The top 100 most cited articles on COVID-19 vaccine: a bibliometric analysis

This study aimed to uncover the current major topics regarding COVID-19 vaccine, and systematically evaluate the development trends for future research. The top 100 most cited original articles on COVID-19 vaccine from January 2020 to October 2022 were identified from Web of Science Core Collection database. CiteSpace (v6.1.R3) was adopted for bibliometric analysis with statistical and visual analysis. The number of citations ranged from 206 to 5881, with a median of 349.5. The USA (n = 56), England (n = 33), and China (n = 16) ranked the top three countries/regions in terms of the number of publications. Harvard Medical School (centrality = 0.71), Boston Children's Hospital (centrality = 0.67), and Public Health England (centrality = 0.57) were the top three institutions leading the way on COVID-19 vaccine research. The New England of medicine journal dominated with 22 articles in the 32 high-quality journals. The three most frequent keywords were immunization (centrality = 0.25), influenza vaccination (centrality = 0.21), and coronavirus (centrality = 0.18). Cluster analysis of keywords showed that the top four categories were protection efficacy, vaccine hesitancy, spike protein, and second vaccine dose (Q value = 0.535, S value = 0.879). Cluster analysis of cited references showed that top eight largest categories were Cov-2 variant, clinical trial, large integrated health system, COV-2 rhesus macaque, mRNA vaccine, vaccination intent, phase II study, and Cov-2 omicron variant (Q value = 0.672, S value = 0.794). The research on COVID-19 vaccine is currently the hottest topic in academic community. At present, COVID-19 vaccines researches have focused on vaccine efficacy, vaccine hesitancy, and the efficacy of current vaccines on omicron variants. However, how to increase vaccine uptake, focus on mutations in the spike protein, evaluate of the efficacy of booster vaccine, and how effective new vaccines under pre- and clinical development against omicron will be spotlight in the future.

Research Hotspots in Psoriasis: A Bibliometric Study of the Top 100 Most Cited Articles

(1) Introduction: Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated disease that negatively impacts patients' quality of life and predisposes them to cardiovascular or metabolic diseases. This paper aims to summarize the knowledge structure and future directions in psoriasis research by means of bibliometrics. (2) Material and methods: The Thomson Reuters Web of Science database was interrogated using preestablished keywords. A list of the top 100 most cited articles focusing solely on psoriasis was compiled and analyzed. VOSviewer software was used to assess and visualize collaboration networks, citation, co-citation and co-wording analysis, and bibliographic coupling. (3) Results: The articles were written by 902 authors from 20 countries and were published in 31 journals. The United States was at the forefront of this field. Griffiths, CEM had the most citations, while the most prolific institution was Rockefeller University, New York City. Pathogenesis, especially key-pathogenic factors, immune pathways, and epidemiology were the most discussed topics. Work published in the last decade focused on the use of biologics. Keywords such as "quality of life", "efficacy", and "necrosis-factor alpha" have been widely used. (4) Conclusion: Research interest regarding psoriasis is high, leading to the rapid development of this field. Treatment modalities, especially novel-targeted therapies, immune pathways, and an integrative approach to such cases are receiving great interest and represent research hotspots in the future.

Defining genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, epigenetic, and phenotypic biomarkers with prognostic capability in male breast cancer: a systematic review

Although similar phenotypically, there is evidence that male and female breast cancer differ in their molecular landscapes. In this systematic review, we consolidated all existing prognostic biomarker data in male breast cancer spanning genetics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and epigenetics, and phenotypic features of prognostic value from articles published over a 29-year period (March 16, 1992, to May 1, 2021). We identified knowledge gaps in the existing literature, discussed limitations of the included studies, and outlined potential approaches for translational biomarker discovery and validation in male breast cancer. We also recognised STC2, DDX3, and DACH1 as underexploited markers of male-specific prognostic value in breast cancer. Finally, beyond describing the cumulative knowledge on the extensively researched markers oestrogen receptor-α, progesterone receptor, HER2, androgen receptor, and BRCA2, we highlighted ATM, CCND1, FGFR2, GATA3, HIF1-α, MDM2, TP53, and c-Myc as well studied predictors of poor survival that also aligned with several hallmarks of cancer.

A bibliometric analysis of the top 100 most cited papers and research trends in breast cancer related BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes

This study aimed to identify, characterize, and map the important attributes of the top 100 most cited papers on BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes. The scientific literature on BRCA1 and BRCA2 was searched in the Web of Science Core Collection database using the keywords "BRCA1" OR "BRCA2" (Title). The top 100 most cited papers were selected based on citations. The obtained data were exported into HistCiteTM, RStudio, and VOSviewer software for prerequisite analysis. The top 100 most cited papers on BRCA1 and BRCA2 were authored by 932 authors from 24 countries and published in 27 journals. These papers were cited 79,713 times, ranging from 441 to 4671 citations. The highly cited paper was cited 4671 times and published in Science (1994). The leading author, journal, publication year, institution, and country were Easton DF (n = 16), Nature Genetics (n = 11), 2002 (n = 11), University of Pennsylvania (n = 17), and the USA (n = 76), respectively. The results show that all the top 100 papers were produced in developed countries. The collaboration index among the authors was 9.49. The most frequently appeared keywords were ovarian-cancer, breast-cancer, mutations, gene, and familial breast. In recent times, the trend topics were patients, mutations, carriers, ovarian, and risk.

Mapping of global research on familial Mediterranean fever: a SCI-Expanded-based bibliometric analysis

BACKGROUND

Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is a disease of the innate immune system. The disease is prevalent in the Mediterranean region. A comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the published literature on FMF indexed in the SCI-Expanded is lacking.

OBJECTIVE

To review the global research trend, developments, leading authors, journals, institutions, and countries, and visualization mapping of the published scientific literature on FMF.

METHODS

The data were obtained from SCI-Expanded of the WoSCC database. The obtained data were analyzed using Bibliometrix: An R-tool and an online Bibliometric tool. P-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.

RESULTS

In this study, a total of 1665 publications (research article, 92% and review, 8%) on FMF were analyzed and characterized. These publications were authored by 5630 authors, and published in 465 journals. The scientific production in FMF research has been increasing over time (p < 0.0001), with scientific annual growth of 3.96%. The most frequent year of publications was 2021 (n = 98), while the most attractive and published journal in FMF research was Rheumatology International (n = 116). The leading institution was Hacettepe University. The top ranked and most cited country in FMF research was Turkey. In total, the authors' collaboration index was 3.47.

CONCLUSION

Generally, FMF scientific research production has increased over the last two decades. The most studied research areas in FMF were rheumatology, general internal medicine and genetics heredity. The most studied recent trend topics in FMF research were validity, reliability, endothelial dysfunction, management, and recommendations. Moreover, regional collaboration between less active countries should be extended in order to expand FMF-related research and thus prevent and control the disease in the near future.
