high-attenuation and low-attenuation artifacts of MonoE and MonoE + MARs images increased with the mono-energy level.

CONCLUSIONS

Spectral CT using the 120 kVp-like + MARs, 110-140 keV MonoE, and MonoE + MARs reconstruction methods can reduce metal implant artifacts in varying degrees. MonoE + MARs reconstruction was the best method for reducing metal artifacts.

Combined Dual-Energy and Single-Energy Metal Artifact Reduction Techniques Versus Single-Energy Techniques Alone for Lesion Detection Near an Arthroplasty

OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to compare a combined dual-energy CT (DECT) and single-energy CT (SECT) metal artifact reduction technique with a SECT metal artifact reduction technique for detecting lesions near an arthroplasty in a phantom model. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Two CT phantoms with a cobalt chromium sphere attached to a titanium rod, simulating an arthroplasty, within a background of soft-tissue attenuation containing spherical lesions (range, 10-20 mm) around the head and stem of different attenuations from the background (range of attenuation, 10-70 HU) were scanned with a single CT scanner individually (unilateral) and together (bilateral) with the following three dose-equivalent techniques: the currently used clinical protocol (140 kVp, 300 Reference mAs); 100 kVp; and DECT (100 kVp and 150 kVp with a tin filter). Three radiologists reviewed the datasets to identify lesions. Nonparametric AUC was estimated for each reader with each technique. Multireader ANOVA was performed to compare AUCs. Multiple-variable logistic regression analysis was used to identify factors affecting sensitivity and specificity. RESULTS. Accuracy was lower (p < 0.001) for the DECT 130-keV technique than for the 100-, 70-, and 140-kVp techniques. Sensitivity was higher with unilateral arthroplasties (p = 0.037), with greater contrast differences from background (p < 0.001), and with the SECT 100-kVp technique versus other techniques (p < 0.001). The difference in specificities of modalities was not statistically significant (p = 0.148). CONCLUSION. Combining DECT and SECT techniques does not provide additional benefits for lesion detection as opposed to using SECT alone.

Managing treatment-related uncertainties in proton beam radiotherapy for gastrointestinal cancers

In recent years, there has been rapid adaption of proton beam radiotherapy (RT) for treatment of various malignancies in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, with increasing number of institutions implementing intensity modulated proton therapy (IMPT). We review the progress and existing literature regarding the technical aspects of RT planning for IMPT, and the existing tools that can help with the management of uncertainties which may impact the daily delivery of proton therapy. We provide an in-depth discussion regarding range uncertainties, dose calculations, image guidance requirements, organ and body cavity filling consideration, implanted devices and hardware, use of fiducials, breathing motion evaluations and both active and passive motion management methods, interplay effect, general IMPT treatment planning considerations including robustness plan evaluation and optimization, and finally plan monitoring and adaptation. These advances have improved confidence in delivery of IMPT for patients with GI malignancies under various scenarios.

Dual-energy CT evaluation of gastrointestinal bleeding

Gastrointestinal bleeding is a common cause for hospital admissions and is an important cause of morbidity and mortality. Although endoscopy is accepted as the standard initial diagnostic modality for the evaluation of gastrointestinal bleeding, multiphasic computed tomography (CT) imaging has become an alternative diagnostic tool. Dual-energy CT with post-processing techniques may have additional advantages over single-energy computed tomography in evaluation of gastrointestinal bleeding. In this article, we discuss the role of dual-energy CT in the evaluation of gastrointestinal bleeding with potential advantages over conventional CT and limitations.

Evaluation of glenoid labral tears: comparison between dual-energy CT arthrography and MR arthrography of the shoulder

OBJECTIVE

To compare the diagnostic accuracy of dual-energy computed tomography arthrography (DE-CTA) and magnetic resonance arthrography (MRA) of the shoulder in depicting glenoid labral tears.

METHODS

This prospective institutional review board-approved study included 47 consecutive patients (28 males, 19 females; mean age of 34.2 years) studied between January 2017 and October 2018. All patients underwent DE-CTA and MRA the same day. Two radiologists (25 and 11 years of experience, respectively), blinded to clinical data, evaluated the presence labral tears on virtual-blended 120 kV standard CTA and on DE-CTA images. A third radiologist (18 years of experience) evaluated the MRA images. Diagnostic accuracy values were calculated by using surgery as standard of reference. Inter-observer and intra-observer agreements were calculated with k statistics. A value of p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.

RESULTS

Surgery revealed the presence of labral tears in 38/47 patients (80.9%). Sensitivity and specificity values in diagnosing labral tears were 84.2% and 77.8% for MRA (Reader 3), 84.2% and 77.8% for CTA (Reader 1), 84.2% and 88.9% for CTA (Reader 2), 89.5% and 88.9% for DE-CTA (Reader 1), and 92.1% and 88.9% for DE-CTA (Reader 2). A nonsignificant increase in AUC values with respect to MRA was obtained by reading the CTA (p = 0.470) and DE-CTA dataset (p = 0.217), respectively. Inter-observer agreements were near perfect for CTA (k = 0.84) and substantial for DE-CTA reading (k = 0.76). Intra-observer agreements were near perfect both for CTA (k = 0.88) and for DE-CTA reading (k = 0.82).

DE-CTA and MRA were not different in terms of diagnostic performance.
