Abstract
Nuck’s hydroceles, which develop in a protruding part of the parietal peritoneum into the female inguinal canal, are rare abnormalities and a cause of inguinal swelling, mostly resulting in pain. They appear when this evagination of the parietal peritoneum into the inguinal canal fails to obliterate. Our review of the literature on this topic included several case reports and two case series that presented cases of Nuck hydroceles which underwent surgical therapy. We present six consecutive cases of symptomatic hydroceles of Nuck’s canal from September 2016 to January 2020 at the Department of Surgery of Charité Berlin. Several of these patients had a long history of pain and consecutive consultations to outpatient clinics without diagnosis. These patients underwent laparoscopic or conventional excision and if needed simultaneous hernioplasty in our institution. Ultrasonography and/or Magnetic Resonance Imaging were used to display the cystic lesion in the inguinal area, providing the diagnosis of Nuck’s hydrocele. This finding was confirmed intraoperatively and by histopathological review. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) captures, intraoperative pictures and video of minimal invasive treatment are provided. Nuck’s hydroceles should be included in the differential diagnosis of an inguinal swelling. We recommend an open approach to external Type 1 Nuck´s hydroceles and a laparoscopic approach to intra-abdominal Type 2 Nuck hydroceles. Complex hydroceles like Type 3 have to be evaluated individually, as they are challenging and the surgical outcome is dependent on the surgeon’s skills. If inguinal channel has been widened by the presence of a Nuck’s hydrocele, a mesh plasty, as performed in hernia surgery, should be considered.

Abstract
Defects in the Canal of Nuck are rare abnormalities of the female genitalia, which are typically detected and repaired in young age. In the present report, a case of a Nuck cyst in a 40-year old female patient is described. Additionally, the current literature concerning cases of women with hydrocele of Nuck canal was systematically reviewed. A total of 16 case reports of 16 patients with Nuck hydrocele (mean age of 35.18 years), have been reported to date. A right inguinal mass was noted in 13 patients (81.3%) whereas in 3 patients a left-sided mass was noted. The surgical approach was open in 13 cases and laparoscopic in 3 cases. Two cases underwent hydrocelectomy and inguinal ring ligation, whereas in 7 cases a simple cystectomy was performed. In 2 cases the round ligament was excised along with the hydrocele. In one of these 2, ligamentum rotundum necrosis and presence of a haemorrhagic cyst of the canal of Nuck were identified. Hernia repair and hydrocelectomy was performed in 5 cases. A cyst of the Canal of Nuck is relatively rare, but should be considered during the diagnosis of inguinal masses in female patients.

Abstract
Canal of Nuck abnormalities are underrecognized causes of labial masses with potential adverse outcomes. The 2 main categories of canal of Nuck abnormalities are hernias and hydroceles. There are 3 types of canal of Nuck hydroceles: communicating, encysted, and bilocular. Canal of Nuck hernia contents vary, but those containing ovaries need urgent medical attention because of an increased risk of ischemia. Ultrasound can establish a definite diagnosis in all cases. This article reviews the embryologic characteristics, anatomy, pathologic characteristics, and imaging features of these abnormalities while providing a clear pictorial depiction of various unique hernias and hydroceles seen with this entity.

Abstract
Hydrocoele of the canal of Nuck is a rare condition in adult women caused by a failure of complete obliteration of the canal of Nuck. It may be likened to a patent processus vaginalis in men. In most cases, the diagnosis is made during surgery as it is often mistaken for an inguinal hernia. We report a case where the diagnosis of this condition was made preoperatively on imaging. The salient anatomy, clinical features, radiological images and surgical management are discussed and the medical literature reviewed.

Abstract
Canal of Nuck abnormalities are a rare but important cause of morbidity in girls, most often those younger than 5 years of age. The canal of Nuck, which is the female equivalent of the male processus vaginalis, is a protrusion of parietal peritoneum that extends through the inguinal canal and terminates in the labia majora. The canal typically obliterates early in life, but in some cases the canal can partially or completely fail to close, potentially resulting in a hydrocele or hernia of pelvic contents. Recognition of this entity is especially important in cases of ovarian hernia due to the risk of incarceration and torsion. We aim to increase awareness of this condition by reviewing the embryology, anatomy and diagnosis of canal of Nuck disorders with imaging findings on US, CT and MRI using several cases from a single institution.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hydroceles develop in females through the canal of Nuck. This canal is formed when the processes vaginalis fails to obliterate during development. The canal of Nuck can lead to the formation of not only hydroceles, but hernias as well. Although physicians typically think of hydroceles occurring in males, on rare occasions, they do occur in females because of this defect. They are often mistaken for incarcerated hernias, making ultrasound an excellent tool to distinguish between them and guide further treatment. CASE REPORT We report a rare case of a 46-year-old female with the chief complaint of a painful groin mass. A diagnosis of a hydrocele was made by point of care ultrasonography in the emergency department after being misdiagnosed by computed tomography scan on two previous occasions. WHY SHOULD AN EMERGENCY PHYSICIAN BE AWARE OF THIS?: Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) is a valuable tool for emergency physicians and can lead to quick diagnoses and appropriate management of the patient. Using ultrasound in conjunction with other imaging modalities can improve diagnostic accuracy. POCUS is portable and a powerful tool for immediate answers, and continues to prove its utility for clinical decision making.

Abstract
The canal of Nuck is a remnant of a peritoneal evagination associated with the round ligament in women. Rarely, the canal of Nuck can remain patent allowing for development of cysts. These cysts are difficult to diagnose due to their rare incidence and because they are often mistaken for other causes of inguinal pain in women. This case series of three women presenting with groin or labial masses highlights the role of sonography as the primary imaging modality in the diagnosis of canal of Nuck cysts. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract
Hydrocele in the Canal of Nuck is a condition of female fetal development. The Canal of Nuck is a patent tubular peritoneal fold that travels with the round ligament to its attachment on the labia major. Failure of complete obliteration of the Canal of Nuck during fetal development predisposes females to development of a hydrocele or an inguinal hernia during post-pubertal or adult stages. We present a case of a 21 year old female with a tender reducible labial mass diagnosed as a Hydrocele in the Canal of Nuck.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/AIM How testes descend through the inguinal canal is well described, but how the ovaries appear inside an inguinal hernia remains controversial. We reviewed the literature to determine whether ovarian 'descent' has been described. METHODS The English literature from 1950 to 2014 was reviewed via PubMed, Medline and Web of Science to identify papers describing an ovary in the hernia sac: reports were examined to find whether the ovary prolapsed or 'descended', and the anatomy of its supporting ligaments, cranial suspensory ligament (CSL) and round ligament (female gubernaculum, RL). RESULTS In forty reports of >7140 inguinal herniotomies and/or imaging studies in females the hernia contains an ovary in 15-20%, often with the ipsilateral fallopian tube. The RL and ovary were aligned along the same path as testicular descent only rarely in Müllerian anomalies with an isolated uterine horn preceding the ovary into the sac. The ligament usually found inside the hernia sac was the CSL, not the RL. DISCUSSION The high frequency of incarcerated ovary, along with the close proximity of the CSL to the internal ring in females is consistent with a sliding hernia pulling the CSL (and ovary) into the hernia sac, not ovarian 'descent' by traction on the RL.

Abstract
Hydrocoele of the canal of Nuck in an adult female is a rare entity and analogous to hydrocoele in males. Its usual presentation is in children, and its occurrence in adults is very uncommon, more so of the hour-glass variety. We report a case of a 38-year-old woman presenting with a right inguinal swelling of 3-month duration. On physical examination, the swelling was non-tender, cystic and irreducible. There was no cough impulse. Ultrasonography and contrast-enhanced CT revealed a cystic swelling with clear contents in the right inguinal region. Surgery was performed with excision of the cyst. The histopathology report suggested flat mesothelium cells, confirming the diagnosis.

Abstract
Congenital anomalies of the external genitalia occur in 2-3 per 100 infants. These anomalies might bring variable degrees of morbidity to the infant and often constitute diagnostic challenges for health professionals. We present a case report of a fetus with bilateral vulvar cysts diagnosed during the third trimester ultrasound. The cysts spontaneously regressed before birth and the newborn showed no genital anomalies at birth.

Abstract
Hydrocele of the canal of Nuck is a rare condition in females. It results from the failure of obliteration of the distal portion of evaginated parietal peritoneum within the inguinal canal which forms a sac containing fluid. Patients generally present with inguinal swelling. We present a case of left sided cyst of canal of Nuck with left inguinal hernia in a 28-year-old female, which was diagnosed on ultrasonography. Patient underwent laparoscopic excision of cyst of canal of nuck with hernioplasty. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of laparoscopic excision of a cyst (encysted hydrocele) of the canal of Nuck.

Abstract
Patent canal of Nuck is one of the rare developmental entities in females, presenting clinically as an inguino-labial swelling. The usual content of this sac is fluid being secreted by the peritoneal mesothelium. In rare cases, ovary alone or with fallopian tube may prolapsed out into the sac. We report the rationale use of diagnostic algorithm in a case of ovarian hernia into the patent canal of Nuck, to differentiate it from more common clinical mimics. Furthermore, in the present case, a knowledge of the entity and targeted scrutiny, led to a correct identification of the prolapsed ovary, preventing an unwarranted oophorectomy in the garb of neoplasia.

Mesothelial cyst of the round ligament misdiagnosed as irreducible inguinal hernia. Case Rep Surg 2013; 2013:408078. Abstract
We report the case of a 36-year-old woman who presented with signs and symptoms of an irreducible inguinal hernia. Surgical exploration revealed a mesothelial cyst of the round ligament of the uterus. Mesothelial cysts of the round ligament are rare lesions, frequently masquerading as inguinal hernias, and should be included in the differential diagnosis of any inguinal mass. Clinical findings are those of a groin mass, discomfort, and bulging. Ultrasound and CT scans often demonstrate an aperistaltic cystic mass. Definitive diagnosis is usually made intraoperatively and confirmed histopathologically.

Abstract
Background: Cyst of the canal of Nuck is a rare cause of inguinal swelling in female infants and children. Aim: The purpose of this study is to discuss the clinical, radiological, and histopathological findings, differential diagnosis, and surgical treatment of this disease in the light of our experience. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in six children who were operated on with cyst of the canal of Nuck at the pediatric surgery clinic in July 1998-March 2013. All information was collected from patient's files and computer records retrospectively. Results: Patients were between the ages of 1 and 12 years. Size of the cysts has varied between 23 mm and 55.2 mm. In all cases, cyst was on the right side. In physical examination while five cases had palpable, well-circumscribed, mobile and painless mass, in one case the mass was immobile. In one patient, the mass was reducible; in the other 5 patients the mass was non-reducible. First patient was operated immediately with the early diagnosis of incarcerated inguinal hernia, the second one was operated under elective conditions with early diagnosis of inguinal hernia and it was diagnosed during operation, and in the last 4 patients pre-operative true diagnosis was possible. Conclusions: As clinical findings of the cyst of the canal of Nuck are variable, pre-operative true diagnosis can only be related to increasing experience.
