Abstract
BACKGROUND Depression is a common psychological disorder worldwide, affecting mental and physical health. Previous studies have explored the benefits of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) intake in depressive symptoms; however, few studies have focused on the association between all types of fatty acids intake and depressive symptoms. Therefore, we explored the relationship between the intake of different fatty acids intake and the risk of depressive symptoms. METHODS The study was based on the data from the 2005-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a large US-based database. We used a nutrient residual model and multi-nutrient density model for the analysis. We calculated the nutrient density and residual in men and women separately, and the fatty acids intake was divided into quartiles based on the sex distribution. The relationship between the depressive symptoms and the intake of different fatty acids was examined using logistic regression; furthermore, we explored the relationships separately in men and women. RESULTS The intake of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) and PUFAs, particularly n-3 and n-6 PUFAs, were associated with reduced odds ratios for depressive symptoms. The inverse relationship between the intake of MUFAs, PUFAs, n-3, and n-6 PUFAs and depressive symptoms was stronger in women. The inverse relationship between total fatty acid (TFAs) intake and depressive symptoms existed only in a single model. In contrast, saturated fatty acid (SFAs) intake was not related to depressive symptoms. CONCLUSION Consuming MUFAs and PUFAs can counteract the depressive symptoms, especially in women.

Abstract
Background Subthreshold depression (StD) is considered to be the "precursor" stage of major depressive disorder (MDD), which could cause higher risk of suicide, disease burden and functional impairment. There have been various non-pharmacological interventions for StD. However, the comparison of their effectiveness still lacks sufficient evidence. We performed a systematic review and network meta-analysis to evaluate and rank the efficacy of multiple non-pharmacological interventions targeting StD. Methods We conducted a thorough search across various databases including PubMed, Medline, Embase, Web of Science and PsycINFO from inception to December 2022. All included studies were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of non-pharmacological interventions for patients with StD compared with control group (CG). Several universal scales for measuring depression severity were used as efficacy outcomes. The surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) was used to separately rank each intervention using the "Stata 17.0" software. Results A total of thirty-six trials were included, involving twenty-eight interventions and 7417 participants. The research found that most non-pharmacological interventions were superior to controls for StD. In each outcome evaluation by different scales for measuring depression, psychotherapy always ranked first in terms of treatment effectiveness, especially Problem-solving Therapy (PST), Behavioral Activation Therapy (BAT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)/Internet-based CBT (I-CBT)/Telephone-based CBT (T-CBT). Since different groups could not be directly compared, the total optimal intervention could not be determined. Conclusion Here, we show that psychotherapy may be the better choice for the treatment of StD. This study provides some evidence on StD management selection for clinical workers. However, to establish its intervention effect more conclusively, the content, format and operators of psychotherapy still require extensive exploration to conduct more effective, convenient and cost-effective implementation in primary healthcare. Notably, further research is also urgently needed to find the biological and neural mechanisms of StD by examining whether psychotherapy alters neuroplasticity in patients with StD.

Abstract
Background Psychological distress is prevalent worldwide and can lead to the development of mental conditions such as major depression and anxiety disorders. It is essential to assess the severity of patient-reported outcomes to provide effective treatment for psychological distress. The Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K6) is one of the most widely used psychological distress scales. However, the smallest detectable change (SDC) of the K6 score has not been elucidated. Therefore, the current study aimed to determine the SDC of the K6 score in a Japanese adult population. Methods Participants aged 20-59 years who are native Japanese speakers were recruited from the panel list of a web research firm. The K6 score was assessed at baseline (T1) and at 2-week follow-up (T2). SDCs were calculated at the individual (SDCind) and group (SDCgroup) levels. Intraclass correlation coefficient agreement (ICCagreement) was calculated to assess test-retest reliability and Cronbach's alpha to evaluate internal consistency. Results A total of 3254 (1627 [50%] female) responded at T1 and T2. The mean (standard deviation) K6 scores were 5.71 (5.84) at T1 and 5.65 (5.83) at T2. The SDCind and SDCgroup of the K6 score were 8.47 (35.31%) and 0.15 (0.63%), respectively. The ICCagreement was 0.73, and the Cronbach's alpha was 0.94. Conclusion Our study provided evidence on the reliability and interpretation of the K6 score. Calculating the SDC of the K6 score can help identify the significance of changes in psychological distress over time and can determine the efficacy of interventions for psychological distress.

Abstract
Background Subthreshold depression is a risk factor for major depression. Psychotherapy is a kind of intervention for subthreshold depression. There have been many systematic reviews synthesized the evidence for its effectiveness toward subthreshold depression. However, there is currently no overview of these systematic reviews. Objective To undertake an overview of meta-analyses and systematic reviews to identify the efficacy of psychotherapy in subthreshold depression patients. Methods We will search several databases such as PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PsycINFO, CNKI, WanFang and VIP database, for systematic reviews and meta-analyses on psychotherapy in subthreshold depression patients. The search timeline will be from inception up to August 2022. Two researchers will screen related studies back-to-back. We will include studies that evaluate the efficacy of psychotherapy in subthreshold depression patients. We will evaluate the methodological quality, the reporting quality and the quality of evidence for outcomes by AMSTAR-2, the PRISMA 2020 checklist and the GRADE grading system. We will present the results of the overview in alignment with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement. The anticipated start and completion dates for this overview are 1 August 2022 and 30 December 2022, respectively. Results From this study, we will evaluate the methodological quality and the level of evidence of the included systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and evaluate the efficacy of psychotherapy in patients with subthreshold depression. Implications We will ascertain the efficacy of psychotherapy in subthreshold depression patients, to provide evidence to guide the treatment of subthreshold depression in the future. Registration number Our research protocol has been registered with PROSPERO. The registration number of the protocol is CRD42021278871.

Abstract
Abstract
Subthreshold depression (SD) is regarded as a major risk factor for major depression. However, little is known about the neural mechanism of negative emotion processing in SD. The study aimed to examine the differentiate neural correlates for negative emotion processing in SD and health controls (HC) and to investigate changes in functional connectivity in SD compared with HC. BOLD responses of SD and HC were captured while performing a passive viewing task, which comprised a negative condition and a masked condition. A total of 42 SD and 32 HC adolescents participated the study. Between-group comparisons revealed significant reduced activations in the superior frontal gyrus (SFG), middle frontal gyrus (MFG), and middle cingulate gyrus. Region of interest (ROI) analyses did not find correlations between contrast values of the ROIs and depressive symptoms. In addition, we found significant increased functional connectivity between the SFG and caudate, pallidum, and insula, which were significantly correlated with depressive symptoms in the SD group (P < 0.05). Altered functional connectivity between the SFG and caudate, pallidum, and insula may underlie the pathology of SD. This is the first study to investigate neural mechanisms of negative emotion processing in SD using task-based fMRI.
