Abstract
Objective This study aims to review the blood routine and biochemical indicators of the plateau population for three consecutive years, and analyze the impact of the plateau on these blood indicators of the Tibetan population and the Han immigrant population. Method These parameters were extracted from the Laboratory Department of Ali District People's Hospital in Tibet from January 2019 to December 2021, including blood routine, liver and kidney function, blood lipids, myocardial enzyme spectrum, and rheumatic factor indicators. Changes in these parameters were analyzed over 3 consecutive years according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Result A total of 114 Tibetans and 93 Hans participated in the study. These parameters were significantly different between Tibetan and Han populations. Red blood cells (RBC), hemoglobin (HGB), hematocrit (HCT), mean hemoglobin content (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), white blood cells (WBC), lymphocytes (LYMPH) and monocytes (MONO) were significantly higher in Hans than Tibetans (p < 0.05). Biochemically, total bilirubin (TBIL), direct bilirubin (DBIL), albumin (ALB), urea nitrogen (Urea), creatinine (Cr), uric acid (UA), glucose (GLU), triglycerides (TG) and creatine kinase isoenzyme (CKMB) were significantly higher in Hans than Tibetans; aspartate aminotransferase (AST), glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), antistreptolysin (ASO), and C-reactive protein (CRP) were significantly higher in Tibetans than Hans (p < 0.05). There were no obvious continuous upward or downward trend of the parameters for 3 consecutive years. Conclusion In high-altitude areas, Han immigrants have long-term stress changes compared with Tibetans. The main differences are reflected in the blood system, liver and kidney functions, etc., which provide basic data for further research on the health status of plateau populations.

Abstract
Introduction microvascular and macrovascular complications of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide among patients with T2DM. This study aims to estimate the prevalence of these chronic complications and identify the associated risk factors among Moroccan patients with T2DM. Methods this cross-sectional study was conducted on 505 T2DM patients followed by the healthcare Centers of the Casablanca-Settat region from January 2017 to July 2018. The socio-demographic, anthropometric, biochemical, and clinical data were recorded using a structured survey. For statistical analysis, SPSS version 20 is used. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses are used to determine the risk factors associated with chronic complications of T2DM. Results among the 505 Moroccan patients with T2DM, 84.98% were women. The average age of the patients was 57.27±10.74 years. Diabetic eye disease was the most frequent complication (29.5%) followed by cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) (22.4%), kidney disease in diabetes (9.8%), diabetes foot (2.8%), and neuropathy (1.8%). Logistic regression analysis showed that the CVDs was associated with hypertension (OR: 2.41; 95% CI: 1.11-5.22; p=0.026), hypolipidemia treatment (OR: 2.20; 95% CI: 1.06-4.59; p=0.034), insulin use (OR= 0.39; 95%CI: 0.15-0.96, p=0.043) and LDL-C (OR: 1.01; 95% CI: 1-1.02; p=0.035) in T2DM patients. However, the major risk factors for the development of kidney disease in T2DM patients were a lack of regular physical activity (OR: 3.77; 95% CI: 1.22-11.67; p=0.021), hypolipidemia treatment (OR: 8.31; 95% CI: 1.86-36.97; p=0.005), and high serum creatinine (OR: 1.33; 95% CI: 1.16-1.53; p≤0.001). In addition, LDL-C levels were found to be a significant risk factor for diabetes eye disease (OR: 1.01; 95% CI: 1.00-1.03; p=0.008). Conclusion this study shows that the increased duration of diabetes, insulin use, lack of regular physical exercise, hypertension, hypolipidemia treatment, high serum creatinine, and LDL-C were significant risk factors for chronic complications of T2DM in Moroccan patients.

Affimer proteins as a tool to modulate fibrinolysis, stabilize the blood clot, and reduce bleeding complications. Blood 2018; 133:1233-1244. Abstract
Bleeding complications secondary to surgery, trauma, or coagulation disorders are important causes of morbidity and mortality. Although fibrin sealants are considered to minimize blood loss, this is not widely adopted because of its high cost and/or risk for infection. We present a novel methodology employing nonantibody fibrinogen-binding proteins, termed Affimers, to stabilize fibrin networks with the potential to control excessive bleeding. Two fibrinogen-specific Affimer proteins, F5 and G2, were identified and characterized for their effects on clot structure/fibrinolysis, using turbidimetric and permeation analyses and confocal and electron microscopy. Binding studies and molecular modeling identified interaction sites, whereas plasmin generation assays determined effects on plasminogen activation. In human plasma, F5 and G2 prolonged clot lysis time from 9.8 ± 1.1 minutes in the absence of Affimers to 172.6 ± 7.4 and more than 180 minutes (P < .0001), respectively, and from 7.6 ± 0.2 to 28.7 ± 5.8 (P < .05) and 149.3 ± 9.7 (P < .0001) minutes in clots made from purified fibrinogen. Prolongation in fibrinolysis was consistent across plasma samples from healthy control patients and individuals at high bleeding risk. F5 and G2 had a differential effect on clot structure and G2 profoundly altered fibrin fiber arrangement, whereas F5 maintained physiological clot structure. Affimer F5 reduced fibrin-dependent plasmin generation and was predicted to bind fibrinogen D fragment close to tissue plasminogen activator (tPA; residues γ312-324) and plasminogen (α148-160) binding sites, thus interfering with tPA-plasminogen interaction and representing 1 potential mechanism for modulation of fibrinolysis. Our Affimer proteins provide a novel methodology for stabilizing fibrin networks with potential future clinical implications to reduce bleeding risk.
