Abstract
Sudden cessation of the drug can cause withdrawal syndrome, discontinuation syndrome, or rebound effect. The common feature of these phenomena is a quick onset, usually limited duration depending on the drug's half-life and remission after restarting the therapy. They are characterized by varying clusters of somatic, autonomic, and psychiatric symptoms. Originally withdrawal syndrome was described for drugs with addictive properties such as barbiturates or benzodiazepines. On the other hand sudden abrupt of antidepressants or antipsychotics may cause discontinuation symptoms including movement or sensory disturbances, sleep disturbances, and hyperarousal but generally of less severity comparing to withdrawal syndrome. The aforementioned syndromes are physiologically based on the predominance of cellular counter-regulations as an effect of the sudden abrupt of a regularly taken medication. Classically the pathogenesis of withdrawal syndrome, based on physical dependence, results in life-threatening, long-lasting manifestations such as, seizures and delirium, different from the treated disease. In turn, these symptoms are not typical for discontinuation syndrome which is not considered as serious and usually spontaneously resolving. In turn, the rebound effect is clinically characterized by the relapse of the disease symptoms that are controlled by medication, but of greater severity than those before treatment.In the current review, we describe withdrawal and discontinuation syndromes associated with selected drugs used in psychiatry and neurology, risk factors, and recommendations for diminishing syndrome occurrence. Knowledge of their pathogenesis and symptoms resulting from drug discontinuation may be helpful in syndrome management and expectantly reduces the risk of diagnostic and therapeutic errors.

Abstract
Anthropogenic climate change will have a negative impact on worldwide well-being over and above the direct consequences of rising average temperatures. But anthropogenic heat (AH) relationship with childhood attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is unknown. To assess the relationship with AH exposure and childhood ADHD symptoms in the context of global climate change, this study was conducted in a cross-sectional survey from April 2012 to May 2018 in the northeastern, northwestern, and southern regions of China, with a total enrollment of 179,846 children aged 6-18 years. Exposure to AH was evaluated by gathering socioeconomic and energy usage data along with nighttime light data from satellites and data on the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index. This encompassed four types of AH exposure: industrial processes, transportation, buildings, and human metabolism. The statistical analysis used generalized linear mixed-effects modeling to determine the association between the types of AH exposure and childhood ADHD symptoms. The mean (SD) age of the 179,846 study participants was 11.7 (2.9) years, and 7343 participants (4.1%) had ADHD symptoms. In adjusted models, increased levels of AH exposure per IQR from total AH, industry, transportation, buildings, and human metabolism all increased the odds of ADHD (odds ratios, 3.60 [95% CI, 3.42, 3.80]; 5.71 [95% CI, 5.32, 6.14]; 1.79 [95% CI, 1.75, 1.84]; 2.10 [95% CI, 2.03, 2.17]; 1.95 [95% CI, 1.89, 2.02]). The association remained robust after various sensitivity analyses. Prolonged exposure to AH is associated with the development of ADHD symptoms in children.

Abstract
Binge eating disorder (BED) is the most common specific eating disorder (ED). It is frequently associated with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), depression, bipolar disorder (BD), anxiety disorders, alcohol and nicotine use disorder, and obesity. The aim of this narrative review was to summarize the evidence for the pharmacological treatment of BED and its comorbid disorders. We recommend the ADHD medication lisdexamfetamine (LDX) and the antiepileptic and antimigraine drug topiramate for the pharmacological treatment of BED. However, only LDX is approved for the treatment of BED in some countries. Medications to treat diseases frequently comorbid with BED include atomoxetine and LDX for ADHD; citalopram, fluoxetine, sertraline, duloxetine, and venlafaxine for anxiety disorders and depression; aripiprazole for manic episodes of BD; lamotrigine, lirasidone and lumateperone for depressive episodes of BD; naltrexone for alcohol use disorder; bupropion for nicotine use disorder; and liraglutide, semaglutide, and the combination of bupropion and naltrexone for obesity. As obesity is a frequent health consequence of BED, weight gain-inducing medications, such as the atypical antipsychotics olanzapine or clozapine, the novel antidepressant mirtazapine and tricyclic antidepressants, and the mood stabilizer valproate should be avoided where possible. It is currently unclear whether the novel and promising glucagon, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), and glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists like tirzepatide and retatrutide help with BED and its comorbidities. However, these compounds have been reported to reduce binge eating in individuals with obesity or overweight.

Abstract
A substantial number of patients develop cognitive dysfunction after contracting severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), significantly contributing to long-coronavirus disease (COVID) morbidity. Despite the urgent and overwhelming clinical need, there are currently no proven interventions to treat post-COVID cognitive dysfunction (PCCD). Psychostimulants like methylphenidate may enhance both noradrenergic and dopaminergic pathways in mesolimbic and pre-frontal areas, thus improving memory and cognition. We present a case series of six patients who were treated at the Johns Hopkins Post-Acute COVID-19 Team (PACT) clinic for PCCD with methylphenidate 5 - 20 mg in the context of routine clinical care and followed for 4 to 8 weeks. Baseline and post-treatment outcomes included subjective cognitive dysfunction and objective performance on a battery devised to measure cognitive dysfunction in long-COVID patients. Three out of the six patients reported subjective improvement with methylphenidate, one patient described it as "notable" and another as "marked" improvement in memory and concentration. We also found significant pre-treatment subjective complaints of cognitive dysfunction; however, formal cognitive assessment scores were not severely impaired. A statistically significant difference in pre and post scores, favoring intervention, was found for the following cognitive assessments: Hopkins verbal learning test (HVLT) immediate recall, HVLT delayed recall and category-cued verbal fluency. The current series demonstrates promising neurocognitive effects of methylphenidate for long-COVID cognitive impairment, particularly in recall and verbal fluency domains.

Abstract
Atomoxetine is indicated for the management of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 years. Few studies have assessed the safety and tolerability of atomoxetine in younger patients. This retrospective cohort study included 133 children aged 3-6 years who were diagnosed with ADHD comorbid with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The primary endpoint was the evaluation of the safety profile of atomoxetine. In total, 50 patients (37.6%) experienced adverse events (AEs), which led to treatment discontinuation in 23 patients (17.3%). The most common AEs were gastrointestinal (24.1%), aggression or hostility (12.8%), and increased hyperactivity (9.0%). In the 23 patients who discontinued treatment, all the AEs resolved after treatment ceased. Among the 110 patients who completed at least 6 months' treatment, atomoxetine titrated to a dose of 1.2-1.8 mg/kg/day appeared to be well tolerated and effective. The Clinical Global Impression-Improvement score improved to 1 ("very much improved") and 2 ("much improved") in 62.4% and 20.3% of children, respectively, at their last visit. Overall, atomoxetine appeared to be well tolerated in younger children with comorbid ADHD and ASD. Nevertheless, close patient monitoring remains essential, and the study limitations necessitate caution in generalizing these findings to broader populations. Long-term prospective studies are required.
