Abstract
BACKGROUND Since objective stifness measures are not consistent with the patients' perception and its correlation with the clinical severity of neck pain is not clear, novel studies assessing the clinical relevance of muscle stiffness are needed. OBJECTIVES To analyze the correlation among psychological factors, clinical severity indicators, and muscle stiffness in neck muscles in patients with chronic mechanical neck pain, and compare these factors with asymptomatic controls. METHODS A cross-sectional observational study was conducted. Participants included cases with chronic neck pain and asymptomatic controls, assessed for muscle stiffness using shear wave elastography, psychological health (anxiety and kinesiophobia), and clinical severity. Data analysis involved correlation matrices and comparison between groups. RESULTS Although no significant differences in levator scapulae stiffness were observed between groups (p > 0.05), patients exhibited significantly increased stiffness in the anterior scalene and cervical multifidus muscles (p = 0.009 and p = 0.040, respectively). STAI scores were significantly higher in patients for both subscales (STAI-S p = 0.002 and STAI-T p < 0.001), but no kinesiophobic behaviors differences were found (p > 0.05). Significant correlations between pain chronicity, intensity, disability, and psychological factors were confirmed. Notably, the levator scapulae stiffness was positively associated with disability, anxiety, and kinesiophobia (all p < 0.01). However, the anterior scalene and cervical multifidus stiffness, even if significantly associated with demographic factors (p < 0.05), were not associated with clinical or psychological outcomes. CONCLUSION The findings underscore the intertwined nature of psychological factors and muscle stiffness in chronic neck pain, suggesting the need for integrated approaches in treatment that consider both physical and psychological dimensions.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to analyze the incidence of neuromuscular coordination disorders and upper limb muscle strength in people with functional disorders of the cervical and cervicothoracic spine. A total of 407 participants took part in the study. The level of kinesiophobia was assessed using the Tampa scale. For cervical spine dysfunction, the pain was measured using the visual analogue scale (VAS) and the cervical disability index (NDI). Neuromuscular control was tested using the Deep Cervical Neck Flexor test with the Stabilizer device. Upper limb muscle strength was measured using a dynamometer test. The data obtained revealed a correlation between higher Tampa scale scores and most of the variables assessed. A positive correlation between age (rho = 0.27; p < 0.001), pain (rho = 0.43; p < 0.001), and NDI (rho = 0.43; p < 0.001) was registered. A negative relationship was found between neuromuscular coordination (rho = 0.41; p < 0.001) and muscle strength of most muscles(rho - 0.14 to -0.28, p < 0.01). Higher Tampa scale values correlate with poorer neuromuscular coordination, older age, pain, weaker NDI score, and strength of some upper limb muscles in the cervical and cervicothoracic spine functional impairment group. There is no correlation between kinesiophobia presence and gender.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aims to investigate the occurrence of postoperative kinesiophobia in patients with CSM and compare the postoperative recovery of patients with and without kinesiophobia to understand its influence on clinical outcomes in CSM. METHODS Between November 2020 and November 2022, surgical treatment was performed in the neurosurgical wards of 2 Grade III Class A general public hospitals in the Fujian Province. The demographic and disease data of the patients were collected, and patients were divided into a kinesiophobia group and non-kinesiophobia group according to the Tampa kinesiophobia Scale (TSK). The cervical dysfunction index, cervical Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) rating, self-anxiety rating, and activity of daily living rating scales were collected three months postoperatively. The influence of postoperative kinesiophobia on early rehabilitation was also analysed. RESULTS A total of 122 patients were an average age of (55.2 ± 10.3) years included in this study. The average score of kinesophobia after surgery was 41.2 ± 4.5, with an incidence of 75.4%. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age (OR = 1.105, 95% CI = 1.014-1.204), neck disability index (NDI) (OR = 1.268, 95% CI = 1.108-1.451), diabetes mellitus (OR = 0.026, 95% CI = 0.001-0.477), and Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score (OR = 0.698, 95% CI = 0.526-0.927) were associated with the occurren. CONCLUSION Doctors should be aware of kinesiophobia in patients with CSM. Education regarding kinesiophobia, strategies to avoid it, and treatment strategies using a multidisciplinary approach can improve recovery outcomes.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Chronic neck pain (CNP) is a global public health problem, with high prevalence and absenteeism rates. Central sensitization (CS) as a basis for chronic pain may play an essential role in its development and progression. It is often comorbid with low conditioned pain modulation (CPM) effects, cognitions, and psychological problems. OBJECTIVES The purposes of this study were to (1) explore the relationship between pain-related cognitions and psychological factors, CPM effects, and the central sensitization inventory (CSI) scores; and (2) determine whether cognitions and psychological factors can predict CSI scores and CPM effects in individuals with CNP. METHODS Fifty-four individuals with CNP were recruited for this cross-sectional study. The following outcome measures were evaluated: The CSI (screening tool) was compared with the cold pressor test (CPT), which was the psychophysical test used to assess the CPM; neck pain intensity using the visual analogue scale (VAS), as well as pain-related cognitions (including kinesiophobia and pain catastrophization) and psychological states (including anxiety and depression) using self-report questionnaires. RESULTS CSI score was not associated with the CPM effect (r = 0.257, p > 0.05), and no cognitions or psychological factors were associated with CPM (p > 0.05), but CSI score was moderately positively correlated with kinesiophobia (r = 0.554, p < 0.01), lowly positively correlated with pain catastrophization (r = 0.332, p = 0.017) and anxiety (r = 0.492, p < 0.01), but not depression (r = 0.207, p = 0.132). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that kinesiophobia (B = 1.308, p < 0.01) and anxiety (B = 1.806, p = 0.02) were significant positive predictors of CSI score. CONCLUSIONS The findings confirm some of our hypotheses. Accordingly, the findings inferred that the CSI does not seem to respond to CPM effect in patients with CNP effectively. In addition, CSI score was associated with cognitions and psychological factors, of which kinesiophobia and anxiety were effective predictors. In clinical practice, pain-related cognitions and psychological factors should be fully considered to manage neck pain efficiently.

Abstract
In people with nonspecific chronic spinal pain (nCSP), disability and quality of life are associated with clinical, cognitive, psychophysical, and demographic variables. However, evidence regarding the interactions between these variables is only limited to this population. Therefore, this study aims to explore path models explaining the multivariate contributions of such variables to disability and quality of life in people with nCSP. This secondary analysis uses baseline data from a randomized controlled trial including 120 participants with nCSP. Structural equation modeling was used to explore path models for the Pain Disability Index (PDI), the Short Form 36-item physical (SF-36 PC), and mental (SF-36 MC) component scores. All models included sex, pain catastrophizing, kinesiophobia, hypervigilance, and pain intensity. Additionally, the PDI and SF-36 PC models included pressure pain thresholds (PPTs) at the dominant pain site (ie, neck or low back). Significant associations were found between sex, pain cognitions, pain intensity, and PPTs. Only pain catastrophizing significantly directly influenced the PDI (P ≤ .001) and SF-36 MC (P = .014), while the direct effects on the SF-36 PC from kinesiophobia (P = .008) and pain intensity (P = .006) were also significant. However, only the combined effect of all pain cognitions on the SF-36 PC was mediated by pain intensity (P = .019). Our findings indicate that patients' pain-related cognitions have an adverse effect on their physical health-related quality of life via a negative influence on their pain intensity in people with nCSP. PERSPECTIVE: This secondary analysis details a network analysis confirming significant interactions between sex, pain cognitions, pain intensity, and PPTs in relation to disability and health-related quality of life in people with chronic spinal pain. Moreover, its findings establish the importance of pain cognitions and pain intensity for these outcomes. TRIALS REGISTRATION: Clinicaltrials.gov (NCT02098005).

Abstract
Objective Kinesiophobia is a common problem in patients with rheumatic
diseases and can cause physical inactivity, social isolation, disability, and
poor quality of life. This study aimed to evaluate kinesiophobia and associated
factors in patients with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF).
Methods A total of 38 patients diagnosed with FMF volunteered to
participate in the study. All patients were assessed using the Tampa
Kinesiophobia Scale (TKS), the International Physical Activity Questionnaire
(IPAQ), the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), and the Hospital Anxiety and
Depression Scale (HADS).
Results Thirty-three (86.8%) of the patients had TKS scores over
37, indicating high levels of kinesiophobia. The TKS score was positively
correlated with the HADS depression score (r=0.530; p=0.001) and
the FSS score (r=0.340; p=0.035) but was not significantly
associated with age (r=0.102; p=0.543), disease duration
(r=–0.110; p=0.511), body mass index (r=0.283;
p=0.085), the HADS anxiety score (r=0.306; p=0.061), or
the IPAQ score (r=–0.097; p=0.563).
Conclusions Our sample of adult FMF patients showed high levels of
kinesiophobia associated with fatigue and depression. Treatments focusing on
kinesiophobia in FMF patients could help to increase the effectiveness of
rehabilitation.

Abstract
Although neck pain is known to be a complex and multifactorial condition characterised by the interplay between physical and psychological domains, a comprehensive investigation examining the interactions across multiple features is still lacking. In this study, we aimed to unravel the structure of associations between physical measures of neuromuscular function and fear of movement in people with a history of neck pain. One hundred participants (mean age 33.3 ± 9.4) were assessed for this cross-sectional study, and the neuromuscular and kinematic features investigated were the range of motion, velocity of neck movement, smoothness of neck movement, neck proprioception (measured as the joint reposition error), and neck flexion and extension strength. The Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia was used to assess fear of movement. A network analysis was conducted to estimate the associations across features, as well as the role of each feature in the network. The estimated network revealed that fear of movement and neuromuscular/kinematic features were conditionally dependent. Higher fear of movement was associated with a lower range of motion, velocity, smoothness of neck movement, neck muscle strength, and proprioception (partial correlations between − 0.05 and − 0.12). Strong interactions were also found between kinematics features, with partial correlations of 0.39 and 0.58 between the range of motion and velocity, and between velocity and smoothness, respectively. The velocity of neck movement was the most important feature in the network since it showed the highest strength value. Using a novel approach to analysis, this study revealed that fear of movement can be associated with a spectrum of neuromuscular/kinematic adaptations in people with a history of neck pain.

Abstract
Advanced aging is associated with a general decline in physical function and physical activity. The current evidence suggests that pain-related fear of movement (i.e., kinesiophobia) is increased in the general older adult population and impacts physical activity levels in patients with chronic pain. However, whether kinesiophobia could impact physical activity and function in relatively healthy, chronic pain-free older adults remain unclear. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine whether fear of movement due to pain predicted self-reported and objective levels of physical function and physical activity in healthy older adults without chronic pain. Fifty-two older adults were enrolled in this study. The participants completed the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and wore an accelerometer on the hip for 7 days to measure physical activity. Measures of sedentary time, light physical activity, and moderate to vigorous physical activity were obtained from the accelerometer. Measures of physical function included the Physical Functioning subscale of the Short Form-36, Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), the 30-s Chair Stand test, and a maximal isometric hand-grip. The Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) was used to measure fear of movement or re-injury associated with pain. Potential covariates included self-reported activity-related pain and demographics. Hierarchical linear regressions were conducted to determine the relationship of kinesiophobia with levels of physical activity and physical function while controlling for activity-related pain and demographics. TSK scores did not predict self-reported physical activity on the IPAQ. However, TSK scores predicted self-reported physical function (Beta = -0.291, p = 0.015), 30-s Chair Stand test scores (Beta = -0.447, p = 0.001), measures from the SPPB (Gait speed time: Beta = 0.486, p < 0.001; Chair stand time: Beta = 0.423, p = 0.003), percentage of time spent in sedentary time (Beta = 0.420, p = 0.002) and light physical activity (Beta = -0.350, p = 0.008), and moderate to vigorous physical activity (Beta = -0.271, p = 0.044), even after controlling for significant covariates. These results suggest that greater pain-related fear of movement/re-injury is associated with lower levels of light and moderate to vigorous physical activity, greater sedentary behavior, and worse physical function in healthy, chronic pain-free older adults. These findings elucidate the potential negative impact of kinesiophobia in older adults who don't report chronic pain.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine for the presence of differences in neuromuscular and psychological function in individuals with recurrent neck pain (RNP) or chronic neck pain (CNP) following a whiplash trauma compared to healthy controls. A secondary aim was to examine whether neuromuscular characteristics together with psychological features in people with RNP were predictive of future painful episodes. Multiple features were assessed including neck disability, kinesiophobia, quality of life, cervical kinematics, proprioception, activity of superficial neck flexor muscles, maximum neck flexion and extension strength, and perceived exertion during submaximal contractions. Overall, those with RNP (n = 22) and CNP (n = 8) presented with higher neck disability, greater kinesiophobia, lower quality of life, slower and irregular neck movements, and less neck strength compared to controls (n = 15). Prediction analysis in the RNP group revealed that a higher number of previous pain episodes within the last 12 months along with lower neck flexion strength were predictors of higher neck disability at a 6-month follow-up. This preliminary study shows that participants with RNP presented with some degree of altered neuromuscular features and poorer psychological function with respect to healthy controls and these features were similar to those with CNP. Neck flexor weakness was predictive of future neck disability.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a prominent medical condition that can affect an individual at some point in their life time which could lead to poor quality of life (QOL). Low back pain has affected approximately 577 million individuals globally by 2017. The aim of the current systematic review is to synthesise the existing evidence on the factors influencing the QOL in individuals with CLBP and to identify strategies to improve their QOL. METHOD PubMed, ScienceDirect, PsychNet and Google Scholar were used to extract studies reporting quantitative relationships between QOL and its possible determinants in individuals having CLBP and the intervention strategies to improve QOL. RESULTS 10,851 studies were initially identified and twenty-six studies which met the inclusion criteria were selected for the review. 21 studies reported relationship between QOL and potential determinants and five studies assessed the influence of interventions on QOL. Determinants were classified as kinesiophobia, fear avoidance belief, or pain belief; occupation-related factors; pain and disability; activity; personal factors including age, gender, employment status; and other psychological factors including anxiety, quality of sleep, and health locus of control. Intervention strategies including MBSR, Pilates method and Back School Programme improved QOL in individuals with CLBP. CONCLUSION Psychosocial factors as well as the physical status of the individual contributed to the QOL in individuals having CLBP.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The effect of interventions to the Sternocleidomastoid (SCM)-muscle, as an important element of neck movement which is overactive in individuals with chronic neck pain (CNP), are unknown. OBJECTIVE The aim of the current study is to investigate the effects of SCM stretching and massage on pain, range of motion (ROM), endurance, disability, and kinesiophobia in individuals with CNP. METHODS In this study, individuals with CNP were randomized 1:1 to parallel SCM-Group (n = 30) or control group (CG) (n = 30). Conventional physiotherapy was applied to CG. In addition to the same interventions applied to the CG, classical massage and stretching exercises were applied to the SCM-muscle in the SCM-Group. Treatment sessions were administered three times each week for a total of 5 weeks. Pain, endurance, ROM, disability, and kinesiophobia were evaluated. Both prior to and immediately following the treatments. Mixed-model repeated measured ANOVAs were then employed to determine if a group*time interaction existed on the effects of the treatment on each outcome variable for each group as the between-subjects variable and time as the within-subjects variables. RESULTS Improvements in pain, disability, ROM(extension, left-lateral flexion, and right/left-rotation), and endurance were found to be greater in the SCM-Group compared to the CG (p < 0.05). Changes in flexion and right-lateral flexion ROM and kinesiophobia did not significantly differ between the groups (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION Stretching exercises and massage applied to the SCM-muscle, together with conventional physiotherapy, can reduce pain and disability, and increase ROM and endurance in individuals with CNP. This treatment may therefore be considered for use as an alternative method in treating CNP. The study was registered in ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04345042).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Several studies have investigated cervical kinematic performance in patients with chronic neck pain, especially with fast movements. A recent systematic review recommended further study of cervical spine kinematics cervical motions in individuals with neck pain. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to examine cervical spine kinematics of naturally paced cervical motions in patients with chronic neck pain compared with a group of asymptomatic participants. Also, the relationships between cervical kinematic measures with neck pain intensity and disability were determined. METHOD Kinematic performance was measured in 20 individuals with chronic nonspecific neck pain and 20 healthy controls. Data were captured using a 7-camera motion analysis system. Parameters were range of cervical motion, peak velocity, duration of movement, and jerk index (smoothness of movement). Pain intensity and Neck Disability Index were also measured. RESULTS Duration of movements, peak velocities, and jerk indexes were significantly different between the two groups (p < 0.05). Pain intensity was significantly associated with duration of movement, range of motion, peak velocity, and smoothness predominantly in extension (r range = 0.4 to 0.6, p < 0.05). CONCLUSION This study's findings indicated altered cervical kinematic performance during naturally paced motions (particularly reduced smoothness of movement)in patients with chronic nonspecific neck pain compared to asymptomatic participants. Also, pain intensity was moderately associated with most kinematic measures, especially in extension. This study's results can help to understand better the impairments associated with chronic nonspecific neck pain.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Low back pain (LBP) is one of the leading forms of chronic pain and is among the leading causes of pain and disability. In this study, we investigated the associations between the severity of disability and fear of movement and pain beliefs as well as the impact of the fear of movement and pain beliefs on the quality of life in patients with chronic LBP. METHODS A total of 89 patients (42.29 ± 16.05 years) with chronic low back pain were included in the study. The instruments used in the assessments include the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), the Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale (TKS), the Pain Belief Questionnaire (PBQ), and the SF 36-Short Form. Patients were assigned into three groups by disability severity based on ODI scores. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 15. RESULTS No statistically significant intergroup differences were found in TKS and PBQ scores (p> 0.05). A positive correlation was found between TKS scores, age (r: 0.227/p< 0.05), PBQ organic (r: -0.250/p< 0.05) scores. CONCLUSIONS Our study revealed high levels of kinesiophobia and similar pain beliefs, independent of the severity level of disability. We believe that cognitive-behavioral therapy that may reduce fear-avoidance behaviors and convert negative pain beliefs into positive ones should be added to rehabilitation procedures for LBP.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Kinesiophobia (i.e., fear of movement caused by pain) is increasingly acknowledged as a determinant of disuse among patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain. Kinesiophobia may affect life space-a crucial indicator of an active lifestyle among older people. This study aimed to investigate the previously unexamined association between kinesiophobia and life space among community-dwelling older people with chronic musculoskeletal pain. DESIGN Cross-sectional study. SETTING Community. SUBJECTS We analyzed data from 194 community-dwelling older people (age ≥65 years, mean age = 75.7 years, 71.6% women) with chronic musculoskeletal pain. METHODS Kinesiophobia, life space, and pain severity were assessed using the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia, Life Space Assessment, and Brief Pain Inventory. Linear regression models were applied to analyze the associations between kinesiophobia and life space, and pain severity and life space. RESULTS In our sample, the prevalence rates for chronic musculoskeletal pain were 10.82% (N = 21) for neck, 55.15% (N = 107) for lower back, 25.26% (N = 49) for shoulder, and 50.00% (N = 97) for knee. The results suggest that higher kinesiophobia is associated with smaller life space (adjusted beta = -0.91, 95% CI = -1.43 to -0.45, P < 0.001), even after adjustment for age, gender, years of education, pain severity, and presence of comorbidity. On the contrary, no significant association between pain severity and life space was observed (adjusted beta = -0.61, 95% CI = -2.92 to 1.72, P = 0.624). CONCLUSIONS Our findings suggest that kinesiophobia plays an important role in the determination of life space among older people with chronic musculoskeletal pain.

Abstract
Procedures such as dry needling (DN) or percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (PENS) are commonly proposed for the treatment of myofascial trigger points (MTrP). The aim of the present study is to investigate if PENS is more effective than DN in the short term in subjects with mechanical neck pain. This was an evaluator-blinded randomized controlled trial. Subjects were recruited through announcements and randomly allocated into DN or PENS groups. Pain intensity, disability, pressure pain threshold (PPT), range of motion (ROM), and side-bending strength were measured. The analyses included mixed-model analyses of variance and pairwise comparisons with Bonferroni correction. The final sample was composed of 44 subjects (22 per group). Both groups showed improvements in pain intensity (ηp2 = 0.62; p < 0.01), disability (ηp2 = 0.74; p < 0.01), PPT (ηp2 = 0.79; p < 0.01), and strength (ηp2 = 0.37; p < 0.01). The PENS group showed greater improvements in disability (mean difference, 3.27; 95% CI, 0.27-6.27) and PPT (mean difference, 0.88-1.35; p < 0.01). Mixed results were obtained for ROM. PENS seems to produce greater improvements in PPT and disability in the short term.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Kinesiophobia is an important problem that increases neck pain and causes it to become chronic. OBJECTIVE This study aims to compare the relationship between pain, quality of life, and kinesophobia in non-specific chronic neck pain. METHODS In total 87 patients were included in the study. Pain was assessed with Visual Analog Scale (VAS), kinesiophobia with Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale (TKS), and quality of life with Health Status Questionnaire Short Form-36 (SF-36). RESULTS The median age was 50 (40-59) years and the median complaint duration was 12 (8-48) months. The median value of VAS at rest was 4 (2-6) and the median value of VAS during the activity was 7 (5-8). The median TKS scores were 41 (39-45), the median SF-36 general health scores were 61 (45-75), and the median SF-36 mental health scores were 72 (52-80). There was a weak correlation between the TSK scores and gender, education level, and SF-36 general health scores (r= 0.206, p= 0.023; r=-0.235, p= 0.004; r= 0.236/p= 0.027 respectively). There was no relationship between kinesiophobia and the other variables. CONCLUSION TSK scores showed a correlation with gender, education level, and SF-36 general health scores. We conclude that as the education level decreases, kinesophobia scores increase, and as kinesophobia scores increase, the quality of life decreases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neck pain is one of the largest health problems in the military sector. OBJECTIVE To assess differences in the strength and endurance of the cervical muscles between military personnel with chronic nonspecific neck pain (CNSNP) with higher level of kinesiophobia (CNSNP-K) and individuals with lower levels of kinesiophobia (CNSNP-NK). METHODS We used kinesiophobia as a classification method: (1) CNSNP-K and (2) CNSNP-NK. The variables measured were endurance and strength of cervical muscles; range of motion (ROM), disability, pain intensity and psychological factors. RESULTS Eighty-three military personnel (26 CNSNP-K; 20 CNSNP-NK and 37 asymptomatic). Statistically significant differences in endurance and ROM were only found between the CNSNP-K group and the control group. In strength and disability differences were revealed between both symptomatic groups and the control group [CNSNP-K vs. control (flex-ext p < 0.001); CNSNP-NK vs. control (flex p = 0.003) and (ext p < 0.001)]. For psychological variables, the CNSNP-K group showed differences compared with the CNSNP-NK (pain catastrophizing, p = 0.007; anxiety and depression, p < 0.001) and with the asymptomatic group (pain catastrophizing, p = 0.008; anxiety and depression, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Military personnel with CNSNP-K have functional limitations and associated psychosocial factors compared with asymptomatic subjects, and showed greater associated psychological factors than CNSNP-NK group. Military personnel with CNSNP-NK only showed decreased strength with respect to those who were asymptomatic.

Abstract
Objective(1) To explore the level of association between kinesiophobia and pain, disability and quality of life in people with chronic musculoskeletal pain (CMP) detected via cross-sectional analysis and (2) to analyse the prognostic value of kinesiophobia on pain, disability and quality of life in this population detected via longitudinal analyses.DesignA systematic review of the literature including an appraisal of the risk of bias using the adapted Newcastle Ottawa Scale. A synthesis of the evidence was carried out.Data sourcesAn electronic search of PubMed, AMED, CINAHL, PsycINFO, PubPsych and grey literature was undertaken from inception to July 2017.Eligibility criteria for selecting studiesObservational studies exploring the role of kinesiophobia (measured with the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia) on pain, disability and quality of life in people with CMP.ResultsSixty-three articles (mostly cross-sectional) (total sample=10 726) were included. We found strong evidence for an association between a greater degree of kinesiophobia and greater levels of pain intensity and disability and moderate evidence between a greater degree of kinesiophobia and higher levels of pain severity and low quality of life. A greater degree of kinesiophobia predicts the progression of disability overtime, with moderate evidence. A greater degree of kinesiophobia also predicts greater levels of pain severity and low levels of quality of life at 6 months, but with limited evidence. Kinesiophobia does not predict changes in pain intensity.Summary/conclusionsThe results of this review encourage clinicians to consider kinesiophobia in their preliminary assessment. More longitudinal studies are needed, as most of the included studies were cross-sectional in nature.Trial registration numberCRD42016042641.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease that causes weakening of the bones which increases the risk of fractures. Especially hip fractures lead to substantial physical, psychological, social and economic burden both for the patients and the governments. Exercises and physically active life style are essential preventive and therapeutic approaches for osteoporosis. Kinesiophobia is an irrational fear of movement due to the belief of susceptibility to injury. It is associated with lower levels of physical activity. Having a diagnosis of osteoporosis without an adequate education about the disease may lead to kinesiophobia in patients due to an illogical belief about increasing possibility of falls and related fractures during physical activity. AIM To evaluate relationship between the diagnosis of osteoporosis and kinesiophobia. DESIGN Case-control study. SETTING Division of Rheumatology, Department of Rehabilitation, University Hospital. POPULATION Fifty-four subjects with osteoporosis and fifty-four healthy subjects who were age- and gender-matched. METHODS Demographic data of subjects (age, gender, weight, height, body mass index, disease duration) were recorded. The Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale (TKS) was applied to determine the level of fear of movement. Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) was used to evaluate mood status. The Quality of Life Questionnaire of the European Foundation for Osteoporosis (QUALEFFO-41) was performed to assess health related quality of life. Scores were compared between groups by Mann Whitney U test. Correlation between kinesiophobia and QUALEFFO-41 scores was performed by Spearman rank correlation. RESULTS Subjects with osteoporosis had higher level of kinesiophobia than healthy control subjects. There was no significant difference in HADS scores between the groups. QUALEFFO-41 total score was worse in subjects with osteoporosis than those in healthy subjects. There was a significant correlation between QUALEFFO-41 total score and kinesiophobia score in subjects with osteoporosis. CONCLUSIONS Subjects with osteoporosis have higher levels of kinesiophobia compared to age and gender-matched healthy subjects. Kinesiophobia may affect the quality of life in subjects with osteoporosis. CLINICAL REHABILITATION IMPACT As physical activity is essential for bone and general health, individuals should be educated and counseled about osteoporosis and the importance of physical activity to overcome kinesiophobia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the factors associated with physical activity participation in adults with chronic cervical spine pain. METHODS A systematic review was conducted including searches of PubMed (MEDLINE), EMBASE and CINAHL from inception to June 12th, 2016. Grey literature and reference checking was also undertaken. Quantitative studies including factors related to physical activity participation in adults with chronic cervical spine pain were included. Two independent authors conducted the searches, extracted data and completed methodological quality assessment. RESULTS A total of seven studies met the selection criteria, however, four papers were finally included in the final review. A modified Downs and Black criteria was used to assess methodological quality, each study included was classed as moderate quality. A total of six factors were assessed against physical activity participation for people with chronic neck pain. These included: pain, fear of movement, smoking habits, socioeconomic status, gender, leisure and work time habits. A significant relationship was demonstrated between pain, leisure and work time habits and physical activity. Subjects were less likely to participate in physical activity if they were in pain. Subjects with neck pain were less likely to participate in physical activity in their leisure and work time. CONCLUSION This review, based on a small number of heterogeneous studies demonstrated key factors that are likely to affect physical activity in people with chronic neck pain, most notably, pain levels, leisure and work habits. This review suggests that more in-depth, high quality studies are required to fully understand the impact of chronic pain on physical activity.
