Abstract
ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Tourette syndrome (TS) is a chronic neurodevelopmental disorder that begins in school-age children. Although TS is not life-threatening, the tics and comorbidities can impact a child's physical and mental health, as well as interpersonal interactions. Understanding the care needs of parents of children with TS is essential for providing healthcare services that effectively support these children. The aim of the study was to develop and evaluate the psychometric properties of the care needs scale for parents of children with TS (CNS-PCTS) in Taiwan. METHODS: This study used a methodological design. The scale was developed by preliminarily identifying relevant items and dimensions through a systematic review of the literature. A pilot test with 30 participants and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) confirmed the subscales and items pertaining to the care needs of the parents. Data analysis included content validity, item analysis, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and EFA. The Chinese version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index was adopted to assess the discriminant validity of the CNS-PCTS. RESULTS: Two hundred fifty-six parents of children with TS completed the scale. The scale-level content validity index was 0.92. The EFA revealed that the CNS-PCTS consisted of 13 items, with the factor loadings ranging from 0.656 to 0.83, and covered 3 factors: getting information about TS, assisting children in social engagement, and obtaining parenting support. The discriminant validity showed a positive correlation between the Chinese version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the CNS-PCTS. Cronbach's α coefficients of the subscales ranged from 0.89 to 0.94, and the intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.94. CONCLUSION: The CNS-PCTS demonstrated satisfactory psychometric properties. It helps health professionals understand parents' care needs and assess the effectiveness of interventions. Confirmatory factor analysis can be performed in future studies to provide more rigorous validity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Concept analysis studies play major role in clarifying and operationalizing concepts. This approach has been used to clarify and advance knowledge about the concept of Family Centred Care (FCC). The concept of FCC has been studied by many nursing scholars using different methods. AIM This review aimed to combine outcomes of concept analysis studies to assess the level of maturity of the concept of Family Centred Care. METHODS Formal electronic databases (MEDLINE and CINAHL) and informal (Google Scholar) were searched using the terms "Family Centred Care" and "concept analysis". The Morse concept maturity evaluation approach was used to appraise the retrieved studies. RESULTS 35studies were identified of which12 met the inclusion criteria and were included in the analysis. Three studies used Walker and Avant concept analysis methodology, three applied the Rodgers evolutionary model while six applied modified mixed/hybrid approaches. While a few provided a definition of FCC, none have been able to confirm the maturity of the concept. This review summarized the different trials to analyze the concept of FCC supporting the rethinking of the model and emergence of new models such as Child and Family Centred Care (CFCC). IMPLICATIONS Concept analyses should be done periodically to assess the maturity of emerging concepts. Previously published FCC concept analyses manuscripts show the concept has evolved and gained significant recognition and acceptance over time. A clearer definition of FCC supports its positive impact on patient outcomes. A comprehensive FCC tool that can evaluate the effective delivery of FCC is needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Burdening health and illness issues such as physical or mental illnesses, accidents, disabilities, and life events such as birth or death influence the health and functioning of families and contribute to the complexity of care and health care costs. Considerable research has confirmed the benefits of a family systems-centered care approach for patients, family caregivers, families, and health care professionals. However, health care professionals face barriers in working with families, such as feeling unprepared. Family systems-centered therapeutic conversations support families' day-to-day coping, resilience, and health. A family systems care unit (FSCU) was recently established as a real-life laboratory at one of the Swiss Universities of Applied Sciences. In this unit, health care professionals offer therapeutic conversations to families and individual family members to support daily symptom management and functioning, soften suffering, and increase health and well-being. These conversations are observed in real time through a 1-way window by other health care professionals, students, and trainees and are recorded with video for research and education. Little is known about how therapeutic conversations contribute to meaningful changes in burdened families and the benefits of vicarious learning in a real-life laboratory setting for family systems care. OBJECTIVE In this research program, we aim to deepen our understanding of how therapeutic conversations support families and individuals experiencing burdening health and illness issues and how the FSCU laboratory setting supports the learning of students, clinical trainees, and health care professionals. METHODS Here we apply a transformational action research design, including parallel and subsequent substudies, to advance knowledge and practice in family systems care. Qualitative multiple-case study designs will be used to explore the benefits of therapeutic conversations by analyzing recordings of the therapeutic conversations. The learning processes of students, trainees, and professionals will be investigated with descriptive qualitative study designs based on single and focus group interviews. The data will be analyzed with established coding methods. RESULTS Therapeutic conversations have been investigated in 3 single-case studies, each involving a sequence of 3 therapeutic conversation units. Data collection regarding the second research question is planned. CONCLUSIONS Preliminary results confirm the therapeutic conversations to support families' coping. This renders the FSCU a setting for ethically sensitive research. This program will not only support the health and well-being of families, but also contribute to relieving the financial and workforce burdens in the health and social care system. Abstract
BACKGROUND Patient-centered care aims to prevent disease and promote well-being by actively involving patients in treatment and decision-making that is based on respecting the patients and their families. However, no scales have been developed to assess patient-centered care from the nurse's perspective. This study aimed to develop a scale to measure nurses' level of patient-centered communication and confirm its validity and reliability. METHODS A methodological cross-sectional study was adopted to develop and validate the Patient-Centered Communication Scale (PCCS). The items were developed through a literature review and online interviews with nurses. Content validity was assessed by experts and the content validity index was calculated. A pretest of the questionnaire was conducted with 10 clinical nurses. To evaluate the factor structure and internal consistency reliability, the PCCS was administered online to 325 nurses in South Korea. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, explanatory factor analysis (EFA), and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). RESULTS The final instrument consisted of 12 items and three factors: (1) information sharing, (2) patient-as-person, and (3) therapeutic alliance. EFA revealed a distinct three-factor structure, explaining 59.0% of the total variance. CFA confirmed the adequacy of the model fit and validated the inclusion of the final items. The Cronbach's alpha values ranged from 0.60 to 0.77, indicating acceptable internal consistency. Convergent validity was evidenced by the correlation between the PCCS and a measure of interpersonal communication competence. CONCLUSIONS The 12-item PCCS showed good reliability, construct validity, and convergent validity. The scale has utility for measuring the level of patient-centered communication skills in nurses.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The prevalence of complex chronic conditions (CCC), which cause serious limitations and require specialized care, is increasing. The diagnosis of a CCC is a health-illness transition for children and their parents, representing a long-term change leading to greater vulnerability. Knowing the characteristics of these transitional processes is important for promoting safe transitions in this population. This scoping review aimed to map the available evidence on health-illness transition processes in children with complex chronic conditions and their parents in the context of healthcare. METHODS Six databases were searched for studies focusing on children aged 0-21 years with CCC and their parents experiencing health-illness transition processes, particularly concerning adaptation to illness and continuity of care, in the context of healthcare. Studies within this scope carried out between 2013 and 2023 and written in Portuguese or English were identified. The articles were selected using the PRISMA methodology. The data were extracted to an instrument and then presented with a synthesizing approach supporting the interpretation of the results. RESULTS Ninety-eight methodologically broad but predominantly qualitative articles were included in this review. Children with CCC have specific needs associated with complex and dynamic health-illness transitions with a multiple influence in their daily lives. Several facilitating factors (p.e. positive communication and a supportive therapeutic relationship with parents and professionals, as well as involvement in a collaborative approach to care), inhibiting factors (p.e. the complexity of the disease and therapeutic regime, as well as the inefficient organization and coordination of teams) and both positive (p.e. well-being and better quality of life) and negative response patterns (p.e. negative feelings about the chronic illness) were identified. Some interventions to support the transitional process also emerged from the literature. Pediatric palliative care is seen as a good practice and an integrative approach for these children and families. CONCLUSION Health professionals play a fundamental role in supporting the transitional process and promoting positive response patterns. More significant investment is needed at the clinical and academic levels regarding production and dissemination of knowledge in this area to ensure the awareness of children with CCC and that their needs are fully enhanced. Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study is conducted as a bibliometric analysis to determine the trends in studies related to family-centered care in children. MATERIALS AND METHODS The Web of Science database was used to collect study data. A search was conducted on Web of Science using the keywords "family-centered care", "family centered care", "family-centred care", "family centred care", "family-integrated care", "family integrated care", "patient and family centered care", "patient- and family-centered care" and "child" or "pediatric" or "pediatrics" or "child" or "newborn" or "neonatal" or "adolescent" together. The VOSviewer program was used for data analysis and visualization. The analysis included the number of publications by year, distribution by journals, most cited studies, countries with the highest publication output, most frequently used keywords, and co-authorship dimensions, presented with visual maps. RESULTS A total of 2525 studies conducted from 1980 onwards were analyzed. The analysis revealed that the initial publications related to the subject emerged in 1980, and the United States was identified as the country with the highest number of publications, based on the Web of Science database. The Journal of Pediatric Nursing: Nursing Care of Children and Families (JPN) was determined as the journal with the highest number of publications, while the journal receiving the most citations was PEDIATRICS. CONCLUSION The study found an increasing importance given to the Family-Centered Care Approach since the 1980s, with a majority of studies being descriptive in nature. It was determined that the studies were concentrated in the USA indicating a lack of global interest in the Family-Centered. PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS Nursing researchers can build upon this study in the field of family-centered care by conducting more specific and in-depth investigations. This contributes to adding new information to the nursing literature and filling gaps in this area.

Abstract
This research critically explores deficiencies in the palliative care system, focusing on evaluation and treatment aspects for both adult and paediatric patients. Using a qualitative methodology, the study engages healthcare professionals and family caregivers to uncover perspectives on the existing state of palliative care. Conducted through three focus groups and a semi-structured in-depth interview with participants recruited from Virgen de la Arrixaca University Clinical Hospital, this research illustrates critical issues, highlighting the insufficient healthcare workforce and resources to meet the comprehensive needs of patients and their families. Recommendations include holistic care addressing social, emotional, psychological, socio-familiar, and economic dimensions, supported by embedded support groups and the enforcement of relationships with palliative associations. This study also advocates for improved health institutional coordination, social worker support, and ongoing health professional satisfaction monitoring. In paediatric care, specific demands involve specialised units, medical team continuity, 24 h paediatrician care, and a more professional paediatric approach. Beyond problem identification, this study offers valuable insights for shaping health policies and tools, incorporating new indicators and introducing grief bereavement support in clinical reports, contributing to the advancement of patient evaluation in palliative care.

Abstract
Palliative care (PC) enhances the quality of life for patients and families facing life-threatening conditions. While PC is well-established for adults, not all practices apply to pediatrics. Consequently, specific quality indicators for Pediatric Palliative Care (PPC) must be identified. This scoping review aimed to identify the variables associated with the quality of care of PPC patients in Spain, focusing specifically on three areas: structure and process of care, psychological aspects of care, and care of patients approaching the end of life. The review was conducted following PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Searches were performed in the PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, ProQuest, and Dialnet databases covering the period extending from January 2000 to May 2023. Finally, 35 studies were identified for the complete review. A total of 30 studies include variables associated with the structure and process of care, 20 include variables associated with psychological aspects of care, and 23 studies integrate variables related to patient care at the end of life. Analysis suggests that enhancing professional training in aspects such as communication with patients and families, creating intimate spaces with flexible visiting hours, increasing emotional support, promoting frequent contact with healthcare teams, and transparently communicating about illness and imminent death to both families and minors could improve the quality of PPC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Family-centered care (FCC) is a crucial and dynamic philosophy within 21st-century pediatric nursing, offering numerous benefits for both children and their families. It is essential for pediatric nurses to be well-versed in the FCC approach and related practices. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of nurse training on nurses' attitudes towards FCC and on nurses' clinical practices related to FCC. METHODS This study utilized a pretest-posttest, single-blind (for nurses and parents), and prospective design. The sample consisted of nurses (n = 41) employed at a university hospital's pediatric clinics and parents (n = 256) with infants or children admitted to these clinics. Data collection involved the Nurse Information Form, Parent and Child Information Form, Family-Centered Care Scale (FCCS), and Family-Centered Care Attitude Scale (FCCAS). RESULTS A significant difference was observed between nurses' pre- and post-training FCCAS median scores (p < 0.05). However, no statistically significant difference was detected between the median FCCS scores of parents whose children were cared for by nurses before and after the training (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION Following the FCC training provided to pediatric nurses, their attitudes towards the necessity and importance of FCC significantly improved compared to the pre-training period. However, no significant difference was found in the perceived FCC practices of parents whose children received inpatient treatment during the pre-and post-training periods. IMPLICATIONS TO PRACTICE Training is important in improving pediatric nurses' attitudes towards FCC. Planned training on FCC should be provided for nurses. Difficulties in pediatric nurses' FCC practices should be identified. In addition, FCC practices should be implemented as a policy in hospitals and pediatric clinics and nurses should be supported to ensure the implementation of FCC practices.
