Аnalysis of the exposure of the medical-preventive toothpaste containing bicarbonate and sodium fluoride on the status of oral cavity in inflammatory diseases of fabric of parоdontium in young patients (clinical and laboratory research)

Clinical efficacy of hydroxyapatite toothpaste containing Polyol Germanium Complex (PGC) with threonine in the treatment of dentine hypersensitivity

Introduction

This study aims to evaluate the clinical efficacy of a hydroxyapatite toothpaste containing a Polyol Germanium Complex with threonine in treating dentine hypersensitivity. The study also seeks to monitor the quality of life of the treated dentine hypersensitivity sufferers.

Materials and methods

This study is a randomized clinical trial with a total of 120 patients with dentine hypersensitivity. All participants were divided into three groups: patients assigned to the GARDA SILK toothpaste; patients receiving the conventional fluoride toothpaste for comparison purposes, and patients asked to brush their teeth without toothpaste. The modified Quigley-Heine Plaque Index was assessed at the baseline and after treatment. Sensitivity was assessed at baseline, 3, 7 and 14 days using the air stimulus (Schiff Index). The impact of dentine hypersensitivity on the quality of life was assessed before and after the treatment with the Russian version of the Dentine Hypersensitivity Experience Questionnaire (DHEQ).

Results

After 14 days of treatment, the mean Plaque Index scores in Groups 1 and 2 did not exceed 1 and averaged 0.72 ± 0.249 and 0.86 ± 0.213, respectively. In Group 3, the mean Plaque Index was significantly higher (1.04 ± 0.070, p < 0.05). The mean Schiff sensitivity scores in Group 1 decreased to 2.45 ± 0.42 at 3 days, 1.84 ± 0.26 at 7 days, and 1.02 ± 0.34 at 14 days. Group 2 exhibited smaller reductions in the Schiff index at all time points. In this group, Schiff scores dropped to 2.67 ± 0.28 after 3 days, 2.34 ± 0.44 after 7 days, and 1.93 ± 0.36 after 14 days.

Conclusion

The GARDA SILK hydroxyapatite toothpaste with a threonine-containing Polyol Germanium Complex (PGC) is effective in maintaining good oral hygiene, reducing dentine hypersensitivity, and improving the quality of life of dentine hypersensitivity sufferers.

[Assessment of dental status, monitoring of individual hygiene and quality of life of patients with jaw defects in combination with medical osteonecrosis]

THE AIM OF THE STUDY

Was to study the dental status, control individual hygiene and assess the quality of life of patients with jaw defects in combination with medical osteonecrosis at the stages of orthopedic rehabilitation.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

38 patients were examined, divided into two groups of 19 people aged 49 to 74 years (average age - 61.5±4.25 years). The main group was comprised of patients after resection of the jaws for malignant neoplasms. The comparison group consisted of patients with partial tooth loss who do not have a history of cancer. All participants used individual hygiene products in the form of parodontax Complete protection toothpaste and parodontax Extra 0.2% mouthwash, along with dental prosthetics, according to a certain scheme. The analysis was performed at the beginning of the study, after 7, 14 days and 2 months. The results of prosthetics and the quality of life of patients in both groups were evaluated using a questionnaire developed by us, which allows us to evaluate various parameters (pain, functions, sensations, social activity).

RESULTS

The dynamics of the values of the hygiene index, bleeding gums and qualitative analysis of mixed saliva confirm the positive effect of regular use of recommended hygiene products on the oral tissue. There was an increase in the number of buccal epithelial cells with a low degree of destruction, which indicates the restoration of the barrier properties of the epithelial layer. The orthopedic rehabilitation performed against the background of the use of personal hygiene products showed a positive dynamics of all the studied parameters. After applying prosthetics, patients in the control group noted the restoration of chewing and speech, improved appearance and mood.

CONCLUSION

Orthopedic treatment of patients after jaw resection in combination with the complex use of PO and OP allows to solve the issue of their functional, cosmetic and social rehabilitation.

[The increased sensitivity of dentin: the mechanisms of remineralization using toothpaste with tin fluoride]

The purpose of the study was clinical and laboratory analysis of the remineralizing properties and clinical efficacy of the course application of the Sensodyne Rapid Relief therapeutic and prophylactic toothpaste for sensitive teeth with tin fluoride. The study involved 50 overwise healthy patients aged from 18 to 25 years diagnosed with a localized form of hyperesthesia of hard dental tissues and no signs of acute inflammation of periodontal tissues. After 7 days of clinical observation and daily use of the toothpaste the hygienic condition of the oral cavity in all patients improved: oral hygiene index was 1.02±0.2 units; gum inflammation index (PMA) - 8.0±1.5%; the absence of hyperesthesia was diagnosed (1 point, p≤0.05). Examination of patients after 14 and 28 days confirmed the absence of pain in 100%, the organoleptic properties of the toothpaste under investigation were also highly appreciated by the participants. A laboratory study showed that patients have an increase in the pH value of mixed saliva and a decrease in its buffer capacity by 13.4±2.25%, which contributes to a more effective remineralizing effect of calcium ions by calcium-binding proteins of mixed saliva. The concentration of fluoride ions in the saliva of patients of both groups increased by average rate of 34±0.5% per week. The combination of tin and fluoride is more effective than fluoride alone. The presence of tin ions causes a higher ability of fluorides to bind with calcium ions on the surface of the dentin and dentinal tubules, inhibits the process of demineralization, enhances the additive interaction of the ions forming the acid-resistant layer on the surface of the dentin and dentinal tubules, leading to a decrease in hyperesthesia of the teeth.
