Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze the longitudinal relationship between overweight and hypertension in school children. METHODS This cohort study enrolled children 6-8 years of age who were then prospectively followed up over a 24 months period with repeat assessments performed at an interval of 11-13 months. Information on participation in physical education classes in school, sports practice outside of school, and economic status were obtained through questionnaires answered by parents/guardians. The measurement of blood pressure, weight, height, and waist circumference was performed during the serial follow-up visits in school. RESULTS The proportion of hypertension did not change significantly over the 24 months (7.1% to 8.2%; P = 0.690). However, children with overweight and obesity throughout the period, had a 198% [HR (95% CI) 2.98 (1.40, 6.35)] higher risk of having hypertension diagnosed during follow-up when compared to eutrophic children in the same period. CONCLUSION The development trajectory of overweight and obesity in children aged 6-8 years was associated with hypertension.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Diet is one of the main risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD), while the evidence about the relationship between dietary pattern (DP) and CVD in children is scarce. This study aims to explore the association between DP and CVD risk in children. STUDY DESIGN This was a cross-sectional and longitudinal study. METHODS This research was conducted among 4351 children aged 6-12 years old in 2014, then the subgroup children in 2014 were followed up in 2019. Dietary intakes were assessed using a food frequency questionnaire. DP was clustered based on 15 food items, and finally, four main DPs were obtained. RESULTS Four major DPs were identified: (1) low intake of nuts and algae pattern, (2) low-energy intake pattern, (3) high-energy intake pattern, and (4) regular DP. Compared with the regular diet pattern, the low intake of nuts and algae pattern was associated with the increased risk of higher systolic blood pressure (107.71 mm Hg vs 105.78 mm Hg, P < 0.001), diastolic blood pressure (64.98 mm Hg vs 63.91 mm Hg, P = 0.0056), hypertension (odds ratio [OR]:1.44, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.10, 1.88; P = 0.0036), dyslipidemia (OR: 2.41, 95% CI: 1.28, 4.52; P = 0.0194), and obesity (OR: 1.48, 95% CI: 1.16, 1.89; P = 0.0003) in children from a cross-sectional aspect in 2014 and it was also found associated with an increased risk of hypertension (OR: 2.67, 95% CI: 1.45, 4.92; P = 0.0017) in 2019. CONCLUSIONS Low nuts and algae intake combinations in children seemed associated with increased CVD risk. Such findings are imperative for national development of dietary recommendation for the prevention of CVDs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Children with obesity is associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease (CV) risk in adulthood. This study is to explore the obesity-related lipid metabolites and identify the associations of lipid metabolites with selected CV risk in children and adolescents. METHODS A case-control study was designed to include a total of 197 children (aged 9-13 years, male 56.34%, 99 children in the obesity group). The lipidomics profiling was measured by ultra-high-performance liquid tandem chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry. RESULTS Four FDR-significant abdominal obesity-related lipid metabolites were identified. Compared to the lean group, decreased phosphatidylcholine O-21:2 level (q = 0.010) and sphingomyelins d21:1 (q = 0.029) were found and two lipid metabolites levels were higher in the obese group, including phosphatidylglycerol 43:6 and one did not match with any candidate compounds in databases. After adjusting for covariates, PC3 (O-21:2) and SM (d21:1) were significantly associated with blood glucose. Mediation analysis showed that all three lipid metabolites may mediate the association between abdominal obesity and glucose regulation. CONCLUSIONS This study identified several novel central obesity-related lipid metabolites, and we found that PC3 (O-21:2) and SM (d21:1) were significantly associated with blood glucose, and all these lipid metabolites can mediate the association between abdominal obesity and glucose dysregulation. IMPACT Serum lipidomic profiles in children with abdominal obesity and their associations with selected CV risk factors were examined. Our study identified 4 lipid metabolites associated with abdominal obesity, including PC3 (O-21:2), SM (d21:1), PG (43:6), and one did not match with any candidate compounds in the databases. PC3 (O-21:2) and SM (d21:1) were significantly associated with blood glucose. Mediation analysis showed that all three lipid metabolites [PC3 (O-21:2), SM (d21:1), PG (43:6)] may mediate the association between abdominal obesity and abnormal glucose regulation. This study identified several novel obesity-related lipid metabolites.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The prevalence of glucolipid metabolic disorders (GLMDs) in children and adolescents has a recognized association with cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes mellitus in adulthood. Therefore, it is important to enhance our under-standing of the risk factors for GLMD in childhood and adolescence.
AIM To explore the relationship between quality of life (QoL) and adolescent GLMD.
METHODS This study included 1956 samples in 2019 from a cohort study established in 2014. The QoL scale and glycolipid indexes were collected during follow-up; other covariates of perinatal factors, physical measures, and socioeconomic indicators were collected and adjusted. A generalized linear regression model and logistic regression model were used to analyse the correlation between QoL and GLMD.
RESULTS Higher scores of QoL activity opportunity, learning ability and attitude, attitude towards doing homework, and living convenience domains correlated negatively with insulin and homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance (IR) levels. Psychosocial factors, QoL satisfaction factors, and total QoL scores had significant protective effects on insulin and IR levels. Activity opportunity, learning ability and attitude, attitude towards doing homework domains of QoL, psychosocial factor, and total score of QoL correlated positively with high density lipoprotein. In addition, the attitude towards doing homework domain was a protective factor for dyslipidaemia, IR > 3, and increased fasting blood glucose; four factors, QoL and total QoL score correlated significantly negatively with IR > 3. In subgroup analyses of sex, more domains of QoL correlated with insulin and triglyceride levels, dyslipidaemia, and IR > 3 in females. Poor QoL was associated with an increased prevalence of GLMD, and the effect was more pronounced in males than in females. Measures to improve the QoL of adolescents are essential to reduce rates of GLMD.
CONCLUSION Our study revealed that QoL scores mainly correlate negatively with the prevalence of GLMD in adolescents of the healthy population. The independent relationship between QoL and GLMD can be illustrated by adjusting for multiple covariates that may be associated with glycaemic index. In addition, among females, more QoL domains are associated with glycaemic index.

Abstract
BackgroundOptimal water intake positively affects various aspects of human physiology, especially renal function. Physical activity (PA) may have an impact on hydration status and renal health, but the interaction of hydration status and PA level on renal function is not well-studied in children.MethodsWe conducted four waves of urine assays in our child cohort (PROC) study from October 2018 to November 2019 in Beijing, China. We measured urinary specific gravity, β2-microglobulin (β2-MG), and microalbumin (MA) excretion to assess hydration status and renal damage in the context of PA level and other covariates among 1,914 primary school children. We determined the associations of renal damage with the interaction of hydration status and PA level using generalized linear mixed-effects models.ResultsThe prevalence of dehydration was 35.0%, 62.1%, 63.9%, and 63.3%, and the prevalence of insufficient PA was 86.2%, 44.9%, 90.4%, and 90.2% from wave 1 to wave 4 among 1,914 primary school children. From wave 1 to wave 4, the prevalence of renal tubular damage had a significant increasing trend of 8.8%, 15.9%, 25.7%, and 29.0% (Z = 16.9, P < 0.001), while the prevalence of glomerular damage revealed a declining trend of 5.6%, 5.5%, 4.4%, and 4.1% (Z = −2.4, P = 0.016). There were stable longitudinal associations of renal tubular and glomerular damage with hydration status (euhydration: OR = 0.50 and 0.33, respectively) but not with PA level. In multivariate analysis, significant interactions of hydration status and PA level were noted with renal tubular damage (β = 0.43, P = 0.014) and glomerular damage (β = 0.60, P = 0.047). Children with euhydration and insufficient PA were less likely to have renal tubular damage (OR = 0.46, 95% CI: 0.39, 0.53) or glomerular damage (OR = 0.28, 95% CI: 0.20, 0.39); children with euhydration and sufficient PA were also less likely to have renal tubular damage (OR = 0.57, 95% CI: 0.44, 0.75) or glomerular damage (OR = 0.47, 95% CI: 0.30, 0.74), adjusting for age, sex, BMI z-score, standardized SBP, sleep duration, computer/cell phone screen time, and fruit and vegetable intake.ConclusionChildren with euhydration and either sufficient or insufficient PA were less likely to have early renal damage. Adequate daily water intake for children is important, especially after PA.
