Abstract
BACKGROUND β-Elemene (IUPAC name: (1 S,2 S,4 R)-1-ethenyl-1-methyl-2,4-bis(prop-1-en-2-yl) cyclohexane), is a natural compound found in turmeric root. Studies have demonstrated its diverse biological functions, including its anti-tumor properties, which have been extensively investigated. However, these have not yet been reviewed. The aim of this review was to provide a comprehensive summary of β-elemene research, with respect to disease treatment. METHODS β-Elemene-related articles were found in PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases to systematically summarize its structure, pharmacokinetics, metabolism, and pharmacological activity. We also searched the Traditional Chinese Medicine System Pharmacology database for therapeutic targets of β-elemene. We further combined these targets with the relevant literature for KEGG and GO analyses. RESULTS Studies on the molecular mechanisms underlying β-elemene activity indicate that it regulates multiple pathways, including STAT3, MAPKs, Cyclin-dependent kinase 1/cyclin B, Notch, PI3K/AKT, reactive oxygen species, METTL3, PTEN, p53, FAK, MMP, TGF-β/Smad signaling. Through these molecular pathways, β-elemene has been implicated in tumor cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion and improving the immune microenvironment. Additionally, β-elemene increases chemotherapeutic drug sensitivity and reverses resistance by inhibiting DNA damage repair and regulating pathways including CTR1, pak1, ERK1/2, ABC transporter protein, Prx-1 and ERCC-1. Nonetheless, owing to its lipophilicity and low bioavailability, additional structural modifications could improve the efficacy of this drug. CONCLUSION β-Elemene exhibits low toxicity with good safety, inhibiting various tumor types via diverse mechanisms in vivo and in vitro. When combined with chemotherapeutic drugs, it enhances efficacy, reduces toxicity, and improves tumor killing. Thus, β-elemene has vast potential for research and development.

Abstract
β-Elemene, a compound extracted from Chinese herb Curcuma wenyujin, has been demonstrated with antitumor effects in various cancers, including glioblastoma (GBM), a primary brain tumor with high morbidity and mortality. In this study, we reported a bisamino derivative of β-Elemene, 2, 2'-((1R, 3R, 4S)-4-methyl-4-vinylcyclohexane-1, 3-diyl) bis(prop-2-en-1-amine) (compound 1), displayed a better anti-GBM effect than β-Elemene with lower concentration. GBM cell lines (C6 and U87) were treated with compound 1 and subsequently analyzed by several assays. Compound 1 significantly inhibited the migration of C6 and U87 cells based on wound healing assay, transwell assay and inverted migration assay. Furthermore, colony formation assay, immunostaining and flow cytometry assays revealed that compound 1 significantly inhibited the proliferation of GBM cells. In addition, compound 1 induced the apoptosis of GBM cells. Mechanistically, we found Yes-associated protein (YAP) was down-regulated in compound 1-treated GBM cells, and the overexpression of YAP partially rescued the anti-GBM effects of compound 1. Finally, compound 1 suppresses the GBM growth in xenograft model through inactivation YAP signaling. Taken together, these results reveal that a novel derivative of β-Elemene, compound 1, exhibits more potent anti-GBM activity than β-Elemene through inactivating YAP signaling pathway, which will provide novel strategies for the treatment of GBM.

Abstract
Ring finger protein 135 (RNF135) is an E3 ubiquitin ligase with RING finger domains that plays a crucial role in the development of several forms of cancer. Neither the expression profile of RNF135 nor its importance in the diagnosis of pan-cancer have been elucidated as of yet. With the aid of The Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Expression Omnibus, we have fully mapped the expression profiles, prognostic relevance, genetic modification, immune cell infiltration, and tumor heterogeneity of RNF135 in 33 malignant tumors. RNF135 was expressed inconsistently in various cancers, and variations in RNF135 expression predicted survival outcomes for cancer patients. There was a strong correlation between the levels of the RNF135 genetic mutation and some tumor progression. In addition, a strong correlation was seen between RNF135 expression and immune cell infiltration, tumor mutation burden, microsatellite instability, and immunoregulators. In contrast, the correlation between RNF135 expression and triple-negative breast cancer was investigated in this study. RNF135 may boost the proliferation, migration, and invasion of TNBC cells, according to cell experiments. RNF135 might be utilized as a biomarker to anticipate how a tumor will behave and may have a significant role in how TNBC cells grow and migrate, according to the findings of this study.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To study the inhibitory effect of β-elemene on invasion and metastasis of colorectal cancer cells and its possible mechanism. METHODS Human colon cancer HCT116 cells were treated with different concentrations of β-elemene. The proliferation inhibition rate of the cells was detected by MTT assay, cell migration rate was detected by scratched assay, and cell invasion rate was evaluated by Transwell cell invasion assay. The expressions of Vimentin, E-cadherin, N-cadherin, and β-catenin were detected by Western blotting. The mRNA expressions of Vimentin, E-cadherin, N-cadherin, and β-catenin were detected by real-time PCR. RESULTS Compared with the control group, the expressions of migration rate, invasion rate, scratch healing rate, N-cadherin, and Vimentin protein of HCT116 cells were decreased after β-elemene treatment, while the expression of E-cadherin protein was increased, and the inhibition rate of cell proliferation was increased (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS β-Elemene may inhibit cell proliferation and invasion and metastasis by inhibiting EMT signaling pathway in human colon cancer cell line HCT116.

Abstract
Background With the development of big data, big data interpenetrate in every person's life. Health care is no exception to this trend, especially in regard to nursing analytics. The data that is analyzed and leveraged in this field is gathered from a variety of sources, including electronic health records (EHRs), medical histories, provider notes and mobile applications, creating an accumulation of personalized health information around each individual. Objective To explore the effect of the network-based positive psychological nursing model combined with elemene injection on negative emotions, immune function and quality of life (QOL) in patients with lung cancer (LC) undergoing chemotherapy. Methods The clinical data of 90 LC patients who underwent chemotherapy in our hospital from December 2020 to December 2021 were retrospectively analyzed, and the patients were equally split into experimental group (EG) and control group (CG) according to the order of enrollment. The patients in CG received routine nursing intervention during chemotherapy, while those in EG received the network-based positive psychological nursing model combined with elemene injection to compare negative emotions, immune function and quality of life (QOL) between the two groups. Results Compared with CG, EG had notably higher immune function indexes (P < 0.001), lower serum VEGF and MMP-2 levels (P < 0.001), lower HAMA and HAMD scores (P < 0.05), and higher scores of PTGI, physiological function, psychological function, social function and physical function (P < 0.001). Conclusion The network-based positive psychological nursing model combined with elemene injection is a reliable method to enhance the immune function and QOL of LC patients undergoing chemotherapy and alleviate their negative emotions, which has a high clinical application value.
