Abstract
Background and Aim Treatment of endometriosis involves pain relief which is achieved through the administration of analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, with or without the addition of hormone therapy. At present, studies investigating endometriosis pain management using experimental rat models and the use of medications are scarce. Therefore, this study aimed to systematically evaluate research trends and critical points in the field of endometriosis pain management using experimental models. Materials and Methods A total of 30 publications related to this topic that were published from 2012 to 2022 were retrieved from various databases, including Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, Embase, and CINAHL, using appropriate English keywords. The quality of the publications was evaluated using impact metrics, productivity, term density mapping, and author network. Results The average publication rate was three articles per year, reaching its peak in 2021 at five articles per year. The United States and China were found to be the most productive countries, with 12 and 10 publications per year, respectively. The field of medicine (37.0%) was the most abundant, although the H-index was relatively low (13:13). Term density mapping involved the search of 542 keywords, of which 35 were selected, with only 8 exhibiting significant density. Conclusion In the past decade, there has been a shortage of publications that have addressed pain in endometriosis in experimental models and, within this context the majority of the production and publication in this field has been performed by the United States and China. After performing this bibliometric review, it can be inferred that more research is required in this field, to develop new approaches and treatments for endometriotic pain.

Abstract
Endometriosis (EMs) is a common gynecological disorder characterized by abnormal growth of the endometrial stroma and glands outside the uterus. Tanshinone IIA, the active component of Chinese medicine Danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge.), has a number of pharmacological effects such as anti‑inflammation and anti‑oxidation and serves a significant role in the treatment of EMs. In the present study, network pharmacology and experimental validation were used to elucidate the potential mechanism of tanshinone IIA for treating EMs. Several databases were used to collect information on EMs and tanshinone IIA and cross‑targets for tanshinone IIA and EMs finally obtained. A total of 64 common targets were found between tanshinone IIA and EMs. Subsequently, a protein‑protein interaction network was constructed, a total of 14 core targets were screened for enrichment analysis. Furthermore, Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis were performed. The network pharmacology showed that intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM)‑1, MMP‑9 and VEGF are the core targets while PI3K/AKT pathway and mTOR pathway are the main signaling pathways through which tanshinone IIA regulates relevant biological processes to intervene in EMs. Finally, the therapeutic role and mechanism of tanshinone IIA on EMs was verified in vivo. Female Sprague‑Dawley rats were treated by autologous transplantation to establish EMs. Serum inflammatory factors were detected by enzyme‑linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The expression of ICAM‑1, MMP‑9 and VEGF in ectopic endometrial tissues of rats was determined by immunohistochemical. The expression of PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway‑related proteins and genes was detected by western blotting and quantitative PCR. It was found that tanshinone IIA treatment significantly decreased the formation of ectopic endometrium by reducing serum levels of TNF‑α and IL‑1β, and down regulating the levels of ICAM‑1, MMP‑9 and VEGF in ectopic uterine tissue. In addition, tanshinone IIA can also block the activation of PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway by reducing the expression of related proteins and genes. In conclusion, tanshinone IIA can regulate adhesion, invasion and angiogenesis, thereby improving the pathological morphology of ectopic endometrium and inhibiting the formation of ectopic lesions. The PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling pathway may play a key role in controlling this process.

Abstract
Background Leiomyomatosis peritonealis disseminata (LPD) is a non-metastatic, homologous, multicentric benign disorder characterized by small leiomyomas scattered over the peritoneum and omentum. It is a rare and benign disease with invasive potential. LPD mainly attacks women of childbearing age but has also been reported in post-menopausal women, men, and young children. Non-specific clinical and imaging findings of LPD lead to difficult diagnoses and treatment. Case presentation This study reports the case of a patient with recurrent LPD with endometriosis after multiple myomectomies and hysterectomy, who presented recurrent abdominal pain with progressive exacerbation. Imaging examinations showed irregular shadows in the pelvic cavity and multiple nodular changes in the peritoneum, which were considered malignant lesions. A solid mass sized 10 cm × 9 cm × 10 cm in the inferior pelvis and nodules scattered over the surface of pelvic and abdominal organs and the peritoneum were detected during the surgery. The patient was treated with cytoreductive surgery (CRS), peritonectomy, ovarian ablation, and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). The surgery was challenging, and the intraoperative bleeding reached 900 ml. However, the patient recovered well and achieved a tumor-free survival of 13 months. Conclusions It was concluded that a combination of CRS, ovarectomy, and HIPEC might be one of the therapeutic strategies for recurrent LPD.

Abstract
Endometriosis is a hormone-dependent inflammatory disease characterized by the existence of endometrial tissues outside the uterine cavity. Pharmacotherapy and surgery are the current dominant management options for endometriosis. The greater incidence of recurrence and reoperation after surgical treatment as well as the adverse effects of medical approaches predispose patients to potential limitations for their long-term usage. Consequently, it is essential to explore novel supplementary and alternative drugs to ameliorate the therapeutic outcomes of endometriotic patients. Resveratrol is a phenolic compound that has attracted increasing interest from many researchers due to its pleiotropic biological activities. Here, we review the possible therapeutic efficacies and molecular mechanisms of resveratrol against endometriosis based on in vitro, animal, and clinical studies. The potential mechanisms of resveratrol include anti-proliferative, pro-apoptotic, anti-angiogenic, anti-oxidative stress, anti-invasive and anti-adhesive effects, thereby suggesting that resveratrol is a promising candidate for endometriosis. Because most studies have investigated the effectiveness of resveratrol on endometriosis via in vitro trials and/or experimental animal models, further high-quality clinical trials should be undertaken to comprehensively estimate the clinical application feasibility of resveratrol on endometriosis.
