Abstract
This study compares condylar volumetric asymmetry and facial asymmetry in patients with cleft lip and/or palate (CLP) and controls. The mandibular condyle is important to facial growth, but its role in facial asymmetry for those with CLP has not been described. Condylar volumes and mandibular asymmetry were retrospectively calculated using Mimics Version 23.0 (Materialise, Leuven, Belgium) from patients with CLP undergoing computed tomography (CT) imaging and a cohort of controls. A total of 101 participants, 60 with CLP and 41 controls, had mean condylar volumetric asymmetry of 16.4 ± 17.4 % (CLP) and 6.0 ± 4.0 % (controls) (p = 0.0002). Patients with CLP who had clinically significant chin deviation (>4 mm) had more asymmetric condyles than those without significant chin deviation (p = 0.003). The chin deviated toward the smaller condyle in patients with facial asymmetry more often than in patients without facial asymmetry (81 % vs. 62 %, p = 0.033). While controls had some degree of condylar asymmetry, it tended to be milder and not associated with facial asymmetry. There is a greater degree of condylar volumetric asymmetry in patients with CLP compared to individuals in the general population. Clinically significant facial asymmetry in CLP is associated with a higher degree of condylar asymmetry, with the facial midline deviating toward the smaller condyle.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the 3D anatomical features of unilateral (UCLP) and bilateral (BCLP) complete cleft lip and palate with those of skeletal Class III dentofacial deformities. MATERIALS AND METHODS In total, 92 patients were divided into cleft and noncleft groups. The cleft group comprised 29 patients with UCLP and 17 patients with BCLP. The noncleft group comprised 46 patients with Class III dentofacial deformities. 3D anatomical landmarks were identified and the corresponding measurements were made on the cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). RESULTS The differences between the affected and unaffected sides of the patients with UCLP were nonsignificant. The differences between the patients with UCLP and BCLP were nonsignificant except for the SNA angle. Significant differences between the patients with clefts and Class III malocclusion were identified for the SNA, A-N perpendicular, and A-N Pog line, indicating that the maxillae of the patients in the cleft group were more retrognathic and micrognathic. Relative to the noncleft group patients, the cleft group patients had a significantly smaller ramus height. CONCLUSION The affected and unaffected sides of the patients with UCLP did not exhibit significant differences. The maxillae of the patients with UCLP were significantly more retrognathic than those of the patients with BCLP. The maxillae and mandibles of the patients in the cleft group were more micrognathic and retropositioned relative to those of the noncleft Class III patients. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The maxillary and mandibular findings indicated greater deficiencies in the patients with UCLP or BCLP than in those with skeletal Class III malocclusion. Appropriate surgical design should be administered.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the surgical rehabilitation of cleft lip and/or palate by the Brazilian public health system. METHODS Retrospective, analytical and comparative ecological study, with information on hospital procedures performed on individuals with cleft lip and/or palate in Centers authorized by the Brazilian public health system, between the years 2008 and 2020. The information was collected in databases Ministry of Health data. RESULTS Between 2008 and 2020, there was an increase of 8 (36.4%) qualified Centers in Brazil, currently having 30 Centers in 100% of the geographic regions. The surgical procedures performed totaled 68,716; with multiple surgeries being the most frequent. Complete cleft lip and palate was the most frequent type in hospital admissions. The public financial resources invested in the surgical rehabilitation of cleft lip and palate in the qualified Lip and Palate Malformation Treatment Centers were US$ 39,693 million, making an average value per procedure of US$ 577.64. CONCLUSIONS In Brazil, public health system performed and financed, over the years 2008 and 2020, an important volume of surgical procedures for cleft lip and/or palate, which presented a polarization in the Southeast region but with a slight tendency expansion to other regions of the country. The most performed surgical procedures were multiple surgeries and mostly for individuals with cleft lip and palate. The amounts paid showed a heretogeneous distribution in the national territory. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Down syndrome (DS) is a common congenital chromosomal disorder related to trisomy 21. Lateral cephalometric radiography studies have shown that patients with DS have characteristic craniofacial morphology; however, no 3-dimensional analysis studies have been performed to investigate the craniofacial features, including volumetric aspects, of patients with DS. The present study was performed to evaluate the craniofacial features, including volumetric aspects, of patients with DS and to compare these findings with control participants using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). MATERIALS AND METHODS The study sample consisted of 12 patients with DS and 12 control participants. All participants were examined by means of CBCT; the resulting images were used for evaluation of maxillary and mandibular volume, cranial base, and craniofacial measurements. Differences between patients with DS and control participants were statistically analyzed using Student t test. RESULTS Compared to control participants, patients with DS exhibited statistically significant reductions in maxillary and mandibular volumes. Both sagittal and axial cranial base linear measurements were shorter in patients with DS than in control participants. In contrast, the cranial base angle was enhanced in patients with DS, compared with control participants. Moreover, condylion (Co)-gnathion, anterior nasal spine-menton, and Co-subspinale (point A) measurements were shorter in patients with DS than in control participants; the sella-nasion-mandibular plane angle was significantly reduced in patients with DS, compared with control participants. CONCLUSION Our results suggest that patients with DS have distinct skeletal volume and craniofacial morphology features, relative to individuals without DS.

Abstract
The current study was conducted to assess the extent of maxillary arch collapse on the cleft vis-a-vis non-cleft sides in the same individual presenting withunilateral cleft lip and palate (UCLP), using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). Thirty-one children (eighteen boys andthirteen girls) with surgically repaired UCLP, who met the inclusion criteria, were selected. Following the acquisition of CBCT scans, fourteen bilateral landmarks were selected. The distance of the bilateral landmark was calculated from the midsagittal plane on the cleft and non-cleft sides for both frontal and axial views. Tracings were done;the data obtained was subjected to statistical analysis;and intra-observer variability was checked with intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and two-way ANOVA. Subsequently, the measurements were subjected to paired t-tests at the 95% level of significance with Bonferroni correction. A significant reduction of pyriforme and an alveolar crest above the maxillary 1st molar were discerned in frontal analysis on the cleft side. In the axial view, the zygomatic arch, malar, porion and alveolar crest at the molar region were non-significant, but the alveolar crest at the premolar region (p < 0.004)) was significantly decreased. In the frontal analysis, pyriforme and the alveolar crest above the maxillary 1st molar, and, in the axial view, premolar widths, showed significant reduction when comparing the cleft vis-a-vis non-cleft sides.
