Abstract
Prurigo nodularis (PN) is a disease associated with severe chronic pruritus and therefore causes a substantial impact on quality of life. This study aimed to explore the psychosocial burden of PN and the coping mechanisms employed by affected individuals to manage symptoms associated with the condition. In summary, patients reported a profound impact on various aspects of their lives, including mental wellbeing, relationships, self-perception, leisure activities, occupation, sleep patterns and clothing choices. Further, the disease led to social avoidance and isolation in patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Itch, common in dermatological conditions, is often accompanied by psychological distress and reduced quality of life. However, research on the prevalence and associated factors of itch with skin conditions in general populations is limited. OBJECTIVES This cross-sectional study aimed to determine the lifetime prevalence of itch with skin conditions and to identify its associated factors in individuals aged > 50 years. METHODS Participants from the Rotterdam Study, a population-based cohort, were interviewed to assess whether they had ever had an itchy skin condition, defining lifetime itch with skin conditions. Over 20 demographic, lifestyle, dermatological and nondermatological factors were recorded. Multivariable logistic regression analysis explored associations between these factors and itch with skin conditions, reported as odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS In total, 5246 eligible participants were included (age range 51-100 years, median age 67; 56.0% women). The results revealed a -lifetime prevalence of 33.7% for itch with skin conditions. Factors significantly associated with itch were female sex (OR 1.26, 95% CI 1.11-1.43), body mass index (1.02, 1.01-1.03), self-reported atopic dermatitis (4.29, 3.74-4.92), presence of atopic dermatitis (1.97, 1.60-2.43), self--reported psoriasis (2.31, 1.77-3.01), presence of psoriasis (2.11, 1.55-2.87), self-reported dry skin (1.95, 1.73-2.20), self-reported asthma (1.40, 1.08-1.83), renal impairment (1.45, 1.17-1.79), and clinically relevant depressive (1.85, 1.52-2.25) and anxiety symptoms (1.36, 1.11-1.66). CONCLUSIONS This study reveals a substantial one-third lifetime prevalence of itch with skin conditions in individuals aged > 50 years. Significant associations with diverse lifestyle, demographic, dermatological and, intriguingly, nondermatological factors, including renal impairment, imply additional contributors to induction or persistence of itch in individuals with skin conditions.

Abstract
STUDY QUESTION How does the gut bacteriome differ based on mood disorders (MDs) in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and how can the gut bacteriome contribute to the associations between these two conditions? SUMMARY ANSWER Women with PCOS who also have MDs exhibited a distinct gut bacteriome with reduced alpha diversity and a significantly lower abundance of Butyricicoccus compared to women with PCOS but without MDs. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Women with PCOS have a 4- to 5-fold higher risk of having MDs compared to women without PCOS. The gut bacteriome has been suggested to influence the pathophysiology of both PCOS and MDs. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION This population-based cohort study was derived from the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1966 (NFBC1966), which includes all women born in Northern Finland in 1966. Women with PCOS who donated a stool sample at age 46 years (n = 102) and two BMI-matched controls for each case (n = 205), who also responded properly to the MD criteria scales, were included. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS A total of 102 women with PCOS and 205 age- and BMI-matched women without PCOS were included. Based on the validated MD criteria, the subjects were categorized into MD or no-MD groups, resulting in the following subgroups: PCOS no-MD (n = 84), PCOS MD (n = 18), control no-MD (n = 180), and control MD (n = 25). Clinical characteristics were assessed at age 31 years and age 46 years, and stool samples were collected from the women at age 46 years, followed by the gut bacteriome analysis using 16 s rRNA sequencing. Alpha diversity was assessed using observed features and Shannon's index, with a focus on genera, and beta diversity was characterized using principal components analysis (PCA) with Bray-Curtis Dissimilarity at the genus level. Associations between the gut bacteriome and PCOS-related clinical features were explored by Spearman's correlation coefficient. A P-value for multiple testing was adjusted with the Benjamini-Hochberg false discovery rate (FDR) method. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE We observed changes in the gut bacteriome associated with MDs, irrespective of whether the women also had PCOS. Similarly, PCOS MD cases showed a lower alpha diversity (Observed feature, PCOS no-MD, median 272; PCOS MD, median 208, FDR = 0.01; Shannon, PCOS no-MD, median 5.95; PCOS MD, median 5.57, FDR = 0.01) but also a lower abundance of Butyricicoccus (log-fold changeAnalysis of Compositions of Microbiomes with Bias Correction (ANCOM-BC)=-0.90, FDRANCOM-BC=0.04) compared to PCOS no-MD cases. In contrast, in the controls, the gut bacteriome did not differ based on MDs. Furthermore, in the PCOS group, Sutterella showed positive correlations with PCOS-related clinical parameters linked to obesity (BMI, r2=0.31, FDR = 0.01; waist circumference, r2=0.29, FDR = 0.02), glucose metabolism (fasting glucose, r2=0.46, FDR < 0.001; fasting insulin, r2=0.24, FDR = 0.05), and gut barrier integrity (zonulin, r2=0.25, FDR = 0.03). LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION Although this was the first study to assess the link between the gut bacteriome and MDs in PCOS and included the largest PCOS dataset for the gut microbiome analysis, the number of subjects stratified by the presence of MDs was limited when contrasted with previous studies that focused on MDs in a non-selected population. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS The main finding is that gut bacteriome is associated with MDs irrespective of the PCOS status, but PCOS may also modulate further the connection between the gut bacteriome and MDs. Abstract
The impact of adult acne on patients' mental health has not been widely studied, and most studies have been conducted within specific patient populations. The current study examines the association between adult acne and psychological symptoms in the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1966 (NFBC1966) (n = 1,907). The cohort members attended a health study at the age of 46 years, which comprised a whole-body examination performed by dermatologists to identify acne, and answering the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II), Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and 15-dimensional measure of health-related quality of life (15D HRQoL) questionnaires. The prevalence of adult acne was 7.9% (n = 150) with no statistical differences between the sexes. Cases with acne presented more (18.9%) depressive symptoms (BDI-II > 14 points) compared with those without acne (9.7%) (p < 0.001). In adjusted logistic regression analyses, those with acne had a 2-fold risk (odds ratio (OR) 2.08, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) 1.23-3.38) of having depressive symptoms compared with controls. In conclusion, when treating adult acne patients, it is important to recognize the increased risk of mental health symptoms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hand eczema (HE) is a common dermatological disorder with considerable effect on the health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The data on mental comorbidities of HE is sparse and mostly studied among selected patient groups. OBJECTIVES We aimed to investigate symptoms of depression and anxiety in patients with HE in general population. METHODS Study subjects (n = 6695) belonging to the Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1966 Study (NFBC1966) responded to an extensive health questionnaire including questions about HE. Depression and anxiety symptoms were evaluated according to the Hopkins Symptom Checklist-25 (HSCL-25). RESULTS Having ever suffered from HE was reported by 853 (12.8%) study subjects. Symptoms scores of depression were significantly higher among (n = 172, 20.3%) HE subjects compared with (n = 884, 15.4%) subjects without HE (Odds ratio [OR] 1.40, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.17-1.68, P < 0.001). Correspondingly, symptoms scores of anxiety were also more common among (n = 90, 10.6%) HE subjects than among (n = 448, 7.8%) subjects without HE (OR 1.40, 95% CI: 1.10-1.78, P = 0.007). In an adjusted model, the associations remained statistically significant (OR 1.30, 95% CI: 1.08-1.57, P = 0.007 and OR 1.34, 95% CI: 1.04-1.72, P = 0.021, respectively). CONCLUSIONS Symptoms associated with mental health should be taken into account when managing patients with HE.

Abstract
Chronic pruritus (CP) (ie, itch that persists for more than 6 weeks) poses significant challenges to patients' health and quality of life. It is a common reason for visits to dermatologists and general practitioners and can be caused by a range of conditions, including systemic diseases such as chronic kidney disease or liver diseases, malignancies, neuropathic conditions, and dermatoses such as atopic dermatitis. CP often does not develop in parallel with the course of the disease and can become an entity of its own, which must be treated with antipruritic drugs, even if the underlying cause is already under therapy. Depending on the etiology of CP, different pathways in the pathogenesis have been analyzed recently, following which new treatments have been developed and tested in randomized controlled trials. This article discusses the recent results of these studies and highlights how best to manage health care for patients with CP.
