Abstract
Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the added value of color parameter imaging (CPI) in the differential diagnosis of focal liver lesions (FLLs) with "homogeneous hyperenhancement but not wash out" on contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS). Methods A total of 101 patients with 108 FLLs were enrolled in this study. All the FLLs received US and CEUS examinations. The stored CEUS clips of target lesions were postprocessed with CPI analysis by radiologists. The receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate the added value of CPI. The McNamara test was used to compare the diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy between CEUS and CPI patterns. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to develop a CPI nomogram. The C index and calibration curve were used to evaluate the predictive ability of the nomogram. The intraclass correlation coefficient was used to test the reproducibility and reliability of CPI. Decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to evaluate the added value of applying CPI. Results The following CPI features were more frequently observed in malignant FLLs: eccentric perfusion (malignant: 70.0% vs. benign: 29.2%, p < 0.001), feeding artery (51.7% vs. 4.2%, p < 0.001), mosaic (63.3% vs. 6.3%, p < 0.001), red ingredients >1/3 (90.0% vs. 14.6%, p < 0.001). In addition, centripetal (43.8% vs. 18.3%, p = 0.004), peripheral nodular (54.2% vs. 1.7%, p < 0.001), subcapsular vessel (12.5% vs. 0.0%, p = 0.004), spoke-wheel vessels (25.0% vs. 5.0%, p = 0.003), branched vessels (22.9% vs. 5.0%, p = 0.006), blue and pink ingredients >2/3 (85.4% vs. 10.0%, p < 0.001) were more observed in benign FLLs. A nomogram incorporating peripheral nodular, spoke-wheel vessels, and red ingredients >1/3 was constructed. The model had satisfactory discrimination (AUC = 0.937), and the optimal diagnostic threshold value was 0.740 (0.983, 0.850). By the DCA, the model offered a net benefit over the treat-all-patients scheme or the treat-none scheme at a threshold probability 5%-93%. Conclusion Using CPI can detect and render subtle information of the main features of FLLs on CEUS; it is conducive to the radiologist for imaging interpretation, and a combining read of the CEUS and CPI of the FLLs with features of "homogenous hyperenhancement and no washout" can improve significantly the diagnostic performance of CEUS for FLLs.

Abstract
Current ultrasound multifrequency probes allow both improved detail resolution and depth of penetration when examining the liver. Also, new developments in vascular diagnostics, elastography with fibrosis assessment, evaluation of possible steatosis, and parametric and time intensity curve (TIC) analysis of dynamic microvascularization of the liver with contrast-enhanced ultrasound sonography (CEUS) complement ultrasound-guided diagnostics. State-of-the-art high-resolution technology includes a high frame rate (HiFR) mode for CEUS, fast shear wave measurements with the sound touch quantify (STQ) mode, artifact-free flow detection using HR flow and glazing flow in combination with a special flow-adapted imaging (Ultra Micro Angiography, UMA) and additionally different assessments of possible fatty liver (UltraSound ATtenuation Imaging Technology, USAT). In 50 cases with focal liver lesions, a multimodal liver diagnosis was performed with a still new high-performance ultrasound system as part of the clarification of questions from the university liver consultation and tumor outpatient clinic.

Abstract
Computer-aided color parameter imaging (CPI) is a novel technique for contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) that can highlight hemodynamic features of focal lesions. The purpose of the study was to investigate the role of CPI in evaluation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) hemodynamic features and prognosis after radiofrequency ablation (RFA). One hundred twenty-one patients with HCC underwent CEUS with CPI analysis before RFA. Eighty-nine patients had pathologically proven well- to moderately differentiated HCC (WM-HCC), and 32 patients had poorly differentiated or undifferentiated HCC (PU-HCC). Perfusion features of CEUS and contrast-enhanced computed tomography/magnetic resonance imaging were compared with CPI parameters for WM-HCC and PU-HCC. The results indicated that 67.4% of WM-HCC had a centrifugal perfusion CPI pattern, whereas 84.4% of PU-HCC tumors had a centripetal pattern (p < 0.001, odds ratio = 11.2). The specificity, sensitivity and accuracy of the CPI perfusion pattern regarding HCC pathological grade were higher than those with routine CEUS (84.4% vs. 9.4%, p < 0.001; 67.4% vs. 3.4%, p < 0.001; 71.9% vs. 5.0%, p < 0.001). Moreover, multivariable analysis revealed that the CPI perfusion pattern was an independent risk factor for progression-free survival post-RFA (centripetal group: 28.3 ± 4.1 mo vs. centrifugal group: 45.8 ± 4.4 mo, p = 0.002). A novel CPI technique for CEUS could non-invasively provide valuable hemodynamic information and predict prognosis for HCC patients treated by RFA.

2450-MHz microwave ablation of liver metastases under 3.0 T wide-bore magnetic resonance guidance: a pilot study. Sci Rep 2022; 12:12640. Abstract
To investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of 3.0 T wide-bore magnetic resonance (MR)-guided microwave ablation (MA) of liver metastases (LM). From October 2018 to May 2020, 39 patients with 63 LM were treated with 3.0 T wide-bore MR-guided 2450-MHz MA therapy. The procedure parameters, technical success, complications, biochemical index changes, local tumor response, local tumor progression (LTP), 12-month disease-free survival (DFS) and 12-month overall survival (OS) were recorded and analyzed. The mean tumor maximum diameter and total procedure time were 3.0 cm and 55.2 min, respectively. Technical success was 100%, but 5 cases (12.8%) had grade-1 complications. Alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase and total bilirubin showed a slight transient increase on day 3 (P < 0.05) and returned to normal by day 30 (P > 0.05). The complete ablation rates for ≤ 2.5 and > 2.5 cm lesions were 100% and 92.5%, respectively. During the median follow-up of 12.0 months, the LTP rate was 4.8% (3/63), and the 12-month DFS and OS rates were 61.3% and 92.2%, respectively. 3.0 T wide-bore MR-guided MA for LM is a safe and effective approach, especially for small LM.

Abstract
Biliary cystadenocarcinoma (BCAC) is an extremely rare intrahepatic cystic tumor. Patients usually present with nonspecific symptoms such as abdominal pain, abdominal distention, and abdominal mass. This tumor occurs most commonly in the left hemiliver and is thought to mainly develop from a benign biliary cystadenoma (BCA). At present, the disease is mainly diagnosed by ultrasound, CT, MR, and other imaging methods, and the main treatment is radical surgical resection. We reported a 75-year-old female with an unresectable huge BCAC (i.e., 161×145×122 mm in three orthogonal directions) and poor general condition (40 in Karnofsky Performance Status, KPS) who received sequential thermal ablation (i.e., cryoablation and microwave ablation) in combination with sclerotherapy using lauromacrogol. The diagnosis of intrahepatic BCAC was confirmed pathologically. Preablation grayscale US showed the BCAC with a clear boundary, regular shape, and cystic-solid mixed echogenicity, which appeared as a huge multilocular cystic lesions with thick internal sepatations. Preablation contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) showed honeycomb-like hyper-enhancement of the thick internal sepatations and cystic wall in the arterial and portal phase, and sustained enhancement of the thick internal sepatations and cystic wall in the late phase. 6-month postablation CEUS showed non-enhancement in most parts of the lesion in the arterial phase and 6-month postablation MRI showed the volume reduction ratio (VRR) was about 70% . The abdominal pain and abdominal distension were relieved remarkably, and her quality of life was greatly improved (70 in KPS). In conclusion, sequential thermal ablation in combination with sclerotherapy provides a successful translative therapy for this unresectable huge BCAC with a poor general condition, which makes subsequent curative surgery or ablation possible.

Abstract
The liver is one of the most frequent metastatic sites of breast cancer with a relatively poor prognosis. Systemic chemotherapy is an effective treatment but the efficacy is different between the subtypes of breast cancer. Percutaneous thermal ablation is considered to be a minimally invasive and effective local treatment for breast cancer liver metastases (BCLM). This case report described a patient with BCLM who adopted a strategy of systemic chemotherapy and repeated ultrasound (US) -guided percutaneous thermal ablation procedures. The survival time already reached 8 years till now with the metastases well-controlled and acceptable life quality was achieved.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the effect of Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) on the extent of ablation zone in ultrasound (US)-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for early stages of papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC). METHOD We selected 772 patients with 797 PTMCs who underwent with RFA from August 2017 to August 2020. They were subdivided into two groups as follows: (i) 216 patients (224 PTMCs) with HT in the 'HT + PTMC' group and (ii) 556 patients (573 PTMCs) with healthy thyroid in the 'PTMC' group. We assessed the extent (maximum diameter and volume) of the ablation zone by contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) immediately, one day, and 1 week following RFA. RESULTS The ablation zone of the 'HT + PTMC' group was smaller than that of the 'PTMC' group at 1 week of RFA (maximum diameter: 14.6 ± 3.1 mm vs. 15.2 ± 3.2 mm and volume: 0.932 ± 0.498 mL vs. 1.028 ± 0.540 mL, respectively, p < .05). However, there were no differences before, immediately, and one day post-RFA (p > .05). Life-threatening complications did not develop in any of the patients. CONCLUSION RFA-treated PTMCs were smaller in size in patients with HT than in those with a healthy thyroid at 1 week of RFA. However, the exact mechanism underlying this phenomenon and its clinical significance warrant further investigation.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the differential diagnostic value of computer-aided color parametric imaging (CPI) and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in hepatocellular adenoma (HCA) and well-differentiated hepatocellular carcinoma (wHCC). METHOD A total of 38 patients who underwent CEUS and were pathologically diagnosed with HCA (10 cases) and wHCC (28 cases) were reviewed retrospectively. The differences between the radiological features of HCA and wHCC were compared by two readers, blinded to the final diagnosis. RESULTS (a) Sonographic features: on gray-scale ultrasound, halo sign was more common in wHCC than in HCA (60.7% vs. 10.0%, p = 0.009). On CEUS, hyper- or isoenhancement was more common in HCA in the portal phase (90.0% vs. 50.0%; p = 0.022). On CPI mode, HCA was inclined toward centripetal enhancement (60.0% vs. 14.3% p = 0.010). HCA was characterized by the presence of pseudocapsule enhancement (50.0% vs. 14.3%; p = 0.036). Quantitative analysis showed that the arrival time of HCA was earlier than that of wHCC (12.4 ± 3.7 s vs. 15.9 ± 3.2 s; p = 0.006). (b) Interobserver agreement was improved by using CPI compared with CEUS. The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of the combination were 80.0%, 85.7%, and 84.2%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS CEUS combined with CPI can provide effective information for the differential diagnosis of HCA and wHCC, especially for the non-experienced radiologists.

Abstract
Dynamic contrast-enhanced ultrasound (DCE-US) enables quantification of tumor perfusion. VueBox is a platform independent external software using DICOM cine loops which objectively provides various DCE-US parameters of tumor vascularity. This review summaries its use for diagnosis and treatment monitoring of liver tumors. The existing literature provides evidence on the successful application of Vuebox based DCE-US for characterization and differential diagnosis of focal liver lesions, as well as on its use for monitoring of local ablative therapies and of modern systemic treatment in oncology.

Abstract
Schwannoma is a benign tumor that originates from Schwann cells in the nerve sheathing of cranial, other peripheral, or autonomic nerves. Patients often present with painless mass as the chief complaint. The main symptoms of this tumor are related to its size and specific nerve origin. At present, the pretreatment diagnosis is mainly made by ultrasound, CT, MR, or biopsy, and the main treatment is surgical resection. We reported a new treatment method for cervical schwannoma in a 65-year-old woman with a history of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). When the patient's neck mass was initially found with hoarseness and severe cough, it was considered as cervical lymph node metastasis of lung cancer due to her medical history. And she was diagnosed with schwannoma by core-needle biopsy after chemotherapy failed and the tumor shrank after the radiotherapy with no improvement of the clinical symptoms. After considering the physical condition, the patients were treated in our department for minimal invasiveness treatment. The patient was definitively diagnosed with cervical vagus schwannoma and was treated with ultrasound-guided microwave ablation of schwannoma under general anesthesia with systematic evaluation and improved preoperative examination. Her condition was stable, and the symptoms of severe cough disappeared after anesthesia resuscitation and the ablation. The tumor continued to shrink after the operation with no recurrence of cough symptoms. Ultrasound-guided percutaneous microwave ablation (MWA) for cervical vagus schwannomas might be a minimally invasive, effective, and relatively safe alternative to conventional treatment for those patients with severe symptoms.

Abstract
A 33 years' old male complained of excessive salivation with frequent swallowing and spitting, which resulted in communication disturbance, reduced quality of life, and social embarrassment for 19 years. He had been diagnosed as sialorrhea and submandibular gland hyperfunction by stomatologist, then had unilateral submandibular gland resection 13 years ago, but the symptom relief was not satisfactory. After that, he had been treated with glycopyrrolate for less than a year, which was withdrawn because of the short duration of symptomatic control after each tablet take-in and intolerable side effects. With the wish to receive a new treatment with long term effectiveness, low re-operation risk and normal preserved saliva secretion function, the patient was subject to MWA for the right submandibular gland. After systematic clinical evaluation, US-guided percutaneous MWA was successfully performed with an uneventful post-operative course. The volume of the right submandibular gland and ablated area were measured precisely by an ablation planning software system with automatic volume measurement function based on three-dimensional reconstruction of the pre-operative and post-operative enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) raw data. Finally, the ablated volume was calculated as 62.2% of the whole right submandibular gland. The patient was discharged 1 day after the operation, with symptoms relieved significantly, the mean value of whole saliva flow rate (SFR) decreased from 11 ml to 7.5 ml per 15 minutes. During the follow up by phone three months after operation, the patient reported that the treatment effect was satisfactory, whereas the SFR value became stable as 7 ml per 15 minutes, drooling frequency and drooling severity (DFDS) score decreased from 6 to 5, drooling impact scale (DIS) score decreased from 43 to 26. US-guided percutaneous MWA of submandibular gland seems to be an alternative, minimal invasive, and effective treatment for refractory sialorrhea.We described a patient with refractory sialorrhea treated successfully with ultrasound (US) guided percutaneous microwave ablation (MWA).

Abstract
The external perfusion software (VueBox™) for contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), enables the quantitative analysis of micro-vascularization within non-cystic lesions in terms of characterization and detection. This review summarizes our work about parathyroid gland, thyroid gland, liver, prostate and other tissues as well as original studies in the use of parametric perfusion imaging. Useful perfusion parameters are introduced.

Abstract
Hyperthyroidism is a common disease mainly manifested by hyperexcitability of multiple systems and hypermetabolism. Currently, antithyroid drugs (ATDs), radioiodine therapy (RIT), and surgery are mainly used in the clinical treatment for primary hyperthyroidism. We reported a case of a 28-year-old female who received a novel treatment for primary hyperthyroidism. This patient had poor control of thyroid function while taking ATD, and her oral Methimazole (MMI) dose varied repeatedly between 20 mg qd and 15 mg qd, failing to maintain a stable status. To minimize the possible complication and to achieve drug reduction or withdrawal, she refused RIT and surgery and showed up in our department. The patient, diagnosed with Graves' disease (GD) and met the surgical indication after systematic clinical evaluation, was subject to ultrasound-guided percutaneous microwave ablation (MWA) of the partial thyroid gland with continuous oral administration of 20 mg qd MMI. The post-ablation condition was stable and the patient was discharged 2 days after the operation. Thyroid ultrasound and serum thyroid function test were examined regularly after ablation and the MMI dosage was gradually reduced according to the results of the biochemical examination. Five weeks after the operation, the patient completely discontinued the medication. Ultrasound-guided percutaneous microwave ablation is minimally invasive, safe, and effective, and has potential to be an alternative treatment besides the 3 classical treatments of hyperthyroidism.

Abstract
Tumor vasculature proliferates rapidly, generally lacks pericyte coverage, and is uniquely fragile making it an attractive therapeutic target. A subset of small-molecule tubulin binding agents cause disaggregation of the endothelial cytoskeleton leading to enhanced vascular permeability generating increased interstitial pressure. The resulting vascular collapse and ischemia cause downstream hypoxia, ultimately leading to cell death and necrosis. Thus, local damage generates massive amplification and tumor destruction. The tumor vasculature is readily accessed and potentially a common target irrespective of disease site in the body. Development of a therapeutic approach and particularly next generation agents benefits from effective non-invasive assays. Imaging technologies offer varying degrees of sophistication and ease of implementation. This review considers technological strengths and weaknesses with examples from our own laboratory. Methods reveal vascular extent and patency, as well as insights into tissue viability, proliferation and necrosis. Spatiotemporal resolution ranges from cellular microscopy to single slice tomography and full three-dimensional views of whole tumors and measurements can be sufficiently rapid to reveal acute changes or long-term outcomes. Since imaging is non-invasive, each tumor may serve as its own control making investigations particularly efficient and rigorous. The concept of tumor vascular disruption was proposed over 30 years ago and it remains an active area of research.

Abstract
Endometriosis is one of the most common diseases that happen in reproductive women. The main symptoms include ovarian endometrial cyst, pelvic pain, and so on. We report a case of a 23-year-old woman with a refractory long-course ovarian endometrial cyst (OEC). The patient was previously identified to have a hypoechoic mass sized 9.7 cm in diameter on ultrasound (US) in the right ovary and was tentatively diagnosed as OEC in another tertiary hospital, who was then subjected to US-guided cyst sclerotherapy while the procedure was failed since only a very small amount of viscous and sticky fluid can be aspirated. The patient was then referred to our hospital for further treatment. Pretreat contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) showed non-enhancement of the mass with a thin cyst wall and a cyst-in-cyst pattern was observed. The possibility of ovarian malignancy was ruled out and the initial diagnosis of OEC was confirmed. The patient was then subjected to US-guided cyst sclerotherapy with lauromacrogol. The interventional procedure was eventful that no fluid was aspirated as what happened in the previous hospital. Thus urokinase was used to dissolve the old, viscious and sticky blood and finally, all the fluid was aspirated. The total consumption of urokinase was 60,000 U. Then lauromacrogol as a sclerosant was injected into the cyst cavity and the cyst wall was flushed repeatedly with lauromacrogol until the aspirated fluid became light red. Finally, 20 mL lauromacrogol was reserved in the cyst and the interventional procedure cost 2 hours The post-procedure course was uneventful without any discomfort, and the volume reduction rate of the cyst was 54%at 3-month follow-up. The visual analogue scale for the pain decreased from 4 before treatment to 1 after treatment, indicating a successful and effective outcome for the refractory long-course OEC.

Abstract
Tumor-induced osteomalacia (TIO) is a vanishingly rare paraneoplastic syndrome which is usually caused by phosphaturic mesenchymal tumors (PMTs). The conventional treatment for PMTs is total resection, and ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) can also be used for the treatment of PMTs patients, especially for patients in whom complete resection may lead to serious complications. We report two cases with PMT who presented syndrome with progressive musculoskeletal complaints and performed ultrasound-guided biopsy and RFA. Ultrasound-guided RFA, which is a safe and effective minimally invasive treatment option, appears to be a valuable alternative to surgery for patients presenting with PMT. We are the first reported case of RFA guided by ultrasonography in the treatment of PMT.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The ability to evaluate tumor development within experimental oncology is of upmost importance. However, determining tumor volumes in 3D in vivo tumor models is challenging. The chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model represents an optimized xenograft model that surpasses many disadvantages that are inherent to rodent models and provides the opportunity of real-time monitoring of tumor growth. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to introduce a new method that enables monitoring of tumor growth within the CAM model throughout the course of the experiment. METHODS Sarcoma cell lines and sarcoma primary tumors were grafted onto the CAM of fertilized chicken eggs. A digital microscope (Keyence VHX-6000) was used for 3D volume monitoring before and after tumor excision and compared it to tumor weight. RESULTS Accuracy of tumor volumes was validated through correlation with tumor weight. In and ex ovo tumor volumes correlated significantly with tumor weight values. CONCLUSIONS The described method can be used to assess the effects of chemotherapeutic agents on the growth of tumors that have been grafted onto the CAM and further advance personalized cancer therapy. In summary, we established a promising protocol that enables in vivo real-time tracking of tumor growth in the CAM model using a digital microscope.

Abstract
Purpose Treatment of patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma with radiotherapy or chemoradiation is an established alternative to laryngeal surgery in many cases, but particularly for advanced tumors without cartilage invasion. Imaging modalities face the challenge of distinguishing between posttherapeutic changes and residual disease in the complex anatomic subsite of the larynx. Guidelines concerning restaging of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) are presented by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) and other national guidelines, but clearly defined recommendations for routine restaging particularly for laryngeal cancer are lacking. Methods A systematic search was carried out in PubMed to identify studies evaluating routine restaging methods after primary non-surgical treatment of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma from 2009 to 2020. Results Only three studies were deemed eligible, as they included at least ≥50% patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma and evaluated imaging modalities to detect residual cancer. The small number of studies in our review suggest restaging with fluoro-deoxy-glucose positron-emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT) 3 months after initial treatment, followed by direct laryngoscopy with biopsy of the lesions identified by FDG PET/CT. Conclusion Studies evaluating restaging methods after organ-preserving non-surgical treatment of laryngeal carcinoma are limited. As radiotherapy (RT), chemoradiotherapy (CRT), systemic therapy followed by RT and radioimmunotherapy are established alternatives to surgical treatment, particularly in advanced laryngeal cancers, further studies are needed to assess and compare different imaging modalities (e.g. PET/CT, MRI, CT, ultrasound) and clinical diagnostic tools (e.g., video laryngoscopy, direct laryngoscopy) to offer patients safe and efficient restaging strategies. PET or PET/CT 3 months after initial treatment followed by direct laryngoscopy with biopsy of the identified lesions has the potential to reduce the number of unnecessary laryngoscopies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Popliteal artery aneurysms (PAA) are the most common peripheral artery aneurysms. Most common cause is arteriosclerosis. Acute thromboembolic limb ischemia and rupture of the PAA depict severe complications. Diagnostic tools for identifying PAAs are (Doppler) ultrasound, CT/MR angiography and DSA. PURPOSE The aim of the present retrospective single-center study is to assess the application and safety of CEUS for assessing untreated and treated PAAs. MATERIALS AND METHODS 13 patients were included in this study on whom CEUS was performed between 2007-2016. CEUS examinations were performed and interpreted by an experienced single radiologist (EFSUMB Level 3). RESULTS CEUS allowed for the detection of PAAs in all cases. CEUS allowed for detection of partial thrombosis of PAA in 7/8 of untreated patients, proper exclusion of PAA upon femoro-popliteal bypass in 3 patients, incomplete exclusion of PAA upon femoro-popliteal bypass in 1 patient and ruling out of in-stent stenosis in 1 patient. CONCLUSION CEUS is a useful and safe tool for in real-time evaluation of PAAs in the pre-/post-treatment status. In addition to conventional (Doppler) ultrasound and as an alternative tool to more elaborate imaging modalities, CEUS might be integrated in the future diagnostic work-up and follow-up of PAA patients.

Abstract
Pseudoaneurysm (PSA) formation is the most common arterial complication of endovascular procedures requiring arterial puncture. The present study reported a case of a 72-year-old male patient with iatrogenic femoral artery PSA treated with contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS)-guided thrombin injection. Conventional ultrasound (US) and CEUS were used to diagnose, guide treatment, and evaluate the treatment efficacy. In the case, the PSA was successfully occluded with 1000 IU of thrombin. During the follow-up after 48 hours of thrombin injection, US found that the PSA had complete thrombosis without arterial supply. No complications occurrence in the course of the treatment. CEUS-guided thrombin injection for the treatment of PSA was effective and safety and the associated literatures were also reviewed.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the perfusion features of local recurrence in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after radiofrequency ablation (RFA) with contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and pathological correlation, as well as to compare with those of initial HCC. Methods: From 2010 to 2018, 42 patients with recurrent HCC after RFA were enrolled in this study. The initial HCC patients included 32 males and 10 females with an average age of 58.2 ± 8.1 years. The CEUS images for initial HCC lesions and local recurrence after RFA were compared. The perfusion features were analyzed, including enhancement time, process, boundary, morphology, washout time, washout degree, feeding vessels, and internal necrosis. H&E staining and CD133/EpCAM staining were performed with biopsy samples for the stemness study. Results: According to CEUS, 59.5% of initial HCC lesions had centripetal enhancement, and 61.9% of recurrent HCC lesions had homogeneous enhancement in the arterial phase (p < 0.001). A total of 73.8% of initial HCC lesions had well-defined margins at the peak, and 81.0% of recurrent HCC lesions had poorly defined margins (p < 0.001). A total of 78.6% of initial HCC lesions had regular morphology at the peak, and 83.3% of recurrent HCC lesions were irregular (p < 0.001). Feeding vessels were more frequently found in initial HCC lesion (71.4%) than in recurrent HCCs (38.1%, p = 0.002). In the late phase, 60% of initial HCCs had marked washout while 83.3% of recurrent HCC lesion had marked washout (p = 0.019). A total of 31.3% of the initial HCC lesions had internal necrosis areas while only 7.1% of recurrent HCC lesions had internal necrosis areas (p = 0.035). In tumors 3-5 cm in size, the washout time of recurrent HCCs was shorter than that of initial HCCs (50.3 ± 13.5 s vs. 75.6 ± 45.8 s, p = 0.013). Pathological staining showed that the tumor stem cell markers (CD133 and EpCAM) were both highly expressed in recurrent samples compared with initial tumor samples (CD133+: 19 vs. 5%, p = 0.002; EpCAM+:15 vs. 6%, p = 0.005). Conclusions: Recurrent HCC after RFA had more homogeneous enhancement with a poorly defined border, marked washout, and fewer less feeding vessels and inner necrosis areas compared to initial HCC. The stemness study also found upregulated stemness in recurrent HCC. These specific features might be related to the aggressive biological behavior of recurrent HCC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Early identification of vulnerable plaques at risk of rupture could help prevent cerebral ischemic stroke in patients with carotid artery disease. OBJECTIVE To investigate the correlation between contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) perfusion patterns and serum lipid signatures of carotid artery plaques with the degree of carotid stenosis. METHODS A total of 80 patients with carotid artery plaques who underwent CEUS were included. All patients underwent CEUS, computed tomography angiography or digital subtraction angiography, and serum lipid testing. RESULTS The contrast agent enhancement levels and the CEUS perfusion patterns in the plaques were associated with the degree of carotid stenosis (P < 0.05). Serum free fatty acid (FFA) was associated with the contrast agent enhancement levels (P < 0.05), but did not correlate with the degree of stenosis (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and triglycerides with respect to contrast agent enhancement levels (P > 0.05) or the degree of stenosis (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION A high level of CEUS perfusion and increased serum FFA levels are indicative of vulnerable carotid plaques, which may be useful for the prediction of stroke in patients with carotid artery disease.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the value of dynamic contrast enhanced ultrasound (D-CEUS) in monitoring the chemoradiotherapy (CRT) therapeutic response of local advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (LAPC). PATIENTS AND METHODS From October 2017 to December 2018, 11 patients diagnosed as LAPC were included (7 men, 4 women; mean age: 61.1±8.6 years). The algorithm of CRT was as following: the radiotherapy dose was 50.4 Gy/28Fx with S-1 40 mg bid orally taken in radiotherapy day. Conventional ultrasound scan and CEUS were performed before and 4 weeks after CRT. All ultrasound examinations were performed by an ACUSON Oxana 2 ultrasound equipment (Siemens Medical Solutions, Germany) with a C 6-1 convex array transducer (1-6 MHz). Time intensity curves (TICs) were generated in the region of interests (ROIs) both in LAPC lesions and in its surrounding pancreas parenchyma by SonoLiver software (TOMTEC Imaging Systems). Quantitative perfusion parameters including maximum intensity (MI), rise time (RT), mean transit time (mTT) and time to peak (TTP) were analyzed and compared before and after CRT. RESULTS No significant difference could be found by conventional B mode ultrasound scan after CRT. TICs of CEUS showed lower ascending and descending slopes rate after CRT. Among all perfusion quantitative parameters, MI decreased significantly after CRT (42.1±18.8% vs 27.8±17.2%, P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Depending on its unique advantages as non-radiation, effective and convenient, D-CEUS analysis and quantitative parameters, particularly MI, has potential application value in following up of the CRT treatment response in LAPC patients.
