Abstract
Malignant lesions and tuberculosis coexisting at the same anatomical site in a patient are extremely uncommon. We present a case of a 53-year-old female with cervical lymphadenitis tuberculosis combined with metastatic papillary thyroid carcinoma. Thyroidectomy was performed on the patient with central and lateral neck dissection. The patient received anti-tuberculosis medication and radioactive iodine ablation. No recurrence was observed during a 2-year follow-up period.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Tuberculosis is one of the infectious diseases with greater morbidity and mortality worldwide. Cancer causes an important immunosuppression with increased risk of infections. There is an enlarged bidirectional incidence between tuberculosis and cancer, mainly due to latent tuberculosis. GUIDELINES REVIEW There is great discrepancy between recommendations for screening and prophylaxis of latent tuberculosis in patients with solid tumors and systemic cancer therapy among different medical societies and guidelines. Most infectious diseases guidelines recommend it, while most oncology guidelines do not. DISCUSSION Patients with solid tumours generally have a limited life expectancy and a state of intermittent immunosuppression, resulting in a lower risk of tuberculosis reactivation than other risky populations. There is a lack of prospective and retrospective studies analysing the benefit of screening and prophylaxis in this population. The first step is to study the incidence of active tuberculosis in this population to estimate the real magnitude of the problem.

Abstract
Tuberculosis (TB) continues to pose a grave threat to global health, despite relentless eradication efforts. In 1882, Robert Koch discovered that Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is the bacterium responsible for causing tuberculosis. It is a fact that tuberculosis has claimed the lives of more than one billion people in the last few decades. It is imperative that we must take immediate and effective action to increase resources for TB research and treatment. Effective TB treatments demand an extensive investment of both time and finances, often requiring 6-9 months of rigorous antibiotic therapy. The most efficient way to control tuberculosis is by receiving a childhood Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccination. Despite years of research on vaccine development, we still do not have any new approved vaccine for tuberculosis, except BCG, which is partially effective in young children. This review discusses briefly the available treatment for tuberculosis and remarkable advancements in glycoconjugate-based TB vaccine developments in recent years (2013-2024) and offers valuable direction for future research priorities.

Abstract
Background Tuberculosis (TB) leads to an increased risk of lung cancer (LC). However, the carcinogenetic mechanism of TB remains unclear. We constructed gene co-expression networks and carried out whole-exome sequencing (WES) to identify key modules, hub genes, and the most recurrently mutated genes involved in the pathogenesis of TB-associated LC. Methods The data used in this study were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and WES. First, we screened LC-related genes in GSE43458 and TB-related genes in GSE83456 by weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA). Subsequently, we screened differentially expressed genes related to LC and TB in GSE42834. We also performed WES of 15 patients (TB, n = 5; LC, n = 5; TB+LC, n = 5), constructed mutational profiles, and identified differences in the profiles of the three groups for further investigation. Results We identified 278 hub genes associated with tumorigenesis of pulmonary TB. Moreover, WES identified 112 somatic mutations in 25 genes in the 15 patients. Finally, four common genes (EGFR, HSPA2, CECR2, and LAMA3) were confirmed in a Venn diagram of the 278 hub genes and the mutated genes from WES. KEGG analysis revealed various pathway changes. The PI3K-AKT signaling pathway was the most enriched pathway, and all four genes are included in this pathway. Thus, these four genes and the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway may play important roles in LC. Conclusion Several potential genes and pathways related to TB-associated LC were identified, including EGFR and three target genes not found in previous studies. These genes are related to cell proliferation, colony formation, migration, and invasion, and provide a direction for future research into the mechanisms of LC co-occurring with TB. The PI3K-AKT signaling pathway was also identified as a potential key pathway involved in LC development.

Abstract
Cancer is a leading cause of death globally and has been associated with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). The angiogenesis-related VEGFR-2 is a common target between cancer and Mtb. Here, we aimed to synthesize and validate potent dual human VEGFR-2 inhibitors as anticancer and anti-mycobacterial agents. Two series of 1,2,4-triazole-based compounds (6a-l and 11a-e) were designed and synthesized through a molecular hybridization approach. Activities of all synthesized compounds were evaluated against human VEGFR-2 in addition to drug-sensitive, multidrug-resistant and extensive-drug resistant Mtb. Compounds 6a, 6c, 6e, 6f, 6h, 6l, 11a, 11d and 11e showed promising inhibitory effect on VEGFR-2 (IC50 = 0.15 - 0.39 µM), anti-proliferative activities against cancerous cells and low cytotoxicity against normal cells. The most potent compounds (6e and 11a) increased apoptosis percentage. Additionally, compounds 6h, 6i, 6l and 11c showed the highest activities against all Mtb strains, and thus were evaluated against enoyl-acyl carrier protein reductase (InhA) which is essential for Mtb cell wall synthesis. Interestingly, the compounds showed excellent InhA inhibition activities with IC50 range of 1.3 - 4.7 µM. Docking study revealed high binding affinities toward targeted enzymes; human VEGFR-2 and Mtb InhA. In conclusion, 1,2,4-triazole analogues are suggested as potent anticancer and antimycobacterial agents via inhibition of human VEGFR-2 and Mtb InhA.

Abstract
RATIONALE The global prevalence of leprosy has decreased substantially, and cases of leprosy infection are extremely rare in China. In this report, we present a case of recurrent choriocarcinoma complicated by leprosy infection during chemotherapy. PATIENT CONCERNS A 24-year-old Chinese woman (gravida 3, para 2) presented to a local hospital with vaginal bleeding. Her medical history included a previous diagnosis of hydatidiform mole. DIAGNOSES, INTERVENTIONS AND OUTCOMES The patient was diagnosed with choriocarcinoma and received chemotherapy in 6 cycles. Shortly after the initial treatment was completed, the disease recurred twice with resistance to multiple chemotherapeutic agents. In her second recurrence of choriocarcinoma, she was diagnosed with leprosy with many cutaneous nodules throughout her entire body. The patient was administered chemical treatment for leprosy with the multidrug therapy regimen after being diagnosed. To prevent exacerbating the infection, no immunotherapy was utilized to treat cancer, and the infection was well-controlled at the conclusion of anticancer therapy. LESSONS Because of immunological reduction, cancer patients are susceptible to a variety of infections. For patients with cancer, prevention and early detection of rare infectious diseases should receive special attention. Immunotherapy must be used with caution when treating patients with cancer and infections.

Abstract
Background The incidence and risk of both lung cancer (LC) and tuberculosis (TB) are increasing rapidly. These two diseases frequently exist together and can influence the incidence and risk of each other. The aim of the current review was to summarize the incidence and risk of LC in TB patients, and vice versa, short out research gap, and contemplate future research perspectives. Methodology. PubMed and Scopus databases, and Google Scholar search engine were searched for epidemiological studies that investigated the incidence and risk of TB and LC, published since January 2011 to April 2022, and written in English. We used the searching keyword "tuberculosis" combined with "lung cancer" and associated medical subject heading (MeSH) to retrieve eligible research articles. We retrieved information's regarding the diagnosis of TB and LC, confounders, the associations of TB and LC, and incidence and risks of each other. Results We found higher incidence rate and risks (1.64 to 6 times higher) of LC in TB patients in comparison to non-TB participants. However, the incidence rate and risks of TB in LC patients were comparatively low. Male patients were exhibited higher risks than female. The medical comorbidities, smoking habits, and age can also influence the associations and risks of LC in TB patients or vice versa. Conclusion Our summarized studies might suggest that existing active TB may increase the incidence and risk of LC. However, large prospective cohort study is warranted to explore the real scenario worldwide.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To estimate the prevalence of tuberculosis (TB) infection among patients receiving cancer chemotherapy and to identify risk factors for latent TB reactivation. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted at a tertiary care center in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Patients were surveyed for TB risk factors, their records were reviewed for previous TB infection or disease, and blood samples were collected for interferon-gamma release assays (IGRAs). RESULTS A total of 203 patients were included. One hundred and twenty-five were females (62%). Median age was 52 years, and mean age was significantly higher in positive IGRA patients compared to negative IGRA (57.32 vs. 47.27; p = 0.009). Twenty-five patients (12.3%) had evidence of TB infection, 16 (68%) among them had a latent TB infection, while the rest received treatment for an active TB disease. The rate of active disease among cancer patients was 8 (3.9%). Additionally, 92% (23) of those with positive IGRA had solid cancers (p = 0.007), and all active TB cases occurred in this group of solid cancers. CONCLUSION TB prevalence was higher in chemotherapy patients compared to the general Saudi population. Patients with solid tumors and older age had a greater risk of developing the infection, signifying the importance of preventing TB and malignancy coexistence by initiating screening policies in cancer patients.

Abstract
Tuberculosis is an endemic disease in India for decades, and its coexistence in the patients with malignancy cannot be ignored. The non-specific uptake of 2-deoxy-2-[fluorine-18] fluoro-d-glucose in active infection and malignancy can affect the diagnosis and management of patients. However, characteristic anatomical features of the lesion aid not only in its localization but also in diagnosis. We share an interesting case of necrotizing granulomatous inflammation of dorsal spine mimicking skeletal metastases in a treated case of carcinoma cervix.

Abstract
Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the leading causes of death due to its being an infectious disease, caused by the airborne pathogen Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb). Approximately one-fourth of the world’s population is infected with latent M.tb, and TB is considered a global threat killing over 4000 people every day. The risk of TB susceptibility and mortality is significantly increased in individuals aged 65 and older, confirming that the elderly represent one of the largest reservoirs for M.tb infection. The elderly population faces many challenges that increase their risk of developing respiratory diseases, including TB. The challenges the elderly face in this regard include the following: decreased lung function, immuno-senescence, inflammaging, adverse drug effects, low tolerance to anti-TB drugs, lack of suitable diagnoses/interventions, and age-associated comorbidities. In order to find new therapeutic strategies to maintain lung homeostasis and resistance to respiratory infections as we age, it is necessary to understand the molecular and cellular mechanisms behind natural lung aging. This review focuses primarily on why the elderly are more susceptible to TB disease and death, with a focus on pulmonary function and comorbidities.

Abstract
Tuberculosis and malignant neoplasms are a global threat, these diseases claim millions of lives and cause tremendous suffering to people worldwide. Tuberculosis can mask cancer and create preconditions for carcinogenesis. The article presents a clinical case of tongue cancer in a patient with pulmonary tuberculosis. Patient B.N., 45 years old, was admitted to the FSBI Novosibirsk Tuberculosis Research Institute with complaints of a "sore place" on the tongue, pain in the right half of the tongue, enlargement of the submandibular lymph nodes on the right The tongue hurts for about 1,5 years, but over the last 2 months, condition has worsened. The patient noticed an increase in the size of lesion on the tongue and increased pain, especially during meals (he can eat only after pain relief, for which he takes Nimesulide 4 pills a day).
