Abstract
Background: The pathogenesis of idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS) has not been fully explained. Among the likely factors, tumor necrosis factor - alpha (TNF-α) is considered. We aimed to evaluate the TNF-α (sTNF-α, uTNF-α) levels in the serum and urine of INS children, with the aim of determining its association with proteinuria, and of determining its usefulness as a marker of the disease severity. Methods: Fifty-one examined patients were divided into subgroups depending on the number of relapses as follows: group IA-first episode; group IB-more than two relapses, and according to treatment modality; group IIA-glucocorticosteroids (GS) alone; and group IIB-GS with immunosuppressants. Healthy age-matched children served as the control group. Results: sTNF-α and uTNF-α levels were significantly increased in active phases in the whole INS group compared to the control group. They decreased in remission, but remained significantly higher when compared to the control group. During remission in the IB group, sTNF-α levels were significantly higher than in IA, whereas, in the relapse phase, these values were similar. In the IA group, a positive correlation between proteinuria and sTNF-α was demonstrated. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that TNF-α plays a role in the development of INS, and may be used as a prognostic marker, as well as an indicator for the continuation of therapy. Additional research is required to verify this statement.

Abstract
Podocyte injury is the common initiating event in focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). Oxidative stress and inflammation mediate podocyte injury in FSGS. NRF2 pathway regulates the constitutive and inducible transcription of various genes that encode antioxidant proteins and anti-inflammatory proteins and have pivotal roles in the defense against cellular oxidative stress. In this study, we used adriamycin-induced nephropathy (ADR) in mice as a model of FSGS to confirm that CDDO-Me treatment ameliorated adriamycin-induced kidney damage by improving renal function and kidney histology. CDDO-Me inhibited the level of oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis in adriamycin-induced podocyte injury by activating NRF2 pathway in vivo and in vitro. Furthermore, CDDO-Me stabled the cytoskeleton by regulating NRF2/srGAP2a pathway. Together, these findings show that by activating NRF2 pathway, CDDO-Me could be a therapeutic strategy to prevent the adverse effects of adriamycin-induced podocyte injury.

Abstract
Aim Soluble urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) is an important protein that is reported to increase in a broad range of inflammatory processes. We aimed to determine whether suPAR is a significant biomarker in glomerulonephritis for distinguishing patients with treatment response from patients without treatment response in our study. Materials and methods This was a prospective study in which 117 patients with biopsy-proven glomerulonephritis and 54 healthy individuals without a known chronic disease (control group) were enrolled. A total of 117 patients were divided into two groups: "treatment responsive" and "treatment nonresponsive." Blood samples were collected from the patients upon their outpatient clinic visits, and the demographical and lab parameters were compared between the groups. Results For the patient group consisting of 117 individuals, 56.4% were male, the mean age was 49.6 years, and the mean follow-up duration was 32.2 months. The most commonly diagnosed glomerular disease was focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), followed by IgA nephropathy and membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis, respectively. While suPAR levels were significantly higher in the patient group (166.06 ± 127.66 vs. 119.67 ± 70.53 pg/ml, p = 0.001) (suPAR level ± standard deviation), no significant relationship was found between suPAR levels, treatment response status, and disease severity. Besides, there was no significant relationship between suPAR levels and proteinuria levels, BMI of the patients, and the type of immunosuppressive agent used in the treatment and BMI. Conclusion Our study showed that suPAR levels could distinguish a patient with glomerulonephritis from a healthy individual, whereas it has no value in predicting the disease progression and treatment responsiveness.

Abstract
Rationale & Objective Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a rare condition that can lead to kidney function decline and chronic kidney failure. Immunosuppressants are used to treat primary FSGS. However, their efficacy and safety in FSGS are not clearly established. We assessed current knowledge on clinical effectiveness and safety of immunosuppressants for primary FSGS. Study Design Systematic review of randomized controlled trials, interventional nonrandomized controlled trials, observational studies, retrospective studies, and registries. Setting & Participants Patients with primary and genetic FSGS. Selection Criteria for Studies Medline, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched for English-language, primary-FSGS studies from inception to 2019. Clinical outcomes were changes from baseline in proteinuria, kidney function, and kidney survival. Data Extraction 2 investigators independently screened studies and extracted data. Analytical Approach Study results were summarized using random-effects models either as ratios of means between follow-up and baseline measurements or as HRs. Results We included 98 articles. Substantial heterogeneity was observed in patient baseline characteristics and study designs. Most studies assessed treatment with corticosteroids alone or combined with other drugs, mainly immunosuppressants. Patients treated with immunosuppressants showed reduced proteinuria (14 studies; ratio of means, 0.36; 95% CI, 0.20-0.47), decreased creatinine clearance (mean difference, −25.03; 95% CI, −59.33 to −9.27) and (significantly) lower estimated glomerular filtration rates (mean difference, −7.61 mL/min/1.73 m2; 95% CI, −14.98 to 0.25 mL/min/1.73 m2). Immunosuppressant therapy had an uncertain effect on reducing the chronic kidney failure risk. Hypertension and infections were the most commonly reported adverse events. Limitations Heterogeneity in study designs, patient populations, and treatment regimens; no access to individual patient–level data. Conclusions This systematic review supports proteinuria reduction with immunosuppressant therapy in primary FSGS over varying follow-up periods. The effects of immunosuppressants on kidney survival remain uncertain. This review underscores the need for better-designed and adequately controlled studies to assess immunosuppressant therapy in patients with primary FSGS.

Abstract
Hemopexin (Hpx) is considered a factor in the pathogenesis of idiopathic nephrotic syndrome (INS). The aim of the study was to evaluate the serum and urine values of Hpx (sHpx and uHpx) in children with INS, analyze the role of Hpx, and assess its usefulness as a marker of the disease course. 51 children with INS and 18 age-matched controls were examined. Patients were divided into subgroups depending on the number of relapses (group IA-the first episode of INS, group IB-with relapses) and according to method of treatment (group IIA treated with gluco-corticosteroids (GCS), group IIB treated with GCS and other immunosuppressants). Hpx concentrations were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). sHpx and uHpx values in relapse were elevated in the whole INS group versus controls (p < 0.000). In remission their levels decreased, but still remained higher than in the control group (p < 0.000). In group IB uHpx levels were increased during remission as compared to group IA (p < 0.006). No significant impact of immuno-suppressants on sHpx was observed, but uHpx excretion in group IIA was higher in relapse (p < 0.026) and lower in remission (p < 0.0017) as compared to group IIB. The results suggest the role of Hpx in the pathogenesis of INS. Hpx may be a useful indicator for continuation of treatment, but it requires confirmation by further controlled studies.

Abstract
Objective The soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) is associated with kidney diseases and is used as a prognostic factor of renal function progression. The aim of this study was to explore whether circulating suPAR was associated with antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibody- (ANCA-) associated vasculitis (AAV) disease activity. Methods We evaluated 90 AAV patients with follow-up data and 35 normal controls; their plasma suPAR and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were measured by ELISA. Associations between these levels, clinical parameters, and prognosis were analyzed. Results Plasma suPAR levels in AAV patients were significantly higher than in healthy controls (5,920.08 ± 3,447.17 vs. 1,441.97 ± 835.04 pg/mL, P < 0.001). Furthermore, suPAR was significantly elevated in AAV patients in active stage compared to those in partial remissions (6,492.19 ± 3,689.48 vs. 5,031.86 ± 2,489.01 pg/mL, P = 0.039). Correlation analyses demonstrated that suPAR levels positively correlated with initial serum creatinine, BVAS, CRP, and procalcitonin concentration, and negatively correlated with eGFR and C3 circulating levels. In a Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, patients with plasma suPAR levels >5683.3 pg/mL showed poorer survival than patients with lower levels (log-rank, P = 0.001). Besides, multivariate analyses confirmed that plasma suPAR levels were an independent adverse prognostic factor for a composite outcome of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) or death, after adjusting for age and gender (HR 1.05, 95% CI = 1.01 − 1.11, P = 0.043). Receiver operating characteristic curves showed a suPAR cutoff value >6662.2 pg/mL for composite outcome with 68% sensitivity and 88% specificity, with an AUC = 0.82, (95% CI = 0.68 − 0.96, P < 0.001). Conclusion Circulating suPAR levels might be a marker of activity correlated with disease activity in AAV patients, and, to some extent, could be a factor of poor prognosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Soluble urokinase plasminogen activated receptor (suPAR) is a biomarker that may predict the occurrence of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS); however, there is still controversy about whether suPAR can predict FSGS. In this study, we performed a systematic evaluation and meta-analysis to prove whether suPAR can predict FSGS, and to detect a threshold concentration of suPAR that can be used to diagnose FSGS. In addition, a threshold concentration of suPAR for the diagnosis of FSGS was proposed. DESIGN Systematic review and meta-analysis. DATA SOURCES We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science and China Biology Medicine databases for studies published from the inception dates to 1 December 2018. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: (1) Data involving the suPAR level were from blood samples; (2) FSGS was diagnosed by biopsy; and (3) randomised controlled trials, cohort studies, case-control studies and cross-sectional studies. DATA EXTRACTION AND SYNTHESIS Initially, a total of 364 studies were searched, among which 29 studies were finally included. In addition, seven studies described the cut-off value of suPAR, which ranged from 2992.6 to 5500 pg/mL. RESULTS The results showed that the suPAR levels in the primary FSGS group were significantly higher when compared with that in the normal control group (p<0.001; standard mean difference (SMD): 2.56; 95% CI 1.85 to 3.28), and significant differences were observed in the secondary FSGS and in the normal control group (p<0.001; SMD: 1.68; 95% CI 1.37 to 1.98). A suPAR concentration of 3000 pg/mL may be the best threshold for the diagnosis of primary FSGS (sensitivity=0.72; specificity=0.88; area under the curve=0.85). CONCLUSION Our results suggested that suPAR might be a potential biomarker for predicting primary and secondary FSGS. In addition, our data showed that a suPAR concentration of 3000 pg/mL might be used as a threshold for the diagnosis of FSGS. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER CRD42019120948.

Abstract
Minimal change disease (MCD) and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) are primary glomerulopathies leading to proteinuria, known as podocytopathies, which share syndromic and morphological similarities. Morphological similarity occurs in cases of FSGS in which the sclerotic lesion was not sampled in renal biopsy, due to the focal nature of the disease. Differentiating these entities is very important, especially in cases of suspected FSGS but with sclerotic lesion not sampled, as they are diseases that apparently have different pathogenic mechanisms and prognosis. The difference in uPAR expression in situ among these two entities may be related to a distinct molecular mechanism involved in pathogenesis. Thus, finding biomarkers involved in the pathogenesis and that can also help in differential diagnosis is very relevant. The aim of this work was to evaluate the potential of urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR) as a biomarker in renal biopsies of patients with podocytopathies (n = 38). Immunohistochemistry showed that FSGS (n = 22) had increased uPAR expression in podocytes compared with both the MCD group (n = 16; p = 0.0368) and control group (n = 21; p = 0.0076). ROC curve (p = 0.008) showed that this biomarker has 80.95% of specificity in biopsies of patients with FSGS. Therefore, uPAR presented a high specificity in cases of podocytopathies associated with sclerosis and it can be considered a potential biomarker for FSGS.

Abstract
Introduction The soluble urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) has been found to be elevated in primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (pFSGS). However, its usefulness as a biomarker for FSGS remains controversial. We conducted a meta-analysis aiming at investigating the significance of suPAR in diagnosing pFSGS. Methods Electronic databases (PubMed and EMBASE) were searched to identify studies comparing suPAR levels in FSGS patients and controls, from the earliest available date to May 1, 2018. A random-effects model with standardized mean difference (SMD) was used for meta-analyses. Risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa quality assessment scale. Results A total of 187 articles were screened, and the final analysis included 13 articles. In comparison to healthy controls, serum suPAR levels were significantly increased in pFSGS patients (SMD, 1.07, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.65 to 1.48; participants = 814; studies = 9, I 2 = 85%). Higher suPAR levels were also found in patients with pFSGS compared to those with minimal change disease (SMD 0.53, 95% CI 0.22 to 0.84). Of note, such a difference was not found in pediatric groups (SMD 0.42, 95% CI -0.13 to 0.96) while it was more evidently noted in adult patients (SMD 1.32, 95% CI 0.90 to 1.74). Serum suPAR levels did not differ between pFSGS patients in remission compared to those in active proteinuric state (SMD 0.29, 95% CI -0.30 to 0.88). Comparison with membranous nephropathy and IgA nephropathy showed no significant difference. Conclusions Our meta-analysis demonstrated that, in comparison to both healthy controls and controls with minimal change disease, suPAR levels were significantly higher in adult patients with pFSGS. suPAR levels did not differ between pFSGS patients during the initial period of diagnosis and those in remission.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A lack of consensus exists as to the timing of kidney biopsy in children with steroid-dependent nephrotic syndrome (SDNS) where minimal change disease (MCD) predominates. This study aimed at examining the applicability of a biomarker-assisted risk score model to select SDNS patients at high risk of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) for biopsy. METHODS Fifty-five patients with SDNS and biopsy-proven MCD (n = 40) or FSGS (n = 15) were studied. A risk score model was developed with variables consisting of age, sex, eGFR, suPAR levels and percentage of CD8+ memory T cells. Following multivariate regression analysis, total risk score was calculated as sum of the products of odds ratios and corresponding variables. Predictive cut-off point was determined using receiver operator characteristics (ROC) curve analysis. RESULTS Plasma suPAR levels in FSGS patients were significantly higher, while percentage of CD45RO+CD8+CD3+ was significantly lower than in MCD patients and controls. ROC analysis suggests the risk score model with threshold score of 16.7 (AUC 0.84, 95% CI 0.72-0.96) was a good predictor of FSGS on biopsy. The 100% PPV cut-off was >24.0, while the 100% NPV was <13.3. CONCLUSION A suPAR and CD8+ memory T cell percentage-based risk score model was developed to stratify SDNS patients for biopsy and for predicting FSGS.

Abstract
AIM Fibrinogen (Fg) is reported to participate in inflammation through Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4). However, it remains unknown whether Fg might induce podocyte damage through TLR4 and be related to disease activity in patients with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). METHODS We observed Fg-induced alterations in actin and apoptosis in cultured human podocytes transfected with or without TLR4 siRNA. Expression of TLR4, phospho-p38 MAPK and phospho-NF-κB p65 was evaluated by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) or western blotting, and we analysed urinary Fg levels in adriamycin-treated mice and double immunofluorescence staining for TLR4, Fg and podocin. Urinary Fg changes were also analyzed in FSGS patients under prednisone treatment. RESULTS First, Fg dose-dependently induced actin damage and apoptosis in cultured human podocytes, with an Fg-induced increase in TLR4 expression, and TLR4 siRNA transfection prevented these effects. TLR4 knockdown inhibited activation of p38 MAPK and NF-κB p65 in podocytes. Elevated urinary Fg levels were positively correlated with albuminuria in adriamycin-treated mice, in which Fg and TLR4 colocalized and exhibited increased expression in podocytes. Additionally, elevated urinary Fg levels were positively correlated with 24-h proteinuria and foot process width in FSGS patients. Urinary Fg levels were significantly decreased in patients with complete remission but not in those without remission. CONCLUSIONS Fg induced podocytes injury via the TLR4-p38 MAPK-NF-κB p65 pathway. In FSGS patients, urinary Fg levels reflect therapeutic response to prednisone and disease activity.

Abstract
Steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome represents about 10-20% of pediatrics' nephrotic syndrome. The regeneration of glomerular barrier seems pivotal for cessation of proteinuria. Nephronectin (NPNT) plays a major role in nephrogenesis, signal transduction, and epithelial-mesenchymal interactions. This study aims to preliminary assess NPNT as potential noninvasive biomarker of glomerular regeneration and its ability to identify steroid resistance. In this case control study, 80 retrospectively selected patients with nephrotic syndrome were enrolled in addition to 40 healthy controls. Forty patients were steroid sensitive (SSNS) and the other 40 patients were steroid-resistant (SRNS), NPTN concentration was measured using ELISA and NPNT mRNA expression was assayed using real-time PCR. NPTN concentrations were significantly higher in SSNS than both SRNS and controls (The means were 4.64 ± 3.05, 0.69 ± 0.44, and 1.63 ± 0.59, respectively). Moreover, NPTN concentrations were significantly lower in SRNS than controls. NPTN was significantly overexpressed in SSNS compared to both SRNS and controls (the means were 10.82 ± 7.39, 1.19 ± 0.94, and 1.04 ± 0.10, respectively) with no statistically significant difference between SRNS and controls. ROC curves analysis showed that both NPNT expression and NPNT serum level are of promising diagnostic performance (ROCAUC 0.948 and 0.896, respectively). Regression analysis showed that both NPNT expression and NPNT serum level can be independent predictors of steroid resistance. The present study shows for the first time an enhanced expression of NPNT in steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome patients suggesting NPNT as a marker of glomerular regeneration. Also, serum NPNT can be a useful noninvasive biomarker of steroid resistance.

Abstract
Importance Conventional methods to diagnose and monitor chronic kidney disease (CKD) in children, such as creatinine level and cystatin C-derived estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and assessment of proteinuria in spot or timed urine samples, are of limited value in identifying patients at risk of progressive kidney function loss. Serum soluble urokinase receptor (suPAR) levels strongly predict incident CKD stage 3 in adults. Objective To determine whether elevated suPAR levels are associated with renal disease progression in children with CKD. Design, Setting, and Participants Post hoc analysis of 2 prospectively followed up pediatric CKD cohorts, ie, the ESCAPE Trial (1999-2007) and the 4C Study (2010-2016), with serum suPAR level measured at enrollment and longitudinal eGFR measured prospectively. In the 2 trials, a total of 898 children were observed at 30 (ESCAPE Trial; n = 256) and 55 (4C Study; n = 642) tertiary care hospitals in 13 European countries. Renal diagnoses included congenital anomalies of the kidneys and urinary tract (n = 637 [70.9%]), tubulointerstitial nephropathies (n = 92 [10.2%]), glomerulopathies (n = 69 [7.7%]), postischemic CKD (n = 42 [4.7%]), and other CKD (n = 58 [6.5%]). Total follow-up duration was up to 7.9 years, and median follow-up was 3.1 years. Analyses were conducted from October 2016 to December 2016. Exposures Serum suPAR level was measured at enrollment, and eGFR was measured every 2 months in the ESCAPE Trial and every 6 months in the 4C Study. The primary end point of CKD progression was a composite of 50% eGFR loss, eGFR less than 10 mL/min/1.73 m2, or initiation of renal replacement therapy. Main Outcomes and Measures The primary end point in this study was renal survival, defined as a composite of 50% loss of GFR that persisted for at least 1 month, the start of renal replacement therapy, or an eGFR less than 10 mL/min/1.73 m2. Results Of the 898 included children, 560 (62.4%) were male, and the mean (SD) patient age at enrollment was 11.9 (3.5) years. The mean (SD) eGFR was 34 (16) mL/min/1.73 m2. The 5-year end point-free renal survival was 64.5% (95% CI, 57.4-71.7) in children with suPAR levels in the lowest quartile compared with 35.9% (95% CI, 28.7-43.0) in those in the highest quartile (P < .001). By multivariable analysis, the risk of attaining the end point was higher in children with glomerulopathies and increased with age, blood pressure, proteinuria, and lower eGFR at baseline. In patients with baseline eGFR greater than 40 mL/min/1.73 m2, higher log-transformed suPAR levels were associated with a higher risk of CKD progression after adjustment for traditional risk factors (hazard ratio, 5.12; 95% CI, 1.56-16.7; P = .007). Conclusions and Relevance Patients with high suPAR levels were more likely to have progression of their kidney disease. Further studies should determine whether suPAR levels can identify children at risk for future CKD.

Abstract
Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is one of the primary glomerular disorders in both children and adults which can progress to end-stage renal failure. Although there are genetic and secondary causes, circulating factors have also been regarded as an important factor in the pathogenesis of FSGS, because about 40% of the patients with FSGS have recurrence after renal transplantation. Soluble urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) is a soluble form of uPAR, which is a membrane-bound protein linked to GPI in various immunologically active cells, including podocytes. It has recently been suggested as a potential circulating factor in FSGS by in vitro podocyte experiments, in vivo mice models, and human studies. However, there have also been controversies on this issue, because subsequent studies showed conflicting results. suPAR levels were also increased in patients with other glomerular diseases and were inversely correlated with estimated glomerular filtration rate. Nevertheless, there has been no balanced review on this issue. In this review, we compare the conflicting data on the involvement of suPAR in the pathogenesis of FSGS and shed light on interpretation by taking into account many points and the potential variables and confounders influencing serum suPAR levels.

Abstract
Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis is a histologic lesion, rather than a clinical disease. FSGS is common cause of nephrotic syndrome in both adults and children worldwide. In the United States it is the most common primary glomerular disease resulting in end-stage renal disease and recent reports have suggested that its incidence might be on the rise. Currently the incidence is estimated to be 7 per million. The podocyte is the cellular target cell in FSGS and in recent years substantial insight in the pathogenesis and genetics of FSGS have accumulated. Furthermore the discovery of potential novel biomarkers to diagnose FSGS and monitor disease activity has renewed interest in this disease. In this review article we will focus on the clinical presentation and diagnosis of FSGS.

Abstract
Primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a major cause of the nephrotic syndrome and often leads to end-stage renal disease. This review focuses on circulating permeability factors in primary FSGS that have been implicated in the pathogenesis for a long time, partly due to the potential recurrence in renal allografts within hours after transplantation. Recently, three molecules have been proposed as a potential permeability factor by different groups: the soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR), cardiotrophin-like cytokine factor-1 (CLCF-1), and CD40 antibodies. Both CLCF-1 and CD40 antibodies have not been validated by independent research groups yet. Since the identification of suPAR, different studies have questioned the validity of suPAR as a biomarker to distinguish primary FSGS from other proteinuric kidney diseases as well as suPAR's pathogenic role in podocyte damage. Researchers have suggested that cleaved molecules of suPAR have a pathogenic role in FSGS but further studies are needed to determine this role. In future studies, proposed standards for the research of the permeability factor should be carefully followed. The identification of the permeability factor in primary FSGS would be of great clinical relevance as it could influence potential individual treatment regimen.

Abstract
Primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is one of the major causes of steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome, and renal prognosis in patients with steroid-resistant FSGS is poor. It has been long speculated that a circulating permeability factor should be implicated in the pathogenesis of the disease because a substantial portion of the patients with primary FSGS experience recurrence shortly after transplantation. Although molecules such as cardiotrophin-like cytokine 1 (CLC-1) and anti-CD40 antibody have been proposed to be potential circulating permeability factors, a definitive factor remains to be discovered. Soluble urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) has attracted substantial attention and garnered scrutiny by renal researchers since Reiser's group suggested that it was linked to the pathogenesis of primary FSGS and that it might be useful as a diagnostic biomarker. A number of different cohort studies have shown that serum suPAR levels are negatively associated with renal function and can scarcely differentiate FSGS from the other glomerular/renal diseases. In contrast to initial studies, several in vivo studies investigating the effects of forced suPAR upregulation could not show the induction of proteinuria or podocyte injury. Currently it is suggested that a different form of suPAR, which cannot be measured by presently available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, might be the culprit; however, it remains to be determined whether this is the case. Because a circulating permeability factor might be a useful biomarker for diagnosing FSGS as well as a potent therapeutic target for primary and recurrent FSGS, further dedicated work will be needed.
