Diagnosis value of multi-slice spiral CT in renal trauma

[Magnetic resonance imaging in diagnosis of complications of kidney and ureteral injury in different periods of traumatic disease]

OBJECTIVE

To assess the possibility of magnetic resonance imaging in diagnosis of complications of kidney and ureteral injury in different periods of traumatic disease.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

There were 139 patients with kidney and ureteral injuries between 2015 and 2019. We clarified the MR-signs of renal complications in different periods of traumatic disease.

RESULTS

We analyzed the effectiveness of MRI in identification of renal complications compared to ultrasound, excretory urography, computed tomography, intraoperative and follow-up data. High diagnostic accuracy of MRI for early and late manifestations of traumatic disease was demonstrated.

The Application Value of Spiral CT Lung Densitometry Software in the Diagnosis of Radiation-Induced Lung Injury

In order to study the application value of spiral CT lung density measurement software in the diagnosis of radioactive lung injury, the average CT values of lung apex, hilum, and diaphragm were measured by Pulmo automatic evaluation software of 16-slice spiral CT in 96 patients with different types of radiation lung injury diagnosed by conventional CT and 80 healthy subjects. The radiation lung injury on CT slices was classified, and the lung density was measured. In 96 patients with different types of radiation lung injury, 56 patients had different degrees of increase in average lung density, which was most obvious in the type of air insufficiency and chronic fibrosis. CT values of lung density in the ground glass stage and patch stage of acute radiation pneumonia had little influence due to the range and time of exposure. The lung density of 35 patients with radiation injury was measured in the normal range. There was a significant difference between normal lung density and abnormal lung density in different types of radiation lung injury (X ² = 56.718, P < 0.001). The mean lung density of 68 cases was normal and that of 12 cases was abnormal. There was a significant difference in lung density between the lung injury group and the normal group (X ² = 18.027, P < 0.001). Spiral CT lung density measurement can accurately evaluate the lung density values of different types of radiation lung injury and judge the correlation between lung density and different types of radiation lung injury. It is of great value to diagnose, locate, and master the radiation dose of different types of radiation lung injury.

Comparison of clinical diagnostic value of spiral CT with different dose in patients with early-stage peripheral lung cancer

PURPOSE

To compare the clinical diagnostic value of spiral CT scan with different dose in patients with early-stage peripheral lung cancer.

METHODS

A total of 163 cases of patients with early-stage peripheral lung cancer who came to People's Hospital of Rizhao for treatment from June 2014 to January 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. A total of 78 cases of patients who received low-dose CT scanning were the low-dose group, another 84 cases of patients who received routine dose CT scanning were the routine dose group. Multislice helical CT (MSCT) scanning was performed in both groups, with tube voltage of 120 kV. Tube current was 25 m A in the low-dose group and 250 m A in the routine dose group. In addition, a total of 80 patients with lobar pneumonia were added as the control group of diagnostic sensitivity, specificity and accuracy. Pathological diagnosis was taken as the gold standard to compare the diagnostic sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the two groups.

RESULTS

The image quality, nodules and signs of the two groups were compared, and the results of radiation dose of the two groups were compared. The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the low-dose group were 82.05%, 87.50% and 84.81%, respectively. The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the routine dose group were 85.71%, 86.25% and 85.97%, respectively. The diagnostic value of the two groups was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). However, the radiation dose in the low-dose group was significantly lower than that in the routine group.

CONCLUSION

Low-dose MSCT scanning can meet the clinical requirements for imaging diagnosis of peripheral lung cancer, and can reduce the radiation dose of patients.

Kidney and uro-trauma: WSES-AAST guidelines

Renal and urogenital injuries occur in approximately 10-20% of abdominal trauma in adults and children. Optimal management should take into consideration the anatomic injury, the hemodynamic status, and the associated injuries. The management of urogenital trauma aims to restore homeostasis and normal physiology especially in pediatric patients where non-operative management is considered the gold standard. As with all traumatic conditions, the management of urogenital trauma should be multidisciplinary including urologists, interventional radiologists, and trauma surgeons, as well as emergency and ICU physicians. The aim of this paper is to present the World Society of Emergency Surgery (WSES) and the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) kidney and urogenital trauma management guidelines.

3D reconstruction of CT scans aid in preoperative planning for sarcomatoid renal cancer: A case report and mini-review

Contrast-enhanced multi-slice computed tomography (MSCT) is commonly used in the diagnosis of complex malignant tumours. This technology provides comprehensive and accurate information about tumour size and shape in relation to solid tumours and the affected adjacent organs and tissues. This case report demonstrates the benefit of using MSCT 3D imaging for preoperative planning in a patient with late-stage (T4) sarcomatoid renal cell carcinoma, a rare renal malignant tumour. The surgical margin on the liver was negative, and no metastases to veins, lungs or other organs were detected by abdominal and chest contrast-enhanced CT. Although sarcomatoid histology is considered to be a poor prognostic factor, the patient is alive and well 17 months after surgery. The MSCT imaging modality enables 3D rendering of an area of interest, which assists surgical decision-making in cases of advanced renal tumours. In this case, as a result of MSCT 3D reconstruction, the patient received justified surgical treatment without compromising oncological principles.

Diagnostic Value of Multi-Slice Spiral Computed Tomography for Bronchial Dysplasia in Premature Infants

Background

The aim of this study was to investigate the diagnostic value of multi-slice spiral computed tomography (MSCT) for bronchial dysplasia in premature infants.

Material/Methods

A retrospective analysis of 248 premature infants who were highly suspected to have bronchial dysplasia and were admitted to our hospital from 2015 onwards was conducted. We observed bronchus morphologies, sizes, and tissue characteristics using fiberoptic bronchoscopy (FB) as the criterion standard for diagnosis. We calculated the sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic compliance of MSCT in the diagnosis of bronchial dysplasia.

Results

Thoracic computed tomography mainly revealed capsular bubbles. The translucency of the 2 lungs was reduced, and extensive and local ground-glass changes were observed. Imaging findings mostly included strip or honeycomb-like shadows. Pleural thickening and pleural effusion were rare. MSCT was able to establish a diagnosis in 92 cases (37.10%) of bronchopulmonary cysts, 69 cases (27.82%) of congenital pulmonary emphysema, 31 cases (12.50%) of bronchial atresia, 1 case (0.40%) of congenital cystadenoma malformation, and 3 cases (1.21%) of giant tracheal bronchitis. Another 52 children (20.97%) were found to have conventional pulmonary inflammation. The sensitivity of MSCT in the diagnosis of bronchial dysplasia was 88.21%, the specificity was 75.00%, and the diagnostic compliance was 86.29%. There was a significant difference between the MSCT and FB findings in the diagnosis of bronchial hypoplasia (P<0.001).

Conclusions

MSCT has great utility in the diagnosis of bronchial dysplasia in premature infants and may become an excellent method for diagnosing bronchial dysplasia in the future.

3D reconstruction images of cone beam computed tomography applied to maxillofacial fractures: A case study and mini review

Maxillofacial injuries can be complex and are clinically important due to their functional and cosmetic significance. Maltreated and missed fractures might cause deformity of the face; thus, accurate evaluation of the fracture provided by X-ray images is critical. In this study, we explore the application of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) for diagnosis of severe maxillofacial traumas. A patient with a complex fracture that affects the maxilla, mandible, wall of the maxillary sinus, zygoma, zygomatic arch and nasal bone was diagnosed using 3D reconstruction of CBCT images. This diagnostic approach provides detailed information obtained by static images and a systematic model with unique advantages for the following pre-surgical evaluation, surgical treatment and prognostic assessment of complex maxillofacial fractures.

3D printing in urology: Is it really promising?

Three-dimensional (3D) printings are gaining a place in a variety of the medical sectors. With applications in urogenital diseases, 3D printing is a new tool that present difficulties at stages of imaging, planning, and carry out therapeutic interventions. In this review we tried to find answers to the questions that come to mind on this new topic by empasizing the suitable 3D printing models in urology, their clinical usage, and the limitations.
